Fairy Tail Guild RP Current News

Hey everyone, it's me, your Lord and Savior, your Once and Future King, and your new Admin-for-Life Unlimit Sendo. I'm here to drop some turnbuckle-diving elbows and awesome news. There's been some relatively small updates to rulings regarding summon familiars and single summons. Additionally, there's also been a pretty big update in regards to the AP shop which reorganizes it and adds a ton of new stuff. You can find that in the AP Shop section under Item Creation. Check it out.

Trampling footsteps were followed by metallic bands that hunted down the boy and his snake. They cut through the brush, twisted passed trunks, slithered across the forest floor. They waved across the leaves and disturbed the serene air wherever they shot through. They grew and grew from the girl-like creature that grinned an empty grin with holes for eyes. She advanced with her bands, albeit much slower. This was all too thrilling, so she decided to give her target some wriggle room for now. Capture them alive, a reminding voice echoed in her mind. Her mouth closed off into a frown, and then widened again. Right, this was her purpose! She needed to bring her sibling home! And then... "I get to eat! I get to eat!" she happily sang. "Mei! Mei!"

Did he outrun her? Was it really possible, with something of her size? Meikaku kept running, but spared a few words. "Rou, anything?" "Nothing." The black snake was on full alert, swiveling his head as the human of the duo continued running. The forestry was thinning, which meant the river was approaching... And there it was, the sweet sound of running water! More steps while avoiding outstretched bushes later, Meikaku emerged to a view of boulders along the flow. He was riding on a gamble, but it was a safer risk than facing off with that creature. Just like the advice he had given to the earlier rabbit, Poinsettia would be visible after heading in the direction away from downstream. What about the rabbit boy? The accidental concern for the stranger caused him to pause. What if he ran into the boy? ... No. No, he didn't have time nor the effort to worry about that right now. Meikaku grit his teeth. The mage could only hope that kid had already made it out safely. Who knows, maybe he became so lost again that he was far from this danger. "Don't stop," Rou hissed. The command was uncharacteristic of him, but it wasn't unwarranted either.

Right... To Meikaku, he and Rou were the two important things that took precedence in this world.

For Rou, the snake may not have been exhausting himself physically, but he was very well digging through his memories for any pertinent information. It was through this action that he dropped caring for anything outside of the duo; for some reason, everything else was just not important enough. By his very nature, Rou should have spared at least a thought for the poor boy from earlier, but right now... Right now, it was as if his mind was barrel in one path. Get away, it urged without words. Don't let her catch you. "Don't stop," he found himself hissing out before realizing it. The snake felt Kaku flinch, but he didn't take back those words. Why would he, when the hu- when Kaku finally stopped pausing? "I know, I know!" Without further pause, brief as it physically was, Kaku charged toward the river and jumped across using the boulders as platforms. But not soon enough.

Bands of silver cut through the air. There was no where to hide in this open, but the same applied to the bands. No sneak attacks, but was that really worth it? Five shot forward in his general direction, but it seemed like they didn't know his exact location. Kaku was able to duck down. He picked up as many rounded rocks that fit in his palms and watched the bands turn around. He didn't know if it'd be useful, but Barrier Blank started to coat his fingers. Kaku tossed the rock into the air and tried dodging the five again. It helped that there were obvious gaps, almost as if too easy...

And it was. Farther back into the forest, the girl was slowly advancing at her own leisure pace while controlling her bands. Stop playing with your food. The girl frowned and slowed her movements. It's a bad habit, the voice echoed again. She tilted her head. Why should that be of any concern to her bringing back Mei? As long as the job was completed, anything was okay right? Because, Mei may be weaker than you, but you are still weak. Taken aback, she continued frowning. "You're so rude! Why do you always read my thoughts before I think them up!?" Says the person pretending to have a limited vocabulary. She couldn't argue with that. Still, she was both impressed and disappointed. Those specific five bands were vibrating from the rocks that struck them, and were definitely discoloured by that sticky stuff that was slathered across them. That was the extent of the half-minded human though. What was Mei even doing in these past eight years? Being lazy? That shouldn't be though! Ahhhhhhhhhhhhhh just the thought of it was making her mad! Mad mad mad mad she was so busy these eight years and Mei didn't even do anything with that vessel this entire time how dare Mei how dare her sibling just take it easy... She looked up in realization. "Whoops. I hope I didn't crush that fragile human." In her short tantrum, she forgot to take it easy herself... Currently, she could feel her bands holding up the human in a skin-grating grip, even though her main body was very far away.

