"Finding old artifacts you say?" Inara perked right up. This was something she could chat about without worrying about making Tea feel uncomfortable! She didn't like that the poor girl had such a bad addiction to gambling, or that she seemed to think that much about gambling that a little bit of rain could ruin her day. Inara, of course, had no idea that she and Tea were thinking along nearly the exact same lines about one another. "You know, I heard there was a place just a little way from here where people could explore and maybe find such artifacts. That is if you're interested?" Inara was grasping at straws. She wanted very much to distract this nice young woman from her problems, and she couldn't think of a better way to do so than to get her out and about doing something. Their food came rather quickly, and while Inara had been moderately surprised by the request for sugar cubes, she started to understand almost immediately why it was Tea had asked for them. Perhaps her goat-like appearance meant she was..well, actually goat-like. Inara, having never been near a farm in her growing years but still a lover of animals had read widely on the subject of goats in general. She knew (from her studies that is, not experience) that they tended to be terribly stubborn. This made her grief over Tea's apparent addiction double-fold. She wondered how many people had tried to persuade the woman to let it go? She almost shook her head, but her first bite of food had her distracted. Pancakes were always a favorite of her's, and she had seldom had better in her life. The coffee complimented it perfectly, neither too strong nor too hot. She smiled as the waitress returned to check on them. "This is amazing. Thank you so much." Inara's eyes sparkled as she looked at her, letting the woman know the compliment was genuine. "Thank you so much miss. My father will be pleased you enjoy his cooking so much." With that she bustled away again, and Inara resumed eating until she was more than full. She was likely to burst! The coffee had warmed her up thoroughly though, and the pancakes (with butter and sugary syrup of course) had given her a renewed burst of energy. "So what would you like to do today Tea? If you don't mind us sticking together that is." |

"Pretty much! And it ain't just artifacts, neither." Tea paused, and smiled. Inara was clearly interested in the subject, and anything that wasn't gambling would be good to talk about. "Actually, just a month ago Lamia scale and these other folks were competing to find a city of gold--never saw the city myself, though--and I got my fur a little singed for my trouble." Tea said with a cheer. Despite the the incident having caused nothing but "singed fur" and broken pride, Tea's nostalgia got the better of her; she remembered the treasure related skirmish fondly, and wondered if perhaps there was a way her and Inara could explore, away from Trillium-- "You know, I heard there was a place just a little way from here where people could explore and maybe find such artifacts. That is if you're interested?" Inara asked, interrupting Tea's thoughts. She paused for a bit, processing what had been said. The second something like that came up, Inara latched on to it...I reckon she's trying to find an excuse to get away from here too! Overwhelmed with emotion, Tea nodded. Inara, ya'll is fighting back against addiction...And i'll be by your side, doin' errything I can to help ya! The food arrived just before Tea would have burst into tears over Inara's "bravery"; her focus immediately shifted to her meal instead, thus averting potential waterworks. Still, Tea remained on the subject. Nodding enthusiastically in agreement to Inara's compliment, Tea ruminated--both through idly chewing her meal and thinking on how her friend's statement could be worked to their mutual benefit. Inara spoke once more, as she finished her meal, asking Tea's opinion on their next activities. Tea, having just finished her meal, now rolling sugar cubes lazily in her mouth, responded immediately. "Ya'll said there was an old ruin or somesuch nearby, right?" Tea asked. "I reckon we should go there, provided its out of this here city! Just me and you, doin' somethin' fun and physical and not..err...in the city. Because." Tea's stuttering aside, she was starting to look forward to such an event for reasons other than "treating" inara's "addiction". |

Inara was pleased with how willing Tea was to go on the little adventure with her. It was apparent the woman was trying her best to stay away from what was obviously a trigger for her gambling problem. Inara smiled widely as she stuttered at the last of her little speech, and she thought it was cute how she was trying to make up reasons to leave without telling Inara why she couldn't stay. She smiled at her, all the while thinking, "Its okay! If you want to fight this, I will be right by your side. I swear." Inara made it a solemn vow in her own mind, to keep the woman away from her vice for at least this one day. She stood, stretching. Even though the waitress had said the food was free, she left money on the table. It seemed to her they were having enough problems without giving out free meals. Besides, she and Tea hadn't really done anything but flash their own guild tattoos to drive off the meanies. "All right, it seems the rain is finally clearing up. The ruins are this way." She looked at the little map that had been in her pocket, showing Tea where a thin line went down the little road outside and off past the windmill she had been staring at before. It seemed important to hurry, while the rain was getting soft enough to allow them passage. "See there's a little cave just over here. If we hurry, maybe we can make it there before the rain sets in again." She grabbed her cloak and made sure her sword belt was in place properly. "Ready when you are!" |

