Dusk was falling on the lavender forest, the lighting seeming to turn the air purple in some places. It gave the air a mystical feeling, as if anything was possible. As he stood beneath the shadows of the lavender trees inside the yard of the House of Fire and Ice, he could help but feel his blood thrum in his veins. The house was beautiful and old, covered in ivy. He’d scaled the ivy clad walls to enter the grounds, and for now he waited. He’d first learned of the hideaway house as he walked through town earlier that day. He’d been in to check on how the store was doing, you know. Put in an appearance and make sure his employees were happy. Happy employees worked harder. On the way back he’d stopped by an antique store, just to look around and see if he wanted anything. It was then that he’d noticed the shadow. She had been dark and quiet, though the cheerful shopkeeper has managed to keep a low conversation with her going. The girl was holding an exquisite piece, probably the nicest thing in the shop. A small vase the size of a cantaloupe was all it was, but it was pure white marble veined with green jade, and it was lovely. She had explained softly that she’d just bought a new house, and thought it would go perfectly in one of the rooms. After some ‘haggling’ over the price, which was really the girl just being reasonable and informed, she had paid and walked away with the beautiful vase… and he had followed her to the outskirts of town to the gate she entered. Having memorized her voice, he decided to come back later that night, and thus had gone back to his day’s business. When night had fallen, he’d returned to the property to scout, and then wait for the lights to turn off. The dark girl had left earlier, going where he didn’t know or care. By the time she got back, he’d be long gone. He practiced her voice a bit just to be sure he had it down just in case someone else was home, but the place looked deserted. Strolling casually to the front door, he took the key from his neck, inserting it into the lock and exerting his magic. He felt the key change in his hand, and then the lock clicked. He opened the door, stepping quietly inside and shutting the door silently as he could behind him, though the slow creak gave him the willies. The house was still mostly empty, with a few boxes here and there. It looked like someone who had very little had moved into the giant space. But there were little touches here and there that said someone was trying to make it more like a home through slow accumulation. Now, the only question was… where was that vase? Slowly, he crept further into the dark and silent house, looking for his prize. |

Melody had laid down quite early for her, staring at the huge ceiling of her room in relative disbelief. The house she and Jayden had purchased together was too big for them by far, but they had both loved the gardens, and the privacy it offered without them having to leave the city of Poinsettia proper. It was as good a hiding place, in other words, as they could find for Jayden without it being a cave in the mountains somewhere. They had already painted all the rooms in the house, and here and there found spaces in which to make it their own. Bedrooms had been first of course, but then they had branched out into other areas of the house. Adding a couch here, a few dishes there. Jayden had come in this afternoon with a vase. A present for Mel she said, which now adorned the table by her bed. She was exhausted. But she chuckled slightly to herself as she reclined on the feather mattress and though of the massive amount of money they still respectively had to spend, just for making the house prettier. She would have to remember to thank that old jerk of a librarian, if she ever got close to him again. Jayden had left earlier in the day. She was on some jaunt about buying things in Magnolia, and supporting a candidate for the ruling parties. Mel didn't go in for politics much herself, though she thought maybe she would at a later date, when she was more informed. Til then, she was happy to listen to the random creaks and groans of the huge house as it settled and came back to life. Except for that creak. She sat up suddenly, hearing the front door open and close quite audibly in the near empty house. Besides it had a creepy sound the hinges made when used that was easily recognizable. She thought for a confused moment that perhaps Jayden had come back early. But no...She would have already been bounding up the stairs in that case, exclaiming about her day. She put her feet carefully on the floor, reaching for her sword which was slung by its belt on the railing at the end of her bed. She loosened it from the scabbard quietly and made her way to the landing at the top of the stairs. Since she wasn't an idiot, she didn't bother calling out. And though this had been her home for a short time, she knew perfectly well which stairs made noise and which ones didn't. She moved quietly, her eyes straining against the darkness. She could see a shadowy figure moving this way and that, though she couldn't be sure what they were doing. She did know for certain that it wasn't Jayden though, or she never would have been able to spot her. Besides which this person was too tall by half. Instead of trying to sneak up on him, not knowing if he was armed, she stepped carefully toward the wall and flipped a switch. The figure stilled immediately. "Welcome to my home. Something I can help you find?" She said it with a quiet but stern edge to her voice. Less than a week here and it was already being invaded. Jayden would have a cow. |

