While Adrian was perfectly able to lie, and about average at it, he still didn't like it, so after he told the female receptionist that total lie about his sister losing her purse the take over mage had his heart in his mouth. Adrian wasn't sweating nor was he looking away from the receptionist or scratching his nose, but there was other tells he was lying, such as his heart rate increasing. When the female spoke Adrian felt a moment of relief wash over him, it seemed the receptionist had bought his story, which was a good thing. As Adrian didn't even have a sister he had no idea if Level 3 would be the best place for him to go but still, it was a part of the building that wasn't the reception, so maybe up there he could find out more information? "Uhhh..I think so? I don't really know much about her work so I'll have to take your word for it.." Shrugging his shoulders Adrian rubbed the back of his neck, smiling warmly when the receptionist clasped the ID pass to his shirt. "Thank you for your help miss" And with that the Take Over Mage approached the elevator. Part of Adrian felt a little bad he had taken advantage of the helpful, and rather polite, receptionist but honestly he didn't have much of a choice in the matter. When he walked into the elevator Adrian noticed the security camera in the corner watching him, but he made no effort to hide his face, after all the receptionist already knew what he looked like and numerous other cameras probably had his face, so their was little point in hiding his face any longer. Adrian had a feeling that maybe the receptionist would be checking in with level three to see if he had arrived, which ran the risk of giving the element of surprise away. Adrian stood in front of the panel with the buttons on, blocking the camera from seeing what button he was going to press. The Take Over mage pressed the button for floor two and remained standing still as the elevator lurched downwards, taking him to the second floor. As useful as elevators were Adrian had never really used one before in his life, so this was a new concept for him, and an unnerving one; hurtling downwards in a sealed metallic box wasn't exactly pleasant was it? When the elevator arrived on the second floor with a ding, the doors would open and Adrian walked out, finding himself faced with a short corridor and a small locked door way. Call this Adrian's strange sense of intuition but he believed that important things were kept behind locked doors and so he attempted to open the door, jimmying the handle a little bit. As Adrian jimmied his heart was back in his throat, as he himself was worried he'd set an alarm off but no, when the door opened up that didn't happen and Adrian could relax. Behind this door was a stair case that descended numerous flights downwards and it was this stair case Adrian took, his strange sense of intuition leading him to believe that normally important objects were kept under lock and key in basements, such as the chest. As Adrian walked he gently pat Ozzy on her head and whispered for her to be quiet, he couldn't have her squawking and getting him in trouble now could he? Fortunately Ozzy was smart and she obliged keeping quiet as Adrian exited the stair case. When the Take Over mage did exit the stair case he found himself in a wide open area similar to the lobby, with a check point at the end and black columns decorating the place, or maybe they just held up the ceiling, didn't really matter at the end. Noticing the guards Adrian swiftly, and as silently as he could, got out of the door frame and took cover in a dark shadowy patch behind the nearest pillar, which would hopefully allow him to observe the guards without him being caught. There was three guards at the end of the corridor by the checkpoint and a fourth one patrolling around, none of which knew Adrian was there and the Take Over Mage wanted to keep things that way. Adrian knew these guys were just doing their job so he didn't want to fight them, and potentially injure them, hence why he decided to do stealth. Adrian took a deep breath and turned into one of his take over forms, that of the Dilophosaurus which was just under a meter tall and very dark in colouration, two things that would make it easier to sneak around in the shadows. After Adrian changed his form Ozzy and Buzzles found themselves on the dinosaur's head and back respectively, after all he couldn't leave them behind and so he got to moving. Adrian walked softly, sticking to the shadows and observing the patrolling guard, only moving from one pillar to the next when that guard was looking away, which was a good thing. If everything went to plan the take over mage would soon find himself behind the pillar closest to the check point, observing it and the three guards standing nearby to ensure he wouldn't give himself away. The patrolling guard was still a risk that was true, but Adrian had positioned a pillar between himself and that guard, which combined with the shadows and the dark coloration of his current form worked together to reduce the likelihood of him being seen. Adrian's plan for the time being was to wait and watch the checkpoint, to see if anything happened that would give him the chance to sneak through, and if not? Well, if no chance made itself apparent, then Adrian would create his own chance somehow. |

