Astria was rather rudely woken up by a semi-familiar face from the night before. Slowly managing to get her brain to work in the twilight of morning, Astria climbed out of the cot that she had wished Inara and her could have shared, but measurements meant they couldn't. It took a second, and a brief period of stretching, but Astria did come to recall the events that had transpired the other day and the situation they were in now. Underground and somehow at the mercy of a group of thieves, something about going treasure hunting. Groggily making her way over to the table where something of breakfast had been set up for them all, Astria started to eat, though slowly, not sure how safe the food was to eat. Washing her meal down with a glass of water, Astria started to feel a lot more awake and sort of snapped out of her morning daze. Now it was time for them to work. Following the man down a dark tunnel adjacent to the dungeon they were in, Astria felt as if she could actually feel her skin paling as it had been some time since she'd last been outside. A bit dramatic, but truthfully it was starting to get a bit ridiculous, what with all the underground networks and such that they were being forced to go through. Astria could certainly agree that just the ring wasn't worth all this hassle, but hindsight was always twenty twenty and really making an attempt to stop a thief in broad daylight was something that should be praised more than anything! Evidently their journey down here, down this dark tunnel even further underground, was in pursuit of some lost treasure buried ages ago. While it seems that they've managed to find it and dig to it, evident by these tunnels, they were in need of some magic in order to completely break through whatever sort of 'guard' that was blocking them from the treasure. "I could explain it, but it'll just be easier to see it." The man spoke in response to Inara as they started to enter a spacious chamber. entering on the high point, there existed a small ledge- though wide enough that all three of them could comfortably stand on it- and to their right was a downward slopping path which spiraled around the edge of the room before reaching the bottom. Peering down, Astria noted that it was quite a ways fall down to the stone ground, so they had better be careful with their steps as they walked. The man kicked a tiny pebble off the ledge and after a hushed whistling sound, the rock hit the ground. Not even a moment later a faint rumbling could be felt throughout the chamber, and for Astria who was looking over the edge, she would see a large figure emerge from below, right below the pebble, before falling deeper underground. Though only the head had fully poked out of the ground, Astria distinctly saw appendages on the beast that were leaking something akin to smog. "Yeah, I'm sure you see our problem now. Every time something touches the ground down there, that thing comes up from below. We tried to handle it ourselves, but it was just too big- though somewhat slow- and worst of all those smoke stacks on its back make it hard to breathe or see after an extended time." With that the man shrugged his shoulders, confessing that just finding the treasure was the best they could do for now. "So I don't suppose either of you have dealt with that kind of beast before?" The man asked, chuckling a bit. Astria certainly hadn't a clue how to deal with it right now, but perhaps Inara might? |

Inara spotted the creature as the entered the cavern. She could see the masses of smog and smoke which seemed to be rolling off of the creature, and she wondered if perhaps this wouldn't be a problem that she could actually take care of. "I could try using my magic. It might help with the smog issues. Maybe." She had once cleaned up a river in that fashion. She didn't think clearing the air would be much more difficult, except for the scary thing that was producing it. "I don't suppose anyone has any plans on how to fight it while I try clearing the air do they?" She gave each of the men in turn a look. The only one who stepped forward was the big silent fellow. And she still wasn't sure she could trust him to take care of the creature. It was awfully large. She gave a soft sigh and nodded, knowing she had little choice in the matter. The path was terribly steep, and she was certain that there was little to nothing she could do if she tripped to stop herself from a headlong descent. So the going was quite slow all in all. She took small careful steps,.occasionally relying on her silent companion to help keep her footing on the slope. When the neared the bottom the paths slope lessened somewhat, and Inara knew she must go on her own to see if the smog could he conquered at all. She turned into her dryad self with little effort, and tried using her roots as she once had, to turn nastiness into cleanliness. It wasn't her fault that once the process began to work the beast became angry and ran at her. Apparently it was thoroughly against her making its smog into cleaner air. She wrapped all three of her vines around it, trying to hold it off, but it was quite nearly too strong. "A little help would be appreciated. Please?" The silent guy went forward, brandishing a club. He aimed at the things head, but there didn't seem to be much affect on the creature other than it getting angrier and thrashing harder against against her vine prison. It managed to free on long arm and knock the man to the ground. She started her spell for Blood Orchids, and that seemed to drain some of its power, as well as its anger. Still, if it made another hard try, she was certain it could break her hold. She held on Tight and hoped hard that either the man would get up, or there would be better help on the way. |