It was times like this when Zen was grateful he didn’t actually look like a robber. Also that he hadn’t been sure where he’d spend the night, so he had his small travel bag that he had planned on using to hide the vase as well. Well dressed, but looking like a casual wanderer. He smiled beautifully at Melody, saying gratefully, “Oh good, you must be Jayden’s roommate! I was hoping you might still be awake. I couldn’t find the light switch!” Smiling charmingly, Zentyr walked over to Melody, holding out his hand as he introduced himself. “I’m Zen. I ran into Jayden earlier today at an antique store. We got to talking about vases, and I helped her pick out one for her roommate. I’m guessing that’s you.” He was studying Melody, but his manner was simply curious and completely natural. She was pretty and he was one of the greatest bs’ers of time. Seeming to realize he hadn’t explained his presence, he smiled charmingly and said cheerfully, “I ran into her again as she was leaving, and she said that you ladies had a spare room I could crash in for the night while she was in Magnolia. Could you point me in the right direction?” Okay, so it was a load of BS. But she didn’t know that, and he’d pulled the lies of out thin air seamlessly. By the time she figured it out, he’d be long gone. Most likely with some of their things. He had to admit though, she’d done extremely well by sneaking up on him. This was the first time anyone had truly caught him without him being able to send them back to sleep. If she hadn’t flipped on the lights and seen him, he’d probably have mimicked her voice. Then again, maybe that would have been wrong anyway. He didn’t know. All he could do was go with his gut. Perhaps he could turn this into a different opportunity… Glancing out the window, he smiled and said cheerfully, “Though I have to admit, your house is amazing. Jayden was right when she said I’d like the flowers. I think I’ll probably go out and shoot some photos after I put my things down, if that’s quite all right with you. I don’t want to intrude.” He smiled winningly. It was so believable, it could be almost be true. And the Master of Lies goes to Zen! |

He was cute, she would give him that. It kind of startled her when he turned around. She squinted her eyes at him, still wholly suspicious. He didn't look like a thief, but that didn't mean he wasn't one. As he approached, apparently unarmed, she raised her sword slight, making sure the tip was pointed at something important. She didn't know much about Jayden, but she knew she was a terribly private person, not given to talking to strangers. Still, she might not believe his lies, but she could certainly play along with the best of them. So she dropped her sword tip when he said that Jayden had invited him to stay in an extra room, and gave a lovely smile of her own. "Oh yes of course, right this way. I apologize for being so ... abrupt." She glanced sheepishly at her sword, and suddenly dropped it. Best if he didn't know she was aware of how to use it. "It's an old family heirloom, and I was so surprised when there was someone down here I thought I could...you know scare them a bit. Silly of me I know." She gave a girlish giggle to put him at ease. Hopefully he didn't see the hidden mirth in her eyes. He obviously didn't know who he was dealing with, and that was ok. She didn't want him to know. At least, not yet... "Oh please, come right this way. I'm sure we've an extra bed around here somewhere." She walked quickly through the house, still admiring the beauty of the place. She led him to a disused room on the first floor, furnished with a simple chest and a small but comfy and clean bed. Beside the bed was a vase very much like the one which now decorated her bedside table. Though this one was a fake, and what had actually prompted Jayden to buy the more expensive one. Melody had loved it, and her friend had gotten her a more expensive piece out of love. Of course she didn't know that was what he was after, but she certainly didn't trust him, not as far as she could throw him. "I hope this room will suffice? And I can put a kettle on if you like. If she offered you a room, you must be terribly tired. And of some food if you like." When he mentioned flowers she gave another of her patented smiles. I'm so sweet and naive..it said. Feel free to try and screw me over. She of course had painted this on. It was her experience, as a gypsy, which helped her acting skills so. She had had many a turn playing the interested buyer at her mother's potion cart, just to get sells started. Or playing the ailing patient, or...well whatever was called for really. I can turn the lights on in the garden if you'd like, let you have a look around?" She moved out of the room, attempting to give him space, and turned on the switch close to the doors in the back. A myriad of soft white lights danced through it, showing off roses, irises, creeper and climbers, all freshly scented and beautiful. The highlight though, was the rather large Lavender tree dead center of the yard, which all the lighting illuminated, but none of them touched. "We are terribly proud of it." This at least should be enough to keep him guessing. And she wanted that. She didn't want him to know who was the cat, and who was the mouse, until the end of the game. So she hid the smile that curved her full lips, and said nothing while she waited. |