And Rou, Rou had fallen to the ground after being forced to release his coil. The snake was uselessly staring up at an upside-down Kaku whose body were bound against the tightened bands and whose eyes and mouth were covered enough to only glare speechlessly against the silver while struggling.

Run, run faster... run! He had to do his absolute best, or it would simply be too late. He felt sweat beginning to trickle down the side of his forehead, as he tried to push his body to the physical limits, skipping over the muddy floor that made up the path through the forest faster than one would've thought was humanly possible. However.. was that still enough? The weird sense he'd been alerted by earlier, felt like whatever was happening or was about to happen, wasn't anywhere nearby. Even at the speed he was going, it felt to the boy that no matter how much strain he put onto himself, he simply wouldn't be able to make it there in time. It was a horrible feeling, one that made his heart fill with dread, as well as his mind with thoughts of anger, at no one else but himself: for his stupid lack of coordination and inability to figure out where he was. If he hadn't gotten lost in the first place, he would've likely been closer to the snake boy, than he was now.

He couldn't give up, though. He could always do more than just what he initially thought he was capable of, he could always do even better and pull even the slightest strands of energy left within his body to achieve what he had set himself to do. In this case, that was to get there in time, before that bad hunch he had about the whole situation, came true. In a way, it was like a premonition, a sinister forecast of something extremely bad happening in the near future. That was a feeling Noel didn't get too often, but when he did, it was enough to send a cold shiver down his spine. Not because of how scary it was, but simply because whenever it happened, bad things did follow; that was, if he didn't do anything about it. The problem was that these hints of the future misfortunes always happened minutes, if not seconds before it all happened, giving the boy little time to do anything to prevent it. Even in this case, had he sensed all of it sooner, perhaps he could've reacted accordingly and prevented it from happening. At this point in time, though, such a feat was not as easy to achieve as he would've wanted it to be.

Luckily, as he ran at the fast speed, it seemed like he was getting closer. The feeling he was having, seemed more pronounced and fleshed out, which in turn also meant that Noel had been right about it. At the same time, it also felt like it was soon to come to its conclusion, which was something that the boy didn't want. At least not before he got there first. At the speed he was going now, it seemed like he actually got the chance to make it there. "Just a little bit further.." he thought to himself, jumping over a particularly big root sticking out of the floor across the path, and then continuing with his swift run through the wilderness. At some point, he had to turn off the path and then continue running straight into the surrounding forest itself, which was a bit more difficult because of the trees being so close to one another and the undergrowth trying to block the boy's progress. Still, he didn't give up, and continued pushing onwards, until the path through the forest was well behind him, and there were nothing but hundreds and hundreds of trees surrounding him.

But the feeling was growing stronger at this point, so he had to be going in the right direction. Every second that passed, made the boy more comprehensive, more anxious about the final outcome. It was almost like he was toying with a bomb, trying to disarm it while it ticked off towards the fated zero. Despite the danger of the situation, the boy wouldn't give up, though. Instead of that, he picked up on the tempo, despite the fact he was now making his way through the thickest part of the forest, where not many people have set their foot in. The reason for that was, that this path was likely a shortcut to the place that marked his goal, because it would've taken so much longer to get there by following the path around. By running through here, the boy managed to buy some more time, and thus shorten the amount he needed to reach the place, that was about to open up in front of him.

