Daisuke and Toshiro had made there way from Oak Town to Oshibana Town, following the red light in the sky they were lead here. They had made it here as soon as they could, they needed to, after all the spirits were recovering, but that wasn't what they were afraid of as much as were of the method they were using to recover. The spirits used their power to trap innocent people in a hidden dimension, and slowly absorb the people's life force until they were killed, but not after living through a long miserable life of constant hope that they could be freed and leave the prison they were trapped in. Dai and Toshiro made a promise to stop the spirits once and for all, and to do that they were going to track the spirits and end their reign one by one.

Their first stop was Oshibana Town, where the red spirit had made itself had home. The two were still unaware of the damage the spirit had caused. They walked into town quite weary, at least Dai did. The two were going to stop the spirit, sure, but they needed to take a little break first and get a little grub. Dai's stomach grumbled. "We should probably get something to eat," he said. Nimbus was also tired, his body resting on Dai's head. They walked by a small diner. "This place will do the trick. Let's get a quick bite and get back to business."

Walking into the diner, the first thing they noticed was that it wasn't very busy. It was almost noon, so you'd expect for there to be more people. "Excuse me," Dai called.

The server behind the counter replied. "Sorry, but unless you want to eat food made by a terrible cook, you'd best go find yourself somewhere else to eat."

Dai smiled. "What kind of diner boasts of a terrible cook?"

"It's not like our cook was always crappy, but after the old guy went missing it was difficult to find a replacement."

"Missing?"

"Yeah, not even the knights know where he is. They just assume he left town, but all his stuff is still at his house, and none of his money was taken."

Dai immediately realized what was going on. This must have been the spirits doing. It had already managed to kidnap someone ... but wait, what if there are more?

"Has there been any other cases like your cook's; where someone went missing in such a mysterious way?"

The man paused. "Now that you mention it, lately there have been a few cases of people going missing."

"Can you tell me where I can go to find out who else might have gone missing?"

"Well the Knights HQ, they probably have a record."

"Thanks," Dai said turning to Toshiro. "I guess we'll have to eat later."

After the events that unfold in Oak Town, the two followed the red trail left behind by the spirits on the sky. Toshiro know more about travelling but he never did expect the distance they must move to reach their destination. So before leaving the town, Toshiro did brought some rations that could be used for the trip. Though, Toshiro does know how to survive in the wild so he just set these rations aside in case of emergencies.

Following the path towards south, they soon arrived at Oshibana Town. They had walked for a while now and Dai suggested they should rest for a bit and have some meal in some diner. Toshiro didn't really reject the idea since they did travel a long time now and having a good cooked meal isn't that bad of an idea.

"Sure why not." Toshiro respond as he could only puff smoke from a small pipe in his mouth. It is a long trip so he could use his pipe rather than waste his cigarettes. Who knows if he might need his cigarettes later on or if he could replenish it. Seeing that they could get transported anytime anywhere, one might not know he could get a fresh batch. So for now while travelling, Toshiro is using a small pipe to smoke. Besides, he did find some tobacco leaves on their way to the town so he has some to spare.

Heading towards the nearest diner, the two would soon first notice that there aren't much people there. Well it could be that they aren't that popular or that they are having a bad day right? Entering the diner, Dai made the first initiative and inform the establishment of their presence. It seemed that the place isn't entirely empty as the servers are still there and immediately respond to the call. Basically the servers there isn't particularly positive about their situation as he quickly mentioned about their bad food.

Toshiro wondered about that as Dai asked the question first. It seemed that their cook is missing. Hearing this strangely familiar scenario, Dai decided let them elaborate some more about the topic regarding other people missing. Hearing about it, Toshiro could say that this might be a similar instance where it could be connected with the spirits. The server soon told them that they could find the records of missing people with the knights as they have list them all down in their HQ.

"Alright." Toshiro said as he left the diner with Dai. Once outside, Toshiro did wonder about the possibilities of spirits and how could they encounter them once more. "So what do you think? Do you think its them?" Toshiro said casually to Dai in a low tone that only they could hear.

"It's gotta be them, but I guess we won't know for sure until we check with the knights."

Dai wasn't really feeling that hungry anymore. He felt more focused on the fact that the spirits had already started kidnapping innocent people to take advantage of and torment. Dai really pushed his legs forward as he walked to the knight HQ. It wasn't long before they were at their doorstep.

Dai walked in and immediately asked the first knight he saw. "Where can I find out about recently missing people?" Dai wasn't normally the demanding type, and he would have normally asked politely, but he was determined.