Adrian was partially correct on the idea of the receptionist, in that she did send through a memo to the third floor to expect a visitor there to find a missing purse. As it so happened through the mysterious skeins of fate one of the employees had actually left their purse there the night before, but she was just now walking through the front door and heading to an elevator to go up... Now, the guards in the area Adrian found himself in were not unaware of a recent arrival to their floor - despite the long area between the elevator's arrival and the foyer where Adrian was attempting to enter a small red light at the top of the entrance warned those below when the elevator had made a stop on their floor, so the men down there were on guard somewhat and prepared to react if it turned out to be a functionary, an employee or -in the rare cases- an infiltator. When nobody arrived via the small dumb-waiter elevator however they relaxed slightly, assuming it was a case of mistake but they were still on guard, enough that they were not as clueless as they seemed. 'Someone else is here,' they indicated through a crude and unique sign language to each other as one of them felt a surge of magic nearby, for that was his particular ability, 'Shall we deploy?' 'No,' their leader signed back, 'Wait and see the intentions, we know they are here but not where and it is too easy to hide.' The men were very well trained after all and soon a second one of the trio at the end had joined the patrolling guard, mirroring his movements on the other side of the room. And coming quite close to Adrian's location... |

Adrian knew that time was limited and when he saw the guards weren't moving from their positioned by the door, which was problematic but not unexpected, however it threw a metaphorical monkey wrench into Adrian's plans. Adrian needed to draw the guards away, as he had no idea what in the name of Earthland they would do if they caught him, the least of which would be kicking him out and that would result in a failure of this mission. Adrian had an idea of what to do to distract these guards, yet it wasn't the best plan he could have thought of. The Take Over Mage's best plan would have been to remain in his human form and throw something across the hallway..but he had nothing to throw, so even if Adrian was in his human form that idea would have failed. Taking a few moments to consider his next move Adrian decided that he would take advantage of the environment and the room he was in. Long corridors with little to no back ground tended to be good at making echos, which was what Adrian was planning to take advantage of. Adrian's current form had the ability to spit a poisonous fluid across long range, and liquids tended to create audible splashing sounds when they impacted the ground. The Take Over Mage knew he had to act quickly, as a second guard started patrolling and got closer and closer to Adrian's hiding place. The Take Over Mage took a deep breath and spat, launching a glob of liquid as far towards the entrance of the hall way as possible. The dark coloured tar like substance flew twenty meters across the hall way, hitting the wall near the elevator that Adrian had used. The liquid made a splashing sound which echoed through the hallway upon impact, which would hopefully attract the attention of the guards and after that.. well then Adrian would change forms and employ one of his other forms, but he doubted that would actually work. Adrian, after launching that glob of liquid, decided to move to the right by a couple of pillars, after all he couldn't go left as then the guards by the doors would have seen him, which he couldn't allow. |

Amusingly the distraction did in fact work, Adrian's movements were heard and the echoes immediately started but the splash of liquid at the end of the hall near the elevator immediately caught the attention of all three guards. The one in the center signalled to the other two to move forwards and they abandoned their movements on the side of the room to head to the main door, swords suddenly in hand even as the man at the back pulled out a large crossbow and levelled it behind his two allies. They were all prepared and all on point, watching out for anything that might be there before them. They didn't notice Adrian's movements again, didn't notice his changing forms. However upstairs did. A small alert went off as magic was detected downstairs, something that was strictly prohibited in this building in that area. The guards weren't aware at first however a small beep sounded in the "main" man's pocket, the man with the crossbow and he took a step forwards (leaving a small blind spot behind him that lead to a thick black door with no handle but was openable with a simple push into a black room) and picking up a walkie talkie to speak into it. And then he shouted to his men, confirming the intruder in their midst... |

