With his Simple Shot spell cooling down, Brian dodged the other vines and branches that were coming at him. He could already feel a sense of fatigue from this battle. He thought that there would have been time for training with Toshiro and the the others before some great battle came at him. But this was the life he chose as a Fairy Tail wizard. But he promised himself that if he got out of this alive he would train harder and harder to get physically better and to make his magic better. He looked over at Cleia who was in her own type of dialogue with Desire. Seeing the two of them spat verbally back and forth reminded Brian of something that his wife had observed when he asked a very odd question. The question was about "why do women fight each other so much?" Aria's answer was: "We women love drama. So we create it between each other." Brian wasn't sure if she was telling the truth or if she was humoring him but after seeing the way that Cleia and Desire were going back and forth like this it made him wonder. Brian took his thoughts away from it when he saw other vines and branches coming at him. He would dodge them and they would scuff and even slightly tear at his gunslinger's robe. It annoyed him to no end that this was happening and that it was his only robe. It annoyed him more that his spell had the cooldown time it did. Looking up to where Desire was, he had an idea: Climb. And so Brian made the climb towards Desire. Battle OOC

As Desire attacked with her whip, the flying brat managed to snag her weapon with one of those rune-blade things. "Remind me to get a good dagger in the near future..." the pink-haired girl thought sourly, as Cleia yanked at her weapon. This brat was really beginning to become a bother. Rather than attempt a tug of war with the brat, which Desire was quite unwilling to do, because her physical strength was nothing to write home about, Desire leapt off the tree, as Cleia revealed a little surprise: she was older than she looked! "Older than me, and you're this short?! So what are you, a gnome?" the half-demon girl asked as she clenched the handle of her whip tightly, did a flip through the air, and attempted to bring her foot down on the black-haired Fairy Tail mage. Based on the fact that Desire's whip was not long enough to extend as far as the vines of the monster tree could, she was not afraid that she would not receive support from the tree. Oh, and part of the reason Desire had jumped off the tree was to avoid the climbing Brian. Although she didn't want to admit it, Brian's unwillingness to fight her had made her feel really rotten inside, and she found, much to her irritation, that she could not bring herself to blows with him, unless he performed an act of direct aggression. Cleia was a different matter. This one she hoped to vent her annoyance and frustration out on, provided she could. Anyway, it was long since she had been involved in a decent fight. "Take that, granny gnome!!!" Edited by Grond, Aug 6 2014, 11:12 PM.

Cleia gave Pinkie a slightly surprised look as Pinkie used Cleia's tug on the whip to perform a somersault. She was very sure that a downward attack would soon follow; after all, a person who was trained to an extent in hand to hand combat would be able to come to such a conclusion quite easily. If Pinkie was so quickly jumping into a physical struggle, it would be prudent to assume that the girl had some form of fighting prowess. Cleia made a note of that as she stepped to the side, even before Pinkie was close enough to land her hit, but rather than come up with an attack of her own, she grabbed the whip by its rope, just below the sting, and backed away further from the tree. The black scythe was dropped, which dissolved into dust, and then nothingness, while Cleia held the whip firmly with both hands. She gave Pinkie a look of slight irritation at her insult. So, Pinkie was probably trying to egg her into reacting rashly out of anger, was she? That, however, was not the source of her irritation. "Someone like you, Pinkie, who is not entirely 'human', should not be so quick to call me names. Don't try to act all coy, like you have no idea of what I'm talking about." Cleia continued pulling at the whip, intent on dragging Pinkie away from the attack range of the monster tree. Now, Pinkie had two options: she could let go of the whip and return to the tree, at which rate, her abilities for long range would be more limited... or Pinkie could come along and fight her without the tree's assistance. And well, the better girl would come out tops. It was very likely that Pinkie would wonder how Cleia was aware that she was not a pure-blooded human. Well, the low cut dress that Pinkie wore had given Cleia a glimpse of the rune on her chest. And though Cleia did not know all the details, she could tell a 'seal' when she saw one. A subtle smile replaced the grimace that was on her face before. "Come to think of it, perhaps you could say that I'm distantly related to a gnome, if ever they did marry humans. What I'd like to know is what you are related to. A horse, perhaps? Or a turkey? A lizard... or snake? Or worse?" Now, it wasn't Cleia's habit to egg someone on, but she could tell that Pinkie was fighting very conservatively. She was a mage, no doubt, but had refrained from showing any magic ability. The sooner Cleia could find out what kind of mage she was up against, the easier she might be able to concoct a strategy. Oh, and maybe she could turn the mind games back on Pinkie and cause her to act rashly. Maybe she would be able to capitalize on that. For her part, Cleia would rely on her physical prowess to combat Pinkie, provided Pinkie stayed to fight, and was still shy of using her magic. Battle

