Home. Well this place was sorta like home. She was in the area, heading around looking for more saint coins as well as just shopping in general. One thing that made this similar to Onibas was that unlike most other cities in Fiore this one had some of the best shopping, or at least places to shop. It wasn't hard to figure out, after all it was the place where nearly everything, regardless of how it was acquired, was sold to the highest buyer. Now growing up in a place like this, Astria knew her way around the crowds fairly well. They were clustered along the middle of the street and grouped up along the sides, looking at the different booths and their merchandise. Weaving between the outer and inner lanes of people was fairly easy for her at home and with her stature she could easily get through a few tight spots. The summoner was okay with people, but wasn't to happy about being in crowds. They didn't really bother her so much as she was a little annoyed that she couldn't get to where she wanted to go without interruption, or rather the constant interruption of having people in front of her. It was a little fun to play this little game of seeing how fast she could make it through the crowd without having to knock someone over or bumping against a booth. Her eyes darted around as she moved through the crowds, looking at all the different scenarios going on and all the different things being sold. This particular one on Ash Street was, like always, bustling with haggling, rip-offs, and rare merchandise. Astria knew the place like the back of her hand and could easily find the shortest way to any and everything in town, but decided that she would best reconnect with the town by experiencing this. As she walked by she heard the same phrases that customers and sellers used when she was a kid. Stuff like 'No refunds' and 'How is anyone supposed to pay for that' and her favorite 'Take it or leave it'. Whenever a merchant around here used that phrase it was pretty much a guaranteed sell. Smart people who came here knew that only this place would have what you're looking for. After all if it's at least not on Ash Street, or Lotus Street for that matter, it probably doesn't exist. Thinking about Lotus Street gave her chills and happy memories. It was always fun to run around there when she was little. The place had interesting people, rare items, and even rarer books. Though it was also pretty scary. That strip more then any had it's share of looters, muggers, and cutthroats. Some were actually so good that they could steal the shirt off your back and you wouldn't notice until you got home. She made a few turns and cut down an alleyway before arriving at the edge of the section of town that had what she was most interested in at the moment. Books. Sure she could have gone to any number of other streets or bazaars for rare or exotic books, but she wasn't interested in those right now. All Astria wanted a simple book. It didn't even matter that much what it was about, but she would prefer it to be a suspenseful fiction story. Those usually were the most... well suspenseful. The feeling of being on the edge of you seat wondering what could happen next was just what separated good writers from bad ones and for someone with her literary experience it was easy enough to tell from the first few pages whether or not it would be worth reading. It was late in the day and Astria wasn't worried so much about if the booths would be open, some of them never closed, but instead if all the good merchandise was taken already. There weren't many that read like she did, or at least that's what she assumed. Sure there were people who read even when not required to, but she was always reading and if she wasn't that was because something more important, like researching or finding something to read had stopped her. Truthfully she didn't read as much now, but considering the amount she read as a kid she figured that it balanced out. The lights along the booths were turning on and while it kept the booths in the eye of customers it mainly highlighted the items for sell and not the seller. This was probably for the best because a fair amount of the merchants in town weren't the most reliable and it was probably best that they didn't show off there faces. Astria never cared too much about fraudulent merchandise because she never bought anything really rare in a this town. A native knew better then anyone that you were better off buying common goods since no one wanted to go through the effort of counterfeiting things that no one would pay a gross amount of jewels for. The street she'd chosen turned out to not have that great of a selection when it came to books, at least books that would be at her level. They had some that appeared interesting, but the length