As swift as ever, the trees began to thin in front of the boy, until none of them were left; instead, the boy found himself reaching the bank of a river that was cutting through the forest, creating a small valley with trees not starting at least a couple of ten meters away from it. Less so than the sudden change of landscape, the sight of the familiar boy hanging upside-down above the river, stroke the young Mind mage as unusual - and then horrifying, when he noticed what held him up there to begin with. The metallic bands were coiled around him, most probably squeezing onto him as well, but most definitely not letting go of him. There was no doubt that something bad was going to happen any second: Noel had to prevent it! But there was no time.. all of that, the aforementioned thoughts, the sight in front of him and the possible situations and options he had, flickered through the boy's mind even as he was running towards the river, not stopping.

He could run as fast as he could, but it felt like he would be missing a second.. maybe less than that, just a fraction. If only he was a faster runner.. "Nnh.." His teeth gritted together, and all of a sudden, he disappeared out of sight; if Meikaku had been looking in his direction and seen the boy emerging out of the forest, running in his direction, he would suddenly see him.. vanishing, like he'd never been there. And less than a hundredth of a second later, he was already standing on top of the metallic bands, unsheathing the simple wooden staff that had been safely secured to his back until all this time. With his full strength, the boy brought the tip of the staff downwards in a swift motion, burying it into the metal of the elongated arms; even though it was blunt, and only wooden, it would soon be clear that a lot of force had been put behind the strike, as it would most likely easily delve deep into the arm, before the boy pulled it out, ready to strike the other one, holding onto the snake boy. "Let go of.. him.." he groaned out, his staff coming down with a powerful strike once again; and then again, and again..

He wasn't going to let this.. thing, hurt the boy who'd helped him out earlier.

If Meikaku had seen Noel appear in such a futile scene, he'd have cursed his worries coming true. If Meikaku could speak, held have called out the fool to grab Rou and run. If Meikaku could breathe, he'd surely have noticed another presence so close to him. All he could feel was the bands enclosing into his skin. One had encircled his scarf-covered neck, the coldness of his necklace was pushing deeper, and his mind was already grasping at the last strands of consciousness. He was weak, so weak. Part of him was slowly wondering if this was how some of his prey felt in an inescapable crushing grip. It was a fleeting morbid fascination, but there was nothing he could do in the position. He was too busy trying to endure as it was, and he was failing at even that. I can't let her take Rou... His mind fought at the last moment. His body refused to move. It was too painful and impossible to try. Is this death? Or capture? Did it matter? This was an end. Don't close your eyes! Why? All there was to see was silver anyway. Don't give up, not while Rou is watching- Ah, right...

From afar, the girl wondered if it was time to reel in the catch. Her arms had elongated and split into the thinner bands to cover more ground, but it was time to go. Five were holding Meikaku, while another five were soon to join the scene. It shouldn't be hard to pull him over while making sure he didn't get pulled against any tre- "AGH!" One band slackened from a startling sting. What was that!?

What was that? Some of the pressure was released from Meikaku's side. Yellow eyes widened at the sudden sight of a familiar presence. it didn't make sense; that boy shouldn't be here. Why was he here? And then- the words hit Meikaku. That rabbit was here... and trying to save him. Meikaku couldn't even say anything, couldn't tell the other boy to leave when it was obvious whose strength was actually strong enough to damage the bands. And just like that, a spark of hope awakened in Meikaku, stunned as he was. This wasn't an end. Not yet. The bands of the girl's arm jerked from the new interference, and Meikaku was reminded of how bound he was as he was helplessly shifted around. "Ngnh!" But, he wasn't giving up. He didn't know what or why Noel was capable of, but the heat of the moment told him not to question it. For now, just wait for a chance to escape. For now... Just follow those instincts of survival. He gave up on the notion of giving up, and focused all of his leftover concentration on the feel of the bands that were causing him pain. Focus on the pain... focus on when it lessens...

From the vibrations along the bands, the girl knew the intruder was a human. How dare they!? The girl rooted herself, not that anyone else knew, and transferred strength into all her bands. The bands gained a reflective sheen, and their tips sharpened. From the one damaged by Noel, it was evident that there was no blood, but the hole was not healing either. Five more metallic bands emerged from the right side and shot toward Noel, intending to impale the the kid for interrupting. They shot forward and were able to change trajectory easily, as if knowing where the boy was, but their paths were very angular. The band that had been injured joined in the attack, and tried to wrap around Noel.