Tea nodded. Being a brawler, Tea had little equipment on her; this meant there was very little preparation required, and she was ready to leave as soon as she left a generous tip for the waitress. Straightening her shirt (taking a minute to attempt to, unsuccessfully, flatten her now frizzy fur) Tea followed Inara. "We're both ready, then!" she exclaimed. With that, the two exited the building. They walked down the city streets, taking in the sights and sounds around them--which, to Tea, seemed to be making both of them uncomfortable. Other than dodging the occasional puddle left over from the rain, Tea did her best to block out everything around her, save for herself and Inara. After all, there was something that had been troubling her. She had fully been intending to murder someone just a few minutes ago, and if it weren't for Inara interrupting her, then--I cant think like that, Tea thought, cause I know I just got a little too into things, like I always do. Tea nodded, as though to reassure herself. I already told myself I ain't gonna be violent no more, so...this is just an issue with losing focus. It ain't like before. Besides, there's someone with me now that needs more help than a sane gal' like me will ever need. I reckon Inara takes priority here. Fully convinced of her own reasoning, Tea pushed the thought away. After all, when there was a friend in need, even a friend who Tea had just met, there problems took priority. Tea's thoughts returned to the activity at hand, and the expectations of the "ruin crawling" to come. Depending on how old the ruins were, it was likely that there were intact chambers; in Tea's experience, Looters would avoid areas that were in good enough condition to still have rooms, something which always baffled her. Whenever someone wants to go searching a ruin for treasure, they always seem in pretty good condition what with all the little puzzles and traps still functioning, almost never looted--at least, that's what Ma' always said. Strange, but I reckon it's one of those little things that just makes life more fun she thought, smiling. It would probably be little more than a few crumbling pillars and part of an old statue, but Tea prepared for the possibility of it being a more "intact" ruin anyways...and if it seemed there would be a situation that demanded taking a risk for a semi-random outcome, Tea planned to leap ahead and handle it herself--afterall, she wanted to get Inara away from games of chance for a time. Inara hadn't actually been in many sets of ruins thus far. She knew people went treasure hunting in places like Tessera and Magnolia fairly often. She herself had never been one to partake though. She thought that this had come at a most opportune time, since it not only offered a distraction from the still slightly overcast day, but from poor Tea's gambling problem. Inara was too polite to ask her friend about her addiction, or more than one misunderstanding might have been cleared up, and the adventure might have ended right there in laughter. As it was, she pressed onward. Determined to make sure that her friend could get away from something that was really bothering her. She pulled out the map ever so often, glancing down at it as they moved away from the little cafe where they had chanced to meet. She could see that this was going to be an interesting bit of ruins by the way the map displayed them. She had no issues sharing with Tea, so she fell into step with her as they walked, showing her the map. Her finger traced a line. "We are just here. If we keep heading south, we'll be there in next to no time. I think we're fairly well set to just walk straight into this area. The map doesn't show it all, but it certainly shows the front most cavern fairly well." The map depicted a rather large opening, and behind it the top of the cave was cut off for artistic rendering purposes. It seemed there was a large circular cavern, and within that there was a depiction of some sort of altar. Inara looked at it sideways. "I'm not all that sure what we're going to be looking for in here, but its just noted as a treasure." She smiled. Hopefully this would actually be worth their while. It actually didn't take them long to reach what seemed to be the obvious opening on the outskirts of town. It was a dark hole in the side of a rather large rock hill, and Inara investigated it rather quickly. The markings around the opening lined up with the odd ones displayed on the bottom of her map. She took a few moments and looked inside. It seemed it was a rather steep descent into the cavern. She turned to look at Tea. "I don't suppose you like climbing do you?" |

Tea had noticed it earlier--though she'd been a bit distracted by thugs, interventions, and food in that order--but now it was very clear to her that there was something naturally warm and appealing about Inara. The girl was so very gentle, in addition to being confident and kind; there was something instinctively appealing about these traits. Tea's protectiveness only grew at these revelations, and the goat was now determined to make this activity as wonderful as possible. With luck, one addiction would be replaced with another--one of love for the outdoors and the limitless wonders within them. At no point did Tea ever consider that she might have been projecting her own passions on her companion, and she never had the time to; before she knew it, they'd arrived at their destination. Come to think of it, Tea thought, It's a little weird that Inara had a map of this here ruin--especially if she came to trillium to gamble. Tea shook her head, dismissing this bit of insight almost as soon as it arrived; Tea wouldn't let anything get in the way of her stubborn conviction--not even very sane doubt. Had Tea considered it further, she'd have surely been curious enough to ask, thus very likely clearing up the confusion right then and there; however, Tea'd already gotten invested enough in her goals where any thoughts that contradicted their validity were simply brushed away. Tea stood back as Inara confirmed the identity of the cavern. After a few moments, her companion spoke. "I don't suppose you like climbing, do you?" Inara asked. Tea's eyes lit up immediately...and she resolved to start her plan of sharing passions with this activity. "As a matter o' fact, Climbing is one of my favorite activities!" Tea announced. She immediately took Inara by the arm, leading her to the edge. "I am willing to teach--free o' charge, I reckon" Tea chuckled, and looked Inara ove; Tea didn't show it, but she began to actually doubt how well her plan would work as soon as she noticed how petite Inara seemed to be. Could a girl this thin really climb? Tea decided to chance it, and descended just a little bit before pausing. She waited, with the expectation that Inara would follow--thereby allowing Tea to correct any mistakes she made as well as keep a close eye on her. Naturally, Tea hadn't thought to check Inara's physique very thoroughly--or there would have surely been no doubt in her mind as to her companion's ability. |