Glad to see that Inara had an idea about how to handle the situation, Astria thought her plan was definitely worth trying out. Getting rid of the air pollution from the beast would at least mean that they could stand being in the same chamber as it so they could slay it. According to their "guide" the beast was strong, but not exactly swift so as long as they could stay out of its reach they should be able to nicely handle it. At least that was start. Astria wasn't entirely sure of to the extents of Inara's magical capabilities, but from their brief episode prior to this, the woman knew Inara was somehow linked to nature and could make herself into a wooden women. Following along on the path down, Astria kept a little bit of distance, unsure how much room Inara would need for whatever sort of plan she had. As the woman wordlessly transformed her body into her magical wood form and from there sent out vines to ensnare the large underground creature. Though Inara managed to put on some shackles, the beast was strong, and so it thrashed against its restraints- hoping to break free and unleash its angered fury. A man tried to jump into the fray, helping out Inara while her roots were starting to come undone around the creature, but after a limb managed to get free the beast swatted him away like he was nothing more than an insect. Time to step up her game a bit, Astria went through her typical rational of determining which of her Saints would be best to use in a situation like so. Quetzal was immediately out due to the confined space not being the best to utilize her weather warping abilities. Laki, for a similar, reason wouldn't be suited as she featured a more defensive arsenal of abilities. Ren would be possible, but something up close would serve to be better. Noah was perhaps better for humanoid threats as opposed to monsters. When it came to Seturno or Kuzo, it was a question of strength or speed and given the beast's sluggish nature, Astria was inclined to choose the latter. "I pay homage to the Saint of Valor, Kuzo!" Astria recited her incantation while flipping forward her golden coin, marked with Kuzo's symbol of a bird bust. From the white magical seal a muscular man in more tribal clothing appeared before them all. Standing on the ground in front of the monster, Kuzo went to work to get its attention and hopefully weaken it down while it was trapped within Inara's roots. Astria noticed some particular plants started to appear along the lengths of the roots, but was unsure of what they would do. "Inara, what are those plants appearing?" The woman asked quickly, her Saint already activating its speed buff to start running laps around the creature. Choosing quick moments to strike, Kuzo landed swift jabs and kicks when he could. His goal was to merely distract the creature and pick at it, with concentrated hits. Due to the body, it was quite durable, but with the restraints provided from Inara, Kuzo was free to wear aware at it on the outside. |

Inara was immensely grateful when Kuzo came to her aid. She was a little sad that the silent man had managed to get hurt so quickly. It was more than a little surprising as well considering this was a foe they had supposedly encountered before. He should have known what he was up against. Still, a portion of her vines held, and even as Kuzo was hurting the thing, she heard Astria calling to her. The question about plants threw her off for a moment, until she remembered that not everyone in Fiore was privileged with knowledge of her magic's workings. She called over her shoulder, "They are my Blood Orchids. They hurt him and help me, for a basic explanation." She kept holding on to the thing, even as Kuzo distracted the beast, keeping it focused on him rather than her vines. But they were doing their work well, and sooner than expected the creature began to calm down. It was tired, and and it had lost much of its energy to her flowers. The air at last began to clear, and Inara let go, knowing that the thing would be rather tired, and probably unable to fight anymore. Not unlike herself. Her true form took over quite quickly, and she sat down on the ground for a moment, tired beyond belief. "Just give me a moment please. I will be up and around in just a moment." She was still a bit wobbly when she stood, and as she passed the beast, it lunged at her, as hurt animals often will at something they see as a threat. The problem was, this one was full of toxins, and it had arms. It had her in something of a bear hug, and she had to wriggle quite hard to get it to let go. Thankfully Kuzo was still there, and had been kind enough to give it a sound strike on its head as it grabbed her. "Thank you." She directed her thanks at both Kuzo, and his summoned. She really wasn't sure what she would have done without them at this point. The men from before finally made it down the ledge and Inara fixed them with an arch glance, full of anger. "I don't suppose any of you happened to think that neither of us would be much use to you dead. You could have helped." The older man gave a snort of laughter and Inara crossed her arms over her chest, one small toe tapping in the soil, a safe distance for Grimm the creature. "Come on now lass. If tiny couldn't handle it, so you really think an old man like me could have?" She sighed and looked at him, all seriousness. "You could have tried all the same." When she got no reply, she looked at him, knowing their situation meant they were at the mercy of these men. "Lead on. I suppose you need help elsewhere as well in this cursed tunnel." |