If it weren't for the fact that Desire's actions were destroying the city and that she was endangering innocent lives, the dialogue between Desire and Cleia would be amusing. He would have likened it to some kind of barroom catfight back at Fairy Tail. In his time, he had often seen girl fights and men standing at the edge cheering them on. It was usually because both girls would resort to clawing at each other, pulling each other's hair, grabbing wrists and slapping. Aria once asked Brian, "Why do men like to watch women fight like this?" Brian's only answer at the time was, "Because more often than not, the women involved in these fights don't know how to fight very well so it becomes almost comical." And that certainly was true of the verbal spat between Cleia and Desire. And Brian watched the two of them fight but while he was making his climb he saw Desire jump from the tree branch and make her attack towards Cleia. That was when Brian had let go of the tree branch he was on. Thankfully, he wasn't too high up and his landing was fairly soft given how he landed in water and allowed himself to come to a squat when he touched down. He looked over at Cleia and Desire and made his move towards them. Battle OOC

As it were, the gnome granny was just about as strong as Desire, if only a little bit stronger, yet Desire wasn't eager to bother wasting physical strength and stamina in a tug-of-war game, especially when she still had Brian to contend with, and didn't know whether he was suddenly going to turn all hostile when she was in an unguarded moment. Cleia had refused to come to blows with Desire, instead attempting to move away from the tree, and drag Desire with her, who of course, was unwilling to let go of her whip. But Desire had an advantage. Her monster tree. The pink-haired girl's eyes widened in surprise, as Cleia spoke of her not-entirely-human heritage. "How do you know of this?" the half-demon girl asked, her bright green eyes fixed on Cleia's face with a cold glare. It appeared the runt's idea was to get her away from the tree, but Cleia would have to do something less obvious, if she wanted that plan to succeed. Deciding that she was going to attempt the tug-of-war with Cleia, but with some help, Desire backed away, still with the whip in her hands, back into the vine-range of the monster tree, and suddenly, five vines shot out from the tree and wrapped themselves around the half-demon girl's waist, pulling her back towards itself. Brian was still attempting to make his way to the fighting girls, and a number of vines began snaking towards him, to dissuade him from getting too close to Desire. Desire could not, for the world, say why the runt chose to ask if she shared parentage with a horse. Of all the creatures to mention, especially even after Desire still remembered the madness of the creature she and Brian had met on that mystic island. "A horse?! Seriously? Are you as blind as you're short? What part of me looks like a horse to you, you myopic pint-sized oldie?" she asked, as more vines stationed themselves on either side of the pink-haired girl, in order to attempt to ward off any long range attacks that might be made. Desire was beginning to like the gnome less and less. |

Cleia eventually let go of the whip and backed away quickly, before Pinkie would have the chance to recoil the whip for another lash. It was obvious that Pinkie was not intent on moving beyond the safety of the tree's limbs to continue combat, and she had much figured out that Cleia was trying to get her away from it. This battle with the tree was becoming a stupid stalemate, although the Fairy Tail members were unfortunately on the losing side, because they had a responsibility to defend Magnolia from this threat, while Pinkie apparently had nothing to lose. Cleia noticed that Brian was trying to make his way to them, but the tree was not willing to let him do so. It was a pity she had no fire spells or abilities at her disposal, and at the moment, she could not think of anyone who had such a skill set. As she expected, Pinkie was surprised that she knew something about her heritage, and she was a little bit pleased to see all those smug mannerisms wiped off, even if for a moment. Oh, and of all the things to respond to, Pinkie seemed really miffed about being related to a horse. Cleia had no idea why this was so, for she had just chosen random animals with which to bug Pinkie. "How I'm privy to the information of your bloodline is quite unfortunately none of your business, until you're polite enough to ask about it." Cleia shook her head slightly at Pinkie's vituperation and said, "You should do something about that mouth of yours, Pinkie. If you think you can egg me into a rash reaction, though, you'll be disappointed. And come now, you know as well as I that there are ways to hide physiological features that may not appear entirely human, yes? You need to learn more about the world... and yourself." She had come up with a plan that might push this stalemate into a direct struggle for the mastery, which was more likely to yield results than this unnecessary banter. Giving Pinkie one last glance, she began to make her way to Brian. She couldn't risk speaking out loud, for Pinkie would easily take note of the idea and work against it. It would be easier for her, since she was beyond the tree's reach, but she would have to watch out for its roots. |

