Much to Adrian's chagrin the two guards in fact did not leave which left him in a rather difficult predicament. See the guards hanging around would have only been a problem if they kept the chest in their line of sight which unfortunately they did and that meant the Take Over Mage had two options: Either he waits for the guards to leave or he takes them out. Waiting would take too long as the longer Adrian stayed here the higher the chance of him being caught so he was going to have to take these two guards out; fortunately the element of surprise would assist in that. As the Take Over Mage pondered how to take out these guards he felt like he was being watched by someone but it wasn't the guards so he shook the feeling off. Adrian took a deep breath and charged out from behind the painting. As he ran towards the guards he turned into his Venomthrope for. The Venomthrope was basically a mixture between a human, an Octopus and a snake. Adrian had picked this form because it was the best one to capitalize on the element of surprise. As the Venomthrope charged towards the two guards it unleashed a large smoke screen with the intent of throwing the guards off and hopefully take them by surprise. The Take Over Mage sent tentacles out and wrapped them around both of the guards picking them up, or attempting to, then bashed their skulls together. Adrian wasn't trying to kill them but he had hit them with enough force to knock them out or he would depending upon the guard's stats. If the guards had been knocked out by Adrian's sneak attack then he would drop them behind a large collection of relics which fortunately obstructed them from view of the entrance. Now that those guards were taken care of Adrian would turn back into his human form and return to the chest after he made sure Ozzy and Buzzles were okay which as expected they were. Adrian ran his fingers along the groves in the chest putting his ear close to it listening for the sound of the lock or any sound really. The Take Over Mage found himself wishing he knew how to pick locks or had some magical object with which to unlock locks but alas he had not been informed of his task ahead of time meaning preparation was...not possible. techniques/stats/cooldown

The guards were frankly quite startled by the sudden appearance of a man-octopus-snake-thing and while they raised their weapons in a somewhat half-hearted attempt to defend themselves they were essentially completely overrun by the incoming beast-thing. The smoke that hit them caused them both to cough and choke as it spread towards and then around them in a massive wave and the tentacles that hit them well... well, let's just say they did their jobs and boy-howdy. The men were unconscious within moments and Adrian was now alone - or so he would think anyway. Once deposited safely away he had little to openly worry about. As Adrian returned to the chest however and began to run his fingers over it the hidden watcher stepped out and finally revealed themselves, a small wild-looking girl with huge eyes, bright red hair and garbed in what seemed like scraps of clothing and rags with some animal furs thrown in. "Why are you trying to open the blackbox?" she said as she slowly stepped into the light, watching Adrian carefully. This poor girl's name was Kuina, a wild child from the streets of Trillium who had stumbled her way down an alleyway one day and ended up down a long chute, winding up here. She had no idea how long she'd been here now only that she knew the ins and outs of not only this vault but the entire building like the back of her hand. She scrounged food where she could and avoided guards and security with complete ease and while she knew all the secrets here she was still wary of strangers. But since this one had dealt with the guards and not the other way around he was worth approaching at the least. "You need the key silly," she said with her large eyes affixed directly on Adrian, though seemingly midway through helping him her attention shifted completely; "What's your birds name?" |

