Gryffin kept his mind clear from all distractions. He had to go past this man before him so he could find his target. Yet as he clashed weapons with Marcus, he felt a strange familiarity. And it was at that moment that he fell for it. His memories of his grandfather’s movements of when he was young were well embedded into his brain for he had since then been wanting to surpass this very man. Yet he fell for it. He was clanky in his movements that he was easily disarmed, and a shove got him falling back to the ground. He glared as he heard a familiar voice scold him. He really hated it. He wanted to focus on his mission yet he was clearly melting inside. He wanted to cry as even his senses were no longer fooled. This man before him was his grandfather in another time– the very same man who always hugged him, carried him, and spent afternoons with him, taught him how to speak and the man whose embrace he would never forget. So he raised a hand of his head, stealing a wipe across his eyes when he felt it moisten. But as he took another glance, he caught sight of his target’s face from behind Marcus. He knew he had to end it. There was no way he could leave without having to go through with it. And because he had nothing to do with his grandfather of this time, he didn’t want anything to happen to him because of his problem. “You know nothing,” he uttered as he pushed to a kneel before he commanded his magical energy to surround him as he dashed right through the side of Marcus, moving past him. He reached for his fallen sword and ran towards the other end where his target was. He leapt into the air and spun his sword before strike down and hard. He roared as he struck down and his blade met the enemy leader’s own, but his sword was just better as it managed to break through the enemy, rending the blade forcing it to break at the upper portion and sent twirling tot he side. But the strike did not end for his blade fell down to slash at the opponent’s arm, cutting him from the elbow. It was a bloody spray that blinded him as he fell to the ground and the voice of agony from the enemy leader. But as he tried to get back to what was to be done, he felt someone had got to him, whipping a chain at his back that sent him crashing back to the ground with a world pain. He cried as he curled in pain but struggled to keep his sword in hand and tried to fend off the attacker, all the while he was wiping the enemy’s blood off his face. |

Despite the fighting all around him, Marcus couldn't help but focus solely on the young boy he had just disarmed. Though he was handily beaten, he didn't look that frustrated about it, not even angry...just surprised, like he was seeing a ghost. The boy, however, seemed to stop himself and focused on something behind Marcus. With a murmur and something about Marcus knowing nothing, the boy dashed forward, propelled by a force that appeared to be magic. The move was so sudden, Marcus didn't get a chance to do anything before the boy had already retrieved his sword and taken a shot at a gang member behind Marcus. The boy managed to completely cut through the man's sword and cut his elbow, unfortunately, the spray of blood had gotten into the boy's eyes and a second gangster had come in to help, lashing his back with a chain. Marcus fury grew at the sight, not only at the sight of the boy being hurt, but because he started to make sense of why a boy like this was here. His temper practically boiling over, Marcus stepped forward with a burst of speed, clearing the distance and appearing in front of the boy in a mere instant. The gangster raised his chain to lash at Marcus, but the knight was too fast; he cut the chain with a swing of his spear. Then pulling back his fist, he slammed it into the man's face. He was too angry to hold back, and as result, Marcus sent the gangster flying across the tunnel and straight into a wall, cracking it. The man's face was permanently disfigured. Marcus turned around and began to walk towards the man the boy had attacked before. He was on the floor, groveling at his injured limb. He started to crawl away as Marcus slowly approached him. Marcus looked from the boy to the injured man. he had no clue as to why the boy was so hellbent on killing the man, but if he was determined enough to sneak into the Dandelion Sector and enter a gang war just to kill him, then something was up. Marcus tored the shirt off a fallen gangter and tore into strips. He knelt down and tied a binding around the man's wound. When he was finished, Marcus knocked him out with a stern hit upside the head. He picked up the unconscious man and slung him across his shoulder. He had found his witness. "You, kid." Marcus said to the boy. "Come with me. " |

For a moment, his vision turned completely red and all Gryffin could think of was to figure out how to get back up. His back was hurting bad and the way his coat felt crisp and moist meant he might have earned a cut or something far worse. He didn’t care though for he saw the motion in the air as the chain was pulled back and Gryffin could only roll aside to avoid the strike. But it didn’t happen. Instead, he heard the clanking sound of a fallen chain, grunts and when he looked up, he saw the figure of his assailant thrown across the tunnel and hitting the wall with a rather painful crash. He flinched at the thought of the man having died but he quickly looked to the side, having wiped along his eyes and saw the man from earlier, strong and armored, who went to provide a tourniquet on the gang leader’s arm. He was then given the command to stand and follow. How very... un-Marcus. Gryffin couldn’t remember a time when Marcus would speak like that. Probably because his