of them was so short she could finish it within an hour of buying it, so it would kind of be a waste of jewels. Still she continued to walk on, hoping that a novel would just pop out and catch her eye, preferably with a big sign that said "Here! Here! Buy Me!" though a book with that title probably wouldn't have the story she wanted. Her walk ended her up in the area that contained a lot of food venders and restaurants. The blue-haired mage wasn't in any particular need for something to eat, maybe just a fast snack and a drink, but it wasn't pressing. Her tour of the books was over and now she was to decide on what to quickly grab a bite of. Again the choices were immense, and while options were nice, too many made deciding on something harder. Adjusting her headband she continued down the sidewalk, looking at for any vendor that something delicious for her. |

Inara stepped off the railway platform into Oshibana, surprised at the volume of people moving through the town. For such a small town it seemed to be rather full of bustling and yelling and .... She sighed, green eyes flashing around the buildings and wishing it weren't quite so loud. She had only come here from Magnolia because it had sounded like a good place for shopping, which she loved dearly. She had a list ready. She had already already tried shopping in Magnolia and since her run in with muggers, she was disinclined to try again. The streets were full, and she was thankful for her small size yet again as she wiggled her way through the crowd. There were a number of booths and vendors lining the street she was on, though she hadn't thought to catch the name of it. She might be new to Oshibana, but she knew fake when she saw fake and didn't bother with most of the higher prices items the vendors yelled at her about. She was looking for something specific. It was a little ring, just big enough for Kitania to wear, with a cat on it. Hopefully in a rainbow if gemstones. She sighed. The further she moved along, the darker the streets became. As it got dark, Inara smiled as the lights of the stalls lit the merchandise within, though it hid the faces of the vendors, making more than a few of them seem ominous. She saw it then. A lovely little cat ring, child sized, with a clear cat shaped figure and a rainbow of colors covering it. In the light on the booth, it sparkled like the sun. She was almost certain Kitania would love it. She approached the vendor quickly, in a hurry to get out of the fast darkening streets and on to get something to eat. "Can I see that one please?" She had dropped any sign of excitement before approaching. She knew better to let a merchant know she was actually interested. She kept her tone cool and detached as she turned the ring from side to side, examining. It was a fake, but she wasn't sure if the vendor would know she knew. It was still shiny, and Kitania would still love it, but it certainly wasn't priceless. She replaced the ring and picked up a book. Some kind mystery, not her favorite kind of book, but perhaps a good indicator of how the merchant would price things. "How much?" She asked holding it up for the merchants inspection. "That book would be ten jewels Madame. And zat ring you like so much would be forty. If you are interested in both, I will let you take them for forty jewels, total. Is zis acceptable to you Madame?" It honestly wasn't a bad price on either, and she handed to money over gladly. In return the woman handed her a ridiculously small bag with the ring in it and the book she just held. "Merci Madame. Is there anything else I can assist you with this lovely evening?" Inara looked around, still feeling a bit lost. She wouldn't be able to catch a train to anywhere she wanted to go at this time of night. "Could you direct me to somewhere with good food?" The woman gave simple enough directions and Inara followed the implicitly. The sights and sounds of a street full of restaurants--not to mention the smells-- was rather overwhelming. She was hungry, but not starving and she had no desire to sit down anywhere and eat. So she eyed the street vendors as she walked, her thoughts on possibilities, and honestly a little bit on Kitania and how excited she would be when she got her present. So of course, she was somewhat less than surprised when she ran into someone. A blue haired woman with brown eyes stood above Inara, as Inara had gone sprawling, her rear hitting the pavement and her new things falling to the ground. Inara stood, smiling a little and blushing. "I'm So sorry. I didn't mean to. Are you all right?" She picked up the book, and the ring bag carefully. "I do sincerely apologize." She gave her best attempt at a smile and hoped the woman wouldn't be hurt or angry. Edited by Inara Serra, May 9 2014, 01:22 PM.