As Adrian was investigating the box searching for some manner with which to open it he was surprised to hear someone other than him talking. Looking up from the black box the Take Over Mage blinked surprised to see a blue eyed young girl wearing scraps of clothing and animal furs. Adrian wasn't sure if that was simply this girls sense of fashion or if she was unable to find any better clothes which might imply she was homeless. "Um..well because I need what is inside it and it's too...difficult to carry out. Not without getting caught." Honestly Adrian was actually very concerned about opening the chest; Astrea had told him not to but it's not like he had a choice. Adrian seeing the contents of the chest was a reasonable price to pay if it meant Astrea getting what she wanted. Adrian realised that he had no way to open the chest which was not exactly good news as that meant he'd have to carry it out. The problem with carrying it out wasn't because it would be difficult but because carrying a chest and fighting at the same time would be problematic. "Uh..okay. Thanks. Do..you know where the key is?..Oh I'm Adrian by the way. Pleased to meet you." Adrian smiled at this girl doing his best to not scare her or anything. The Take Over Mage didn't know why but he felt like this little girl was important hence why he didn't want to scare her off; it was too much of a coincidence for this girl to be in this vault and for her to not be important somehow. "Um she's call Ozzy." The baby Ostrich stood up and squawked at Kuina tilting her head sideways in an inquisitive bird like fashion. "And the beetle is called Buzzles..I'm not very good with names....what's your name? I should have asked sooner sorry..kind of rude not to." Adrian had a nervous smile across his face. He was caught between a mixture of concern and relief. Relief because this little girl may be able to help him open the chest but also concern because if he did open it and carry the contents out, which would be the most effective way to get Astrea what she wanted, then maybe the Queen Dragon would decide he had failed. The Take Over Mage wished he asked Astrea about the possibility of needing to open the chest to get its contents out of the building before he left. "Actually....better question. Do you know a way out of here? One that I can carry this chest through without being caught by the guards?" Adrian decided to just do as he had been instructed and not think for himself; the risk wasn't worth it. So much for confidence building. (So..I assume if he was to open it he'd fail Queeny's trials? Regardless of whatever reasoning he had behind it?) |

The girl simply stared at the man who wanted to open the black box thing, cocking her head slightly to one side as though she were quite confused. She didn't understand what he meant by taking it out, nor what he meant by not getting caught. If he didn't want to get caught... couldn't he just not be seen? It definitely seemed that easy to her. She still didn't do anything but stare when he asked her where the key was, mostly because she had only a vague idea and she'd help him out with what she knew... but only if he gave her what she wanted. She looked out for number one after all, that was how she had survived this long. "Luu's name is Luu!" she said simply, pointing to herself after he had finally said the name of the bird was Ozzy and his was Adrian -she didn't bother listening to the bug's name and the rest of his questions were too complex for a girl of 10- "Can Ozzy and Luu play? If Luu tells Adrian where the key is can they play today all day? Luu likes birds, she doesn't see many of them down here..." Truth be told she did know where the key was, or at least who had it. There was a very short, squat, ugly man with glasses who came down sometimes and opened the chest and gazed at what was inside for hours on end. She also knew his office was five floors above -though she couldn't count to five- just as she also knew there was a guard station one floor up directly outside the nearby elevator and that there was an emergency exit three floors up that she couldn't open because it required a concentrated burst of magic - and hers was all instinct. But she didn't say any of this because she really wanted to play with the bird. "If Luu and Ozzy can play then Adrian can get his key!" |

The confused expression on the girl's face and the way she cocked her head sideways didn't exactly fill Adrian with much confidence that she'd be able to help. This girl gave off the impression of one of those types that hadn't exactly gone through a proper education, not to mean she was unintelligent she just hadn't been to school or anything. Honestly Adrian couldn't blame Lulu for not having attended school considering his only experience with a formal education was the knight's academy and we both know how that went. Adrian was cautious about letting Lulu play with Ozzy. Yes she was a ten year old girl and probably not very dangerous but then again magic was a thing and considering how Lulu hadn't been caught by the owners of the building yet meant there was probably more to her than meets the eye and no I don't mean she's a transformer. "Well..yeah sure go ahead.Just be careful with her okay?" Adrian reached up to his head, picked Ozzy up and gently put her down on the ground. The Take Over Mage's expression could best be described as apprehensive, he was basically entrusting the closest thing he had to family to a stranger's care. Said stranger was very suspicious. Ozzy squawked and rose to her feet and shook her body slightly. She looked at Adrian and then turned her attention towards Lulu before walking over to her and looking up at Lulu's eyes. Unlike Adrian Ozzy was less paranoid and insecure about things, in fact she was a lot more confident and trustworthy than her "owner"/adoptive "father." Ozzy would gently peck at Lulu's foot no where near hard enough to cause any pain or damage however the young girl would probably feel it. Adrian was concerned that Lulu might end up harming Ozzy or that something would happen to her however on the other hand if he wanted the key to the chest he didn't have much choice. There was a third option: carry the chest out but that would be very...difficult considering its weight. Edited by LunarCataphract, Apr 12 2015, 02:04 PM.