The knight was off put by the sudden query. He gave the mage a quizzical look. "Why? Are you searching for someone in particular?"

"No, I need to know who went missing in the time between today and a few days ago. I've heard rumors that the numbers are unusually high for such a short time. I've also heard that there isn't very much evidence to learn how they had gone missing." Daisuke might have exaggerated the information he had received earlier from the diner, but if what he was predicting was true than the culprit was none other than the spirits.

The knight was surprised at how much he knew. "One moment, I'll bring the files. Are you investigating the disappearances?"

"Yes," Dai looked at Toshiro. "We are."

The knight left to the back room to retrieve the files. While the two waited a woman alked up to them. It was apparent on her face that she had been crying. "Can you two find my son?" she asked desperately.

"Has he gone missing?"

The mother was holding back tears. "I-I don't know how he could have ... he's always cooped up in his room playing video games. One day I opened his room and he was gone ... the game was still on. There's no way he would leave on his own ... a-and I don't know anyone who would want to kidnap him. He's just a teenager, he barely has any friends ... I just ... "

Daisuke realized that this must have been the spirit's doing. They can after all transport people to the hidden dimension without really needing to move them.

"Calm down, it'll be alright. We'll find your son."

Toshiro and Dai made their way out of the diner and proceed to head towards the knight headquarters where they will inquire about the recent disappearance in the area. They weren't hungry anymore after hearing what is happening on the area, who would be. On their way, Toshiro asked Dai about his opinion on the matter as he wondered if this incident could be pretty similar to the incident that happened in Oak Town a few days earlier. Dai respond to his question as he pretty much has the same conclusion as Toshiro, this could be them but they needed more proof to be sure.

Without any delay, the two made their way towards the knight headquarter. Opening the headquarters' door, Toshiro and Dai entered the establishment as they quickly approached the nearest knight. Toshiro would look around the place and took notice of the many people gathering there. Either there is a gathering/party there or all of these people are here to report a similar incident. The two were lucky enough to found a knight who managed to entertain them as Dai quickly asked about the recent disappearing incident.

"Don't worry, I assure you we are here to help." Toshiro said to one of the knight's questions wondering about their intentions for wanting to see the disappearance report. There were a bit of questions but soon enough they managed to get the knight to assist them. This could very well be the spirit's work.

As the two are waiting for the return of the knight, a woman walked up to them who seemed very distressed. One could see that she has been crying the entire time and she has been there in the knight's headquarter for a long time now. She have overheard about Toshiro and Dai's conversation with the knight and did hear they are here to help out with the investigation. She must be at her wits end and just want to ask anyone possible that can help her out.

Upon giving her statement, she really is in distressed about the disappearance of her son who simply vanished with no reason at all. There is no reason or clue for the disappearance as the son just vanished in his room with his playing console still one. It is indeed a weird incident that could only be explained by the spirit's involvement.

"Relax ma'am. We will do our best to find your son at any cost." Toshiro said as he tried to calm the woman down. Turning towards Dai, it looked like the man might have the very same conclusion as he has that this is the work of the spirits. Only problem though, if these are the work of the spirits then how can they find it or even return to its dimension once more?

The woman seemed to calm down after the two reassured her that they were going to do everything in their power to bring her son back home, safe and sound. The knight returned a few moments later with a stack of papers.

"These are the files on the missing people from two days ago up until now," he said placing them on the counter in front of them. "There have been four reported." He opened the first file, the picture of a relatively overweight man was in profile. "A popular cook, from the diner just down the street from here. He was the first to be reported." The knight then opened the second file, the picture of a woman in profile was shown, she was rather attractive. "A model that worked for the local magazine," he frowned. "The owner of the magazine stirred up quite the riot when he came in to report her missing. She was reported just a little after the cook." The knight then opened the third file, showing the picture of a young man.

"That's my son," the woman said. "He disappeared yesterday. I reported him right away."

The knight then opened the last file, it didn't have a picture. "The last person was reported today, though the time of his disappearance might have been earlier," the knight sighed. "We don't have a picture because his face has never been seen before, but the man is always seen in the same place everyday. The fact that he wasn't there for two days in a row brought up the suspicion that he might have also gone missing, though we don't know for sure."

"Thank you, you've been a great help in this investigation," Dai said firmly. "However, we're going to need to survey the city to make sure there hasn't been anymore unreported disappearances."

"Do you know your way around town? I'd be glad to be of assistance, if you need a navigator. I hate standing around her doing nothing."

"That would be great. Please do," Dai smiled.

"We should probably start with the slums, since the richer part of town would be more inclined to seek aid in the knights. The same can't be said for people from the slums. It's we're most petty criminals live, after all."

