Thankful that he wasn’t losing his mind and that his assessment of the situation wasn’t flawed, he simply nodded and said, “I don’t really want to be near it either. It really doesn’t seem right in here at all. The bones are a dead giveaway but there’s something else. Anyhow, this isn’t the time to ponder. Let’s go!” As they were turning to step out of the room through the door at the far end of the room, Trevor realized what was wrong with the room. It was the walls. The walls were subtly out of alignment, with angles that didn’t meet perfectly and everything was ever so slightly tilted and skewed. It made the whole place rather stomach churning and the youth was glad to escape from the place. However, their problems were far from over, because in the distance there was the unmistakable sound of shuffling feet and that nauseating fishy odor began to permeate the air again. Trevor gagged and then spoke. “I think we should amend it to, ‘Let’s RUN out of here!” The young man took to his heels and began to sprint but this proved to be fraught proposition. As they turned a corner in the passage that lead up and hopefully out, another crowd of fish-people began moving towards them. Grabbing a hold of his companion, Trevor tugged her into an alcove and tried to slow his breathing. He whispered,“Well this is great…” |

Inara was in a hurry to get away from the statue as well. The room itself was..weird. Something was terribly wrong with the whole thing. Her intuition was poking her, telling her that running was indeed the best option. Getting as far away from here as possible, and as fast as possible. Unfortunately their exit was blocked by the creepy people, and she found herself pulled into an alcove alongside Trevor, both of them squished in uncomfortably close. She held her breath as the fishie people meandered by, their chant still ongoing. It was as the last one passed that she finally let out her breath. She leaned back then, her back pressing into the wall. It was now that she realized that it hadn't been the best plan. Her back had been pressed into a switch hidden in the wall. Her weight pressed it inward, and a slow grinding sound started. The stone wall began to turn, and then.they were inside...Something. Some sort of cavern, through which moonlight filtered softly from the roof. "Well..crap." Inara muttered. Edited by Inara Serra, Dec 2 2014, 03:46 AM.

The smell that was left in the wake of the creatures was unutterably foul. It was hard to breathe for a few minutes but they had more pressing problems to worry about. As they’d tried to move out of the alcove, they’d suddenly found themselves spinning around in some kind of hidden contraption. Now they were facing a gigantic cave with a large, round hole in the roof. It was clearly man-made and it still held a hint of the wrong geometry that had been a part of the other room. Cautiously, his sword now drawn from its location on his back, Trevor began to glance around the room. It seemed innocent enough but there was an odd script scrawled around the ceiling and pictures that looked like a cross between an octopus and...and….well, whatever it was, it wasn’t the sort of thing that the slender youth wanted to run into in a dark alley. He now fervently regretted ever having decided to visit Trillium. As he stepped further into the room, there was a high pitched chittering noise and from the dark, a gigantic insect appeared. It looked like a massive beetle but it had acid dripping jaws that clacked as it came forward. Trevor yelped and dove out of the way as a stream of acid exploded near him. "Watch out! This thing’s dangerous!” Now the young man set his body in a low crouch, a stance that had him ready to move and respond to the threat at hand. Edited by MoonlitRain012, Dec 2 2014, 07:46 PM.

As the giant insect jumped at them from the shadows, Inara dove in the opposite direction from the youth. She had no idea how something like this could be lurking beneath Trillium undetected. She was scared of it, never having faced an acid spitting anything before. The green goop it had expelled was now eating a smoking hole in the floor of the cavern they had unexpectedly stumbled into. She hit the ground on the opposite side, rolling as she did so. "You okay?!" She shouted to her companion, even as he shouted a warning at her. She too stood, grabbing her sword from her side. She had no intention of going down without a fight, though she doubted this would be an easy one. Its carapace shined and simmered in the light from above. It looked remarkably like a dung beetle. And that did nothing to alleviate her stress. There was no telling how this thing had mutated. It could be any number of reasons. It could even be dark magic for all she knew. She swore to herself she would never come to Trillium again if she got out of this damnable place. The cavern itself was spooky enough without the added bonus of the creepy giant acid spitting bug. How did she even get into these situations? Couldn't she just, you know, go visiting sometimes? Without weird stuff happening? Probably not. She thought with a sigh. So much for wishful thinking. The beetle was clicking its wings, and its weird pincer things which were surrounding its maw. She didn't think she fancied finding her end there. She stood with her sword at the ready as the beast made an attempt to figure put which person it would attack first. Beneath them, the floor rumbled ominously, and the beetle seemed to hesitate once more. It gave a hiss as another rumble shook the cavern floor, allowing loose rocks and debris to fall. Inara hoped fervently the palce wasn't about to cave in. |