[[OOC: Yo it's Luu, not Lulu]] Luu's face lit up the instant Adrian said that she could play with the bird and she put her hands behind her back and waited patiently as he put his small bird down onto the ground. Almost vibrating with excitement Luu bounced up and down on her toes over and over, watching the little thing turn to look at her owner before back to the girl. She approached slowly, though any approach at all was a good sign, but even though it wasn't a quick run it wasn't a wary one either. The bird could sense the girl meant no harm and as soon as it reached her and pecked her foot the girl giggled brightly and bent down to pat the birds body softly. "Luu thinks this is so cool!" she said with so much happiness denying her right then would have been like telling an infant they couldn't see their mother, "Ahhhhh!" Her little squeal wasn't very loud but it did carry a little in the enormity of the vault. Reverberating around there was a very very slim chance it would wake the guards (it didn't) but the girl bent down to pick up the little bird and held it up to her face, her eyes wide and her smile huge. "The key is in a room with one of those screen things that people tip-tap away on with a board of keys," she said without taking her eyes off of Ozzy to Adrian, "It's um... this many levels up," she moved one hand and splayed out five fingers towards Adrian before putting it back to support and pat the bird, "And it's right next to the 'vator thing on the left side." So, five floors up the elevator on the left, not too hard to follow. "The guy in there is old and short and bald and he's probably asleep now," her attention still riveted on Ozzy, "And the key is around his neck on a chain thing. The elevator is that way," she gestured towards the door where the guards had come in, "And if you go up just be quick ok? I'll look after your bird while you go!" And again she said this with such confidence there was almost no saying no to her. And if Adrian did as she directed he would find she was right - five floors up, in the office on the left next to the door there was an old, short, bald man sleeping in his chair. With a key made of black stone around his neck... |

(Eh names are not my forte xD) Ozzy rubbed her head against Luu's hand jiggling her little body side to side in a cute and very silly manner. A first Adrian was concerned that Luu's squeal would cause the alarm to be raised but luckily enough it didn't go past the vault which was fortunate. The Take Over Mage smiled happy to see that Luu was happy with playing with Ozzy. Adrian couldn't help but feel sad that when he left he would need to take Ozzy with him, which meant that Luu wouldn't get to see her anymore. When Ozzy was picked up by Luu she got comfortable and snuggled up in the young girl's hands. Once the baby Ostrich was brought close to Luu's head she would look at the girl's nose and gently peck it. Five floors up to the left of the elevator was the location of the key. Right well then. "Okay..thank you Luu." Adrian had no reason to distrust Luu as she had shown no motivation or reason to want to hurt Ozzy. The Take Over Mage rose to his feet and walked to the elevator taking it up five floors. When he exited the elevator he was lucky that nobody was there which was just as lucky as nobody else trying to hop a ride on the elevator as Adrian took it up. Like Luu had said to the left of the elevator there was indeed an office and inside this office a bald old man was indeed asleep. The Take Over Mage silently sneaked up towards him making as little noise as was possible. Once he was close enough Adrian grabbed a nearby pair of scissors and using it to cut the key free from the string it was attached to. Fortunately before cutting the string Adrian had wrapped his hand around the key so that when it was cut free, it wouldn't fall to and land on the bald man's chest which was good because Adrian did not want him to wake up. With the key in hand the Take Over Mage silently crept out of the office and headed back to the elevator. He would ride it all the way back down to the vault and, provided he wasn't interrupted, return to the chest with the key in hand. "Hey there Luu. Having fun?" Adrian smiled and crouched down next to the chest contemplating opening it. The Take Over Mage put the key in the lock and turned it, opening the chest to reveal the contents inside. |

