"As-trea...ok, sorry..." To say Adrian felt like an idiot for getting her name wrong would be fairly accurate, but fortunately Astria just corrected him and moved on, which was good as one could probably tell Adrian wasn't exactly the most confident person in the entire world. Listening and thinking to and about what Astrea said next, Adrian did his best to work up what he hoped would be an acceptable answer. Adrian remained silent and decided to listen instead of talk, as he was still trying to form his reasons into a coherent answer for the Queen of all Dragons. It was fortunate that Adrian had decided to listen, as Astrea had answers and responses for the other things Adrian had said, ranging from her races view point on humans as to why she sent directions out to the rest of the country, all where very interesting indeed. The first of these responses Adrian homed in on was Astria and her races reasons for putting out those riddles, or as she called it "directions" and they did actually make a lot of sense. However, with one why known another soon spawned, and that was the question of "why would Astria want humans to find her?" It was true that she didn't hate humans, or so she claimed, but why did she want humans to find her? "Okay, so you want us to find you? Or is it for entertainment? Anyway, if you do want us to find you...why?" It may seem like Adrian was avoiding speaking about his true motivations, but as I said before he was simply buying time to form a coherent answer to them. Plus, the more Astrea talked the more questions the take over mage had, he just hoped she wouldn't get irritated with him. "This might come off as rude..but you seem a lot more...gentle and well...caring than I first though? If our race is so..ignorant...then well..why not help us? Or do you want us to grow out of our ignorance on our own terms?" Other people might have disagreed that the human race was ignorant, but honestly the take over mage had to agree with that, the majority of the people he had met had been rather..ignorant, of course he had also met people who weren't so ignorant. "I kind of have to agree with you on the matter of our ignorance...not that what I think matters, but I felt you might like to know that? Or maybe you won't? Ah whatever..." Shrugging his shoulders Adrian took another sip of his tea, before gently stroking Ozzy beneath her beak as she slept. Adrian had spent long enough trying to work out a decent answer to the pressing question of his motives, something that Astrea seemed to believe as she asked again what driving motive Adrian had. "Well, I'm a little confused.. Honestly I sought you out as I want a family... The only real family I ever had died many years ago and I've felt lonely ever since..." It was true that Adrian had friends and people he enjoyed spending time with, but for some reason that didn't make the take over mage feel any less alone, he just really hoped that answer would satisfy Astrea. Rubbing his wrists nervously Adrian was unsure if that answer was the right one, yet he had more things to say. "You see..my parents hate me, I got picked on and bullied a lot when I went to the knights academy, my parents tried to make me want to follow in the "family business" yet I had nothing of it, so they carted me off to my Grandfather, who died a few years ago. Hell, those "parents" of mine even tried to get me arrested" There was little anger in Adrian's voice, however if one could read his mind, they would know how far his hatred for his parents went. |

The laughter that the Queen of the Dragons gave at Adrian's puzzling out her motives and her personality for the directions was clear and tinkling, like the sound of crystals falling it resonated outwards and lifted the spirits of everyone around her - drawing a smile to the face of everyone who could hear it without exclusion. It was not a cruel laugh however, it was a nice and warm one that spoke of acceptance rather than mocking and it was pure, clear amusement rather than the cold harsh unrelenting sarcasm of one laughing at another. No, Astrea laughed with and alongside, not at someone and she waited until he was done before she spoke, the same smile playing about her lips as she sipped her tea and considered her answers to his queries and his finally answering her own question. "I have no compulsion to wish to be sought or to allow others to seek me," Astrea said with a small shake of her head as she lowered her cup to its saucer, "I share my knowledge with your kind for the same reason your kind elect people to a position to impart knowledge on the younger ones. I teach for the reason that lessons should not need repeating, because I saw the near-extinction of my race once and I will not see it attempted again. Your kind has grown weaker since that time, in part due to your heinous act resulting in the withdrawal of our magic to aid you in your lifetimes but that does not mean I wish to see my children hunted. Even the outcast deserves his life, something your kind took from mine a long time ago." These words were not gentle, her tone was not harsh however it was mellow and melancholic as though she missed things so deeply it was a part of her very being. "I do not know how to consider myself in the terms your race uses," she shrugged after a moment, "I am simply myself. Any perceptions you have laid upon me are those you have formed of your own accord - which is fine I suppose you can hardly help it." Then she broke off as she considered his request, wondering exactly what it was that she could give him to further his wants. "A family is an interesting thing," she said, taking another sip of her drink, "The blood of love is thicker than the water of the womb - that is the saying your race uses no? It is through bonds that you have a true family not through birth, so it is that bond you seek. What do you love most truly in your life now, Adrian? Your bird is it not?" She reached out and the small ostrich rose and moved to her hand, settling itself on her palm for a moment before a faintly crimson glow began to outline it, only barely. "What would you do if I could make him truly a brother to you?" she said slowly, visions rising in Adrian's mind -put there by Astrea of course but not that he could know that- of an adult Ozzy, of an Ozzy that could speak and think like any human, of an Ozzy who was his family. "What would you do for me, if I told you I could give you what you wanted?" |