The air was growing rich with the scents of nearby eateries. Something sweet smelling was invading her nostrils now, chocolate maybe? That sounded especially delicious to the summoner. The sweet allure of chocolate never really grabbed onto someone until it's thought about. Chocolate with peanut butters and almonds was just too mouth-watering. The sweet, rich flavor of chocolate added with the smooth creaminess of peanut butter and the perfect crunch from the almonds was enough to make anyone's stomach plummet to E on its fuel meter. Once the idea got in your head it grew even more as the young mage thought about adding coconut shavings under the chocolate was the next step. At this point the summoner just had to have some chocolate. Astria didn't even like chocolate that much on a regular basis, but now that this perfect image of tantalizing sweets were in her head, her stomach demand it. Still in the book section of the market, it seemed that the aromas were coming from the next street over. Unfortunately the street she was on lacked the kind of quick and convenient short cuts that would take her over there in two seconds flat. Here she was forced to go down and around the street to get to the delicious scents. Annoying imagination, getting in the way of her hunt for a new book to read and instead getting her distracted. Food wasn't really a huge distraction as it was essential to survival and all that jazz, but this wasn't just eating food to live. This was eating food to live! Half way down the street she started to move with a quick stride as the image of a chocolate, coconut, almond, peanut butter combination was again improved with the addition of cookie dough chunks being inside it. Yes, at this point the image was similar to a bar of gold, only a bit slimmer then that and instead of gold was the chocolate. It was odd for someone who was as usually harmonious as Astria to be so engrossed with this chocolate scent, but only someone whose had a piece as delicious as this could understand the kind of scent and grasp a single warm and moist piece could have over a person. It was the zenith of chocolate. The best flavors combined to the climax piece which was this sweet right across the street. Astria was coming to the end of the street where all the stalls in the area started to mix together. Though there wasn't, at least to her knowledge, any set system for how the booths were to be lined there was some general consensus that this area was where the book stalls went. Though there was the gray area, like up ahead, where it wasn't clear where anything ended and stalls got mixed together. This probably didn't cause any real issue as if you were looking for something you are already in the area of it. Near the end of the street she was at there were jewelry booths, displaying eccentric golden pendents with onyx and jade stones lined in the piece. An elderly couple were both adoring and regarding it with a lot of praise. Astria wasn't more then about twenty or thirty feet away from it and even from there she could spot that the thing was as fake as 'Skyopollis and the Six Clouds', a book that was supposed to have been written by Jane Yarina, but the writing style and diction was just too different for critics and the impersonators were exposed. In any case the necklace was fake and the fox faced merchant was going to swindle the couple out of more money then they had, probably. Though her stomach protested, Astria veered off to the right and came right up to the couple. "Excuse me you two. You both seem to be wonderful people and yes you are right to think that necklace is wonderfully crafted. The only issue is that it was crafted by cheap products," On the last word Astria yanked the piece out of his hand and held it with disgust. Now that it was in her hands she could more easily tell what a fake this thing was. The gold chain felt like it was made out of tinfoil that was spray painted into a gold color. Though using the term gold to describe it was more then exaggerating as this was probably about as fake as one could get with the color gold. "Feel the chain, it isn't anywhere near sturdy enough to be called gold. And the stones here in the pendent are too perfectly cut to be real. Jade and onyx could not be reduced to the tiny slivers you see here and still have this vibrancy to them." Astria held the chain out for the couple to feel for themselves while she ran her finger over the fake stones in the pendent. Practically on touch the strips of colored paper started to curl up and with a small tug, the summoner took off a piece of "real jade stone" and held it for the couple to see. "I'm sorry to say it, but this man has been trying to sell you a fake." By this point the fox faced man's face was a scarlet color of anger and was Astria thought he was going to lunge over the table when she started to talk about the stones, which would have been impressive because from the way it appeared he barely fit back there as it was. Astria tossed the "golden" pendent with "real stones" down on his stand. The couple thanked her for