Fairy Tail Guild RP Current News

Hey everyone, it's me, your Lord and Savior, your Once and Future King, and your new Admin-for-Life Unlimit Sendo. I'm here to drop some turnbuckle-diving elbows and awesome news. There's been some relatively small updates to rulings regarding summon familiars and single summons. Additionally, there's also been a pretty big update in regards to the AP shop which reorganizes it and adds a ton of new stuff. You can find that in the AP Shop section under Item Creation. Check it out.

Mission Request Link

Blitz wandered through the city, holding the note folded up lightly in one hand. He'd accepted a mission to find someone in this town. Not like the last mission he'd been on, which was a mission to find someone for a rescue - this one was much more light-hearted than that. This person wasn't lost at all, or in need of rescuing - they just wanted to challenge someone to find them in the vast expanse of a city somewhere. Preferably in the course of a single day. "So why'd you pick this one?" Shoop asked from atop his head. "Usually you go for the more combat-prone ones, or ones where combat is the whole point of the mission. This one doesn't involve any. Heck, it even says that you should try to avoid hurting the guy when you catch him." Blitz let out a long sigh, closing his eyes briefly. "I'm looking for a challenge, I'll admit, which isn't a rare thing for me. But this time I'm challenging my own tracking technology, seeing if it works as well as I think it does. I haven't had much occasion to practice it in a situation where it would actually help, or that I didn't already have a good idea where the person or thing I was searching for was." Shoop nodded briefly, looking thoughtful. "I suppose you do have a point. Last time you even bothered to turn on your tracking vision was during that scavenger hunt for candy, and all you got for your trouble was dirty looks." Blitz scowled. "Hey, in my defense, they didn't say a thing about not being able to use magic - they sure as heck didn't yell after me when I literally flew down the starting street for the hunt - and I turned it off after I found the first place filled with candy, which was the only building I bothered to look inside." "Fair enough." "Now, let's take a look around and see if we can find the person. Would have been nice if they could have left us with a picture of some kind." "Well, they could have. The mission request did say that the person would give us clues to find them each time. Even the two of us can't overturn a whole city in just one day." "Not in a way the locals could continue living normally in it, anyway," Blitz said with a short chuckle.

"Belladonna. Ah, I sure love this city," a man sitting in a cafe said, after a sip of coffee.

"I can imagine. I mean the way it's built. All the towering buildings, stacked up on top of each other. The potential for a game of hide and seek it endless."

"Well, it isn't endless. I mean I've been around, and while there are tons of places to hide, the good ones are pretty rare. Though, it's not like I only hide in the best places," he said with a grin.

"I heard you have a new challenger. Are you excited?"

"You betchya, I've been waiting for a good challenger for a while now, so I hope I'm not disappointed."

"Well, then I hope he finds you in the first day," the man's friend grinned.

The man laughed. "If he did, then I wouldn't really be very good, now would I?"The two took their last sips of their beverages. "Well I guess I'm off."

"By the way," his friend said just as he got up. "How is your challenger supposed to figure out who you are. I mean don't you usually meet up with them first?"

"Nah, I stopped doing that, since they would sometimes cheat by secretly putting a tracking device on me, or activate one of their spells or something."

"So then, how do they know that the challenge started?"

The man smiled, and then snapped his fingers. In every corner of the city a hologram would appear. The hologram was of the man himself a pretty average guy at first glance, black hair, a fair complexion and a weak build; he didn't look very impressive, but looks are deceiving. There was also a short audio message set on repeat. "Your challenge has begun. Catch me if you can." There was also a timer on the device, so that it would stop after twenty minutes.

"Later man," he said waving good-bye, as he disappeared into a alley.

The holograms were the first clue. If the challenger managed to find a pattern in the way they were placed around the city, he could figure out the first hiding place.