When the queen dragon turned human began to laugh the take over wasn't exactly sure of how he should respond to that, should he laugh and smile himself? Or should he just remain silent and allow Astrea to finish her laughter? Laughter was never really a thing Adrian cared for, most of the time he was a little too shy to actually be the center of attention laughing entailed. Well at least in Adrian's experience laughter tend to draw attention to you but if everyone else was laughing then it didn't really matter. The take over mage just smiled a small smile and remained sipping his tea, allowing Astrea to say her piece. Having asked his own questions and attempted to answer Astreas' there was a was a pause, a clear cut moment of silence before she began to speak up. It was during this silence that Adrian decided to drink the last of his tea, swallowing it down before returning the cup to the sauce. Adrian had to admit that this little cafe was a nice place, it was charming and quaint with some very nice tea. It was when the Queen of Dragons talked and answered the first of Adrian's questions that he felt rather guilty. The take over mage knew little of the time period where humans tried to wipe out the dragons and he also had no part in it, yet he still bore his share of the guilt for that act. Still at least now Adrian had his answer, Astrea sought out humans to teach them so they wouldn't try to commit a genocide and kill the last remaining dragons of which Adrian doubted there were many of left. It might not matter little for what Adrian was going to say next yet he still felt guilty for the mistakes his race had made as a whole, even if he didn't exist at that time. "I am not sure if this is the right thing to say or not but I am... sorry for your race almost being wiped out. If all dragons are as interesting and nice as you I don't really see why anybody would try to kill you" Adrian's choice of words probably spoke of grand naivety but that was simply the way the take over mage was. The boy with his brown hair had never heard the phrase "blood of love is thicker than the water of the womb" but even then he was still able to understand its meaning pretty easily and it was very applicable to the situation of who Adrian considered his family. "Yes....you put it more elegantly than me but yes..." With a sigh Adrian spoke again, now feeling more than a little weird. He wasn't sure how the world would take him feeling closer to a baby bird than his own parents but it wasn't that uncommon for people to become attached to animals right? When Ozzy was picked up and moved by Astrea she would just stare at up the Queen Dragon, her head cocked slightly to the right. The red outline that appeared around Ozzy didn't do much to disturb the bird and neither did it worry Adrian, he felt that Astrea was trustworthy. And when the visions came Adrian felt warm, contented, happy even. He know knew what it was he wanted. "Yes...I think I would like that..but uh..Ozzy is female" With everything in life there was a price to pay and it seemed that for Astrea doing Adrian this kindness it would be no different. It mattered little what the queen of dragons asked Adrian to do, as he would be willing to do almost anything for this. "It would depend on what you ask of me" While that was not the most detailed answer in the entire world, it was the only one Adrian would be giving. Sure the take over mage could have spent time listing out what he would and wouldn't do but that would take a very long period of time and plus it probably wouldn't cover every possible situation. Better it would be for Astrea to just say what task she had in mind and for the take over mage to answer then, that would probably save the both of them a lot of time. Direct routes tended to be more time efficient, at least in this situation they where. As the visions had faded away Adrian reached out and picked Ozzy up, gently placing her back on top of his head. Call him paranoid but the brown hair boy was slightly worried Astrea would ask him something that he'd find morally wrong. |