Astria nodded at Inara's explanation, rather intrigued about how the flowers functioned. Plants were full of interesting, though often deadly, attributes and after a somewhat recent trip through what was literally a garden from Hell, Astria was still rather apprehensive to be so calm around plants- even if they were apart of her friend's magic. The summoner started to make her way down closer to the ground and closer to Inara as the giant creature was starting to tire, the atrocious fumes from its back slowly dispersing. It was a large creature and between Inara's bind and Kuzo's jabbing assault it was likely worn out. Well at least this would mean they didn't have to kill it, not that Astria was sure they could pierce through the creature's thick hide and would rather be spared from having to deal with that. Though the beast lashed out once more at Inara, Kuzo quickly acted and freed the woman. With the ordeal wrapped up, Astria was actually pretty glad that it ended on an easier note than she had originally anticipated. That said it wasn't any thanks to the men that had brought them here, but then again if they were actually capable of handling the monster they wouldn't have needed to kidnap two girls. Just the same it wasn't exactly nice to feel like someone's lapdog, which was very much the feeling going around right now. Astria merely sighed and rolled her eyes at the men as Kuzo shook his head in disappoint at them, ashamed that men would require women to do their dirty work. With her summon kept out and not more than a step behind her, Astria and Inara were escorted to the doorway the creature was guarding. "Ah, well now lass, that's where it gets interesting. We don't know where the rest of this place leads and seeing that we are all old men here- save Tiny who got quite a whopper from that creature there- how about we hang back a little and let you gals and your magical prowess handle whatever may be ahead?" The man spoke, sounding more and more cruel as he spoke- a sly grin on his face. Astria glared back at him, half annoyed and half in disgust. They had seemed so much kinder the other night, but evidently that wasn't something that mattered now. Kuzo spit in their direction to incite a bit of ire, but it largely just rolled off their shoulders. "C'mon Kuzo, it's clear that these people are just the despicable type who wouldn't lift a finger to help some damsels in distress." Astria spoke, though she would never exactly call herself a "damsel in distress" it certainly got something of a chuckle from the men behind them. "Just get yourselves movin'! We don't have all day to sit around here." And with a brush of his hand, he motioned for the girls to get moving. The next room would have paths that forked into three different directions, not including behind themselves. This room would have, at its center, a large blossoming crystal. The crystaline flower would flourish, periodically opening and closing like the real flower whose shape had been taken. A light radiated from the flower, giving out an invigorating and oddly alluring sensation. Even more strangely, the crystal was blooming in a puddle of dark water, which seemed almost impossible. The water was pitch black dispite the crystaline flower above it giving off such an incandecent light source. Closer examination would reveal the strange situation. When the crystal was in its bud form the waters were dark and night, but upon blooming, the flower that emerged would cause the water below to become transparent. Astria remarked about how interesting it was, but then turn her attention on the pathways before them, hearing some droplets of water echoing throughout the tunnel. "Well, I suppose we might as well keep going straight?" Astria suggested, not really sure of any better option. OOC

Inara moved quickly to follow Astira, surprised at the behavior of the men who had been so kind the night before. She couldn’t quite resist the urge to turn back and give them one last comment. “I should have known,” she said in a quiet but stern voice. “That especially among thieves there can be no honor.” Then she spit, quite accurately, at the toe of the boot of the oldest man. She still believed in her heart of hearts that the only one who might have been willing to help them was lying on the floor, knocked out cold. She gave an indignant huff, ignoring the look of rage on the man’s face, and began walking away. The cavern was dark. She got nervous as they walked, suddenly worried that there might be things here that could see her when she couldn’t see them. She took a deep breath and pulled the cloak about her more tightly. The light at the end of the tunnel looked happy indeed, even though it was only some strange crystal. The water around it shimmered darkly, and she was more than a little nervous of it, or of taking any one path. After all, they were fairly far underground at this point, and Inara wasn’t exactly sure where they were meant to go, or even what precisely they were meant to be finding at this point. When Astria suggested they take the center path, Inara nodded, determined to be brave. After all, her new friend was being exceptionally brave thus far. She should follow suit. It was as they passed the glowing crystal in the center of the room that she found herself momentarily entranced. She didn’t mean to, but she ended up drifting in that direction for just a few steps, the better to see the glowing object in the middle of the dark pool. It was as her slipper touched the edge of the water that she suddenly remembered herself, and she turned, rushing to catch up with her friend. It was as she started up the path behind Astria that she gave a small cry. Something was terribly wrong. “Astria..I can’t…I can’t see!” Her vision had suddenly gone blurry, just before the world around her went dark. She knew she hadn’t