Hey everyone, it's me, your Lord and Savior, your Once and Future King, and your new Admin-for-Life Unlimit Sendo. I'm here to drop some turnbuckle-diving elbows and awesome news. There's been some relatively small updates to rulings regarding summon familiars and single summons. Additionally, there's also been a pretty big update in regards to the AP shop which reorganizes it and adds a ton of new stuff. You can find that in the AP Shop section under Item Creation. Check it out.

Of course these bastards didn't intend on letting them get away with ruining their operations, their trade. A hail of gunfire encroached upon Artorius' position. The smoke began to clear rapidly now, dispersed by movement and the wind. Ducking and weaving from their assault, he rolled out of his current position into one of relative safety -- a metal-reinforced crate. Yet, he wouldn't be safe here for long, not if he let them get to him anyway. Raising magical power and concentrating it into his arm, he produced a single shaft of solid smoke magic before suddenly hurling it at them. As it reached them, it split its head into three prongs. They slammed hard into the bodies of three gunmen, flooring them to the ground, immediately knocking them out cold.

The gunfire lessened but it didn't stop. A high-pitched whine was emitted as a bullet struck a boiler of sorts. It rapidly depressurized as the contents screamed and begged for release. It wouldn't last long. Immediately, Artorius pulled himself up and broke into a sprint, getting the hell out of there. The explosion tore through that quarter of the dock warehouse as Artorius dove for safety. His ears were ringing from the shockwave, but he managed to avoid the worst of it much to his fortune. A fair amount of the gunmen perished, but that was an afterthought. The man in the mask was doing his darndest to escape, clutching a pair of briefcases in each hand.

Artorius couldn't let him escape, at least not without hearing just who exactly he worked for. The true man behind this transaction wouldn't just show up in person for the trade. That was obvious. He was working for someone, and that's what Artorius was going to get him to blurt out one way or another. Yet, getting to him wasn't easy.

"Cover my escape! Don't let them get to me. Remember how much we're paying you!" the Skullman cried out, barking orders with the utmost authority as he retreated across the warehouse catwalk. But, just how much respect and authority did he command if he had to wave a paycheck over their heads? From first hand experience, Artorius personally knew just how much allegiance he had to clients. It was little in comparison to true loyalty, that was for certain.

One of the hazards of blind gunfire was the collateral damage it could cause and unfortunately for Artesia and Artorius it was exactly that which caused their ears to ring. Stray and incidental, a bullet found its way to a boiler of sorts within the factory behind the fight and as it pierced its metal a ticking time bomb had been created. The louder the whistling it created the closer that everyone knew it was to blowing, the problem was that the fight at hand meant choosing your time to take cover was important. Thankfully both Artesia and Artorius were both unharmed despite the explosion and emerging from their respective places of cover they stood firm in their resolve. It would take far more than a bunch of armed men between them and their target and/or an explosion to deter them.

It was a sad thing that money could hold such power over people, was fighting to the death for someone that would throw you under a bus to save himself really how these men wanted to go out? Surely the pay they were receiving wasn't worth it considering they would have no use for it if dead. Regardless of such logic surely being easy for each and every one of them to obtain those that remained standing after the explosion mounted a group defence of their leader. Forming a line of defence between him as he retreated and their attackers they did their best to stand strong despite the fear of impending death that was evident behind each and everyone one of their eyes.

This time it was Artesia who made the first move to fight, she was great at creating chaos amongst grouped enemies, even more so as of late thanks to a recent discovery of hers. Leaping into the fight with the help the newly acquired dagger in her possession, the woman disappeared from her place alongside Artorius in the blink of an eye only to reappear amongst the large group of men themselves. The scent of her alluring perfume and the blur of movement as she appeared was all which those closest to her could make out before they felt their bodies being pierced and their blood being spilled in multiple places. Combining her death lotus and shadow assault technique the woman essentially shredded through those around her while thanking them for thinking that grouping was the best course of action.

Within moments the men who were no longer steady on their feet or able to fight found themselves being force fully shoved backwards and away from the figure amongst them. Slamming into their allies they created a dominoes effect and completed the effect with which the red head had sought to create the desired chaos amongst their ranks. She'd broken their numbers, broken their defence and left them panicked and scattered; perfect for her companion to clean up.

