Part 2 of This Arc The first part of the plan to steal powerful artifacts from one of the strongest guilds in Magnolia had proved to be quite a success. Desire had to admit that fortune had been very favorable to her, as far as matters were concerned, even if she, for her own part, wasn't as powerful as she would have hoped. Fate had brought enemies that were not so strong as well her way, and coupled with the help of the monster tree she had been lent, Desire had managed to gain the upper hand and escape the scene of her first battle, leaving her opponents at the mercy of the huge monster tree. Now she stood with her eyes set on the massive Fairy Tail guildhall standing before her. For the umpteenth time this day, Desire wondered how she could be so lucky, making advances on a guild that was known for its power, and meeting minimal resistance. Of course, the mysterious mastermind, who was behind the whole stint, had informed Desire that most of the people in the guild who were capable of causing her problems were out, leaving the guildhall ripe for the plucking. Too good to be true. And for someone who had a feeling that Lady Luck didn't like her one bit, Desire's sense of apprehension kept growing by the minute. So she attempted to get into the guildhall as quickly as possible, but the first problem she encountered was the door. It was locked, and she could not break it. While performing theatrical displays of frustration was mollifying, in such situations, it tended to leave the greater part of the task at hand undone, so Desire decided to keep her frustration inside, as she began searching the perimeter of the building for something or some way she could use to get inside. Perhaps attempting to climb would proffer a solution... but that looked difficult. While Desire cracked her brain on possible entry points into the guildhall, unknown to her, and perhaps to the two mages who would come looking for her, something lay in wait, a fail-safe against interruptions to the Fairy Tail robbery plan. Act two had begun: rob the fairies. |

Cleia's plan had worked perfectly... okay, there were a few hitches, but they were not capable of foiling the progress of the Fairy Tail mages. Her Banshiyou Ketukai had been sufficient to keep out the monster tree's vines, and even though the barrier had eventually given way to the constricting pressure of the tree's limbs, Brian and Cleia had made it safely underground. It seemed that the tree had been suddenly made aware of their escape, and it had tried to snag them with its roots. Fortunately, as the roots were heavier and more lignified than its vines, they had been slower, and before they could grow into blocking the mages' escape route, the Fairy Tail folk had burst through and were heading in a general westward direction. Cleia did not really know the tunnels in and out, but she was sure that she couldn't get lost in Magnolia city. So, once they had ditched the tree, they would resurface, and once she identified the street they were on, getting back to the guild would be easy street (no punishments for making something pun-ish, right?) At this current time, Brian and Cleia would have covered considerable distance underground, and the elfin girl was sure that it was safe to make it to the open. Besides, the sewers had unfriendly smells and inhabitants (like those two-feet rats that didn't seem in the least frightened by the mages' presence, though they showed some hostility if they were approached), and the sun and fresh air would be a welcome sight and smell. After scanning the 'ceiling' and walls for a while, she noticed a ladder which led upwards. Certainly, this was their ticket out of this foul place. Cleia quickly ascended the ladder, and with some effort, forced the manhole open. A thick, healthy golden shaft of sunlight flooded in, and squinting, Cleia clambered out and gratefully took a lungful of morning air. Then, she looked around. She stood on a side street in Magnolia, one that she was not very familiar with, but finding the main street would not be a problem. She could almost see the surprised expression that would register on Pinkie's face, when she was met by Brian and Cleia. That, however, was not going to bring any smiles to Cleia's face, because the only thing she knew about Pinkie was that her true power was somehow sealed within her. And of course, being cornered, Pinkie would go all out to defeat them. The smiles would have to wait until the day was done and Fairy Tail was victorious... or then again, someone had told Cleia that skulls did have a peculiar smile, too, in case she lost and was killed in the process... Shaking her head slightly as she mentally flushed away such a hideous notion, she waited for Brian to join her on the surface. |