Sure, Adrian got in easily and got the key without the man waking up. Sure, he got back in the elevator and got back down to the vault without an issue. Sure, he now had placed the key in the lock and opened it with Luu watching, Ozzy on her shoulder. But were things really ever that easy? Please. What do you take this for? In the offices above the man woke up with a start as the elevator doors 'dinged' closed and he shook himself out of his reverie, a little surprised to find he had fallen asleep. He must have been working harder than he realised, and for longer. Sarah would probably be mad he hadn't come home for lunch, he had said he wou- With a start his hand shot up to his throat, the familiar weight of the artificial key no longer there. With a cry he ran to his door and bellowed for security, pointing at the elevator and demanding to know who had gone down. Since none of the other doors were even unlocked and the only other way to the floor was guarded someone had to have come from that way! Luu didn't reply as the man returned, instead too busy playing with Ozzy and -somehow- conversing with the little bird in it's native tongue. It was unclear how she could do this but it was chirping back at her happily as they ran around the various artefacts therein. But the main focus was on Adrian as he put the key in the lock and opened the chest that Astrea had asked him not to open. Surely he wouldn't be punished right? Her instructions had been very explicit after all but would the Queen of the Dragons, a race of beings that had been betrayed by humans before, be mad he had betrayed her and ignored her instructions? Surely not... right? Well, as the chest opened it revealed a thick red velvet inside, a flat surface with an indentation in the center on which rested a thick white book. At least, it looked like a book. It was bound pages in a thick leathery exterior but there were no words on it that Adrian would recognise, instead it was inscribed in runes. Hundreds of them that moved around strangely, flowing over the surface of the tome like water. Still it was hard to touch but there was a large leather strap -black this time- around it to prevent it from opening. No matter what Adrian chose to do now the course of action was dictated as the elevator door went ding and a man stepped out, the man Adrian had taken the key from, followed by half a dozen guards with wicked looking blades and spears. "Did you really think," the man said ominously as Luu and Ozzy moved to hide behind Adrian, "You could steal from us? That there were no cameras? Guards, seize them!" |

It was when Adrian returned that he was grateful, and happy, to see both Ozzy and the little girl playing together. Taking a few moments to admire the sight Adrian found it strange how Ozzy and the little girl seemed to be able to communicate with other despite being utterly different races..but that was what magic was for. Deciding to leave Ozzy and the little girl to their fun, after all there wasn't much in the way of danger right about now, the take over mage turned his attention back to the chest. It seemed that Luu had been correct that the key did in fact fit the chest as it opened up. The contents of this chest was the thing Adrian had been sent here for..finally he could get what he came for and get the hell out of here. As the chest opened and Adrian saw the book inside he got a sudden sense of dread that Astrea would be very...unhappy with how he hadn't followed her instructions. But hopefully the fact that A. Opening the chest would make completing Astrea's task easier and B.The fact Adrian couldn't nor would open the book and C.The fact he couldn't read the runes would hopefully be enough to sooth any grievances on Astrea's part over. Standing up with the book in hand Adrian slipped it away inside his armour and whistled for Ozzy to come over. As expected Ozzy came over which made Adrian feel very...bad. He had, probably, just put an end to the first time Luu had been able to play with another living creature in who knew how long? It was because of that guilt Adrian decided to ask the little girl a question. "Uh..Luu?..Would you like to come with me? I mean I have to leave with Ozzy now..and I feel kind of bad as you and her seemed to be having fun together..so..would you like to?" Adrian picked up the small bird and placed her down gently on top of his head smiling sincerely at Luu. He did fully mean what he said. He would have no problem whatsoever with Luu coming around for play dates with Ozzy. It was at that moment the elevator dinged and Adrian turned to face it. His heart rate jumped up many beats as he saw the former owner of the key march out with half a dozen guards armed with various weapons. It seemed that Adrian's element of surprise had now been fully blown but oh well..it'd have to happen eventually. As a fight was about to break out Adrian looked towards Luu and spoke "Luu..try and get out of the way. I don't want to see you harmed." Luu could probably take care of herself but the over protective Adrian felt, as the coming fight was his fault to begin was, he was responsible for ensuring her safety. "Look I really don't want to fight you guys....." Adrian handed Ozzy to Luu with a nod to keep her safe. "I'll handle these guys.." Adrian ran forward and used his spear to pole vault into the air. On the way down he activated his magic and turned into a Carnotaurus hopefully landing on top of a few of the guards. As the Take-Over Mage was now quite literally in the thick of things he activated his technique "Rotation barrier" and spun around using his tail to give a few of the guards a damn good smack. Adrian didn't stay still for long as he thrusted his head forward trying to slam the old man into the far wall of the vault. It might seem like Adrian was trying to kill these people but really he was just trying to either knock them out cold or get them to surrender. Death was not something he wanted to bring today..especially for something as selfish as what had brought Adrian here. The take over mage looked back at Luu and roared, trying to say "please jump on my back" as right now Adrian wasn't sure if he could afford to leave Luu behind. The guards probably knew she was present and god knows what they'd do to her if they caught her. the techs Adrian used