grandfather wanted nothing like the military or the knights’ rules to be practiced back home. Probably because the war was too much and he’d rather give his family the freedom. So it was more of a relief to Gryffin that he actually forced himself to stand and ignore the pain as it felt more like a real command; and because he knew that he wouldn’t have had the courage to look at Marcus should the other be more gentler like the grandfather he knew of. They passed by fallen thugs and Gryffin noticed the Arroz wasn’t there anymore. Perhaps his former boss and his right-hand man had gotten away after this scary man had intervened. Speaking of which, just on whose side was he? Oh right, he’s a knight. Gryffin almost completely forgot about that bit so he ended up following in silence as they passed through the fallen thugs and he tried to keep a brave front despite the urge to want to just lie down and wait for the pain to die out. But as they neared the exit, he remembered the information he got before and quickly stopped. He was about to speak when a whistling sound would be heard. And before he knew it, the police arrived and he felt a whack at his back. He fell to the ground in great pain even if it was just a normal baton and he was quickly cuffed quite harshly as about a handful had appeared, some from inside the tunnel as if they were laying in wait. Then, there was the man with the crooked nose, the chief of the area, who approached Marcus and seemingly knew of the man as he eyed him long enough before greeting, “You must be the knight they sent. It’s a good thing we managed to find you here in one piece. We were hoping to cooperate with you before the entrapment but you were hard to reach and we did not have the proper means of communicating with you when the messenger himself had arrived late just this morning. But it seems you’ve succeeded. We’ll handle the rest here.” And he gave the two that held Gryffin bound, “To the cellar.” |

Marcus began to walk out of the tunnel, the unconscious gangster slung along his shoulder like a hunting trophy, which wasn't that far from the truth considering that Marcus had been searching for a witness and finally got one. All that was left was for him to return to the knights Hq and start an interrogation. Judging from the turf war, something was going on in the Dandelion Sector underworld, something big, and Marcus would get to the bottom of it. As for the boy, Marcus was curious about him. He was planning on taking him aside and getting some answers from him; why he was here and what he was doing. As they were about to reach the end of the tunnel, Marcus heard the sound of whistling. Suddenly, the police ran forward and hit the boy in the back, knocking him down and handcuffing him. They treated the boy harshly as they subdued, which began to anger Marcus. Before he could step in and stop the abuse, Marcus was approached by an officer, he explained that he wanted to cooperate with Marcus but circumstances were no permitting. "It's alright." Marcus replied. "If it's all the same to you, I will be accompanying you in your investigation." Marcus gestured to the boy who was now handcuffed. "I'd also appreciate it if you weren't so heavy-handed with the boy, he's no threat." Despite the mild choice of words that Marcus was using, he was making it quite clear that he expected his suggestion to be carried out. If his tone of voice wasn't clear enough to signify his intentions, the narrowed, angry look in his eyes was evidence enough. |

The Chief stared at Marcus for a long while, trying to see if this knight would be cooperative. The truth was that there was no such arrangement of any cooperation between the knights and the local authorities. It just so happened that there was an information leak that a knight was deployed to investigate Dandelion Sector. But since the city itself was crawling with information brokers, it was easy enough to get the necessary information for anyone with power to properly keep their hands on their position. “Of course,” the Chief finally said with much effort as he gave a wane smile, “Please, let us proceed to the barracks first.” Then he turned towards the couple of police in-charge of keeping Gryffin in check and waved a hand. Though the cuffs weren’t released, at least the boy was now allowed to walk on his own and not dragged along. “I apologize about the boy. It’s just that he’s quite known for being a bit fast and always escapes,” the Chief continued to speak as he led the way out of the tunnel where three carriages were already waiting for them. He stopped as Gryffin was led further towards the third carriage before he was deposited inside along with the two guards to keep an eye on him. “It’s a pity that they employ kids nowadays. But it’s not something new around here. Kids that age can be deadly if not a pickpocket.” And the though the carriage began to move away already, the Chief turned to face Marcus with a smile, “Oh, don’t worry. He’ll be brought to the barracks as well, and seen to by a doctor. You can meet him later though I doubt you’ll find anything. They always lie.” And he continued to show them the way towards a more splendid looking carriage where he opened the double-doors for Marcus to enter. “Please, this way. We will arrive at the barracks in just minutes. There, you can wash and rest as we prepare documentations for the two we’ve apprehended for today. After which, I will send for you for proper investigation. If that is alright with you, sir knight.” There was a slur in the last sentence, but the Chief was only testing Marcus. But whether or not the knight would agree with it, the Chief would be riding on a separate carriage and will likely