Dai didn't particularly like hearing the knight comment about the slums in such a way, even if he was right. He really hated how the rich would allow for their to be such a poor side of town and not try to help the people who are less fortunate. That wasn't what Dai came here to do though, he was here to stop the spirit that kidnapped the four innocent people, not look into the issue of poverty that plagued this town. It wasn't his place, but he couldn't help but feel responsible, as the knight lead them through the garbage ridden streets of the slums.

"Mommy, I'm hungry," a small boy cried out.

Two women were talking to each other, as their children played in the street. "I wonder why the free food stopped coming?" the first said.

"Maybe the guy that delivers it died or something," she replied.

"Don't say that, how else are we supposed to feed our kids. It's not like their fathers are going to."

Dai overheard their conversation. "Excuse me, have you heard of anyone going missing the past two days?"

One of the women was holding a cigarette between her fingers. "Plenty of people go missing around these parts,"

"Why would you rich folk care about anyone going missing down here anyway?" the second said, as she let out a breath of smoke. Her baby sleeping in her lap.

"Come on," the knight said. "They won't be of any help."

Dai was frustrated. He wanted to help, but he had a more pressing issue at hand. "Okay."

Toshiro did his best to help calm the woman down. He could understand how the woman is feeling right now, losing someone she cared about and not knowing what happened to them, Toshiro knows. Still, there is no use worrying like that as Toshiro and Dai, also possibly the knights, would do their best to handle the situation. All they could do right now is provide the authorities the needed clues and story and probably let them do their job to find a way to located these missing people and find them as soon as they could.

The woman soon calmed down after Toshiro's words, which the smoke mage is glad she did. It didn't take long before the knight returned with a bunch of folders and papers in bundles as he placed them all on top of the counter. There he started to grab some documents as Toshiro himself take a peek from all of the other documents there. So far they are all missing people files and according to the knight, there are a total of four missing people have been reported though there could be more.

One of the missing people is a popular cook in the area, followed by a female model of the local magazine, a young man who seemed to be the son of the woman earlier and lastly who was just reported today and has no image yet to be seen. Toshiro took a glance on some of the documents the knight shown and there are details there regarding the report done to the knight. The missing person's name, age, address and even when they were noted to have disappeared are written there along with the people who reported it. They might need to examine each of those eventually and see if there is a pattern to their disappearance.

Dai respond to the knight as the knight did mentioned that there could be more disappearance in the place that hasn't been reported yet. Still Toshiro do wonder if there is any pattern or connection to the disappearance.

"Excuse me but is there any connection or pattern when or where these people gone missing?" Toshiro said questioning the knight if they have tried to get a map of the town and mark where and when the victim disappeared. Still with only four victims, it might not be enough to find a particular pattern unless it is just a coincidence.

In the end, they might need to go around the town to check other disappearance that hasn't been reported yet. The knight soon offered his assistance to them to guide them around the area. Well having a guide should make their investigation faster as they could learn more about the area. The three soon made their way towards the slums area of the town. Toshiro himself couldn't help but feel a bit nostalgic at the area as he has been here before. It isn't exactly a peaceful memory as his previous visit in Oshibana has more of a destructive element into it as he was task to take down someone.

As they go through the streets, they could hear some rumors and gossip around about some disappearance. Might be a clue?

Toshiro stepped up as he himself puffed the same amount of smoke from his mouth, possibly much more, before responding to the woman. "We are not exactly from around here but we would like to investigate these missing people incident." Toshiro said as he tried his best if he could communicate with the two.

"The only connection we've been able to establish is that these disappearances have all occurred recently, within the last two days at the most. It's why I was so surprised when you two barged in and asked about them. The information still wasn't open to the public, because we didn't want anyone to think they were in trouble too until we had more evidence," the knight said in reply to Toshiro's question. "There isn't any indication that the disappearances are happening to any certain demographic, nor are they clustered in any particular area. We have yet to learn if there are anything in common between the missing people when it comes to their psychological states, in part because we don't have any information regarding it. However, I have a hunch that they might all have some kind of condition, maybe depression."

"That could be it," Dai thought putting his hand over his mouth. Once he gave it a little thought, it seemed logical to assume they all had some type of mental condition, and that might be why they were targeted by the spirits. It stands to reason, considering the spirits feed off of despair, or how they put it; the lack of hope.

The knight then stopped to talk to someone. "Just a sec, I'll be right back." After a few minutes he walked back to them. "That was an informant of mine, I asked him if he knew of any mysterious disappearances, but it seems like there's nothing out of the ordinary." The knight was almost disappointed to learn that.