[[OOC: Apologies for the delay]] The girl hadn't had time to answer Adrian's question when he had offered to take her away with him, all she had had time to do was blink in confusion and look down at the bird, somewhat lost in thought for the first time in her young life. She wasn't the type of person to think things through, partly because she'd never had the opportunity and partly her wild girl nature. But this was an interesting development and, if she'd had time to think it over, maybe she would have said yes. Maybe they could have had fun together and travelled... So many maybes. But Adrian launched himself into the guards, bravely rushing to defend the girl and his bird and to return the book to the Queen Dragon, regardless of his chances of survival. He probably hadn't counted on these men being stronger than the last ones, considerably stronger in fact as most of them dodged backwards from the rotating dinosaur and the two who didn't took it head on, not getting knocked back but taking some damage. But the biggest surprise was the old man. As he was rushed he held up one hand, palm outwards, and a flat barrier appeared in the air before him. It stopped Adrian dead in his tracks as he hit it and probably caused a little bit of an 'oof' as the wind was slammed out of him upon impact. But there were more barriers forming now, some around Adrian almost as if to box him in. No matter how hard the dino-man would try they would not break, and as the last one began to form above him it looked like he was trapped... And then suddenly, Luu was there. From far behind to taking a step off his back in the blink of an eye, the small girl launched herself forwards, one fist reeling back and then launching forwards, slamming into the barrier and exploding it outwards, shards of magic splaying backwards. Immediately all the barriers vanished as the old man went flying, slamming into the wall near the door and slumping over as Luu landed easily, her hands shimmering with pure unadulterated force. "Run away, mister lizard man," she said simply, eyeing the guards who were reforming in front of her, all their weapons held ready, "Take the cute bird and run. Luu will stop them from chasing you. Take your book and find your friend and be happy. Luu..." she stopped for a moment and swallowed a small sob, instead her tone remaining firm and prepared, "Luu would have liked to play... a little longer... now go. GO!" With that second word Adrian was sent flying by a push of air, skidding him back towards Ozzy and amusingly near the ladder they had entered by. As he landed he would maybe see Luu launching into the fray, the guards lashing out hard and fast but the small girl fighting back with such ferocity, her small body the only thing standing against Adrian, Ozzy and a very probable death. She would sacrifice herself for them, just because they had been a little kind to her for the first time in her living memory. Maybe they could play again... one day... but for now Adrian's task was clear: Run. |