be unavailable until he allows himself to be. And so, what was left in his place was a lieutenant to act as guide to Marcus. Meanwhile, Gryffin lay on the seat of the carriage he was in as the bumpy ride down the crooked streets of Dandelion didn’t want to end. He was tired and in pain and the cuffs weren’t helping, not when it meant he had to arch his back a bit which was sore from the punishment he received earlier. And as he looked at the two guards, he could tell they were bought. One inched closer and grabbed him by the hair before whispering, “Thano sends his regards. Pray while you can, boy.” And at those words, Gryffin pulled away and they had a bit of a wrestle before he was subdued again for the rest of the ride. All the while, he bit his lips as he regretted not being able to kill the target earlier for Thano was supposedly the leader’s psychotic brother who had long been locked up in prison. |

Marcus nodded solemnly as the officer agreed to his conditions, he walked behind the man as he explained that they would go the barracks where he could wait and rest up before they brought him whatever information they obtained from the two. The two of them walked down the tunnel where they found three carriages waiting for them, no doubt their ride back to the barracks. Marcus glimpsed the boy he had brought back with him, still held in irons, but he wasn't being manhandled anymore, which was an improvement, though Marcus would've preferred that they didn't need the cuffs in the first place. The officer tried to warn him that the boy was nothing more than a thief, a delinquent, and that nothing that would come out of his mouth would be true. Still, Marcus was determined to meet the boy and speak to him privately, if only to figure out why he was attacking that gang member, perhaps he knew something important. As Marcus walked, he kept his demeanor guarded, and though his posture was relaxed, he still kept his hand near his weapon, just in case. He didn't trust this officer in the slightest; everything about them seemed off, they were far too cooperative. In any area, the local law enforcement tended to be rather territorial of their jurisdiction, in any other case, the locals would've shown great disdain towards Marcus, the idea of a big-shot knight getting into their business would offended them. But these people just...didn't care, in fact, they welcomed his presence, and in a place like the Dandelion Sector, where corruption was as readily found as the insects beneath a rock, the thought worried him. Nonetheless, Marcus opted to play along, for now. "That's alright with me." Marcus replied, pretending to not notice the sarcasm in the officer's voice. He climbed into the carriage, where he settled into his seat comfortably. The carriage ride was short and rather uneventful; Marcus kept to himself, and the lieutenant who accompanied him was no conversationalist. When they arrived at the barracks, the lieutenant lead him to a small building where the officers stayed. He showed him a bed, where Marcus could spend his time. "I'd like to be alone," Marcus said to the lieutenant. The man nodded respectfully and left the room, leaving Marcus alone. He was tempted to sleep a little, but his cautious nature told him otherwise; he was in enemy territory and this was no place for him to relax. As it were, Marcus simply lay down on the bed, waiting patiently for his next chance to act. |

The room that was given to Marcus was rather ordinary. A small living quarters within the confines of the large barracks that served as the police’s headquarters within Dandelion Sector. He had but a simple a bed, a washbasin, a window to look out to though there was nothing much to see but the alleys of the sector, and a chair and a simple desk without a book or a piece of scrap paper and pencil to even use. But as he asked for, the lieutenant left him alone to have some privacy. But that was rather short-lived when a knock on his door echoed. Outside stood a female officer, though she wore a rather normal set of clothes. Unlike the chief from earlier and the lieutenant, she wore civilian clothing, a dark green robe and brown clothes. She had short blonde hair and red eyes, and pale complexion. She had a pleasant smile as waited to be answered at the door. When the door would be answered, she would then address Marcus with a pleasant tone, “Good day, Mr. Faldin. I have been given instruction to be your attendant for the day.” She was sweet in her own ways without having to overly impose her person on him. “The chief is still stuck in a meeting as the on going gang wars have happened quite simultaneously. It was fortunate that we were able to capture at least a couple involved but he must first address the others about the pursuit plans. As such, I regret to inform you that you’ll have to wait a little longer before you can talk with the chief and the investigation team.” She made sure to keep eye contact without having to look haughty like the others in the office, “But that said, you are allowed to go about the barracks if you so wish. At the moment, I can suggest, if you’re feeling up to it, to perhaps visit the grounds? It is where most of the pursuit teams are currently waiting for orders and you might be able to conduct your initial investigation with them. You may also want to proceed to the study. The office boasts of the largest and most updated criminal records around the sector, even when there are other police offices in the other areas but we file them accordingly here.” And before she could end, she added, “Also, I was told that when you arrived, you were initially found with a boy. He’s currently being held in the white room for documentation