From below, Rou had watched it all. Noel flashing in from seemingly no where and flawlessly stabbing the metal, something that neither of the duo was strong enough to even scratch. New questions bombarded Rou, but he ignored them. His mind was already whirring with plans on getting out of this alive and together, screw Kaku's plan of sacrifice. Yeah, Rou wasn't oblivious of his not-other's thoughts alright. Rou aimed at the remaining bands that held Kaku, took aim, and spat a fireball at them. It was a distraction at best, but it wasn't a futile move now, not with this new factor in the battle. It was as if there as no room for surprise in Rou's mind, not anymore. No room for rationalizing the helplessly lost boy from earlier turned savior. Right now, the fidgety boy early could get them out of this. Saving questions for later was the most efficient course of action against this threat.

His hasty stabs of one end of his quarter-staff into the metallic limb holding onto the almost unconscious snake boy would soon come to an end when he felt the movement of the metal underneath and around him. The boy hadn't expected that these metal extensions actually belonged to anyone or anything with a consciousness, simply because he hadn't felt any mental presence from them on his own. The only thing he could see was that they were coming from the ground, which would earlier mean that they were some sort of mechanical flower sprouting from the floor than actually being connected to a humanoid being on the other side of the forest. That was why the sudden movement in his direction from the additional limbs soon surrounding him came as a bit of a surprise, alerting the boy of the possibility that there was more to it than just what the eye could see - especially because he was soon to realize that there was actually some intelligence put behind the movements of the now-sharpened limbs swishing through the air at a fast pace.

"W-woah.." The first swish of the razor-sharp metallic band came from above, as swiftly as an eagle descending to the ground. A swift duck from the boy, while still holding onto the quarter-staff jabbed into the metal allowed him to dodge the blade, if only just barely. But then the next slice through the air would come, and the next one, giving the boy little time to rest. Quickly pulling the quarter-staff out of the metallic band, he used it for support by propping it against the metal he was standing on and then hoisting himself to the side as soon as the next metallic arm came; landing back on the original one, he once again supported his body on the quarter-staff to jump to the other side at the next attack. To someone, watching from afar, it would almost seem like he was dancing around his own weapon, but he was instead using it as a central support around which he could move freely, and swifter than normal, to avoid the fast moving, yet angular metallic bands.

Once the last one passed him, and he landed once again, the boy took a quick breather, though his eyes averted down to the wrapped-up snake boy once again. It didn't seem like the metal was squeezing onto him as hard, but he definitely wouldn't be able to escape from that tight grip just like th-.. "Aaaah!" Not having paid attention to the last metallic band, the one that he'd managed to injure in the first place, Noel found himself turned upside-down much like Meikaku, his body being squeezed onto by the metallic limb rather hard. He gritted his teeth together as the pain shut through his body because of the rather tight squeeze; now he could see what pain the snake boy was really in, and had been through all this time that Noel had wasted trying to get to this place. He needed to save him, and he needed to do so as quickly as possible! Maybe, if he hadn't been as careless as he'd been, he wouldn't have gotten caught by the annoying metal bands, and would've as such had more time to actually save the other. Now, the snake boy had to endure a longer period of squeezing just because he'd been a bit distracted for a moment.

"Nnhhh.." Gritting his teeth together even more so when he felt the metal pressing harder on his skin, the boy huffed. He needed to get out of the situation as soon as possible, or else Meikaku would get squished to death before he got the chance to free him from the tight grip. It was almost absurd, how the boy didn't seem to be worried about his own situation even a little bit, as if he was in no way concerned about what was going to happen to him. Instead, he was already making plans on how he was going to get the other our of the deadly grip. While he was in a similar tight spot though, the metal wrapped around his body, the boy hardly seemed worried. With a bit of an outward pressure of his arms against the metal, he tested its bendability. It was at least hard iron, maybe steel.