stopping them from purchasing such a phoney piece of jewelry. "It's no problem. It could be convincing if you didn't know what to look for." She informed them of a few simple ways to tell if something if really real or not. The lovely pair walked off to another stand and Astria's hunger returned after a satisfied grin from a good deed done. Continuing her quick pace to the delicious food, with each stride the smell grew stronger. She practically had tunnel vision now, a goal was somewhat in her sights as she could tell the general location of the restaurant she was looking for from the scent. No more distractions! Stay focused on the delicious meal that is almost in your mouth! Astria kept telling herself so that she could hurry and fill this hunger that had grown ever since that one whiff. Next time she made her way through the area she would have to be sure to do this in reverse order. Eat and then shop for books. Moving quickly, Astria found herself accidentally bumped into by another woman. Pausing from having been forced to stumble a bit, the mage caught herself and steadied out to see a gorgeous blonde woman apologizing to her. "Oh, it's not a probl-" Astria stopped mid-sentence as her eyes saw the words "Lost Love" and that was all she needed for her to make an abrupt stop. The woman in front of her had a particularly interesting book. The exterior wasn't in the best shape, but that could translate to "well read" and that was a good sign. The book was one of her personal favorites and she had read it way before it became popular and turned into three different lacrima pictures. Tragic story really, but the author had such a way with words, indescribable really. Facing the woman holding the book Astria had a smile of approval on her face. "That book right there is a good one. Is it your or did you get it that way?" |

Inara smiled again. "Actually it was like this when I bought it.Glad to know it wasn't a waste of jewels though" The blue haired woman seemed to really like the looks of the book. She thought about offering to give it to her, but she assumed she probably had a copy, if she liked it that much. Well, it might be worth a read after all. She looked around the food stalls. So many choices, so much to look through and at, she wasn't sure that she would ever be able to choose what she would have. "I'm Inara Serra by the way. It's very nice to meet you. I wonder.." She looked around again, feeling small and lost and a little trapped. after all, there wasn't a tree in sight. "I wonder if you know this town very well? I've got to find food, and then a inn for the night. If you could give me directions it would be very much appreciated." Her stomach growled without her permission, making her blush a little. She hadn't eaten since the train left the station at Mongolia. The sights an sounds of this night market were still assaulting her senses and there was a man hawking obviously fake wares. She looked to the other side and decided that perhaps something quick was in order. Traffic through the little streets was certainly picking up and she was wondering if perhaps the night market of Oshibana didn't bloom into something less savory when the sun went down. She sincerely disliked being short. She couldn't see quite everything around her for the press of the crowd. She really was hungry but she was fairly certain that she wouldn't be interested in hanging around this particular area for much longer. She though perhaps somewhere where she could sit inside, or maybe even just an inn where she could order food would be a good plan. She wasn't used to the press of bodies. Not even in Magnolia had she felt quite like she did on this narrow street surrounded by strangers. She relegated the fact that Alistair had been with her in Magnolia to the back of her mind. That shouldn't matter she reminded herself. "I really am sorry I ran you over. I was too busy looking at the stalls I suppose." She smiled again. " If you don't have a copy," She said, holding up the book. "I will give you this one,for showing me around." |

"Oh definitely not. If anything it's a modern classic." Astria explained, reassuring Inara that her money hadn't been wasted by any means. "I'm Astria. Nice to meet you as well." Astria smiled at the woman and heard her stomach growl quite loudly. Chuckling a bit in response, Astria made a joke about her being hungry. "Well I suppose a restaurant is in order." Astria was listing each of the places off with her fingers until she just gave up on that. With all these options it was actually more difficult to choose since she could eat here, but over there has this and that and so on an so forth. Really just a cycle of choices to go through that was making her more hungry as she read the lists of food they offered. "Oh don't worry about the book. You should keep it. I've already read it a dozen times over and my family has a copy in the bookstore somewhere," Astria smiled and brushed away Inara's attempts and paying her with the book. "I was on my way to find some food as well, and since food always tastes better