Everything was lost to Desire. There was no sight, no smell, no sound, no scent, no feeling. She couldn't even think. As she hurtled blindly towards the two Fairy Tail mages, the plan of what she would do once she reached them did not even cross her mind. Her mind was blank, totally devoid of everything, save a deepening despair and bitterness, which was the only thing that expressed itself in the wild cry that emanated from her lungs. Desire did not see the two mages moving to respond to her. She did not even feel that her sense of balance was disrupted when Cleia threw the rune bomb thingamajig. Nor did she feel Brian's hands grab her wrists. A little clarity returned however, when Desire hit the ground with her back. She stared at Brian, her vacant eyes focusing, then they narrowed, not the way eyes narrowed in anger, but they way they did when one felt tears coming. It was obvious she was trying to hold back the tears that were rushing to her eyes. On another day, in different circumstances, anyone who knew Desire would know that she would have said something naughty about Brian's and her positions, but even the will to jest was gone. She turned her head off to the right, as though she was trying to avoid Brian's eyes, and shut her eyes tight as the tears began to flow freely. She did not even try to struggle. "What are you waiting for?" the half-demon girl said quietly, as she lay pinned to the ground, eyes closed with her tears wetting the earth. "If you Fairy Tail mages are actually the good people I've heard people say you are, then why are you hesitating? Put an end to my misery." To the casual observer, the pink-haired girl was probably just being melodramatic. But given what she was currently passing through, life seemed to be finally at its end. And maybe a stronger person could try to get back up and pick the pieces; heck, there were even some who would see such a situation as Desire's as merely trivial. But no matter how strong, there were very few people who could easily deal with broken hope. Whichever the case, one didn't need a mind reader to know that the person they were dealing with had no more fight in her. "Please, end my life." |

Seeing the pink haired girl in tears had shifted Brian's attitudes towards her. Before, he had nothing but hatred and contempt for her. But that was mainly because of how she would just not go down with any of the attacks that he had thrown at her. He was supposed to be a Fairy Tail wizard. He was supposed to take down bad guys easily but this one just would not take the hint. And for that he hated her. But then to see her cry like that, it morphed the way he saw her. She was no longer an enemy of Fairy Tail but a human being, lost, alone, in pain and no where else to go. When she cried more and looked at himself and Cleia and she asked for him to take her life, Brian pulled back his hands from her wrists that pinned her to the ground and shook his head. He looked over to Cleia and tipped his head towards the pink haired girl asking in his own way to see what can be done to help her. Actions

Cleia watched as Brian restrained Pinkie, glad that this aspect of the fighting had been apparently accomplished. She was not ready for what came next. For the girl who had acted so full of herself and confident and all, broke down and cried, obviously having lost the will to live. What was more surprising was Pinkie's request. Take her life? If that was what she wanted, she was definitely in the wrong place. As Brian let Pinkie's wrists go, Cleia walked over silently. Of course, she was not surprised that Brian had refused to kill her. But a shaking of the head couldn't be enough. Cleia knew that it was up to her to start a conversation of sorts and see if Pinkie's character could still at least be remedied. Brian had never spoken a word, well, as far as she had known him. Her previously stern expression having softened considerably, she crouched by Pinkie's side. "Kill you seriously?! Isn't that a bit too extreme? Come on, we can't do that... we're not like that. I know you've been bad and all, but what would even make you say such a thing? Why the sudden disinterest in life?" Cleia rose into a standing position, though she was bent over. She then extended a hand to Pinkie. "Don't lie down there like that. Why not sit up and tell us what's going on? Maybe we could help..." |

For someone who had very clear and sharp memories about cruelty, for someone who had lived a life in which everything around her was twisted by the malice of life, it was very easy to interpret the refusal of the Fairy Tail mages as a malevolent desire to leave her alive and prolong her suffering. After all, she could remember, when she was still much younger, and in the possession of the demons of Doomcrest Isle, after a particularly harrowing torture session with one of the demons, she begged the evil creature to take her life, to which the evil thing laughed and replied, "why would we want to do that? The dead do not scream." Desire realized that Brian was no longer pinning her to the earth, but still she refused to move. Then she heard the other girl's voice, much softer now, asking her why she didn't want to live. She opened her eyes and saw the outstretched hand, and the encouraging expressions. Her psychic sense could not read emotions accurately, but she felt a sort of dichotomy in the sensation it fed her; it was hard to explain, but one could say it felt cool, and gently warm at the same time, in a pleasant sort of way. It seemed they were genuine. But why would they want to help her? A part of Desire told her she'd been lied to enough times, so she should reject the offer of help. But she was practically empty now. Maybe, just maybe she would attempt to hope one more time. At first, she waited quite a while, expecting them to grow annoyed, but there was just the patient waiting. This was something no one had done to her before. For the most part, she always pretended to be happy and carefree, when most of the time, her heart felt like it would break. But she never shared her sorrows with anyone; they wouldn't care. So, why were these Fairy Tail mages caring? Finally, with obvious uncertainty, Desire took Cleia's hand and sat up, brushing her tears away. "Why would you want to help me, your enemy, someone who was really such a pain in your behinds?" She gave the two gathered mages the same look a street child would have when offered a bath and lodging for the first time in her life. Hope mixed with uncertainty, uncertainty as to whether to trust or remain wild. Evidently, Desire was broken beyond 'remaining wild'. "I'm sure you know about the Demon Invasion that rocked Fiore," the Take Over mage began, her voice more stable now, her eyes dry. "Well, I went through things, more mental than physical, that I never want to have to go through again. I even wanted to die. And there's no way to release the pain and sorrow. Then this guy comes along, promises me that if I helped him, he would grant me my greatest wish. But to grant me that wish, he needed the Eyestone of Fairies, locked away in your guildhall. For a reason I don't know, I believed him. Maybe it's his magic, but I not only believed, I hoped with all of my being." Like any Eyestone of Fairies really existed. She paused, then continued, her tone growing bitter. "Turns out he was just some cheap thief who wanted to use a distraction to steal from key places in Magnolia. Why I'd be chosen to be his distraction, I don't know, but it's been just all about him filling his greedy pockets...." There was a longer pause, then the hybrid girl continued, her head bowing low, as she hugged her knees. "To think I thought he actually had the power to bring my dad back... my dad... the only person who really listened when I talked." Then the feeling of despondence returned, and Desire had an idea. Maybe if these guys knew they were talking to a half-demon, maybe they wouldn't be too willing to leave her alive. She was sure they would have experienced the invasion. "Well, my life isn't worth it, I suppose," she said honestly, simply making a statement of fact in her opinion, not trying to garner pity. "If you must know, I'm a human-demon hybrid...." As she said so, Desire activated her Take Over magic, her arms turning purple, and her fingernails growing into claws, "so I'm probably related to those things that invaded Fiore. Why is why you people should not let me live. Now I look at it, I've always tried, but failed to be a good, decent, responsible member of society. With the demon blood in my veins, I'm cursed to be evil. So there you have it. As good guys, your job is to purge evil, so do your job." Her magic sealed away, and she sat and waited, hopefully, for death. ACTIONS