Adrian was surprised that the guards fell for the trick of his distraction. He was kind of expecting things to go very bad very quickly but no. Two oft he guards drew their swords and approached the location where Adrian had spat his glob of liquid while the third equipped his crossbow and got into a position to provide support for his comrades. Adrian changed his form and went from the spitting Dilophosaurus form to the more stealth orientated Deviljho which unfortunately set off some alarm bells upstairs. These literal alarm bells resulted in the crossbow guard being made aware of Adrian's presence as he walked forward talking into his walkie talkie. Walking forward like that had left a gap between the crossbow guard and the door behind him which was all Adrian needed to sneak past. What made the Deviljho form great for this task was its ability to match the colours of the environment around it, exactly like a chameleon, and so Adrian became the same dark colours of the floor and pillars around him. He slowly and carefully walked behind the crossbow guard not making a single sound until he came to the door. The door had no handle, which at first worried Adrian as he assumed some form of key card was needed, but it turned out that he was incorrect as simply pushing the door caused it to open. If Adrian manages to get past the guards and through the door safely then the following paragraph is what occurs. Adrian moved quickly, but silently, through the door and began to slowly creep down the corridor until he was around a corner and out of viewing range of those last three guards. Now that he was safe he returned to his human form and exhaled a breath of relief glad that he managed to get past that first trial but now he was sure the guards in this entire building knew he was here. The Take Over Mage walked down the corridor he ended up in keeping as quiet as possible as he did so desiring greatly to not give himself away. Again Adrian's thoughts wondered as to what was inside the contents of the box to make the queen of all dragons want it. |

Adrian's sneaking attempt was, in fact, successful and he made his way down the corridor with relative ease. The guards didn't even realise that he was there once he had gone through, the door itself was equipped with a swing mechanism so it moved back into place without even a single click to show it had been opened in the first place. Such a nicely cooperative door. Down this new corridor was a long low-lit roof and a white tiled floor with lighting between the tiles too. The walls were pure black, almost oppressively so, but the corridor was straight and it slowly angled downwards, so this was probably the way to go. At the far end, after say three minutes of walking, the corridor split three ways, creating a four-way intersection including the path Adrian was currently on. Though which of the three would he pick?
However which would Adrian pick? |

Adrian was surprised that he had managed to sneak past those guards so successfully but he should probably not dwell on that fact for long given how he should probably keep moving. Adrian was grateful for the fact that the door he used closed shut behind without revealing his presence or leaving behind any evidence of his passing. It was a good thing no evidence of using that door had been left behind as yes while the security forces knew Adrian was loose in the building they didn't know his exact location and he was focused on keeping it that way; god knows what the owners of this building would do to Adrian if they caught him. Roughly three minutes of walking later Adrian was presented with three different choices of what direction he could advance in. To the left their was a passage that went downwards which did seem like the right way to go as people tended to keep vaults in the basement for some reason. The middle path lead upwards but beyond that Adrian knew little about what was awaiting him however common sense, and the fact media taught him that vaults tended to be kept in the basement, kept him from walking down the middle corridor. The path to the right led straight down which meant the Take Over Mage had to chose between the left and right passage, Left or right...difficult discussion to make. Ultimately Adrian decided to go down the right passage for no real reason other than A.He had to pick a passage. B.He could always come back and C. He was right handed. Adrian walked down the right passage and climbed down the ladder then continued walking. Eventually he would come to a small door which obstructed his passing. The Take Over Mage wanted to get through this door quietly but he didn't know how to pick locks so he was forced to break it. Unfortunately he couldn't use one of his dinosaur forms so Adrian was forced to just kick the door's and force it open that way. The lock snapped and the door opened up granting Adrian access. The Take Over Mage hoped he hadn't set off an alarm and quickly ran into the room then examined the vault to see if there was a way he could open it. |

As the man entered the vault it was quite clear this was a place that was not often used except only to store the most priceless and important of artifacts. Everything here was clearly top quality with enormously gilded chests or silver-inlaid pricess paintings scattered around. It was a larger room than first thought too, it seemed to spread out over a seemingly larger and larger area the more Adrian would look, as though the space were growing simply by him being there. There was no immediate sign of the chest Adrian was looking for, nothing that would dictate that- oh, nevermind, it was like five metres away and out in the open. If Adrian would approach he would see the chest shone darkly, almost as though the dark metal it was made from was illuminated from within. There was nothing that really explained it and if Adrian would study it he would see there was no real lip on the chest that denoted the lid... but Astrea had said she wanted what was inside right? And that was it? The chest was impossible to break however and if Adrian tried to lift it he'd get it maybe a half-foot off the ground before the weight would force him to drop it. Carrying it was out of the question and nothing would penetrate it, so there had to be a way in surely? Maybe the answer lay in one of the small grooves running along the top... Either way he would have to be quick, for far away in the vault a heavy metal door opened and voices could be heard coming in. There were plenty of places to hide but these two guards seemed quite weak, so maybe he could overcome them too? The choice was his. |