with company, feel free to come along with me." Astria could hardly remember a meal she had where having people with her didn't feel great. Exquisite bakery treats with Mihairi and all their summons to simple meals out in the middle of the woods with Yang and some tree spirits, they were all able to taste better with company. Not to mention, Astria would hardly want to leave a woman alone in an unfamiliar town. That was just asking for trouble. "I'll decide on a place to eat real fast." The mage spoke while closing her eyes and spinning in a circle a few times. Decisively pointing in a random direction, Astria opened her eyes and waited a moment for them to stop spinning around in her head. "That one; lets go there." Astria said to Inara as she pointed to a place called Quinn's. On the outside it already seemed super eccentric. The sign was composed of a red and black jester's hat with the words written in cursive neon red. The entrance had two jesters posing with sinister smiles on either side of the doorway. Really the exterior screamed that inside had an insane clown theme to it, but Astria choose it and was going to stick with it no matter what. Walking up to the door, she felt like the clown's eyes were following her and that sent a shiver down her spine. Attempting to ignore that she opened the door and went inside. |

OOC Inara followed Astria to the door of the restaurant. She didn't have much of a problem with clowns but these were .... Off. She could have sworn their eyes moved as they both approached, though nothing strange happened as Astria opened the doors. Inside the decor was just as strange as the lettering on the sign had suggested it would be. There were booths lining one wall, covered in bright red or black material. The floor was made up of large diamond shaped tiles, the pattern going crazily from red to white to black never quite in the same order. The walls were haphazardly painted as well, within the same color scheme, but in varying stripes of the colors, none of which it appeared to her had been let dry before the next color was applied. Globes of dripping paint had dried to make the walls look as though they were melting wax. "This is um...interesting." Inara tried to sound cheerful, but the truth was the creepy feeling she had gotten at the door had only intensified upon entering the place. There didn't seem to be anyone about the place, and Inara could not hear anyone moving around. There were certainly no customers.the place was empty except for themselves, and hopefully a cook or waiter. Still, she didn't think Astria was planning on leaving, and she wasn't going to leave her here alone. Instead she slid into a booth and picked up what she thought was a menu, though the writing was just as strange as that on the storefront and it was hard for Inara to read it in a smaller version. She saw something that resembled the word eggs and put it down. She would just ask a waiter if one ever showed up. Being herself she didn't let the atmosphere of the place get her down much."So, your family owns a bookstore? That must be lovely. I love to read actually."She glanced around the place again, the feeling of unease growing stronger. She heard a sound, and turned to see a Diamond shaped door opening in the wall. A woman in a strange outfit, with more of those annoying diamond patterns, came skating over. Yes. She was wearing roller skates. And her head was crowned with a jesters cap, bells jingling as she moved. Her face was painted in a clowns mask, and she stopped abruptly upon reaching their table. "I am Quinn. Owner and operator."She interrupted herself with a strange laugh. "What can I get you lovely ladies today? And please remember before you order, I will be cooking as well. The simpler the order, the quicker you get it." The woman laughed again. Inara raised an eyebrow. This was strange indeed. She wondered what exactly they had managed to stumble into, and why this woman was laughing like she was absolutely mad. |

OOC It was a seat yourself type of place and there were plenty of places to sit. The business wasn't empty by far, but the exterior was clearly misleading as the room inside it was so vast. Amazing what one can accomplish with a little space management. The inside decor was still just has creepy as the exterior would lead one to believe. A very evident theme of psycho clowns was present and Astria had to question the sanity of the designer just a bit. Whoever thought that having clowns with bloodthirsty grins staring at you while you ate was a good idea clearly had some kind of mixed up wiring. Still despite that the place stayed busy. Astria took a quick look around the room, this time only focusing on the people there. Not to her surprise she saw mainly groups of teens and young adults. They were loud and made a lot of hand gestures as they spoke. It was a little funny to watch, but just from what she could slightly overhear their conversations weren't really something a family would want to hear. Still when you considered who they were aiming this place for it made perfect