Money makes the world go around, essentially. This was something that Artorius Sidonis knew all too well. He spent much of his life as a thief, and once he had gained a list of reliable contacts they were all too eager to pay for his services. Yet, more often than that, he had been stealing from the fat cats of this diseased city in order to survive and make ends meet. Perhaps more than any other city, money means power. It means respect. Those with wealth and power are respected, and all too often they are feared. But here it was all about power. It was power that could be measured in units of 7.62 millimeter cartridges. These thugs would go on a damned bloody rampage if they were allowed to possess this many guns, bullets, and explosives. The city would become a warzone. And that's exactly why someone had to do something, even if that someone was a cold hearted thief.

Luckily, he wasn't alone. The partnership of Artesia and himself was an impressive one. This was most evident when she tore through their ranks, temporarily halting their gun fire with a wide array of blades of dark magic and steel. This had the added effect of leaving them open to Artorius' own attacks. Using the opportunity given to him, Artorius quickly climbed up atop a nearby crate. Then, after surging magical energy was collected and pooled in his eyes, he let it burst out. A black plume of smoke appeared in the center of the mass of soldiers, enveloping them whole. They writhed and clawed at their skin as they suffered the sensation of burning. They screamed in agony, but this only exacerbated their pain as they felt their lungs fill with this black choking smoke. A flurry of knives thrown into the smoke sealed their fates, killing several and incapacitating far more. Many of them would not be missed.

Leaving them behind, Artorius' quarry was the Skullman. He was the purveyor of this trade, the one who Artorius was after. This Skullman had him to answer to, but getting to him was no easy task that was for sure. While they had cleared much of the path towards him, he was nonetheless difficult to pin down. Wielding a large automatic rifle of his own, the Skullman's henchmen rained a hail of gunfire upon them. A bullet whizzed past him, but another skimmed across his armor. Though, the adrenaline kept him going, allowing him to ignore the pain and fear of death.

Leaping from cover to cover, Artorius eventually pinned him down towards a largely empty section of the industrial warehouse. As Artorius made his way towards the center of the room, a bullet barely avoiding his face prompted him to take cover once more.

"I don't know who you are or who the fuck you're working for, but know this! You messed with the wrong people, you son of a bitch," the Skullman's voice rang out as he stepped atop the catwalk in the distance. Opening one of the briefcases, he took his time assembling the contents. Finishing, he brandished a huge quad-barreled shotgun that he toted in his arms before cocking it, priming it ready. Meanwhile, about a half-dozen guards patrolled this room. They had to take them down systematically. Rushing into anything would get them filled with bullets. Stealth, precision, and speed. These were the three tenets of any rogue that would let them survive this, but nothing was guaranteed.

The chase in which Artesia and Artorius sought to catch the man in the mask proved to be incredibly dangerous. Bullets flew through the air as the man's last line of goons did their best to take out his pursuers, many of which grazed by them bot. Tearing fabric and burning flesh they inflicted grazes to Artesia's upper arms and legs however she was able to avoid taking damage that would slow her down or hinder her in the time to come. The cover that the various crates, pillars and buildings afforded them both was by far one of their greatest allies, without it they likely wouldn't have been able to keep sight of their target as well as they had without being riddled full of holes.

Travelling quite some distance through the weaves that the docks had to offer them Artesia and Artorius found themselves cornering the man in the mask they sought, too bad it was in quite the precarious situation. Their enemies had superior vision on them regardless of how they chose to move about on ground level, something that they couldn't change and would have to deal with. With the fact that they had long ranged weapons in their hands as well there was little chance that a head on charge would work well against them. Some tactics and teamwork were called for, thankfully both Artesia was more than fine with utilising.

"You know what they say about cornered rats." The red head smirked to her companion who she crouched beside while reaching for a small diamond encrusted flask she kept inside her jacket. The shot she would take from it would serve to start healing the small grazes she'd received from the chase and after tossing it to Artorius she would peer out to take a look at what they were facing with a little more clarity. There was nothing like a good swig of a strong drink to wake you the hell up before a good fight and she had the feeling her companion would see the benefit in it.

Things didn't look too simple in terms of reaching their target but since when would she let that bother her? Anything worth doing had a little bit of a challenge to it, not to mention that together the pair had been through far tougher things than what was before them. Confident in their ability to work closely together you could say that Artesia looked forward to taking action, there was something exhilarating about working with Artorius, just what it was or why it was so she could only speculate.