"I am aware of your ostriches gender," Astrea said with a small movement of her hand, "The term 'brother' is one I translate from my own language into your own, it is imprecise but it fulfills the same term and it elicits the same... emotions I suppose. A sister is the kind of family one has a love/hate relationship in your lives, a being you can support and you are supported by but one who is often caustic and has deviousness in-built. Brother is a term more like..." she said a few words in a language that echoed in Adrian's mind, hauntingly familiar but at once impossible for him to mimic as they faded away as soon as he had heard them. "Of course that means nothing to you," Astrea said with a small chuckle, a musical tinkle as though someone ran their fingers down the perfectly-tuned keys of a piano, "But brotherhood is a term of inclusivity amongst your kind, a brotherhood are people who live together and who love each other in the most pure and deep of ways. It is not a sisterhood that is most commonly formed it is a brotherhood - that is what you will become. A family, a brotherhood of two, forged in bonds unbreakable and immutable. You and your Ozzy, tied together in life as one. That is what you seek." It was no question and Adrian's own statement was barely one as well but Astrea waved her hand palm-down over the tabletop and a vision appeared in the flat surface, a vision of a pair of men walking down the streets here in Trillium carrying a large black-metal chest between them. "That chest contains something I want," Astrea said simply, her eyes not looking down but staring at Adrian unblinkingly as the scene below played out, "All you have to do is bring me what's inside." The men walked quickly and easily into a large white building with heavy black stone doors guarded by men in black uniforms and took it inside. The scene shifted to follow them as they walked down several flights of steps and eventually deposited the chest in a large vault, sealing it shut behind them in a thick black-metal door. "Simple no?" Astrea asked calmly, awaiting any questions the boy might have. |

At first Adrian believed Astrea had gotten confused regarding Ozzy's gender but the take over mage was soon corrected on that. Adrian had kind of expected that due to differences in race he and Astrea might end up misunderstanding the other and that was exactly what had happened. The word Astrea had wanted to use, of her own language, could only be translated into brother in Adrian's and that was where the confusion lay. According to Astrea when she used the term brother it was... well Adrian could have sworn Astrea said something but strangely he couldn't remember what however what the Queen had said seemed familiar regardless of the fact Adrian forgot it. One thing Adrian did pick up on was how sisters were apparently devious and caustic by nature and naturally had love/hate relationships with brothers but the take over mage had never had a sibling so it was lost on him. "Alright I guess?" What Astrea said and the idea she explained made plenty of sense to Adrian and he understood it perfectly well but didn't really feel like responding to it beyond acknowledging that he understood. The take over mage watched Astrea as she waved her hand over the table, making an image appear upon the surface. This image showed two people walking down a street carrying a chest, a black metal one at that, which they soon carried through two heavy black stone doors guarded by people wearing black clothes; whoever these people were they sure did like the colour black didn't they? From Adrian's point of view the question he needed to ask is what was inside the box? Sure Astrea offered Adrian something he had wanted but he didn't want to risk giving the Queen Dragon something dangerous, she had attacked Trillium a few years ago after all. "Before I collect the contents of the box... what is inside it? And on that subject umm.. can I ask why you attacked Trillium a few years ago?" Hopefully Astrea wouldn't figure out that the take over mage was asking to put his own doubts at rest, it probably wouldn't go well if it became known he was still cautious of Astrea. Going back to the building the chest had been taken inside Adrian had been fortunate enough to know where it was on account of the fact he had seen it while walking through the city an hour earlier. The problem was the brown haired boy didn't really know much about the building, who uses it, what it was for or even why it was there yet clearly Astrea did. The thought that breaking into the problem, which was pretty much an obvious requirement at this point, worried Adrian but not for his own sake, he was more concerned about Ozzy to be honest. "If I am to do this for you...could you look after Ozzy until I return? I have a feeling the building's owners are dangerous people and I don't want her getting hurt..." Hopefully the Queen of all Dragons would say yes. |