left the cavern with the crystal yet, so she knew there should still be light around her, and she should be able to see. “I touched the water and now I can’t see anything.” There was a small note of panic in her voice. She tried hard to keep it back. But she didn’t want to be blind. She wanted to be able to see where she was going. Besides which, she had no idea if this was permanent or not. What if she could never see again? She made a strange sound, something between a gasp and a sob as the thought occurred to her. For better or worse, she was stuck this way for the moment. So she fought the panic back down and tried to carry on being brave. “I…I’m afraid I need you to lead me.” She said it quietly, her voice a small squeak. She couldn’t help being just a little frightened, not to mention she knew she would be a terrible burden on her friend incapacitated thus. |

Continuing down the center path with Inara not far behind, Astria tried to remain incredibly alert. They were considerably underground and with absolutely no idea of any sudden drops or other unsafe features in these caverns, it wouldn't hurt to take things slowly. At least that would be true if they were in a normal situation. The thieves who had put the girls here in the first place would likely start to get violent if they weren't quick or at least passing themselves well. They had mentioned some vague treasure down in these underground areas, but given the branching paths and already one sizable guard to get pass in order to enter the caverns, Astria was worried about what was lurking around them. A sudden noise pierced the air, which made Astria instantly turn right around on her heels- hand in her bag to pull out her coins. She saw Inara, and though at least there was relief in not seeing some sort of monster, the summoner rushed over to her companion to see what was wrong. Slight panic in her voice, Inara kept saying that she couldn't see anything, that she had gone blind. Concerned, and frankly quite frightened for the woman, Astria tried to get a look into the woman's eyes. They didn't seem to be injured, but the vibrant color they had before had faded and looked almost foreign on the woman's face. Inara had such gorgeously vibrant eyes before, but to see them almost lifeless- devoid of color- Astria couldn't help, but think that somehow Inara's eyes were swapped out with some blind person. "Oh, no..." Was all Astria could think to say as she tried to figure out what was going on. Inara mentioned going by the water, and now not being able to see anything, but Astria wasn't sure if that's what had done it. True enough the water was strange in how it acted with the crystal, but that didn't necessarily mean it had anything to do with this. That said, Astria wasn't exactly wanting to go swimming in it. Trying to deal with Inara's blindness right now, Astria was concerned with where it came from- though that was starting to feel like the water- and how long would it be before it left. If it left at all, that is... Quite a morbid thought, but blindness wasn't something that typically came and left like the cold. 'I-uh... I can lead you, no problem." Astria was feeling a bit nervous and stressed, feeling an extra sense of pressure to look out for Inara as well. They went from two bodies with four eyes to see everything to two bodies with only two eyes to see everything. No matter how it was looked at, the situation had taken a turn for the worse. Perhaps a bit paranoid that something was going to happen in the caves, Astria held Inara by the hand and made sure to carefully look at each step before she took it. "We should be extra careful now. I get a really bad feeling coming from this cave." Astria warned Inara, something of a chill racing down the woman's spine as she said it. Walking along, the crystals seemed to serve as a decent light source, so far at least. The tunnel they chosen seemed to just wind further and further along, but occasionally Astria would glance back and still be able to see the chamber they came from, so it couldn't have been that far... right? Being closed in, underground, like this was rather nerve wracking when you considered the various disasters that could happen. Obviously the tunnel collapsing was at the top of the list, but still there were a lot of danger you couldn't predict. Astria had a large amount of experiences to speak to that. Though, the woman tried to remain optimistic and at least appreciate that at least there was nothing going on right now. Well, that is until the loud screech. Hearing it echo and seemingly repeat itself over and over, Astria covered her right ear with her free hand. Looking ahead the woman could almost hear the sound of wings, except for the fact that the screeching covered any other sounds. Within moments the entire cavern was flooded with bats! A massive swarm of them were flying through as fast as they could, crying out with their loud screaches. Ducking down, and pulling Inara with her, the girls would be able to avoid being knocked around by them, though the biggest question was surely- what startled them? |