Not long after Blitz and Shoop's joke about overturning the city to find the guy, a series of hologram displays flared to life all across the city, showing a man with dark hair, a weak complexion and a rather scrawny build - not one for melee combat, Blitz thought, but he doesn't have to be here. The man confirmed himself as the one hiding, then taunted Blitz to come and get him. Normally, Blitz might take to a challenge like that with gusto, but technically he already had by agreeing to come here and look for the guy in the first place. Blitz took to the air, glancing around at nearby alleyways and streets - the odds the guy would start the city-wide game of hide-and-seek with Blitz close by was a long shot, but you never knew. Maybe he intended to throw Blitz off by hiding nearby him on purpose, so that Blitz wouldn't think to check nearby with this fancy display. Sort of like how children trying to avoid getting caught and given a bath went to hide in the bathtub because it was the last place a parent would think to check. Though of course, that method only had merit if the hider himself was as smart as Blitz himself. Blitz soared into the sky, up to the level of the holograms, then higher still, until he was actually looking down on the holograms - not too far away, but enough so he could see the general layout of the holograms.

"So, why exactly are we this high up?" Shoop asked. "He might be on a rooftop, granted, but the odds of him drawing all eyes to the sky while he'd hiding up here himself are damn slim. And if he actually is crouched behind a box or something up here, this mission will be done alot faster than we first suspected."

"True enough," countered Blitz, "But if he's using these displays to broadcast his image and the start of the challenge here, then he must be broadcasting them from a central point - if not the man himself, from someplace that could project this many images at once. At the very least, it'll help narrow down the area we have to search around in to find the guy."
Blitz studied the holograms carefully, observing how they were spread out - if he could identify a radius or central point, it would give him a chance to speed this up quite a bit by narrowing the search zone.

What the challenger was looking for was neither a radius nor a central point, however there was in fact a pattern hidden within the lights of these holograms. The pattern would be revealed just as the holograms began to shut down. The lights that this holograms were making looked just like the table of a game of Chinese checkers; each side of the star being a different color than the one beside it. There were six colors in all, red, blue, yellow, orange, green, and violet, and each on of the colored triangles would shut down in a unique pattern. The red lights faded one light at a time starting from the tip all the way to the bottom row. The blue lights faded from the inside out. The yellow lights faded row by row from bottom to the top. The orange lights faded from each side to the middle. The green lights faded outside in. And finally the violet lights faded randomly. Only a skilled observer would be able to catch every one of these patterns. And though it might seem that they were insignificant, if the challenger was astute, then he would soon learn that each of the patterns was a clue. However, these clues could only be used to their fullest when arranged in the correct order.

The first thing the challenger should have realized once he had seen these patterns was that the man was hiding within the area covered by the hologram lights, and not outside of it. If he could figure that out, his next clue would be at the light that was turned off last; at the bottom of the red area. There he would find a small shop, which seemed to be hidden under a myriad of small shops in the shopping district. In the shop he would find a short man with bright red hair and an unwelcoming expression. It would seem that his shop wasn't very popular, specializing only in selling nuts and bolts. If he asked the man the right questions, then there was a chance he would lead him to the next clue.

As Blitz flew higher, intending to get a better look at the layout of the holograms, he did indeed notice something about the way they were laid out. A star-like pattern that Blitz wasn't familiar with, having never played Chinese Checkers himself. But the pattern itself he did notice, along with the fading order of the lights.

"Well, that was quite the lightshow," noted Shoop from atop his head. "Any meaning to it?"

"Well, the guy who set that up might be hinting that he's somewhere within that array of lights, certainly. The question is where...."

"Let's start with the red corner, then."

"Fair enough. They were the last to fade, so maybe they were hinting that it should be the first area he's in order of the colors."

Blitz flew down towards the area the red lights had been hovering over, diving down to land on the main street below. The area in question was a shopping center inside the city, the nearest shop being a place that sold nuts and bolts with a slightly surly-looking shopkeeper on duty.

"Hey, you didn't happen to see a skinny guy with dark hair go past here recently, did you?" he asked the red-haired employee. Granted, it was a slim chance at best that he had, but no sense in passing up a possible lead on this guy.

The old man sat in his shop, the frown on his face giving out a hateful vibe. It was obvious that this man didn't like working there, or perhaps he actually did. Every now and then, a rare smile would come over him, and it wasn't as if he was always in a bad mood. However, that day, and at that hour, and in that heat, it wasn't a surprise that he was. The geezer was really hoping he didn't have to deal with any costumers, and wouldn't you know it a not-costumer happened to walk in. At first, the old man thought that he might as well put up a happy facade, so he wouldn't lose out on patronage. But when the man who walked in asked his question, he realized that there was no point. Nothing was going to be sold today.