Brian had followed Cleia down into the sewers. The smell was positively foul. A combination of rank sourness with a mixture of sweet. It had to be the fecal matter and methane that he was taking in. He kept holding back the desire to vomit despite the slight heaving motion that his stomach was making. He had to keep his eyes on Cleia whom he could only see thanks to the glowing runes on her body in the dark. This was another spell or item that Brian needed to get: something to illuminate dark areas. Maybe once he got out of this he would start shopping for things like glow sticks or flashlights. Though having access to a spell that illuminated dark passage ways would be nice too. Finally, they stopped and he saw the runes that belonged to Cleia rise upward and he could hear her footsteps setting on something metallic. She must have found a ladder. It was hard to tell given how his eyes hadn't adjusted to the dark yet. But then he heard something heavy scraping against something else above him. Looking up he saw the golden ray of sunlight shine down into the darkness with Cleia illuminated by it. "At last, daylight," Brian thought and climbed up after Cleia. He found himself standing on one of the side streets of Magnolia. Nothing looked very familiar and it was also because of how his eyes were still straining themselves against the light. First they tried to adjust to the dark and now they were adjusting to the light and the pain was their way of saying to Brian, "Make up your mind." He looked to Cleia and made motions with his hands that they must head towards the Guild Hall and stop Desire. OOC

OOC: Sorry for the break in transmission. Continuing.... While the two Fairy Tail mages had been making their way through the spectacularly homely complex called Magnolia's sewer system with all its attending sights and sounds, the pink-haired cause of it all was scanning the grounds of the Fairy Tail guildhall in an effort to get inside. While attempting to break the windows might work, the stout iron criss-crossings beyond the windows would make it absolutely impossible for people without heavy muscle to break in. Then an idea hit Desire. Most buildings were designed with anti-burglary screens on the lower windows, but there weren't so many precautions on higher floors, because it was not likely that people would be able to get into such windows, due to their heights. All the same, with magic granting a good number of people the ability to fly and stuff, it was a possibility that the higher-up windows on this building had such screens as were present on the lower floors. However, it was all worth a try. Desire removed her high-heeled sandals as she made a mental note on how to scale the building. Her sandals, while comfortable with her, would make it a bit more difficult to climb. A normal person could say "a lot more difficult to climb", but Desire's agility and balance were enviable, even among acrobats. Running a short distance, the half-demon girl kicked off the wall of the immense hall to jump higher. Her hand found a handhold on the designed upper frame of a windowsill, and she pulled herself up, carefully but surely making her way up the building.... In the meantime, a strange laughing sound would catch the attention of the two waiting mages on the street. A strange whitish figure, its body twisted and obviously woody, grew up from the earth of the street, and began to form a humanoid structure. As it formed, a mouth ringed with sharp teeth split open on the head of the monstrous form, and the annoying rasping sound became louder. "Hello, lady and gentleman," it said, with a hoarse whisper of a voice. "I am offended and pleased as I speak to you. Offended that you didn't allow yourselves to get killed by the huge tree back there that you were so nasty to. I mean, cutting vines and roots? Who does that? Don't you guys know that photosynthesis clears away much of the rubbish you humans release into the air with all your annoying fires?" It shrugged and cleared its throat... or whatever passed for a throat. "My bad, my bad. Where are my manners. I should not rail at you and say such things to you. Let me instead inform you about why I am pleased. I am pleased because you both have a chance to remedy the situation you have created. How, by lying down at my feet and allowing me to kill you while you whisper my praises.I believe that is the best thing to do. So who wants to go first? I promise it will be as painless as possible, but I don't guarantee that it'll be quick." |