As good as Zen was… he knew façade when he saw it, mostly because he’d spent so long perfecting it in himself. This girl was obviously a good swordsman, and the bit about it being an heirloom a complete and utter lie. When he left, he was going to make sure not to do it at sword point. While he was confident in his own skills, he rather preferred to avoid conflict when possible. He was a gentleman, a thief in the night, and she was an attractive woman. If he couldn’t plunder the house, perhaps there were other things… “Don’t worry about it. Anyone would have been startled. I’m sorry for worrying you.” Still, the play went on, though it was probable both players knew it as false by now. Obviously, he had misjudged something. She was being extra sweet, but he had noticed that gleam in her eyes. He debated the merits of actually staying the night here. It would save him hotel fees, but with the possibility of being stuck in the ribs with a sword later in the night. He followed her back to the room, noting the simple furnishings. The house was… beautiful, but still rather empty. While he wanted that vase… he sighed. He wouldn’t be stealing from these women. The girl Jayden had seemed shy but polite, and this one was clever. He liked them better than most people already. Smiling at her offer, he put his bag down, spending a moment to take his camera out. There was a vase in his ‘room’ very similar to the one Jayden had bought today, but he was gentleman, a thief, and connoisseur of art. He knew cheap but pretty fakes when he saw them, though others wouldn’t notice. “I’m not that tired, I was just having a bit of trouble finding a place that still had rooms available.” That part was actually true. The only rooms left had been exorbitantly priced, and he hated spending money he didn’t have to. “Thank you for the offer of tea, but I ate recently. I will take you up on the lights though.” He followed her to the door of the garden, watching as she flipped the switch and a magical light seemed to glow on the flowers. Thieving was forgotten completely. He smiled without realizing it, looking at the beauty before him. His fingers twitched on his very expensive camera, and he stepped past her into the lit night, murmuring softly, “It’s beautiful… if you’ll excuse me…” He seemed lost in his own world as he moved with purpose through the garden, careful not to tread on anything he shouldn’t. His camera came up, and he adjusted the focus, taking photos from many different angles. He spent a particular amount of time on the perfectly lit lavender tree. His favorite was the shot of the branches gently lit, but still managing to get the starry night sky and moon behind it. It was going to be a beautiful piece. He wasn’t a famous photographer and designer for nothing! He had been standing and kneeling without any regard to his very fine clothes, all for the sake of getting perfect shots. This garden was absolutely fantastic… a photographer’s paradise. Glancing back at the house and Melody inside the door, he was amazed at how a few lights could make it seemingly glow from the inside, and he snapped a quick shot of that too. It looked beautifully romantic. Slowly making his way back to her, he smiled a bit sheepishly, saying quietly, “Thank you. This place is rather amazing.” It was said with complete honesty. They had found a true gem in this house. Even if the inside wasn’t finished, they were making beautiful inroads to match the beautiful women. It was a shame that once it was revealed for sure he hadn’t been invited, he’d probably never be allowed back. |

She knew he was actually being honest when he said that there were few rooms available in the city. And she was surprised by how quickly he took to the garden. He snapped at least forty pictures with that fancy camera of his, and he ended up looking like he would bring in half the garden with him when came back. He was covered in leaves and twigs and soil. She was surprised too by how sincere his thank you was when he returned. She reached up automatically to pull a leaf from his hair and smiled. This time she was being genuine as well, and it showed in her dark eyes, giving them a warmth they had lacked before. He might be a thief, she decided, but he was a thief with good taste. "If you'll just come in here I will show you where the shower is, and we can put those things in the wash I think you may have ruined them. Zen was it? Welcome to our home." She didn't tell him she knew he was only there to steal, or that she didn't trust him very far. She wanted him to feel welcomed somewhere, for perhaps the only time in his life. She didn't know his story, but she knew one didn't generally get into thievery for a living when one had a happy story. She put the kettle on in the kitchen, and found a few tea bags in the cupboard. She pulled down two earthenware cups and set them aside. "Do you take milk or honey in your tea?" She was at her natural best. She was good at doing these things, playing hostess and being nice to strangers. Her natural amount of charm was easy to see. Before long the kettle began to boil, and she was even kind enough to put the sword below the island in the kitchen. Out of sight if not quite out of mind. She might be in a welcoming mood, but she wasn't dumb. A thief usually weapons of his own, if not readily visible. She slammed her palm into her forehead. "I completely forgot to show you where the bathroom is. So sorry." She turned quickly and walked down the hall, the same on that held his "room" and stopped just the other side. Flicking on the light, she pointed. "Its just here. Feel free to shower, and I can reheat your tea later. I'm not very tired at the moment, if you'd like to have a chat when you're done. Or maybe I could show you around the house." Her smile was still just as warm as it had been. She was more than willing to forget he was a thief, until he decided to actually steal something. |