The old man brushed aside his crimson locks with his fingers and grunted in annoyance. "HOW RUDE!" he yelled. "You come into my shop, thinking you own the place, and ask me about some random skinny guy with black hair, without an 'excuse me' or even a 'please'? Do you think this is some kind of information firm?" he exclaimed. The old man, got out of his high chair, and walked up to him. "You're obviously not from around these parts, are you? You know, if it wouldn't be even ruder to just kick you out ... " he groaned.

The old man sighed. Rolling his eyes, he walked passed the young man and outside his shop. He opened the door to let in some air. he immediately regretted it. The noise just got even louder, and the air even thicker. He closed the door, murmuring something about an air-conditioner he walked back to his chair. "Hot ain't it?" he said seemingly over the man's untimely question. "If you're not here to buy some nuts and bolts, then I don't think I can help you," he said, fanning himself with a notebook.

The challenger had been a little too insensitive in his query. There was definitely a clue hidden somewhere in the shop. The old man would have been willing to help, but it would take a little more than a polite question to persuade him this time. The man in question had been to the shop before, and the old man had indeed seen him. Though, with age and memory having an inverse relationship, the challenger needed not only give the old timer a reason to answer his questions, but he also needed to ask the right ones if he wanted to jog the geezer's memory.

Apparently the age of being able to ask a stranger a quick question was dead, as the store-keeper flipped out at his 'rude' way of asking the question. How else was I supposed to ask it, Blitz thought with irritation. I'm on the clock, here. The old man grumbled about politeness, even going so far as to venture that he'd try to kick Blitz out if he didn't consider that even ruder. Blitz resisted the urge to smirk. Yeah, trying to kick Blitz out. That would require a bit more than a stern tone and a stubborn shove. Regardless, though, he supposed the old shop-keeper was right, in a way - he could have been more polite about it.

The old man opened the door, apparently wanting to let a breeze in, but the breeze that wafted past was even more scorching than the air inside the shop already. Despite what common sense would dictate, moving hot air was actually worse than stale hot air to a certain degree. Didn't do much for the old-timer's mood, either. Made him even crankier, if that was possible. At least he was willing enough to drop a hint as to how to get information - a fat wallet.

Blitz sighed. Greedy old git, he thought, but if that's what needs to be done. "Alright, I'll make you a deal - if you'll tell me if you've seen the guy I described, I'll buy some of your merchandise. Would that deal work for you?"

The old man was still annoyed at the man's rudeness, but when he decided that he was going to purchase something, the old man's attitude changed. Now that he was dealing with a costumer, it was different, he had to be on his best behavior lest he lose out on a deal.

"The guy you described?" he thought, remembering what he had said. A skinny man with black hair, huh? That's right, a man like that was here just this morning. He helped the old man restock all the nuts and bolts. "Hmm, there was a guy by that description who came here," he said, scratching his ginger locks. "He helped me restock all the nuts and bolts and that wall there," he said, pointing to the wall on the challenger's right. "He put them in a funny pattern, but that didn't really matter, since he was kind enough to help."

The pattern was the same chinese checkers pattern from before. There was something funny about the star though, most of it was made out of bolts, except for one of the triangles, which was the same side that was in red lighting in the previous star that was made from the holograms. The triangle was the only one made using nuts, but there were two bolts in it, one of them was the last one, which was the same hint used to find this very shop, the other bolt was at the tip top of the triangle. It was an obvious hint to the next clue.

After the challenger made his purchase as promised (which should be the entire star, since it could be a clue), he would head to the next place which was at the top of the red triangle. There he would find a fountain. The fountain would only reveal it's secret if he threw the two bolts that were in the triangle of nuts. When he did that, the fountain's light show would activate. It was a game of Simon Says. There were four colors yellow, blue, orange and green. The fountain would make a sequential pattern with the lights, and challenger would have to copy that pattern by splashing in the corresponding sides of the fountain. The fountain would continue the game for five turns, but would stop if he got the pattern wrong.

[OoC: Basically you can either finish the game and I pick the color for you, or you deliberately fail and choose the color yourself. Depending one which color you choose -or don't- it will make your hunt either shorter of longer.]