before being transferred into a cell. We may also visit him if you wish, but we’ll have to wait at the clearance room after his initial documentation is over.” “Oh, and before I forget, pardon for the lateness, my name is Manah. Please tell me what you wish to do, Sir Faldin.” should you choose to go to the grounds should you choose to go to the study should you choose to go to where Gryffin is held Meanwhile, Gryffin woke up in a large but all white room. It was so white and clean that he couldn’t believe that he was still in Dandelion Sector. It smelled of disinfectant and it was silent. He was alone in the room and as he tried to move, he felt weak. He only managed to sit as he looked at his cuffed hands. They were now bound by a special looking set of handcuffs, where the middle area held a sort of cylindrical tube with a red liquid inside. Somehow, he could almost feel that his weakening state was caused by it. But he was angry for he now found himself trapped in some sort of cell. And from what he knew of in his time, Dandelion Sector, had a certain way of incarcerating its criminals. Just then, a voice called from the back, “Finally awake, boy?” It was a voice so familiar he almost choked as he slowly turned. “I didn’t think he’d choose to send someone like you. But it seemed as though the plan failed. You weren’t supposed to hitch a ride in here. At least, not until my brother is dead.” And to his surprise, it was a person he had never seen before. Dark hair, dark eyes, clothes in equally dark clothes, but he smelled of death and yet he was cuffed with the same cuffs as he was, only this time, there were so many, on his hands, legs, and neck. But what made Gryffin feel as though he could not stop his racing heart was the fact that this man’s voice was all too familiar. “What’s the matter, boy? Seen a ghost? Or were you expecting someone else?” “Dad?” Gryffin uttered before shaking his head. It was impossible. His father was nothing like this man. He shouldn’t even been born yet. And yet, he sounded just like him. And the man laughed a maniacal laughter at those words. “Oh please, boy. If I have fathered a son already, I would know by now. The Missus would kill me should she have heard of this. Besides, only one person can get away alive sleeping with the Reaper, and she’s quite close by.” The man stood up and walked so confidently towards Gryffin until the chains that bound his feet stopped him just an arm’s length away from the boy, “So, who are you?” |

"Could it be the security forces are in league with the criminals?" Marcus thought, "What if they were? I'd have to find some way to get out of here...preferably discreetly..." His thoughts were quick, darting along, racing from tangent to tangent. He thought about the police, whether they were involved with the recent events or not, the reasons supporting or disproving the notion, the possibilities of whether his suspicions were correct, what his next move should be. All of this while he laid on the bed calmly, staring up at the ceiling. Marcus sighed and got up from the bed. He couldn't let his thoughts get the best of him, he needed to do something to get his mind straight, something physical with his hands, that always calmed him down. He got to the ground and started doing one-handed push-ups. He was up to five hundred and seventy-two when he heard a knock on the door. He paused his workout. "One second." He said. He walked to the washbasin to wash the sweat off. He dunked his head into the water when he was finished, shaking the water off his hair. He dried himself off with a towel and walked over to open the door, finding a woman standing at the door, dressed in officer's attire. Marcus wiped his head as the woman spoke, saying that she would be his attendant for the day. He frowned internally, Marcus didn't any attendant nor would he want one, he preferred to go about matters on his own without the distractions of people following his lead, a side-effect of some his past...endeavors as a leader. Then again... "A spy." It made total sense; send someone to watch the loose cannon knight lest he do something rash. Though it did not prove anything definitive as to whether the security was corrupt or not, it was evidence nonetheless. It would also seem that the police would need even more time before they met Marcus. That was all well and good though, Marcus didn't really care much for seeing the Captain anyway. He was untrustworthy. "I want see the boy, Manah." Marcus said immediately after she was finished. He went into his room quickly to put on his armor and weapons before he let Manah lead the way. She lead him out of the building and into another one, the barracks as it would see was a network of interconnected buildings. They walked until they reached a single building that wasn't connected to the network. It was dull grey and completely unassuming in appearance, no doubt reflecting it's somber role. They walked in, heading straight for the clearance room. The guard let Marcus in without a hitch, showing him into the room where he would wait for the boy to be shown in. "Please wait outside Manah." Marcus said. "I would like to speak to the boy privately." Once she was gone from the room, leaving him alone. Marcus sat on a chair, waiting patiently for the boy to be shown in. |