Brian's hand gestures were perfectly understood by Cleia, and she nodded. "If I am correct, we're still due west of the guild hall. Once we can locate any major street, which should not be a problem, all we have to do is..." The words were still on her lips when a harsh sound startled her, suddenly coming out of nowhere. Cleia instinctively skipped away from the sound and went into a defensive posture. She soon determined the source of this sound, which oddly was some form of manic cackle. It came from whatever being was constructing itself, or growing itself, or doing whatever out of the ground. As it formed itself, Cleia was somewhat irritated that the first organ it would organize and use was its mouth. Add that to the laugh, and she was sure that this thing, whatever it was, would have a rotten sense of humor. It started off as civil, but to be honest, she couldn't say she followed all the junk it started spouting about cutting roots and photosynthesis and stuff (okay, photosynthesis had to do with plants; she knew that, but how was that connected with anything?) She listened to it with increasing annoyance. This thing was obviously here to stop Brian and herself from getting to the guildhall, where Pinkie was probably performing whatever diabolic enterprise it was that she was up to. It was a distraction, but she couldn't tell just how strong it was. She considered their options. It would be more prudent to dispatch this thing together, and then get to the guild, but by then, Pinkie would have succeeded in her mission, and who knew what other disaster she might unleash on Magnolia? The other option was to split up; one of them would take on this thing, while the other would take off to intercept Pinkie. Of course, the one who went after Pinkie might meet some other diversion on the road... if so, then they were never meant to stop Pinkie. "I think, sir, that this thing is only meant to delay us," Cleia said to Brian, as she took a step towards the laughing creature. "Head on to Fairy Tail and stop Pinkie, while I handle this. You seem to have known her from somewhere, and she might still be open to talks with you or something. She thoroughly hates me, I think, so my coming there will only instigate a fight. Here, however, a fight seems inevitable. Time is of the essence." She turned back to the raspy voiced thing. "I have a better offer, Woody. How about you help us deal with Pinkie, and we'll transplant you anywhere else you'd like," she said with a smirk. Then, the smile faded. "Anything else, I'm afraid, will be met with the same answer: get the heck out of our way!" |

Brian had no time to debate the plan. He only nodded at Cleia and then turned and made his mad dash towards the Guild Hall. He ran until he could feel that constricting feeling in his lungs like he wanted nothing more than to stop and cough everything out of lungs. His legs were even starting to sting from the impacts of each foot upon the hard ground. But he tried to ignore the pain when he saw the guild hall in the distance. Despite trying to ignore the pain, he had to stop and cough and breathe. While his body was making it's own miniature recovery he looked around for the one called "Desire" to see if she was anywhere close to the guild hall. It occurred to him that if she got anywhere ahead of him, he would have to start running again to catch up with her. He took one big breath and coughed again before starting up on his dash again towards the Guild Hall OOC

Oblivious to the fact that at present one of the Fairy Tail mages was closing in on her location, Desire continued struggling with her upward ascent. At the present moment, she was on a low roof, one of the roofs of one of the lower tiers of roofs on the Fairy Tail building. Annoyingly, the windows on this level still had burglary screenings. Ah well, she was sure a higher window would have no screens. Whichever the case, the sooner she was done with this breaking-in and stealing, the more comfortable she would feel. She would probably just run away from Magnolia and not bother coming back again after this, but first things first. Walking up to the nearest wall, she began seeking a handhold... ...while the monstrosity that stood before the Fairy Tail mages took his time to listen as the short child asked the older fellow to stop 'Pinkie', then asked him to join in the hunt for this Pinkie. Was she joking? She must be joking. "Three things, brat," the plant monster said, as he developed humanoid arms and legs, "One: I have no idea who or what Pinkie is, and I'm not interested in stopping it, whatever it is. Two: I'm not interested in working with plant haters like your sort, and I obviously do not need transplanting." What would pass off as the creature's left hand developed into wicked-looking woody claws. Then the plant-being launched itself at Cleia, aiming to swipe at her with its jagged claws. "Three: My name isn't Woody. It's Johnny!" |