"That's a good thing, sir," Dai said, to remind him what his priorities were. The knight seemed like he was yearning for adventure, and he had forgot that his job was to protect the people. "We'll be on our way now. Thank you very much for your help. We hope to be able to find an answer to where the missing people had gone, that is if we can't also bring them back in the process."

"I would be happy to continue helping you with your investigation. I'm quite capable, so you won't have to worry about having a burden."

Daisuke didn't want there to be any more innocent victims, but a knight's job is to help the people, so he didn't have a problem with the knight tagging along with them, even with the danger he was anticipating. If the knight was unable to handle the situations he was placed in, then that was his own misdoing, and Dai was only partially responsible.

"Very well. However, it will most likely only get more dangerous as we dig deeper."

"I don't want to sound insensitive, but I kind of hope so."

He did sound insensitive, and despite his moxie Dai was beginning to resent the way he was looking at this dilemma.

Daisuke's hand was in his pocket as they walked through town searching for answers. His fingers playing around with the crystal they had retrieved after the white spirit perished. when suddenly it began to heat up. Dai took it out of his pocket and to his surprise the crystal was glowing a bright red. Making the area around it just a little hotter. Dai looked over at Toshiro. "I think this is it," he then looked at the knight. "Brace yourself. What you're about to experience will likely be something utterly novel and equally terrifying."

The knight swallowed, as he grinned. "I'm ready."

The crystal then gave out a blinding flash, and for a few seconds they couldn't see a thing. When Dai came to, he saw Toshiro before him, standing in a field of scorched earth. Flames being spit out of the grounds many pours. The sky a blazing scarlet, crushing them with an incredible pressure of dry heat.

When the knight came to, he was standing where he was in town ... alone. "Where did they go?"

Dai looked at Toshiro with a grimace; the heat leaving him unable to fully open his eyes. "It seems it's just you and me, again," he said attempting to smile.

Well like what the knight said the people in the areas aren't much help even if Toshiro did try asking them a nice way. They have their heads wrapped around their own world that anything that does 't involved gossips or them directly, they won't entertain. Still the knight seemed very helpful to answer their questions regarding the incident. Toshiro did wonder if there are any connection or relation between the various people that disappeared. Like certain location or identity or anything where they could pinpoint where they could start. At first the knight couldn't say since they are in different places with no connection at all. All seemed lost until the knight gave a comment that it could be theor mental condition.

Hearing about it, Toshiro and Dai turned to one another as they seemed to have found a possible corelation to the current case. Seeing one's reaction, Toshiro could tell they are both thinking the very same thing. This might be the work of tbe spirits that are trying to once more feed on their victim's hope or something similar. With that in mind, it might be better if they do this on their own as they don't want any other else to get trapped like they did. As they said their farewells to the knight, the knight seemed wanted to help with the case as it looked like Toshiro and Dai might need his help.

Toshiro himself doesn't mind the knight's help as he did work with them before, though their attitudes towards mage is different as some doesn't like what mages does while others doesn't care. One would wonder what this knight's thoughts on mages. Before they could continue though, Dai have taken noticed something in his pocket. After pulling it out, Toshiro took motice of the familiar crystal left by the spirits in their earlier victory against them. Both of them doesn't know what is going on but soon they will find out. There was a sudden flash and the next thing they knew, Toshiro and Dai is in a different area.

The place is different compare to the one they have been before. Before they are still in the presence of the area they are previously with minor differences but this time they are in a scorched area with no traces of the original town there. Does this mean they are really in a different dimention? Looking at Dai he could hear him try to make light of the situation.

"Yeah I guess you are right, that is a good thing though but why are we the only ones transported here? It looked like it has something to do with that crystal we found. Also wasn't the knight with us? I do wonder why he wasn't dragged along with us?" Toshiro respond as he kept his sense up while examining his surroundings.

Standing in the heat, Dai looked around to see if there was anyplace they could take shade under. "I'm not sure," he replied. "maybe it has something to do with the fact that we were once trapped ourselves, but the knight wasn't." As Dai spoke he managed to spot a place that seemed cooler than the rest of the scorched land, a cave. He pointed to it. "Let's go check out what's inside that cave, it's a lot better than trying to navigate this desert. Maybe we'll find some water."

At first glance, the cave seemed to be only a few hundred meters away, but after walking for a while, it seemed like they were chasing a mirage. "We've been walking for forever now," Dai said, his mouth beginning to dry out. Dai stopped for a second. Nimbus was resting on top of his head, unable to carry himself in this unbearable heat. Dai scratched his head, pushing Nimbus a little bit, though it was enough for him to fall off. Dai quickly caught him, the poor fairy could barely flap its wings.