With a smoke grenade in her left hand as she took the flask back from him Artesia couldn't help but toss it into the air several times letting it make a satisfying thunk as she caught it again. "Ready tiger?" Her partner would be able to make use of any extra smoke in the air around them, with a way to give him just that the red head was intending to allow him to utilise a powered up version of his usual magic attacks as she tossed it without a care out into the open. It didn't matter where it landed for no matter where it was Artorius would be able to draw it into his lungs, not that their enemies knew that as they watched the pitiful attempt for what they thought was cover.

Waiting as loud and mocking laughter came from their enemies Artesia would be poised for action, the moment an opportunity for safe movement came she'd pounce upon it.

Artorius accepted the flask graciously, unscrewing the cap and taking a short swig. He drank just enough to dull the pain, but not the senses. He still needed that edge, that adrenaline coursing through his veins. The last thing he needed right now was to get drunk, but he was nonetheless appreciative of the effort, especially considering the contents slowly repaired a minor wound or two as the alcohol flowed through his blood system. Or, was it as the blood pumped through his alcohol system?

After he tossed the flask back towards its owner, he nodded his head as Artesia playfully tossed and caught a smoke grenade in her hand. He identified her ploy to use the smoke, both to distract the enemy but also to feed Artorius. It was an appreciated effort for sure, allowing him to conserve his own energy by consuming that instead from the artificial smoke. Quickly, he sucked it in, filling his lungs and drawing it into his gut before consuming it all in one go. Then, as he felt the power coursing and surging through his body, the hooded man emerged from the shadows for but a moment. A blast exploded outward, a black plume of smoke engulfing much of the room. It filled their lungs and clawed at their skin, but that was only about half of their numbers taken down, albeit they nonetheless suffered and were incapacitated.

He had to make use of the opportunity though, at least now that their numbers thinned and waned. It wasn't going to be easy by any means. He had to be fast and quick, plan ahead but think on his feet, lest he take a blast of bullets straight to the chest. And death was certainly not an option here. Running straight ahead, he careened around a corner, hooking his hand around it to maneuver better. Then, using the momentum, he leaped atop a crate before bounding upwards towards the catwalk. He closed a tremendous distance in that time using his speed and maneuverability, but the stretch to the Skullman was long and arduous, especially now that he was aware, blasting shells towards his position. Though, this gave Artesia the perfect opportunity to strike now that their focus was centered on Artorius.

"You think you're so clever with your smoke and magic, but you haven't seen real power yet!" the Skullman taunted before blasting his position with a barrage of bullets. After a brief moment, he began to collect magic into his weapon, causing the barrels to glow red hot. Artorius couldn't necessarily tell what kind of impact it would have if he was allowed to finish that, but it was nevertheless clear that he had to be interrupted at all costs.

The men upon the ground floor of the warehouse were mostly incapacitated by the smoke that Artorius had surrounded them with and it was the opportunity that Artesia had been waiting for. With a swift leap from behind her cover the red head dashed towards the nearest one. Taking him out she disarmed him in the process netting herself a rather handy and fancy looking handgun in the process. She might not have been one to use a firearm as a primary weapon or even as a secondary one but Artesia had most definitely used them before, in fact she was pretty damned good with a large variety of them. As long as the gun wasn't the kind that would send someone recoiling after being fired odds were she could use it efficiently, after all, accuracy was most definitely not something she lacked regardless of what she was using.

The acquisition of the firearm couldn't have been timed better for Artesia as Artorius found himself in a somewhat sticky situation thanks to positioning. Charging some kind of attack into the barrels of his intimidating and no doubt highly powerful weapon the masked man they were after had to be stopped, preferably before he fired it at her companion. She could fire a shot at the man himself but there was no assurance that such an act would interrupt him, for all she knew he could be quite the tank under that cloak and it wouldn't have been the first time she'd seen someone ignore an injury under such circumstances. She needed to obscure the man's vision, hinder his weapon and affect him physically in one fell swoop.

The first shot fired from the handgun Artesia wielded would strike a large pipe hanging over head of her target, a large pipe that was carrying with it steam being used by the various machines within the factory. Bursting forth from the hole pierced through the metal said steam shot downwards directly onto the man who had Artorius in his sights. Burning hot and unyielding it would serve to obscure vision of his target but more importantly it served to cause him to react as you would. In pain he flailed and moved out of its reach by staggering down the catwalk with his eyes clenched. If it hadn't been for his cloak and hood the masked man would have been burned significantly but at least he'd been forced to cease his attack, in fact the gun he held in his hands had been heated up the steam itself so much that he likely wouldn't be able to wield it with too much precision for at least a short period of time.