Inara was careful to stay with Astria, who seemed to be a little shaky herself. She wasn't really one to rely on someone else so fully, and her lack of sight was disturbing. She kept blinking and moving her head as if she were looking at something, trying her hardest not to give over to her rising panic. She swallowed it down, sure that if she did it would only make things harder on her companion. And since she was the cause of this misery in the first place, she was determined not to let that happen. They stepped carefully and moved quite slowly. She was sure Astria was being extra careful on her behalf. Inara stayed with her, and eventually her other senses began to take control, her hearing sharpened, and her sense of smell became heightened. It seemed her body knew how to deal with her blindness even if she didn't. The dripping of the cave walls, and the breathing of both herself and her companion became loud to her ears. She could smell the salt and ore in the rocks that made up the caverns, and the earth above and below them, as well as the water. It was an odd sensation indeed. She took a few deep breaths, trying to use the senses instead of being overwhelmed by them. Everything seemed to be going swimmingly until a sudden screeching noise rent the air. Astria pulled Inara down suddenly, and she felt the breeze created by the wings of the bats as the flew above and around them. Luckily they seemed to be unharmed, but there was indeed the question of what would cause such a commotion. Inara blinked rapidly several times out of habit, and to her surprise a blurry sort of world seemed to be coming into view. She blinked again and noted that there was actually light reaching her. In her excitement she squeezed Astria's hand tightly."I think...I think my sight is returning." She couldn't help being happy about that. As it continued to clear, she felt something wet falling on her hand, which she had put up to her face. It wasn't tears, for she wasn't crying. At last her vision cleared, and she could see in her hand that there was water covering it, but inside it floated two small black beads. She wondered about it absently, but there was little time for her to celebrate the return of her sight. Up ahead, a new cave entrance was visible. And beyond it, the source of panic for the small creatures from before. It seemed they were not alone down here, anymore than they had been at the start of the path. A reptile of some kind was moving around, with large fangs in its mouth and a long swishing tail. But this was no ordinary beast. Its eyes glowed an odd shade of crimson, and it seemed to be as blind as she had been a moment before. It scented the air around them, at last zeroing in on the position of the two crouching women. Inara stood promptly, drawing her sword. If it was a fight the beast wanted, it was a fight it would get. And that did seem to be the case, as it stopped scenting and turned its face in their direction. Inara had already moved into guard position when it did something that she had not expected. It spoke. "What have you come to seek mortals?" ooc

Standing back up, slowly at first to see if there were any lingering bats around, Astria looked back towards the way they came- the way the bats flew- and then looked forward towards the cavern, wondering what they were flying away in such a hurry for. Still holding Inara's hand, the summoner continued to carefully walk forward, somewhat thankful that the worst thing they've run into in the caverns were just a swarm of bats. It perhaps would have been a problem if the bats were more malicious and aimed to attack the girls, but they just ignored them- quite a luxury at this point. The only other solace Astria could take was that Inara claimed some of her sight was returning to her! "Wonderful! I was really getting worried." Astria responded, glad to know that the lose of vision wasn't permanent. The caves were dark and all, even with some light coming from the luminescent lights, and though it could be compared to blindness, actually losing your sight was far, far worse. Walking through the new cave entrance, the women would see a various obvious reason for why the bats were in a hurry to vacate the area. A large reptile walked around the room, with large fangs going over the lips of its mouth and menacing crimson eyes that pierced the darkness of the chamber in ways the crystals on the walls never could. The creature tilted its head up slightly, the nostrils flaring open and close- sniffing out the scents in the air- and instantly it started to stare directly at the two mages. Astria's hand already in her bag on instinct, the woman really would rather not have another battle, especially when it was likely just a territorial creature trying to protect its turf. The large monster from before was at least emitting damaging fumes that were harmful to everything, so at least getting rid of a pollutant could be justified as some good, but this lizard- though large and menacing- wasn't really doing anything wrong. Just the same, Astria wasn't going to be idle in this situation. As unfortunate as it was, the lizard was in their way and the needed to get by. All prepared to start a battle with Inara by her side, Astria was keeping a sharp eye for any sudden strikes, when she heard something she wouldn't have guessed. A noise, well speech was probably more accurate, but a foreign voice was heard, somewhat echoing in the chamber. T-The creature spoke to them?! Astria took a moment to glance around make sure that it wasn't just some talented ventriloquist throwing their voice to see if they could trick the girls, but with only the large reptile in the chamber aside from them the source had to be the creature. Getting over the sudden surprise of the beast talking to them, Astria had to actually process the question and it occurred to her that... she actually had no idea what they were looking for exactly. The thieves had just sent them down here and steered them in the right direction with the talk of some treasure or some other precious relics down here. Given their circumstances they weren't really in a position to go against their demands. "We're looking for some treasure. Well, not us per say, but something of value is down here and that's what we're looking for." Astria answered the lizard, wanting to sound as confident