sense. This kind of thing seemed to fit them just fine. Going to the walls of the restaurant Astria walked passed the red and white checkerboard tables and the similar pattern on the booths. Finding an empty one on the end of the left side of the business Astria slid into the booth with a wall to its extravagantly designed back. The booth was a red vinyl for the seat and a wooden back with crazy little cut outs above her head. The table in front of them was like those of the normal tables, but with a smaller table cloth and fake flowers and menus put to the closed side of the booth. Taking a seat with Inara, Astria had to admit that though initially creapy beyond measure, the clowns were growing on here; in a good way. She found herself able to stomach them and given the theme and additional decor of the restaurant it was easy to see how they all worked together splendidly. "Yeah, my parent's own a bookstore in Onibas. My mother makes little homemade things that sometimes sell decently well." Astria spoke with a bit of pride about this. She was always proud to be from such a place in Fiore and even more proud that her parents had set up one of the shops in Onibas. It definitely wasn't easy to keep a business going given all the competition, but they did it and Astria immensely respected them for that. "I don't actually see them too much these days though. I'm actually a traveler myself. Kind of an aimless wanderer you could say. I suppose you could also say I'm traveling to see all the different kinds of books and spirits I can acquire. Hmm... I guess it's just fun to travel around in general. You get to see so much more of the world that way. What about yourself?" Astria revealed a bit about herself to Inara, aiming to simply be friends with the girl and so a bit of small talk was to be expected. Just as Astria inquired a bit about Inara, their waitress came to the table. Well, rather, she skated over to them. Unaware of this place being some kind of roller disco, Astria was surprised when the woman dressed in a jester's leotard and hat with bells was able to move so easily in the skates. Doing a little spin on her way over to take their order, Astria was so stunned that she fumbled on opening up her menu. Looking up and down the menu quickly, Astria aimed to find something quick and easy, as instructed by their waitress, because based on the crazy clown theme it would be best if there was little room for error. The dishes here all had some kind of circus of jester type name to them and while slightly amusing it was a bit distracting to her imagination to try and visualize what a "Big Top Performance" came with. In her head she saw them bringing out a plate with a miniature big top and inside it was an assortment of food that would be staged as if they were circus performers, but surely the means to get this done would take too much time to make sense to eat and for that matter the things they would have to put into it to make food stand in a certain way would take away from the flavor. Things like the "Small Car Burgers" were a bit simpler to think about, but she now had the expectation of the burgers being brought out in the shape of tiny vehicles, that would be a pretty nice plus visually, Well she didn't even know this place too well and whether or not the food here was actually decent was beyond her. Might as well stick with something safe. Looking at the "Cheddar Jester" she figured that no one could mess up a burger with cheddar cheese on it. "Uh, yes, uh, I'll have the Cheddar Jester and a glass of water, please." Astria managed to stumble out her words at which the woman, Harley, managed to scribble down on a little clipboard of hers before turning towards Inara to hear what she wanted to eat. |

Inara smiled at Harley. "Ill take the jesters greens salad please. And water." She hoped very much that the cook/waitress turned psycho looking clown couldn't manage to screw that up too terribly. Then again, if she did, it was highly likely Inara would eat it anyway. She was too hungry to go in for being picky. Shopping did tend to increase ones appetite exponentially. At least in her experience. She looked around the restaurant again, seeing the strange denizens for the first time. She wasn't sure how she had missed them to start with. Probably because the lighting had cast deep shadows over most of the restaurant. She shook her head. It wasn't something she would normally miss in any case, but she turned back to Astria, smiling, ignoring her oversight. "I left home to get out of an arranged marriage. And I've been wandering Fiore since then. It really is a lovely way to meet new people and see new things. What kind of trinkets does your mother make? I might look the shop up sometime if I make it to Onibas." She almost envied the pride with which Astria talked about her family and her home. But she let it go. No point in crying over spilled milk. Or she supposed sour milk when it came to what had been her home life. So she just smiled again and listened politely for the answer. She really was interested. A bookstore and