Trevor took advantage of the creature’s distraction to dart in. His long training in swordsmanship allowed him to remain calm and let muscle memory and focus take over. The youth saw a gap in the insectile carapace and aimed for it. He made the assumption that the thing’s blood was likely to be acidic so he readied himself to pull the blade away rapidly after he struck. The high quality steel of his Northern-forged blade sank home and he yanked it away quickly as acid did indeed spatter out of the wound. Luckily it didn’t wreck his sword, but the high pitched chittering was horrible as it pierced the air. Trevor moved with a fair turn of speed to get out of the way as one of the thing’s legs came smashing down near him. He turned to look for Inara, unsure of where she was, but was relieved to see that she’d survived and appeared to be looking for a gap to strike. He shouted to her. “We need to keep it busy. I have a feeling that some part of the wall is going to come down here. I can see stress fractures all over the place. I hope that we can find an opening to get the hell out of here before the thing either tries to eat us or the roof falls in!” Trevor was on his toes again, dancing and keeping himself at the ready to leap clear. He was watching to see what his partner might do now. |

Inara had moved back into position. The ominous rumbling made it clear something else was going to happen. She nodded seriously at her companion given his advice. The giant beetle however, moved away still further. The rumbling was even more prominent now. And the beetle fled, back into a whole which was concealed behind it. Inara took this as a bad sign. After a few more minutes the ground began to shake. And Inara dodged at the last second as a huge piece of debris from the wall came flying at her head. She took stock as she stood seeing her companion still standing on the other side of the room. Unfortunately, the leftmost wall was still in the midst of coming down. They could either hide in one of the many crevices,at risk of being stuck, or they could follow the beetle down its hole. At risk of being buried alive and eaten by a beetle. Inara was unsure, and it showed in her face. "What can we do?!" she yelled to Trever. |

There was another sharp cracking sound and a cleft opened up in the wall, followed by chunks of stony debris landing in front of it. Through the crack, a gap of sky could be seen and Trevor yelped in excitement. However, there was still the matter of getting past the rather vigilant beetle, which seemed to have noticed the crack forming. Trevor shouted. “I want you to run for the opening! I’ll distract the beetle. Just don’t look back and keep going. I promise that I’ll follow as soon as I can.” Without waiting for any confirmation, he sheathed his sword and began to lob chunks of stone at the giant insect, which turned in his direction and began to move swiftly forward. With a push of his strong legs, Trevor began to run as quickly as he could manage towards the crack in the wall. He snatched up whatever he could find to throw at the thing as he ran. It was fast and he could feel the breeze from the snapping jaws whistle past his legs, but he stayed just ahead of it. It took a great effort but he threw himself through the gap in the wall and rolled onto his feet again. The beetle that had been charging at top speed came to an abrupt halt and seemed to recoil from the shaft of light that shone in. Clearly it was a creature of the underground realms and couldn’t abide sunlight. Trevor took in a great, ragged gulp of air and looked around for Inara who was standing not far away. “Are you alright?” he asked her, “I wasn’t sure if that plan would work or not but I guess we got away with it.” He sighed. “Do you think we ought to tell anyone about this? Like...I dunno...some kind of authority?” Edited by MoonlitRain012, Jan 17 2015, 04:14 PM.

Inara made a quick break for the opening, her eyes on the slender bit of sky that was showing. She was already a bit tired from this excursion. The fact that she left Trevor to deal with the giant beetle alone was proof of this. She couldn't help thinking that maybe she should train harder as she made a quick run for the debris. She leaped, clearing large falling stone somehow, probably by sheer luck, and she found herself rolling around on the ground outside moments later, gasping in ling fulls of clear night air. None of the strange creatur-people-things from before were anywhere to be seen. She stood moving away from the still calling rubble. She was anxious, as she leaned against a wall, waiting for Trevor to emerge. He didn't disappoint, coming through the opening lithe as a cat and springing to his feet nearly immediately. She looked around herself at last, even as she opened her mouth to speak to Trevor. She had no need to talk to him for a few seconds as she looked around her. It had become daylight since they found their way underground. And the city of Trillium seemed to have shrunk. There were next to no buildings here, but there were woods. There was no sign of Fuschia Fields, and Inara raised a finger as a weird almost sound came out of her mouth. "I...I was fine five seconds ago. Now...Where are Trevor? This..this looks nothing like Trillium. Where is the green glow? Where is the night sky. We've not been gon so long as all that." She frowned. Something was wrong here. Something was very wrong. |

Trevor felt a shifting and a twisting of his perceptions that was sickening. When the feeling had subsided, he realized that there was something fundamentally different about their location. It was as though they’d somehow been transported in the short period of time they’d been underground. How was it possible? If they were subject to the sort of magic that could do this, what had happened to the world? All of these questions went swirling around the young swordsman’s mind as he stood and glanced around him. He touched the grasses and some of the trees around him and they felt normal. Everything smelled, looked and felt like it was tangible and real. However there was clearly nothing normal about their circumstances. Trevor wondered aloud. “Did someone cast a spell on us? How does this make sense?” He glanced into the woods and back at his companion. “Any theories as to what is going on? I am guessing you have some magical senses. Are they telling you anything?” |