Once again, the boy tensed. Ever so slowly, the metal wrapped around him began to bend out where his arms were. Soon, the same happened to where his legs were, the metal stretching out almost like it was some sort of plastic. It wasn't long before there was a big enough gap on the top where his legs were (since he was turned upside-down), that a human would've easily gone through. Stretching the metal of the bands out just a little bit more so there was truly enough space, the boy climbed out of the tight grip, until he was standing on top of the now bent and damaged metallic arm. He had a look of concern on his face, but it was clear that it was there because of the snake boy. "H-Hold on j-just a little longer..!" he yelled out shakily, as if he wasn't sure whether that was achievable by the other or not. Either way, even if Meikaku could hold on a bit longer, Noel couldn't count on it - he had to save him as soon as possible.

But to do that, he needed to face it. Whatever was behind this whole thing. Just fighting the metallic bands wasn't going to get him anywhere. He crouched while still on top of the bent metal, and placed his hand down on top of it. It didn't seem like he was doing anything, because he only so much as quietly stared at the metal underneath him, but what he was in fact doing, was sending a telepathic message through the metal, to the possible recipient on the other end. "Let go of the boy, he's done nothing to you. If you don't let go, I'm going to keep hitting your arms until they can no longer move. So, let go of him and go away, or show yourself and settle it - with me."

One moment, Noel was as smooth as the swaying leaves around them, as effortless as the nonchalant river below. Meikaku could only see glimpses from where he was being held, but he didn't need to be in Rou's position to surely acknowledge that they had severely, incredibly underestimated the boy whose name they haven't even learned. The aforementioned snake was able to watch it all from below, but could only barely register those moments whenever the boy was readying to take another step, another swing. That boy wasn't even short compared to their human body, yet those metal bands slipped through where he was previously positioned as if they were striking blindly. The fireball had been brushed off like dust in the wind, a reminder of how the stranger was their only hope at this point. With nothing to do physically, Rou's mind lost its one-track focus. This situation of hopelessness was not foreign to Rou, not when he's been forced to go along with decisions outside of his control for a while now. Even if there had been minor choices to be made on his own, they were always influenced by some outside factor. Anything that he couldn't do, Kaku would compensate. Anything that was impossible for the duo, they just rode along in hopes of the best. But now... Now there was something opposing the impossible. For them. The part of Rou that wasn't focused on the fight, a sliver it may be, was filled with confusion and a sense of uncertainty. The rest of him unconditionally trusted the stranger for now, however, as any other weaker creature would to a strong defender.

The next moment, the boy was hung upside-down near Meikaku as well. Rou hissed in alarm at the dangerous flip, but went ignored. That sliver of Rou flared up just a bit wider. It was strange, trusting someone else whose actions would directly affect everything. It was strange because Rou could do nothing. This... This was dependence. He wasn't depending on Kaku; he was depending on a stranger. Something inside of him grated. Don't mind it, he can save us, a voice rationalized. A binding like that definitely won't stop him, the voice continued. And yet, this positive outlook and strong trust in that stranger's ability only caused more grating. It was a quiet grating, one so deep inside that it wasn't noticeable during such a battle. It was a churning in the background that blocked out the fear that perhaps the stranger wasn't strong enough. No, it was because that light-haired boy had power, as seen from that limb being stretched by magic, that the churning could even start within Rou. The snake watched on, unmoving. The stranger was a mage... a fact that really wasn't surprising. He was strong. This has already been established.

Meikaku didn't even know what to say at that. That look on his face nearly broke Meikaku's concentration. In the midst of everything, he didn't know how to register such an expression of blatant disregard for one's self for the sake of another. It had been a glance accompanied by an encouragement of endurance. How long had it been since he's seen, heard, such a thing? In the midst of everything, Meikaku didn't, couldn't hide his shock, one that reached out through the pain. He had tried focusing on the battle. He had tried putting aside all the obvious questions until later, when or if they were safe. But this, this feeling, he couldn't just ignored. In the midst of everything, Kaku felt like a child being looked out for again. For once, the dependence was not on him. In this situation where no one has given up, it wasn't him who bore the most affecting actions. In fact, his only available contribution was simply to not give up. And in this short, short moment of pause, Meikaku felt relieved. It was disgusting. Yet, he couldn't regret accepting it. "Y-you..."