Coming closer, Brian could see that Cleia had managed to move Desire into a verbal stalemate. He saw her eye him while he was making his move. He could feel the power in his gun ready to use again and he was ready to take his shot. But he knew that he had to move in closer otherwise the effect would dissipate the further away he was. As it stood, he had to move in within zero to two meters in order for Desire to feel the effects of his spell as a very hard punch. At the distance of 2 to 5 meters the spell would feel like a slap. Finally, any shot above 5 and to the maximum of 20 meters, the effect would feel like a flick of the finger. At Brian's estimation he was roughly 4 meters away from Desire. Cleia just had to distract her a little longer and she did with the comment about Desire being "horse-faced". The gap was closed to 3 meters. Just one more and he could take the shot. He reached for his gun in that final meter towards Desire. The shot wouldn't be fatal. But if it did it's work it might knock her out. The magic gathered at the end of the gun while he was raising it to take aim at Desire. Finally, the magic circle erupted from the end of the barrel and he had her in his sights. He was careful to come at her from an angle so that way if she dodged it, the shot wouldn't hit Cleia. "Simple shot," Brian thought and he pulled the trigger. Battle OOC

As Desire had exchanged words with Cleia, she had allowed herself to be careless, or perhaps she didn't expect Brian to attack her, but she had allowed him to come that close, even when she had detected him in her psionic sensing field. Whatever the case, Cleia was distracting enough for Desire to turn and look into the black hole that was the mouth of Brian's gun. A look of surprise registered on her face, but she was too unguarded to do anything. The magic bullet hit her in the forehead, the force of the blast rocking her head violently as the projectile smacked her into unconsciousness. On the tree's part, once it 'sensed' the girl had been knocked out cold, with a surprising speed, the vines holding her recoiled, drawing her back and upwards, away from the Fairy Tail mages. The rest of the vines began whipping about with a crazed frenzy, most intent on whipping hell out of anyone foolish or unfortunate enough to be within the striking range of the trees. In the meantime, the branches that held Desire dropped her from the height to which she had been carried, right into the fountain at the bottom of the tree. A sudden sensation of cold water was enough to shake the half-demon child back to consciousness. Spluttering with surprise and unveiled rage, as she pulled herself out of the fountain, she gazed at the two mages with rage and hatred, although the look was more directed at Brian. "You are so going to wish you didn't do that!" she exclaimed as she rose to her feet, dripping wet, with her wavy hair plastered against her face and body. The atmosphere seemed to have changed from playful to very serious now, as the monster tree's vines arranged themselves in attack formation, apparently waiting for an order from the half-demon girl. |

Cleia was pleased that Brian was the kind of guy who swallowed his emotions and to do the right thing. Since Pinkie was being irrational, the best thing would be to subdue her first, then discussions could follow at a more progressive rate. His attack was point-blank, accurate and very effective. The blow was sufficient to knock Pinkie senseless, which was a very good turn in the battle. Unfortunately, the turn was very short lived. Of course, Cleia was very irritated when the tree acted on its own and drew Pinkie away from the two fairy Tail mages and out of their reach. Its vines were busy thrashing and whipping about, deterring them from coming close. They would not be able to cut seriously at their current strength, but the blows would be strong enough to keep people at bay. That tree was displaying an uncanny level of intelligence, and the more it did so, the more destroying it seemed to be a good idea. However, since direct attacks hadn't worked so far, it was time to resort to guile. Cleia quickly drew close to Brian and whispered in his ear: "I have a good idea on how we might be able to win this. You know, Pinkie said that she meant to steal something from the Guild. Why don't we let the tree snag us, so that for all intents and purposes, we will appear to be captured. Time is not on her side, so she would most likely leave us to the mercies of the tree, while she heads over to the Guild. When she does so, we break out and tail her. Then, it will be a two-on-one battle, without the intervention of that plant." By the time she had said this, she heard a splash, and Pinkie emerged from the fountain, looking like hell turned over. At least, she wasn't smirking and making all those annoying comments... but that also meant that if Pinkie was holding back, which she most likely was, she would do so no more. Cleia knew that her plan was very reckless, but she hoped that since it was almost certain that Pinkie didn't have much time on her side, she would want to complete her mission quickly. And that would increase the size of the success-window of that crazy plan. |

Brian felt a twinge of guilt at what he had done to Desire but she had left him with no choice in the matter. He had to take action and the shot had done just that. While she was knocked out for a moment, Cleia had approached Brian and had spoken her plan to him. It sounded reasonable and it was the best idea that the could come up with on the spot and in such a short space of time. Brian only nodded his agreement to the plan. His agreement came not a moment too soon when Desire had risen from where she had fallen. He could see the fury that had built up in her face at what he had done to her but Brian was ready and waiting for Desire to take action against him. Battle OOC