[[OOC: Apologies for the delay, I should have more time to post at a much more rapid rate again now]] "No," Astrea said simply to Adrian's first question even as he asked it, her cup raised to her lips but paused for a moment as she spoke, "You may not ask what is in that chest, suffice to say that its contents will do you nor anyone you know or care for any harm in this or subsequent lifetimes." The other question was much more... interesting and she quirked her eyebrow for a split second as she drank the sweet tea in her cup -she drank lots of different kinds of tea, it depended on her mood at the time- before answering. It was not a simple thing after all and here he was asking for simplicity when the reality of it was far beyond human complexities as to be unfathomable. "My superficial spoken motives at the time have been fairly well documented by your species in the time interim since my re-emergence proper into your world," she said slowly as she pondered the query, "I was angry at my imprisonment and I felt that your kind was wasting the chances you had as the dominant active species on this planet. I had been caged in body -not soul- for a very long time after all, the number itself would mean little to you and the representation of it would mean even less but I lived amongst your kind in a number of bodies while I lay trapped. I still do actually." It was a throwaway comment but it spoke to something interesting about the Queen Dragon. She, her spirit rather or her mind, still inhabited a number of human bodies? No doubt this one was her true one but did that maybe mean that anyone Adrian might have ever met before was her in another form? Her in another life? It bore some thinking about maybe. "So I gave your kind the chance to defend itself from my accusation and you did so. Beyond that... it is information I am not willing to share as to why I reacted how I did, there are things that are as mysterious across genders as there are across race." Again, throwaway but fairly insightful. "You will need your bird however if you are to succeed," she said with a slight flick of her hair, "I can keep it here for a time if you wish but you will not succeed without her - of that I am certain." |

When Astrea said no and said the contents of the chest wouldn't do harm to anybody the take over mage found himself more suspicious than before hand, after all if someone said something wasn't dangerous then it was probably dangerous right? Hmm.. this was one of those situations were Adrian would need to place his trust in Astrea, after all they both had something to gain from the other. "Okay..I'll take your word for it then" Adrian nodded when he said that, having placed his trust in Astrea and hoping the contents of the chest really weren't dangerous. If the contents of the chest were dangerous and it turned out Adrian was handing Astrea a super weapon on a silver platter, he'd probably never forgive himself for it. So to put it simply Astrea attacked Trillium because she was angry at her imprisonment and how she believed humanity was wasting it's chances as the dominate species? Well that was fair enough but it wasn't what caught Adrian's attention. What the take over mage was truly interested in happened to be what Astrea said about living in numerous human bodies, which raised the possibility that perhaps she knew more about humanity than Adrian expected at first. Regardless of that the take over mage brushed his hair out of his face, very interested by the fact Astrea could separate mind from body and implant it into different vessels, it sounded like powerful magic which made sense as Astrea was the queen of dragons. There where many other questions Adrian wanted to ask but he felt it was time to get onto the task at hand and collect the chest for Astrea. Speaking of the task Adrian had been set Astrea said that Adrian would need Ozzy to complete his mission, which to him basically meant he had to put his closest friend in danger for his own desires. "So..I have to put my friend in danger for what I want...that...is a difficult choice to make, I'm not sure I could keep Ozzy safe..." Adrian's lack of confidence shined through with that, but so too did a much important issue. It was easy to risk your own life and put yourself in the line of danger, but for Adrian when it came to risking others he found it a difficult thing to do, and this situation had put the take over mage in a difficult spot. "I'm..not sure I can do it..but alright, jeez I hope I don't mess this up..." Gulping Adrian stood up and placed Ozzy back on top of his head, ensuring his pet beetle and spear was also secure. "Well I am ready to go.." And with that the take over mage walked out of the cafe, waving good bye to Astrea as he headed towards the building the chest was contained inside. It wasn't the longest walk in the world and soon Adrian arrived at the target building. |