Zen was a bit surprised when she reached up and knocked a leaf out of his hair, but smiled. However, when she pointed out that he may have ruined his clothes, he glanced at them, surprised to find himself covered in garden. He blinked, shaking his head ruefully. “Alexa is going to kill me for ruining her creations.” Granted, they were actually his own designs, but Alexa had made them for him personally. She never let any of the staff make his clothes, because her work was always the most superior and she’d never let her brother wear anything she considered inferior. He shucked off his dirty shoes, carrying them so he didn’t track dirt all over their new house as he followed her into the kitchen, making sure he didn’t accidentally brush against anything. He simply watched her putter around the kitchen, easy and charming. She was beautiful, and he couldn’t help himself. He raised his camera, snapping a shot of her while she wasn’t paying attention. She looked beautifully natural, and he was curious to know more about this girl who he was fairly sure knew he was a thief, but was still welcoming him and treating him with courtesy. He laughed softly as she said she forgot to show him to the bathrooms. He smiled and shook his head. “Don’t worry about it. Thank you. I’ll be clean in a few minutes, and we can talk then. Oh… and I take honey in my tea.” He smiled at her, then stopped in his room to grab his spare pair of pants. He didn’t actually have an extra shirt… they wrinkled so easily, so he hadn’t bothered. Oh well. Stopping to put his camera down, he brought out the printer for it, setting it to spit out polaroids of the photos he’d taken tonight. Into the bathroom he went, folding his clothes neatly as he took them off out of habit before taking a brief but refreshing shower. He used what looked like a guest towel to dry his hair a bit, but left it mostly wet in a semi-roguish looking way. Slipping on his spare pair of pants, he left his highly sculpted chest and feet bare as he returned to his room. Grabbing the photos that were done printing, he carefully put away his camera, grabbed the dirty clothes and held them lightly and returned to the kitchen. Setting the clothes down on the table in a way that none of the dirty parts actually touched it, he set the pictures down where she would be able to look through them and smiled at her. “Thanks for letting me use the shower. You said you have somewhere I could wash these?” Pointing to the photos, he smiled and said simply, “Also, I thought you might like to see some of the photos I took.” He looked sexy and alluring in his half-clothed glory as he smiled and asked one last thing. “I never actually did catch your name, and much as I could come up with plenty of fitting nicknames…” He smiled playfully. “I’d love to know what your name actually is.” So… he might’ve just switched into charming seduction mode. He couldn’t help it… she intrigued him! Edited by Jay, Jun 29 2014, 04:31 AM.

She wasn't paying much attention, just fixing up the cups of tea. She put a vast amount of honey in his cup, the same as she did her's. It was probably actually horrendously sweet, but she loved it that way. It never really occurred to her that moderation might be more nice. She turned and gave him a smile, keeping her eyes away from his naked torso with effort, though his face was much better. Yes, for a thief, he was terribly cute. She gave a small sigh, knowing full well that she could never tie herself to someone who made his living in deception. But she would certainly like having him around for the day. A little eye candy never hurt anyone right? She set the cups down on the island of the kitchen, not bothering to hunt for a chair. She was suddenly aware that she was in her pajamas, and probably not half as put together as he was. Oh well. She tucked her hair behind her ears and looked at the proffered photographs. "Yes, there's a laundry room just the other side of the kitchen here. It may not be up to the standards for the fabrics you wear, but it should do well...e...enough..." She had started with a sort of teasing tone, but now as she flipped through the photos and saw herself as well as her garden through the eyes of his camera she was somewhat stunned. She looked sweet and pretty, even in her night clothes, and the garden looked magnificent. He had managed to make everything the took a photo of look more lovely than she had ever seen it, and it had stunned her, causing her voice to taper off slightly as she flipped through the photographs more and more slowly, taking in the detail. There was nothing that he hadn't made more beautiful with his camera lense. Suddenly remembering she was in the kitchen, she cleared her throat and put the photos down. She was blushing faintly, which was not a mean feat by any measure, so she just offered a smile and sipped her tea. "Those are beautiful. You have a real talent you know. I've never seen my garden look so lovely." She gave him a smile and neglected to add the or me that had popped into her brain. When he started to tease she gave a soft laugh. He really thought he was putting the charm on her, and she could tell it. So he knew he was cute huh? That was okay. She could be cute too. "Melody Akari, gypsy extrodinare. Nice to make your acquaintance properly." She gave her usual mock bow to go with her introduction. She was beginning to think a life on the stage wouldn't be horrible for her. She took another sip of her tea and gave a slow smile, dark eyes shining slightly. "So who is Alexa, if I might be so bold?" She had no doubt mention of another woman he had spoken of would likely take the wind out of his sails. She arched an eyebrow at him, and took a seat at the kitchen table, one bare foo swinging in the air as she crossed her legs. How was she to know the "other woman" she had mentioned was his sister? |