trinkets sounded right up her ally shopping wise. I was shopping for a friend actually when I came upon the book. I wanted to get her something to cheer her up, and the book was thrown in as part of the deal. Though, I do look forward to reading it now." She had no idea why she had randomly thrown that into the conversation. It had seemed to just slip out. She heard a commotion in the direction of the kitchen. Lots and pans clanging, dishes breaking, and exceptionally loud cursing. This elicited a round of snickers from the current clientele. Inara sighed. So the food would most definitely be wrong. Either that or it would take even longer for the waitress to get it out to them. She gave a mental shrug. She couldn't fix it herself. She doubted the owner would appreciate her attempt. She felt like a sore thumb sticking out in this place already. The teenagers who surrounded the tables and booths of the restaurant looked far too wild for her tastes. She was used to being with people more like, well, more like Astria or Kit. She turned away from the crowd, not wishing to draw undue attention to herself. They looked like they would be trouble to her."So what brings you to Oshibana if you don't mine my asking?" She smiled again. But before Astria could answer Harley came skating back out, a tray held above her head. She set down two glasses of water, and placed Inara's salad before her. She didn't say anything, just pursed her lips to keep from laughing and raised a questioning eyebrow at the waitress. "Ran out of tomatoes. I'm sure it will taste the same though. Probably better." The woman actually said it with a straight face, so Inara just smiled and picked up the form to start stirring the salad. It would be her first salad with ketchup as a substitute for tomatoes, though the rest looked normal enough. She looked over at Astria, wondering if her order gone strangely wrong as well. |

Astria went on to explain to Inara that the things her mother made were pretty trivial. Mostly small things like bookmarks or perhaps just unique looking metal pieces, almost everything made by her was from metal and so the colorful bends and twists usually caught people's eyes. It also helped that she carefully lined it all up at the register to induce a sort of impulse buying from customers. Whenever Astria thought about how much her mother loved money, namely being paid money, it was enough to almost make her laugh. A real frugal woman, Astria's mom pinched penny after penny and was quite the haggler/con-artist depending on who was talking. Naturally she would never just have someone overpay, but her mother was quite the expert at up-selling and getting people to buy lots more than they had come for originally. Sometimes Astria really envied her mother's sociability and people skills, the summoner herself didn't exactly have that same level of expertise, but at the same time she wouldn't really sulk on not having them. She could talk to people just fine and have a good time, not need to be a "social butterfly" as far as the blue-haired woman was concerned. Listening to Inara's own story, Astria appreciated meeting a fellow traveler. Though having no strong roots in one place could be considered strange to some, only true traveler's could understand the pleasure and excitement from going to different places. The people you meet and the experiences had are the kind that you could never have just sitting around at home. Though not the decision for everyone, Astria was glad that despite her bookish nature and her sometimes shy personality, she had in her a natural drive to travel and see more sights. From the thousands to possibly millions of books Astria had read in her life time, not one prose writing or flavorful description could describe the scenery she had seen, the emotions she felt, nor the bonds she had made. Astria was a bibliophile through and through and absolutely buying, reading, and reliving experiences in other books, but in real life words were just not enough to describe such intangible things, but that was alright. It was due to their splendor and the magnitude of impact they had on her that made them so indescribable anyway. That was when the commotion from the kitchen rang loudly, the clang and clatter of pots and pans echoing throughout the entire establishment. Astria chuckled a little bit at the bit of comedy present. The waitress had warned them right at the beginning that their order may be wrong or just not as right as it could/should have been, so this was really just an expectation. Moving on from that, Astria had to think about why exactly she was in Oshibana currently. Not given a real chance to respond, Astria was interrupted by the waitress that skated her way over to their table, Inara's salad in hand. Or at least Astria thought it was a salad. It certainly looked like a salad, but most salads didn't have ketchup squirted on them. Giggling a bit at the reasoning for it, Astria had to admire their problem solving ability. In a sense ketchup was just a liquidized tomato, though they hardly went together. "Well that