Back to the battle, Meikaku watched the boy crouch. This boy was really trying to save them-! Just who was he? Just what was he? He was a mage, if the damage to that metal was anything to go by considering the lack of weapons around. What was he doing? What was going to happen? And then Meikaku felt a release in pressure once more, but this change was much more extreme. The grip had been relaxed, and he found himself free from pain. Air entered his lungs easily again. Two of the four silver bands did not let go, however. They had merely loosened enough to stop being painful. Slowly, they flipped so that Meikaku was no longer upside-down. He was disoriented by the suddenness of all the shifts, but he was relatively fine all around. Still, even if it was two bands now wrapped around him, there wasn't enough wriggle room to get free. "It's loose, but not loose enough," was the first thing Meikaku has been able to say this entire time.

Something hurt. What was this human!? The answer appeared quickly: the voice of the shaky boy pierced the girl's mind. This was telepathy!? From such a distance... No, not distance. That obstruction wasn't so strong as to pinpoint her location without the medium of her body. The surprise was brushed aside in light of what the obstructing human was demanding. That kind of thing... The girl grit her teeth. Why? Why why why why why was someone helping Mei? Who did this human think they were!? The girl wanted answers, but... Should she confront the boy? She didn't want to admit it, but she might not have been strong enough. But... her mission... Anger oozed from her indecision. Fine! The girl loosened her bands and unflipped her capture just enough. Fine fine fine! She lowered the other seven bands, five from the attacking arm and two from the other, toward the ground. They backed up like ribbons falling from the sky, but did not completely retreat. The irreversibly damaged limb, and makeshift platform for the boy, was left frozen in its position. FINE!

The girl fixated her attention in one spot, a spot near the snake back at ground level. The seven bands then finally retreated back into the ground... But only for the quickest of moments. Those bands struck back out straight to the sky, but this time from much closer to each other. Except, when they leveled to Noel in altitude, the bands began to twist within each other into a form. It was the form of the girl, empty-eyed and silver, but humanoid. The seven bands had coiled around each other so tightly as if they weren't individual. The girl had the likeness of her hair, her arms, was clothless and metal, but feetless since her ankles split off as a reminder of the bands. Rou and Kaku could still recognize her. Truthfully, this "form" of hers was like a projection of the one controlling everything in the distance. She was angry, but she wanted answers more than being reckless, and so conveyed words as concise and void of emotion as possible. The form pinpointed Noel, and then spoke. "Wait. You. I hear you. I need to know. Why? Who? Who are you to him? He is mine. You are interfering with the retrieval of my brother." Her mouth moved as normal, despite being a hole where the bands curved for appearance's sake.

"Huh!? Whoa-" The bands holding Meikaku carefully turned so that he was left facing the forestry without getting hurt.

"Fighting is painful. Failing my mission is also painful. I can not lose him again." What was she talking about!? Meikaku didn't know. Rou didn't know either, but something pulsed inside of him. Something both familiar and alien. The girl seemed to have felt something, and rotated Meikaku back. She frowned, as if sad. Maybe she was. "Has Mei forgotten about Hairo? Hairo has not forgotten about Mei. Strong boy, why do you attack when I left you alone?" The entire time, she didn't even notice Rou below her... Did she even know that the snake was there? Whether she did or not, it wasn't like Rou could do anything. Not when his felt his mind pulsing again so minutely as if in the distance, but erratically. Meikaku didn't glance toward Rou in fear of giving the position away, and neither could he recall a "Hairo".

From the brief movements of the metal he was standing on, the boy could tell that his message had gotten through; the emotions being transferred right through the metal, it felt to the young Mind mage as if an explosion of colors invaded his mind. Violet, indicating confusion and bewilderment, betraying the creature's inability to comprehend why he was doing this, why he had so suddenly decided to interfere when none of this had nothing to do with him in the first place. Another one was light blue, uncertainty; the unusual metallic creature was wondering whether it stood a chance against him after seeing his display of power during the initial confrontation. It was weighing its options, trying to figure out which one of them was the best in this case, but since it didn't really have all that much time to think, it was quite noticeably nervous as well. But the strongest color of all was definitely red. Its pure anger, and rage, even disappointment at the fact that he had appeared here right now, when it was so close to getting what it wanted. In a certain sense, it was almost like a small child, when something that was initially given to him, was suddenly taken away without explanation. The boy could understand these feelings, but he still didn't think they were justified in this case. Not, when they were the fuel that was causing someone to get hurt.