He couldn’t help but grin as she checked him out of the corner of her eye, though seeming to attempt not to. It was as he watched her look at the photographs that he truly smiled. He loved it when someone really and truly appreciated his art. He wished he hadn’t actually left the camera in his room, for her blush was absolutely adorable! He reached for the cup of tea she had set out for him, raising it to his lips and taking a sip… It was sweet! Much sweeter than he had anticipated, but that just made him grin. If Alexa didn’t dump sugar in her tea every day, he might have been more ill prepared, but as it was he was able to enjoy it, though it was still sweeter than he’d have made it for himself. He set it down again as she introduced herself, and he took a step closer. Catching her hand, he bent over it, lips lightly grazing it in a kiss before he straightened, though did not let go. “Miss Melody Akari, it is a pleasure to have met you. Allow me to properly introduce myself. My name is Zentyr Vayiiel, fashion designer and photographer.” He grinned flirtatiously at her, still maintaining a very light grip on her hand that she would be able to break at any time. When she asked about Alexa, he grinned more brightly for a moment, as he teased, “Why, jealous?” He laughed, then shook his head and his smile turned softer, more reflective. “Alexa is… my princess. My angel… the one person on this world for whom I would do anything…” his voice trailed off and he seemed to return to the here and now. With a wicked glint in his eye, he finished. “She’s also my business partner and my most beloved… baby sister.” The grin faded, though he still smiled down at her, probably a little too close for comfort as he hadn’t moved away and still held her hand lightly. He looked deeply into Melody’s eyes, and for a moment his voice was completely serious. “However, this façade suits neither one of us. You are not so innocent as you would like me to think, and I came here with less than honorable intentions. Forgive me, and believe me when I say I have found something far more precious than that which I came looking for. Please believe me when I say I have no ill intentions towards you, and I shall steal nothing from you… save perhaps this.” He leaned in with a smile, kissed her gently on the cheek and withdrew, letting go of her hand. He turned to pick up his clothes, smiling at her and said, “I’ll be back in a moment, just want to pop this into the laundry.” He was giving her space and time to think. He’d given her his real name now, so she could actually track him down if she so desired. He moved into the laundry room, starting up the washer and carefully putting his soiled clothes in. It was the first time he’d been so honest about his intentions with anyone save Alexa. He was just hoping it didn’t come back to bite him in the butt. After all, he didn’t even have a clean shirt to wear! |

Melody was more than a little surprised when he moved in closer. She laughed when he asked if she were jealous. As if! But when he finally finished up his explanation, she gave a soft smile. She missed her family, rowdy brothers included. "Its very nice to actually properly meet you as well Zentyr. Unless you prefer Zen?" She couldn't help the blush that rose to her cheeks when he kissed her hand. The rest of his speech was a bit of a surprise though. She hadn't expected honesty of any sort from this man, and some small part of her refused to accept that he wouldn't try to steal anything from them, but she pushed that part down. Instead she gave him an arch look, as he leaned away, though her blush had definitely intensified. "I knew your intentions here weren't good when I found you here. If you knew anything about Jayden, you'd know how off you were in saying any of that. But, I can promise you I won't harm you, if you keep your hands off the merchandise." She didn't elaborate on if that meant her, or her things, and she didn't want to. Let him guess. She would be true to her word though, and the sincerity in her tone left little room for doubt on that. She had no real reason to hurt him, unless he hurt her first. "I like the way you think about your sister though. I miss my family dearly. They are traveling...somewhere I'm sure. Being gypsies and all." Most of this was said in a lightly conversational tone following the initial warning. She had switched modes effortlessly. She was also highly curious about how he had managed to get in, but she certainly wasn't going to ask. Secrets of the trade she supposed. She nodded as he moved off to put his things in the wash, sipping her tea carefully. It was the perfect temperature. And just within her perfect sweet range. When Zen returned she gave him a smile. "Since we are being honest and all, I suppose you know I can handle my blade. I'd much rather have a good conversation though. I get lonely when Jayden leaves." She took another sip of tea, and stood, moving around the room to find something to snack on, since she was up already. She pulled down a box of crackers from the cupboard and sat them on the table between the two of them. "So tell me about you. Anything at all about you. And I may just do the same." She gave another soft smile and put a cracker in her tea before biting it. She gave him another look, one that clearly said, "Do go on.." and then she waited. |