The man's attitude changed noticeably when Blitz offered to buy some of his scrap - he could tell that the incentive had shifted the man's stance on the matter - not that he'd been vague about how to do that in the first place. He did give Blitz the info he'd been looking for, in a round-about fashion - he mentioned that the guy he'd been looking for had been by, but strangely, had stopped to stock the shelves. Well, not like the guy's evil, Blitz thought. He might be the goal of the mission, but it was him issuing a challenge to a local guild mage, not like he had a bounty on his head or something. The owner mentioned that he'd arranged the stuff into some 'weird pattern', and upon viewing said pattern, he knew it was the same guy - it was the same pattern of lights that had been overhead not minutes ago that had winked out overhead.

Blitz noted that the whole thing was made from the bolts the man owned, save the corner that had been red up in the sky, but was now orange in this variation. Wait, not quite. It did have bolts - one in two of the corners. If this shop was supposed to be one of the corners, in a 'you are here' kind of fashion....

"Alright, I'll take the whole design." Blitz said, setting a pile of jewels equal to the cost of the set on the counter before placing it piece by piece into a container that would hold the design's pattern and shape, so he could reference it as needed. Maybe even update it himself. "Thanks for the help." And with that, Blitz left, heading for the next triangle corner, which turned out to be a fountain, though Blitz supposed it could be someplace close to the fountain instead - a 'map' of spare parts wasn't exactly to scale.

Looking around, he didn't see the guy, so clearly this wasn't an end to the game or the first location. He glanced back down at the map. Well, if the shop and here aren't the places I need to go, maybe I can narrow it down, at least, by keeping track of where I've already checked on this weird map. Blitz plucked the two bolts from the triangle, tossing them into the fountain near the coins passerby had already plucked in. Seems a shame to just toss em, at least this gives em some purpose, he thought.

A moment later, the fountain lit up. Ooookay, so it was the fountain, he thought after a moment. Each section of the fountain was a different color, along with the same colors over the fountain, which began flashing. Perhaps if I match the colors in the water, he thought. Blitz summoned one fist over each section of the colored water, splashing it in accordance with the colors shown in the water, getting all five color rounds right.

Incidentally, this small game the challenger was made to play, was a sort of tease at any challenger's intelligence. Sure the goal of the game was to follow the pattern correctly, but if the challenger had stopped to think a little, he could deduce that the fact that all of the colors were present, meant that it didn't matter which on he picked, and that the game was in fact one of the ways the man used to slow down his challengers.

However, the challenger had followed the patterns in succession, and once he had the fountain lit orange. This was an indicator that the next place he would be looking was the area that the holograms lit orange. If the challenger recalled, the holograms in the orange area faded away from the outside in. If he had realized the pattern, he would figure out that the place he should look for clues was on the line that was last to fade away, in the middle of the triangle from top to bottom. That particular area was in fact a main street, and was closed for repairs, so there wasn't any traffic.

When the challenger would reach the main street, he would try to search for something that could be a clue to help him get to the next area in hopes of finding the man he was seeking. Standing on the empty street, he would look long and wide, and if he looked in the right place he would soon find something of interest. An orange colored bird, the same shade of orange that was used in the lights previously. If he followed one of these birds back to it's nest he would find something out of place.

Inside the nest he would find a letter, a shiny letter 'e' placed in the nest. It was obviously a clue left by that man, but what did it mean? Well, if the challenger looked again he would see that the main street had many of these nests atop of roofs adjacent to the street. In these nest he would find more letters. Interestingly, depending on which path he chose to take the letters from, he would find a different set of letters. If he took a straight path on the same side of the street, he would find the letters 'l', 'o', 'w', 'l' and 'y'. However, if he went across the street and looked there, he would find the letter 'n' which could also be the letter 'u' if flipped upside down. And if he continued down that side of the street he would find the letters 'r', another 'e' and 'g'. The pattern was obvious to anyone that could rearrange the letter correctly, and would certainly be enough of a clue to head to the next area.

There was more though, and it was part of the man's way of teasing his challengers' intelligence. If the challenger looked further down each side of the street he would also find the letters 'p' and 'b'.