"That was close. Maybe I should have left you at the knight HQ, huh Nimnim?" Nimbus looked up at Dai with renewed energy, and a determined look. He picked himself up, flapping his little wings and flying up high. "Now there, no need to take it too seriously," Dai smiled.

Nimbus flew up, looking ahead to see that the cave was in fact there; it wasn't a mirage. So then, why weren't they getting any closer to reaching it? Nimbus looked around, and when he looked at what was behind them, he froze.

"What's going on? Did you find anything?" Dai's voice brought Nimbus back. He flew down as quickly as he could to alert them. "What is it?" he asked, with a concerned tone. Nimbus' face was painted with fear. The fairy pointed them in the direction of the cave. "What is it Nimnim?" Tugging at Dai's shirt, and urgency practically being yelled out as the fairy struggle to make them understand, Nimbus attempted to pull Daisuke toward the cave with all his strength.

Then Dai finally got the message. "Oh no," he said, as his face turned from concerned to distress. He looked at Toshiro. "We have to run." Dai grabbed Nimbus, and ran. He ran as fast as his legs allowed him. Looking ahead, he would see that they were getting closer to the cave. And with a last sprint, he reached the cave. Standing on solid ground, he looked back at the sand to find that it was moving. What Nimbus had seen was a large hole in the ground that was swallowing all the sand in it's way. If they hadn't made haste, who knows what could've happened.

"This is what you were trying to warn us about?" he asked. Nimbus nodded. "Well, that sure was close," he said, smiling wearily. He sighed a big breath of relief.

"I almost forgot how dangerous this place can be." Looking around, he would soon find that there was no way but into the cave. "Let's just hope there's some drinkable water in there. It was a mistake not making any prior preparations for this quest."

The heat is one thing one would noticed upon entering the environment aside from the obvious change in scenery. This isn't similar to what happened in Oak Town, their first encounter there with the spirit did transport them to a different dimension but it still has the same landscape and structure the original world possessed. This time, it looked like they have been transported to a different location or planet itself. Hot temperature, a scarlet sky, terrains one might see in an erupting volcano and nothing but rocks and fire in the area. One might even think they are in hell right now.

The smoke mage could only wipe the sweat on his forehead as he looked around puffing his pipe. The heat is indeed noticeable but one thing Toshiro always noticed first is the condition of the smoke he uses. So far his pipe is pretty much done right now as the man could only put it away for now. One might think that it could be inappropriate to smoke in such environment but for the smoke mage, it is a necessity. One isn't sure about the opponent they might encounter there and if the spirit they will encounter will be similar to the huge one they fought in Oak Town.

Putting away his pipe, Toshiro just now pulled out a cigarette stick while looking around the surroundings. So far, there is no danger around them for the time being but who knows for how long. No presence of other beings, creatures or humans, and one couldn't really pinpoint the exact danger in the environment due to the dangerous nature of the place. There seemed to be a volcano over the horizon, fire coming out on parts on the ground and a lot of rocky terrains.

As Toshiro tried to light a stick in the fire that comes out of the ground, Dai seemed to have noticed something, a cave. It isn't really that far of a walk as it is located in the rocky terrains. Seeing that it could be the only place they could take shelter in the fiery environment, the three soon made their way towards it. At first there doesn't seemed to be any problem but soon Toshiro started to sense something is not right. Dai also seemed to have noticed that there is something wrong in the area as they haven't even come close to the cave even though they have been walking constantly.

Dai's little companion soon flew up above them as it began to scout to see what lies ahead. Toshiro right now couldn't help but look around to see what could be this thing his gut feel is trying to warn him about. Toshiro knows of a problem but the question is where and what? The creature soon returned along with a news that would solidify Toshiro's fear. Dai soon warned them that they should run and head to the cave quickly as danger approaches. With that, Toshiro made his way towards the cave along with the three as they sprinted their way into the cave. It turn out that the ground was being swallowed and if they didn't reached the cave in time, they could have been buried alive.

"Seeing that we are still in this dimension, we should always keep our guard up. Who knows what kind of danger is around the corner... even here in this cave." Toshiro spoke up speaking his mind in the entire scenario. The smoke mage does agree on finding refreshments but they should also keep their guard up and be ready in case the water isn't drinkable. Still another thing that is good about the cave they are in, it isn't that hot there. Though upon looking deeper into the cave, it does look like it would lead them somewhere but where exactly?