as possible with her answer, but given the vagueness of it- that was pretty impossible. Though she couldn't be sure it almost seemed like the lizard was... chuckling? Could reptiles chuckle? Either way, Astria felt a little offended, but kept a straight face at the creature. There was a slight bit quite after Astria's answer and the lizard just darted its tongue in and out of its mouth, tasting the air perhaps? "Are you sure that's what you're here for? You seem to not know yourself." The lizard spoke- again strange- but its answer was rather smug. So Astria wasn't really sure what they were looking for down here, it really wasn't the creature's business anyhow. "You guess well, I should say. There are untold riches below, but that is hardly the reason to go so far. What lies below is a power better left forgotten, a force that would only be detrimental to the way of life now." The lizard's voice was surprisingly serious given that it was a lizard and all, but it certainly made the mage raise an eyebrow. True she had no idea what exactly they were unearthing here, but given that they were being employed by thieves she just assumed it was some rare relic or mountain of treasure. This new information had the woman thinking things over a little. A sudden call from behind them snapped her back to reality. "Eh, what's the hold up? You got through that bit with the water so quickly, but this is holding you up?" The man from before had finally thought it safe enough to venture a little ways into the cave system, and caught up to Astria and Inara, though he stayed a bit behind in the tunnel rather than fully going into the chamber with the lizard like the girls had. Before Astria could respond to the rude man, the lizard quickly raised its tail and crashed it down on the ground. A loud rumble echoed throughout and slight quakes could be felt around them before the tunnel behind them started to loose its ceiling and the opening between it and the chamber closed up. "I could taste the malicious intent coming off them. There are more than one way to that accursed chamber, but I can only guard this area. You two have a different set of personalities and since I cannot go any further, I entrust it to you. There are further trials and tribulations ahead, but if you could rid this are of its malicious presence then I would be eternally grateful." The lizard spoke rather quickly, again rather off-putting given its reptile body, but Astria managed to piece together the main idea. "You want us to rid this area of the evil spirit that lurks in some other chamber?" Astria asked, somehow this wasn't even the weirdest thing she'd ever said. The lizard didn't answer with words, but with a sweeping motion of its tail a door way appeared on the opposite end of the chamber, a signal to continue on. The summoner looked towards Inara, trying to find some since of reason. "This has become rather... crazy? Yeah, I think crazy suits it right. Want to purge and evil spirit?" Astria asked her, somewhat jokingly since the only other pathway was actually caved in behind them. |

Inara watched as the thing question Astria. She was so confused. How could it come off as arrogant like that, as though it were nothing? She took a deep breath, ready to tell it that it needed to calm itself. Of course they didn’t know where they were going or what they were looking for! How could they when no one had bothered to tell them? She was about to say so when the old man from earlier interrupted and the ceiling of the cave fell in, blocking the entrance and the only exit for that matter. This cavern looked more like a palace though, with all the light cast by those strange crystals. It took Inara more than a little while to understand what the lizard thing was saying. It was asking them to defeat a….what now? She laughed a little as Astria asked her slightly sarcastic question. It wasn’t as if they had any choice. She looked at the blue haired mage and started giggling. It wasn’t panic, and it wasn’t uncontrollable. It just seemed so impossible to Inara, her fighting off an evil spirit. She couldn’t think of anything at that she could do that would be helpful to such an end. The lizard seemed to be watching her, even though she knew it was utterly blind. “You laugh, but there are things that you can do that no one else can, isn’t that right?” Inara nodded, sobering quickly enough. They had no choice, that is what she kept telling herself anyway. This was something they had to do to move forward. She made a face, something like nearly getting sick. She wanted the sun back. She wanted out of this cursed place. Preferably with her life intact, though at this point she thought that might be asking a tad much. She took a deep breath and looked at the creature, her eyes wide. It was important, she thought, to ask the right questions while she could. “What is this other path you speak of? And is there anything you can tell us about the chambers beyond this one?” She wanted specifics, but she knew better than to get her hopes up. “I can only tell you that it is dangerous, and that each of you will have to rely on the other for help. The spirit that needs to be cleansed is tied….Is tied to…” There was a sound, like the voice was literally being cut off, as though the lizard were somehow being strangled. “I cannot tell you more. It is forbidden.” Inara sighed again. “But please, both of you be careful. I will say, I recommend going right as much as possible, though I cannot tell you why that is either.” Inara nodded and looked at Astria. At the back of the cave there seemed to be three more passages. What was with this place and threes? ”Shall we then?” She pointed to the right hand tunnel, and started that way. |