Artorius would be able to land upon the catwalk in the moments Artesia had afforded him and as she herself made it to the other end of it a simple push of an emergency stop button would bring an end to the steam that blocked him off from his target. With an enemy approaching him from both sides of the catwalk their masked man only had so many options, just which one he'd take remained to be seen.

Artesia had effectively disabled the Skullman, if only for a moment. A plume of piping hot steam blasted him with extreme heat, preventing him from seeing clearly. However, it didn't serve to deal much damage to him as he was well covered throughout his body. His head was covered with a purple felt hat, and his body was covered by a matching pinstripe suit. A pair of leather gloves protected his hands, but most notably his face was covered. Yet, while the steam didn't necessarily deal any lasting or sticking damage, it definitely distracted him enough. The fact that he could no longer wield his weapon with precision was largely irrelevant to him, at least at the moments before he pulled the trigger. But, as he squeezed down on it while the steam blasted him, perhaps acting by reflex or a muscular twitch, everyone in the warehouse would feel the consequences.

As he squeezed down hard on the trigger, searingly hot bolts of fiery magic blasted outward. They flew in every which direction. Some struck his men, some flew just barely overhead our two heroes, but some hit other things. Crates, the walls, the container at the far end of the room. Flammable objects. Soon, the warehouse became engulfed in a dire flame. Hellfire surrounded them, catching the wayward henchmen on fire. The very structure of this warehouse would also rapidly fall apart as the fire incinerated it. Pieces of roofing fell apart, containers under pressure began to explode and tear this place apart.

Yet, even in the danger, Artorius' goal never changed. The path towards him was now made even more arduous, but he couldn't let this opportunity slip away between his fingers. Even as fire and explosions burst around him, Artorius leaped upward. A bank of smoke was between him and the Skullman. It was thick, thick enough for him to leap onto. Using it as a platform, courtesy of his magic. Then, as the Skullman desperately aimed to shoot Artorius down, the Dragon Slayer was already upon him. His knees struck him hard in the chest, knocking the very wind out of him. Just as quickly, Artorius pulled his wrist back, pulling at a mechanism which caused a blade to burst out of his gauntlet. It struck him hard in the chest, giving him just barely enough time to answer for his crimes.

"You have failed this city for the last time," Artorius spoke, his rough voice laced with gruffness and grit.

"Heh... I'm just the salesman. A pawn, another cog in the machine. There will always be darkness in this city, but we at the center are the one beacon of Light."

"You were selling weapons to thugs, thugs who would start wars over every block of territory. It's over for you..."

"You're no hero. Just a murderer. We're not too different. I can see it in your eyes. How you put my men down with no hesitation. The only difference is I'm willing to admit what I am." Striking hard and true one last time, Artorius pierced the masked man's heart with his wrist blade, ending his life then and there. That was enough out of him.

There was much he had to think about now, however these things would be secondary. First things first, they had to get the hell out of this place. It was all coming down fast. Staying any longer would result in them getting buried alive out here.

With the talents and aid of the other Artesia and Artorius had managed to well and truly route their enemy, not that she had a hand in the final blows in any regard. While her companion launched himself at the man and tried to get some information out of him as a secondary measure Artesia found herself busy keeping the warehouse from bursting into an inferno of flames quicker than they could have handled. Thanks to the shots which their masked man had fired off in every direction the place was well and truly on fire. Flammable liquids and heated bullets were far from the best of things to go mixing but someone seemed to have forgotten to tell the idiots with guns about such a fact. Then again, it was at least partially their fault given their involvement in causing the shots in the first place.

Whatever the case was Artesia wasn't about to lose sleep over it.

As Artorius listened to the final words of their target Artesia used the remaining bullets in her handgun to shoot the pipes which ran directly over the places which were engulfed by flames. Temporarily the water which gushed from the holes in the metal piping served to keep the flames under some kind of control but it was more than obvious that it was only a temporary solution. Steam filled the air of the warehouse rapidly and smoke meshed with it from all directions, Artorius might have been fine amidst it all but his red head companion was far from enjoying herself. She'd managed to ensure that her companion had enough time to get what he could from the dying man but it wasn't long enough for them to linger around unnecessarily.