It wasn't a very far walk for Adrian and as he stopped in front of the building that was to be his target, an enormous seven-storey tall white building with enormously thick black stone doors that seemed to be at least two metres high as well. The building was blocked in on the sides by other large office-like buildings, the one on the left with windows showing out and the same height while the one on the right was shorter, maybe 4 storeys and had only a single wide open glass front, showing people in cubicles. But it did have a rooftop access that Adrian would find if he went in... The doors themselves were blocked however, the men standing out front each had swords and they were garbed in black suits, their eyes protected by visors -not glasses- and all of them were bald. But they looked like they brooked no nonsense, they were checking everyone who attempted to enter -and Adrian wasn't the only one, there were three other young men coming in at about the same time- and the men scanned them all with a small metal wand before waving them into a large reception hall, blocked off by counters on all sides and people behind glass screens. If Adrian went in this way he'd be waved through and stopped at a counter by a pretty lady with a big smile who would ask what he was there for... |

Adrian had kind of been expecting the building's security forces to deny him entry to the building but no, he had managed to just walk into the lobby with a bird on his head, a spear on his back and a bug on his shoulder. Part of Adrian had been worried that the metal wound object was a sort of weapon detector but no, it wasn't, in fact the brown head youth didn't even know what it did. Despite the weapon he had the take over mage found himself being allowed into the building. Adrian walked into the lobby and headed towards what he could only describe as a reception desk manned by a pretty lady. Obviously this young lady would ask what Adrian wanted and the take over mage had an idea, but he dismissed it and came up with another excuse for being in the building. "Ah yes, my sister came in here a few days ago and she left her purse behind, so she asked me to come look for it. It's blue with purple flower and quite chunky" Making up that excuse for being here Adrian was aware that he was lying, something he preferred not to do, but for some reason the take over mage doubted the staff of this building would just hand over the chest Astrea want As Adrian didn't even have a sister there was no way the purse had been handed into lost property, which meant the receptionist's reaction would a no, unless of course by total coincidence a purse matching that description had in fact been dropped in. What was the point in this deception? Well had Adrian walked up the building and looked around then walked away it would have probably been suspicious right? This way the take over mage had been able to get inside the lobby, take a look around and then walk out out of the lobby without raising any suspicion. This little trip inside the building did have some value to it, as Adrian had learned that there was a roof top access the take over mage could use, however..how would Adrian get up their without raising suspicion? Well he couldn't fly up their as his only flying form was able to reach a maximum of ten meters.. not high enough to reach the roof. Once the receptionist allowed Adrian to leave the take over mage would do so. When he got outside the take over mage would walk around the building and look for something he could use to climb up to the roof. Edited by LunarCataphract, Nov 11 2014, 12:43 PM.

"Oh dear," the receptionist said as Adrian gave her the cock-and-bull story about his sister and her lost purse (though the woman was none the wiser that it was a lie) "That's a real shame, it's so easy to lose things in this building - you said she had a purse so that means she would have been on level 3 - Findings and Development?" Presumably Adrian would nod at this question -after all it's not like he knew any of the other areas of this building in any actual way besides the fact there was a large vault underground that he needed to get to, "OK well I'll put in a visitor's request for you, that'll mean you're restricted to the public access areas but that's better than nothing right?" She punched in a few buttons and a small plastic card popped out, the receptionist putting it into a little clip and attaching it to Adrian's shirt with a smile. There was an elevator nearby she gestured for him to head that way and as he stepped inside nobody else was in there, though there was a small black camera dome in one corner. Adrian thus had four floors of choice, for there were buttons G through to 4. G was obviously the ground floor they were on now, and the buttons for 1 and 4 didn't work meaning his true choice was limited (right now) to 2 and 3. If he chose 3 -as the receptionist had said- it would lead him to a large corridor with several locked doors on either side and then an open one at the end that lead to a large lounge area in pastel blue where several people were sitting around talking and there was another receptionist. But if he chose 2 it would take him to a small locked doorway, a doorway that would open if he jimmied the handle even a little bit and that in turn would open into a dark set of stairs leading downwards. It lead down not just one flight of floors but three, taking him below ground a little ways and to another large open area like the entrance had been, with thick black columns dotted around and a checkpoint at the far end of the room. If Adrian was careful he might be able to sneak through the shadows and avoid the attention of the three guards at the far end and the one patrolling in the center, he might even be able to get to the other side of the room and size up his chances of maybe attacking the guards or doing something to get their attention. There were only four of them after all... |