is different. Maybe it's actually better this way? Like the waitress said?" Astria spoke, trying to optimistic about the ketchup covered salad. Figuring she should still answer Inara's question, it was only polite, Astria had to think for a moment. "Hmm, really just more traveling. I suppose I am looking for certain relics, but that applies to every place I go really. I knew the shops here were bustling and busy, similar to my own Onibas, but I would have to say that Lotus Street has this place beat by a long shot." Astria answered, always ready to give credit where credit is due, but making sure to keep it in line with her own hometown. Onibas just couldn't be outclassed as a place for shopping, it had it all and then some. Basically if it existed and wasn't somewhere in Lotus Street, then it didn't exist. Astria noticed a few more plates being delivered to other tables, but eventually, after many pots and pans were banged around in the kitchen, Astria had her burger delivered to her. Everything seemed to be in order with her order, but she wouldn't really know until she took the first bite. Trying to size it up, even peaking under the bun to see if there was anything suspicious, Astria couldn't find anything obviously out of whack with it, so she bite into it. Carefully chewing her food, waiting for something surprising to suddenly pop, like maybe there was a spicy pepper in it, or maybe it was made out of paper or something. Nothing popped at her, nothing was a surprise, in fact the burger was pretty good and made her want to take more bites into it. Actually surprised that there was nothing to be surprised about, Astria took a few more bites out of her meal before mentioning to Inara that it was quite delicious! "Hey folks!" The sound of the owner of the restaurant was heard over some PA system hidden in the ceiling and instantly Astria had a bad feeling. "As I'm sure most of you have been waiting for, its that time for our signature special: WHAT IS IN MY FOOD!?" The woman chuckled a bit, and Astria could hear excitement in the rest of the customers. Evidently they had planned for this and were excited for it. "Well this time we've prepared a little something special for you loveable clowns! We've added in a special elixir as we cooked up your chow and shortly you should begin to find yourselves polymorphed into.... ANIMALS!" That was all that was mentioned before the speakers cut off and the group of people were cheering and jeering with excitement, wondering about which animal they would be. |

Honesty without tact is cruelty.

Inara had been eating her salad, somewhat surprised that it did taste fairly good with the ketchup on it. Apparently Astria's burger was also yummy. Inara could say for sure she was delightfully surprised...until the announcement sounded over the PA system. Inara dropped her form with a loud clatter, eyeing the cheering patrons. She shook her head slightly, not quite able to believe that someone would pay to be polymorphed into anything. She looked at the mage across from her. "Shes not serious is she?" Of course Astria would hardly know if their mad hostess would do such a thing or not. But Inara had a sneaking suspicion that she would. She had thought the woman was trouble earlier. She sighed heavily. Her first instinct was to boot, find the safety or an inn. But she doubted very much that she would make it to one before the elixer took its toll, and being alone and scared in the middle of the streets was unacceptable. Still, some sort of hiding place would become necessary if she.... And then she felt it, a slight tingling running through her body, a knot in the pit of her stomach. The other customers were already moaning in pain, no doubt having had their food much earlier. Within a span of seconds she heard a chorus of small pops like someone popping several bubbles simultaneously. Half the crowd was already changed. Th he animals varied greatly. A snake, a rabbit, a jackass, she had no doubt that they could become quite nearly anything. Still, the animals didn't quite do animalistic things. They more looked like overly intelligent animals, learning to control their own limbs (or lack thereof). There was nothing overly threatening about them at first, and she looked to Astria, a question on her lips. "I wonder how long this will last?" All she could tell for certain, was that she was changing. And that the others showed no signs of changing back. With an sharp pain, and a cry, Inara became other. She could see differently, and the light hurt her eyes immensely. She could still wonder what she was, which she thought was a good sign. She felt turned her head, to see if she could see Astria, and was surprised when it spun completely around. Stretching her arms out, she saw large wings, and her feet were large talons. Hurting light, head turning completely around, feathers and talons. She tried to sigh but it came out as more of a soft hoot. All right. So she was an owl. Now where was her friend and how long would this nonsensical spell last. She wasn't much for turning into a predator. |