Gryffin tilted his head in confusion as he listened to the man before him laugh in what seemed to have been the strangest question he had heard of. Of course, the way the man looked made him think again. There had to be a reason why he has so much chains all over him. Three of which were identical cuffs to the one he had over his hands. And thinking about them made him remember of the weakening sensation he was having. He suddenly fell to a sitting position on the white floor in that white room, panting heavily as if he had only realized how heavy the chains were on him. The man shrugged at him before he took a moment to sit on the floor as well, just an arm’s length in front of him and seemingly keeping a long unblinking stare at him. “So tell me, boy. Who are you?” the man asked. “Why do I need to answer you?” Gryffin responded, though his heart was always bothered whenever he heard the man’s voice. “Fine. I’ll share my name and you can share yours. I am Thano, known as the Reaper of Dandelion. The king at some point before my brother turned traitor. And I had vowed a reckoning. Which is why I had expected someone more... older.” Gryffin kept an attentive ear but he couldn’t help but feel all the more confused. “Sorry, I don’t understand anything at all. I have nothing to do with you nor with Dandelion Sector.” “Oh?” the man seemed perplexed. “But isn’t that why you are here? In this precious cell of mine? Because you were specifically placed here due to prior arrangements?” “No, I don’t recall anything,” Gryffin said. Somehow the tension between them had disappeared, replaced by a certain calm and casual tone that he liked. Not that the man didn’t look as intimidating as before, but there was just something about his company that made him agreeable to be with. Then he recalled of something, “Well, I did remember Arroz telling me I can go if I can get my sword from Bru at his ramen shop. But Bru was stingy so he gave me one last mission which was to kill the opposing leader who planned the trap for Arroz.” “Ah, Bru! I didn’t think the old man would put a child up for this. Though I suppose there is a better reason why you were chosen.” “Because I wanted to leave, no doubt. I heard that they said you can never leave a gang once you’re a part of it, but Arroz promised.” “Don’t worry. I’ll make sure he keeps his promise. But since we can’t do anything with the fact that you were the one who was sent, I suppose we’ll have to make do.” “Make do with what?” Gryffin was confused, all the more when he had seemed confident he could make Arroz do what he wanted. “Close your eyes, boy. Grit your teeth. It’ll be less painful that way.” And that was the only warning he got. Meanwhile, as Marcus was lead to the room where he could wait for the newly brought in prisoners, it took more than half an hour before someone did enter. It was Manah. She seemed rather in a hurry as she slipped in through the door of where they first came in. “I apologize, Sir Faldin,” she said as she neared him, a staff-like weapon apparent and wielded, “There was a sudden commotion. The holding area where the boy was had suddenly–” A sudden explosion rocked the building they were in and even the ceiling of the very room they were at threatened to fell on them. Outside, it became noisy and the sound of alarm was also blaring. “Now what?” Manah turned in alarm as she went over towards the steel window to look outside. Her eyes suddenly widened in shock. “The cells! They’ve been breached! Quick! We must stop the prisoners before they overrun this building!” And as if it couldn’t get any worse, as soon as they would near the door, a messenger came in, stabbed in the gut and scared as he yelled, “The command build has been locked up! They’re isolated! We cannot get reinforcements!” Manah tried to help the man as he fell to the floor but he was breathing his last few breaths. And just then, about three of the prisoners crashed into the room by breaking through the steel windows as they seemed to wield some lacryma-powered staves that were for meant for the prison guards. Marcus didn't have much time to himself before Manah returned, it would appear that a few minutes of alone time would have the entire base going up in flames. Of course, that would thought would've been amusing had that not been the exact case. The girl barely managed to say two words before an explosion rang out, startling everyone. The base went into high alert, voice yelled, alarms blared, the once calm atmosphere of the place suddenly become panicked. It was all too familiar to Marcus... he hated that. The prison had been compromised, the cells broken and the prisoners released. Marcus quickly put two and two together; this was no random accident, this was planned. Nonetheless, the knight rose to his feet. The determined look on his face bespoke of his experience with the matter. "Manah, stay with me." He ordered. "We need to find the command building and shut down the prison before we get overrun." Just as he said that, three prisoners crashed into the room, wielding hefty looking staff weapons. Those were the guards' weapons...which meant the prisoners had already overpowered the guards. The prisoners quickly spotted Marcus and Manah and quickly went to attack them, a bloodthirsty look of glee on their faces as they ran at them. Marcus activated the Talos Suit just before they reached him, the draconic style armor magically expanding from his gauntlet and covering him in shiny black armor. The prisoners had chosen the worst possible target to attack, for not only was Marcus inhuman, but also one of the most skilled polearm users among the Knights. Moving with practiced ease, Marcus dodged the first overhead strike, then avoided the jabs to his abdomen. He punched a prisoner in the face, slamming him against the wall and knocking him out. Another prison tried to stab the knight but he simply sidestepped, grabbing the spear and breaking it in half. He then grabbed the man and threw him into another, they collapsed in a heap at the end of the room. Marcus drew Iustitia. "The command room, Manah. Now." |