Brian listened to Desire's story. Much of it was quite sad to his ears. A young girl with a strong wish and the willingness to do anything to get it and then along comes the trickster who would promise her greatest wish and all she had to do was one task. It was sad and cruel of the trickster to do this, especially since they were nothing more than a common thief that just wanted to steal a few things from a few places in Magnolia. No different than other con men selling bad products, false promises, exaggerated claims and empty hope. Then when the pink haired girl had asked both Brian and Cleia to take her life, Brian turned to look at Cleia and shook his head again saying that this wasn't what they were supposed to do. He then looked back at Desire, his expression still stern but behind his cold eyes there was the warmth of pity for this poor soul. Even if she were a half-demon. Actions

Cleia sat on the ground next to Pinkie and folded her legs, listening patiently to her story. As it was, she was hardly surprised that Pinkie was of mixed blood; she just was not sure what race the other one was besides human. Her story was a pitiful one, mixed with pain and betrayal; obviously that was why she had turned out like this. It seemed that what Pinkie actually desired most was to be accepted truly by people, and she was so desperate to have this that she felt that the only alternative was death. Of course, like herself, Brian did not agree with snuffing out her life. Cleia smiled softly at Pinkie's last statement and replied: "There's nothing that makes you evil, unless you've decided to be. And I can't tell you're evil for certain. The mere fact that you have that rune on your chest proves that you're more good than you think. You're a half-demon, according to what you said, and yet, for all it's worth, you've made efforts to restrain that side of yourself. Evil is not part of the blood, it's a choice. So, I'll tell you what you are: you're hurt, upset, bitter, confused maybe, but certainly not evil. And it's not the job of the good guys to 'purge' people like yourself. You want to know what good guys do? Well, they tend to help and protect others, and get a little annoying every now and then, but their hearts are always in the right place. Tell you what..." Cleia fluidly rose to her feet and reached out again towards Pinkie, but this time to pull her to her feet. "... how about this? You help us take down that tree thing you planted, 'cause I'm sure it's still there, and we, as the 'good guys', will help you out with your 'failed to be a good, decent, responsible member of society' issues. And we may not be able to bring back dead people (golly, wouldn't we all have wanted that?), but at least we can look out for each other and help ourselves out. What do you say?" |

What shocked Desire was that the two Fairy Tail mages did not even seem shocked when she informed them that she wasn't entirely human. Maybe they did not understand the odious evil that she was affiliated to by blood. Or maybe they did not care. It seemed to them, the extremely short girl being the spokesperson of the duo, that what was more important was personal choice. Then there was the offer of help, an invitation to make her into one of the 'good guys'. Desire didn't know how easy that would be, but she was willing to give it a try. There was hardly any other option, anyway. "Look out for each other... help ourselves out.... I-- I suppose I like the sound of that..." the pink-haired girl said uncertainly, but hopefully, as she took the proffered hand and rose to her feet. "I'm really sorry about everything I caused, so as you said, let's start by cleaning up my mess. I-- I'll try not to let you guys down...." She was beginning to feel emotional, and she found such annoying. It was cool to act cool and stuff, and here she was, her eyes watering again. But the fact was, she could not help it. Maybe good people like her father really did still exist in the world. The thought of her father most certainly doing to a defaulter what these two had done to her: show mercy and offer help, instead of mete out judgment, threatened to break her down into a sobbing wreck again. Not this time. With a loud voice in order to hide any signs of her getting emotional, the Take Over mage announced: "let's go out there and kick some woody ass!!!" There had been no introductions, but that was not the foremost on her mind. With a burst of energy, she dashed off, intent on returning to the place where it had all begun. OOC: You may post any exiting posts here if you wish, else this thread is through. |