Inara smiled at the woman who had so many goat like traits. She wasn't experienced at climbing, that much was true, but she tended to think that most of her adventures were new challenges to be conquered instead of things she simply couldn't do. She took pride in such things. And she was happy to have Tea along. It seemed the woman really knew what she was talking about when she spoke of climbing. That made Inara smile, nearly as much as the woman asking her if she thought she could do it. "I really like free lessons!" She gave a confident smile, and a sharp nod as Tea pulled her toward the ledge leading down. It was a rather dark tunnel, made more so by the way the sky was shading the sun. She wondered if perhaps she might be able to find foot holds? But the soil seemed loose, as was demonstrated when then neared the edge and more than a few pebbles rolled loose. She was still proud that she had hit on one of Tea's favorite things, and didn't think about how hard this might end up being. Getting down would likely get easy, but it never occurred to Inara to think of how they would get back up. Instead she turned to Tea and gave a smile. "I'm ready for my lesson, when you're ready to show me that is." She was too much of an optimist sometimes, but it never occurred to her to look on the less bright side. Besides, the happy smile that moved over Tea's face when Inara mentioned climbing, coupled with the twinkle in her eye when she spoke of teaching her were more than enough to convince her this was the best plan. |

The loose pebbles hadn't bothered Tea; not only was she far from a novice, but her mountain-goat style physiology assisted her descent in a variety of subtle ways. Thus, Tea faced no difficulty with her descent. Inara seemed quite a bit more competent than Tea had expected as well; while her posture needed correction at several points, her physical ability was a fair bit better than what her appearance suggested. The descent was very fast, and before Tea knew it they'd reached the bottom of the chasm. "...ANd ya'll are going to want to jump down, since yer close, but you should probably just descend the rest of the way" Tea advised. Comfortably leaning on the walls of the pit, just a few feet from the floor, Tea smiled; she was having so much fun during the descent she'd forgotten entirely about 'Inara's' grim condition, and her thoughts had turned to curiosity and speculation once more. I reckon this girl used her magic to get down so easily Tea theorized, so she probably uses physical magic, like me. Had this been the case, Tea wouldn't have been particularly upset; Tea'd learned her Physique Magic in an attempt to make maximum use of her own natural traits, and she never would have faulted anyone else for doing the same. Tea momentarily pondered showing off her magic, and decided against it; Inara's petite appearance was still fresh on Tea's mind, and despite the girl's bravery in the cafe, Tea was convinced physique magic would scare her new, supposedly delicate companion. With a practiced technique, Tea made her way to the cavern floor in a manner that resembled casual walking, stepping between obvious protrusions as though they were stairs. when the reached the chasm's bottom, Tea attempted to take note of her surroundings, finding them too dark to make out clearly. "Ya'll wouldn't hapen to have a light or something, would ya?" Tea asked. |

Inara steadfastly followed her new friend's advice. She did her best to keep up, but the woman was more sure footed than Inara had anticipated, and she grinned as she realized that Tea was pretty much built for this. She hadn't played much attention before, but suddenly some of the woman's features made her think of a goat for whatever reason. She descended all the way to the bottom, her hands and feet sure, if slower than those of her companion. It didn't take either of them long to make it to the floor of this initial cavern, and when she did she she grinned. "I hope I didn't do too poorly. And yes, I do actually have just that." Reaching into a pocket on her cloak, Inara brought out two lacrima powered torches, handing one to her companion and clicking on her own. These things were handy, and past adventures had taught her that bringing in a light source was never a bad plan. In front of them, several passages ways went forward. She had been only vaguely briefed on this particular cave system, but she remembered being told that straight or right was always the best decision. After her recent jaunt under ground with another friend, she though that being a bit more prepared had been in order. "All right, if my information is correct, we can go straight. Shouldn't be much of a problem, but watch out for traps anyway. I hear most ruins are littered with them." |