The water gushing from the pipes began to slow and sputter and as a result the crackling of flames grew to be more intense, they were running out of time. Her eyes burning and her hand over her mouth the woman's cloak was dropped as she heaved a large and heavy wooden trap door upwards, she had no idea why there would be one in a warehouse in the docks but given that the entire town was corrupt it was likely for some kind of shady purpose. Thanking the large doorknocker sized handle that gave the trapdoor away to her from the moment they'd entered the place she looked up to Artorius, her hood having fallen down to reveal her face as she did so. With a loud whistle she would draw his attention to her and with a smirk on her features she'd motion to the opening in the ground at her feet suggesting he make the leap into what lay beneath first.

Beneath the warehouse that was being swallowed in flames Artorius would find himself deep in freezing cold water as the channel beneath seemed to have more leaking pipes than not. After allowing him long enough to land and after hearing the sound of said water splashing Artesia was quick to make the leap downwards to follow him and together the pair would have to make a pretty mad 'dash' if they wanted to avoid having everything fall down on top of them.

The words that the masked man had spoken to him remained in his mind, lingering constantly at the forefront of his thoughts. His words were vague, speaking of some beacon of light. Was it a clue of some sort, or perhaps it was some sort of arrogant pride that made him think he was better? At the same time, he spoke that he was no hero. Artorius never thought of himself as one, but as he pointed out that he was no different, merciless and ruthless and willing to kill those who got in his way, Artorius felt a sharp pang in his gut. They were totally different. Artorius wasn't doing this for personal gain, not for profit, but because it was the right thing and his city needed that. At the very least, that is what he believed.

Yet, he couldn't let these thoughts distract him, at least not now, not here, not in a blisteringly hot hellfire and inferno that this warehouse had turned into. They needed to get out of here and survive. Artorius refused to let this place become his grave, and surely Artesia thought the same way. Luckily, the woman managed to find a trapdoor. A curious thing to have in this warehouse, but it would nonethless serve them well. They splashed down into ice cold water, treading a bit before swimming back towards the surface, pulling and hoisting themselves up and over a wall after climbing a ladder. They were soaking wet, but it sure as hell beat burning and choking to death.

Turning back towards Artesia, he pulled her hood back over his head. "Lay low for awhile. Stay out of trouble." He wasn't sure just who this Skullman worked for, but they were certainly dangerous. Without certain, they would be sending people after them, and he couldn't exactly let Artesia wander around in danger. Though, at the same time she was a big girl. He knew she could take care of herself. She was strong, as capable as he was, but for now it might be best if she keep distance and lay low for awhile, as he intended on doing the same thing.

After that, Artorius leaped away onto the next roof. Down below, he could see the fire consuming the warehouse. But also, the Knights and officers on the ground and the crowd could see him, a man cloaked in cloth, smoke, and shadows. They pointed at him, but only before he disappeared back into the shadows. This was the first the city would see of the man in the hood, but not the last.

Unable to prevent the gasp that followed her emersion in the freezing cold water below Artesia'd have said a few choice words if she hadn't been forced to hold her breath momentarily. As the sound of the crackling fire in the warehouse above intensified explosions began to rip through its content the pair in the tunnel below made their best pace towards the free waters of the harbour. Well at home in the water Artesia kept up with Artorius in their escape despite her slower start, she was far from out of her element when it came to swimming and thankfully he was far from a bad swimmer himself. Both had to be glad to be moving at all as they fought against the low temperature surrounding them, unfortunately though a time to climb the wooden ladder before them.

What was worse than being in cold water? Getting out of cold water and standing in the chilling night breezes. Artesia was a tough woman and so did her best to ring out as much of the water that weighed down her body, she'd wanted to ditch the cloak to shed some weight as well but she'd have been getting rid of what little protection her skin had from the night air. She'd just have to wear it and make do.

Standing atop a rooftop the pair were freezing and yet alive with the flames that burned in the distance serving as a rather striking scene for them to observe, one whose warm would have been welcomed. Arms folded and her hood hiding her chattering jaw Artesia looked to Artorius's back, "So what now huh?" She asked. She'd had every intention of sticking by her companion until the end of their new adventure, in fact she was seeking to find out what it was he'd learned from the man they'd just risked their lives to take down in order to help plot their next move. That was what happened every other time, she hadn't been expecting it to differ. Although perhaps she should have suspected he'd do just what he was about to given his previous and somewhat different behaviour.

Blowing her off and giving her some line about laying low Artorius leapt off into the night and without a thing she could do to stop him Artesia watched his figure disappear into the night. She wasn't sure when she'd see him again but she had the feeling he'd be in one piece, or at least that was she she hoped anyway.