Adrian walked into the vault, it was the most likely location for the chest after all, and looking around their was a lot of valuable pieces of silver inlaid arts and glorious gilded chests but none of them were what Adrian was here for. Adrian was distracted by the amount of sheer loot in this room but soon any amazement at that was driven out of mind and out of sight when his eyes rested on the chest he had been searching for. This will probably jinx it but Adrian felt that this was rather easy; he had been expecting death laser traps and giant super powerful monstrous guards but so far their was nothing quite so video gamey and that was perfectly fine. A lack of death laser grids and giant monster guards was always appreciated. The Take Over Mage crouched next to the chest and looked it over. First he noticed the absence of a lip that denoted where it opened but that didn't mean the chest was unable to opened; it could be magical after all and have some sort of strange effect as a result. The Take Over Mage had been told that he was not to look in the chest and honestly he didn't want to defy the queen of all dragons which might be cowardly but being torn apart by a dragon was not on his agenda for today. However on the other hand the chest proved impossible to carry as he tried but was forced to drop it and that left him with two options: Option one was he try and carry out in one of his Take Over forms but that would make it difficult to break out of the building. Option two was he open it and risk Astrea's wrath. Whatever choice he made would have to wait as he heard the door of the vault open followed by foot steps. Other people were entering the vault and while Adrian was sure the security knew he was missing he didn't want to give away his position just yet; the element of surprise could be a powerful tool if wielded properly. For now Adrian ran behind a giant painting of a mansion and sat down behind it. Adrian was glad the painting was taller and wider than him as it made it very easy to hide behind. The Take Over Mage put Ozzy on the ground next to him and looked at her placing his finger over his lip to indicate she should be quiet which fortunately she understood. Adrian poked his head around the painting quickly and saw their was two guards and once he did that pulled his head back behind the painting. He felt confident in taking them out but if the guards had to report in then their absence would be noted which could draw more...dangerous opponents to the vault so for now Adrian was content to wait for them to leave. Once the guards left, if they did, Adrian would get up and take a good long look at the groves on top of the chest. He ran his finger along one of the groves placing his ear close to the chest listening. Adrian didn't know how to pick locks but he knew that more often than not you could here locks unlocking if you had your ear close to them and that was exactly what Adrian was doing: listening to see if running a finger along the grooves would effect the lock in any way, shape or form. Hopefully the chest would be that easy to unlock as he wanted to get the loot, get the hell out of here and get back to Astrea without being impaled or thrown in some sort of prison cell. |

It was an interesting idea, hiding behind a painting like that, but that assumed a few very odd things about a vault of this magnitude. After all if people went to this length for some strange oddities surely they had some actual security around right?
Firstly, the guards may not have left but they didn't really search a lot - just a few areas around the doorway then settled against the door and began to chat casually, not paying attention to the rest of the vault. It was merely unfortunate that they had a direct eyeline to the specific chest Adrian was after right now. Secondly the fact was that, yes someone had seen him, but that someone was also in hiding right now within the vault and was content to simply keep an eye on the other intruder without moving for now, instead noting every little detail about him... particularly about his small little bird... Finally, and Adrian was not aware of this like he was not aware of his watcher, but the thing within the chest that the Queen of Dragons sought was not without its own agenda. The chest itself was glowing that dark light for a reason after all and through it it was interfering with the camera and radio feeds that ran into this place. The guards knew that and so were not expected to report in for some time. Thus Adrian had an opportunity and unless he was content to sit and wait for hours and hours at a time he would have to risk something sooner or later. The only question was what. |