This was one of the situations where she wished she was wrong. It would be more normal if this thing was just some silent, serious monster that was all out for blood, but in a case where it was giving off all those silly jokes while bearing no goodwill to her was just plain annoying. Fortunately, Brian made his getaway without much incident; heck, the creature didn't even try to stop his exit. Leaving it with her. Cleia felt sort of alone, but she knew she had to do this as a well meaning member of the society, and more importantly as a member of Fairy Tail. It was up to the good guys to stop the bad guys. By this time, the wood monster had developed arms and legs, rendering it fully motile. It would be doing a lot of screeching and jumping about, she was sure. She hoped that its wooden body would not allow it to be too fast, since lignified wood was not really flexible. Judging from the way it could morph its body parts as it so desired, Cleia was afraid that this creature would prove to be faster than she was; well, she was actually not very fast to start off with. With any luck, it wouldn't get to turn her to ribbons before she managed to neutralize it. It sprang. Cleia took a step back, not to run, but to give herself a lower center of gravity and improve her balance. She was not willing to waste her time on this creature, so she would start off trying to take it out. If it underestimated her, then this battle would prove to be a short one, in her favor. She opened both palms, and runes spiraled into them rapidly to form two sickle like weapons in both her hands. Swiftly, she raised the one in her off-hand to parry the incoming blow; she wasn't really ambidextrous, but at least, it ought to deflect most, if not all of the blow. The one in her main hand made a diagonal cut towards the creature's face, in an attempt to slice its head in two, one way or the other. Actions

In Brian's dash towards the guild hall, he could see the pink haired woman making her way to one of the high windows. He knew that the windows were safe from burglarly thanks to the spells that were placed around the window edges. But this was a fairly accomplished wizard so simple spells weren't going to hold her out for long. He watched her climbing up from the lower tier roof to the higher ones. Brian still feeling the constricting and coughing sensation in his lungs, he dashed through the main part of the guild hall and made his way up to the second tier. Once there, he opened the window and climbed out and saw the pink haired woman making her way up. He pulled out both of his guns, his spell gun and his lacrima-ammo gun and pointed them both at her. He held his ground saying with his stance that if she surrendered, she wouldn't be harmed. |

Desire was beginning to hope that she had a shot at getting into the Fairy Tail guild hall, when her extra-sensory perceptive ability detected a life form just before she heard a clicking sound, and a window opened. The first thing the pink-haired girl saw was the nozzle of a gun pointed at her. Okay, scratch that, two guns. She groaned mentally. Just when she was sure she wouldn't meet any interruptions at the Fairy Tail guild hall. She looked up into the stern expression of the Fairy Tail gun mage in surprise. What had happened to the monster tree? She hadn't expected that her two opponents would have escaped from the clutches of the huge plant creature. Whichever the case, the short brat was nowhere to be found. Maybe the tree had taken out the brat, so at least there would be less to contend with. However, Desire was sure her opponent was stronger than she was. She would have to act very prudently in this fight. Also, range was definitely not on her side, so she would have to find a way to close the distance between herself and the gun mage. Taking cognizance of her position, the Take-Over mage confirmed that she was by now two stories up from the ground. What she would do would be risky if she failed, but Desire was confident in her agility. Without a word, the girl dropped to the roof below her, slid off it, and onto the next roof below, before slipping under the eaves of the upper roof as quickly as she could. At this rate, Brian would be now on a higher floor, and the eaves would cut her off from his line of vision. He would have to descend to a lower floor if he wanted to catch her. Meanwhile, the plant monstrosity before Cleia didn't seem bothered that she had successfully defended against its attack; on the Fairy Tail mage's part, she would discover that the woody creature that called itself Johnny was just slightly physically stronger than she was, and somewhat slower as well. But it had an advantage she didn't. As Cleia's weapon met the lignified tissues that made up its head, the scythe cut clean through, opening a great gash, as the creature collapsed backwards. It lay motionless on the ground for a moment, then suddenly released a flurry of vines from its midsection as the gash on its 'head' sealed rapidly. "See, you even have evil harvesting tools. You were made to destroy plants. You are too wicked...." Its voice for a moment seemed to crack, as if it was trying not to cry. Then the tone of voice steeled out with resolution. "I cannot let you live." ACTIONS