His words seemed to have worked. Quite calmly, the boy watched as the rest of the limbs began to slowly descend until they hit the ground, the entire thing reminding him, if only a little bit, to a white flag being lifted up in declaration of surrender. He knew he had to be careful, for creatures like that could never be truly trusted. There was always a chance they'd wait until just the right moment, and then strike when his guard was let down. Even though, as fast as he was, he'd probably be able to react quick enough in such case, he didn't want to let things to chance. Instead, he rather remained cautious through the entire situation, so that he could prevent anything worse from happening. After all, if that thing wanted to play any dirty tricks, it could go for the other boy once again, or for the snake on the ground. While Noel was capable of interfering if anything like that happened, he needed to be paying attention to be able to do so. That was why his eyes wouldn't leave the metallic tentacles at this point, carefully observing what was going to happen without saying a single thing. He'd already said everything he wanted, and was now waiting to see what was going to happen.

From the makeshift platform where he'd been standing, the boy would now jump down onto the ground. Just about then, the metallic bands, that had previously disappeared in the earth underneath their feet, reappeared and began to form once again. For a moment, the boy couldn't tell what shape the bands were forming into, but the longer he waited, the more obvious it became. It was a girl, made completely out of metal; and it seemed almost like she wasn't alive. She gave off a rather creepy vibe, making Noel shiver just at the sight of her, if only because he could tell that she wasn't normal. She was really.. off. And even more so, that belief strengthened when she began to talk. Her voice, her way of speaking, her reasons, all of it felt so.. odd and unnatural to him. It was almost like someone was using a chalk on a blackboard and making it screech every time it touched the surface. It was sending shivers down the boy's spine, though he was doing his best not to show it. Not that he was all that successful with that; despite being a strong individual, Noel was still just a kid himself. And hiding such things as feelings from others was still something he wasn't all that good at.

His eyes stopped on the holes that formed her eyes and her mouth; he was being addressed by her, and it would've been polite to look at her while she talked to him, but she was just so.. weird. He looked away. Wait, why was he concerning himself with politeness? She was a monster, a metallic being that shouldn't have existed, and she was hurting the person that had showed him the way out of the forest. Well, he'd gotten himself lost once again while trying to follow the directions, but that wasn't Meikaku's fault! He was just clumsy like that, nothing else..

"I.. He saved me from getting lost.." the boy said quietly. His voice was a bit shaky, and he still didn't dare to look at the metallic girl. So unusual, that sight was; considering how strong he was, he shouldn't have acted like that. Scared, like a rabbit, unsure of himself. But that was just the way he was. "I.. Didn't want him to get h-.. w-..w-wait, brother..?" he let out all of a sudden, his eyes widening out in clear confusion and disbelief. His eyes glanced back at the metallic creature, if only for a moment before he had to look away once again. "N-No, it can't be.." he murmured out. She had to be lying. His mind probed out towards her; he needed to know if she was lying. Her mental waves would most definitely tell him the truth. There was no way this boy could be related to such a.. thing.

Hearing the boy's voice, Noel's head turned to the side, seeing the metal bands moving him. They weren't squeezing on him any more, nor did they seem like they wanted him any harm. Why did she suddenly change her demeanor like that? Was it because of his own interference? She didn't seem to be all that kind and friendly just a few minutes ago.. "You've.. come here for a reason," the boy said, quietly. "You want this boy. But why..? What has he done to you, and why are you taking him away..? He doesn't want to go with you!" the boy let out. That, he was sure of. Meikaku's feelings on the matter were transparent as glass. He was confused, hurt, and just wanted to get out of here. There was no way he wanted to go with this.. creature that claimed it was related to him. "I attacked you, because you were hurting him. He's done nothing to you. I don't want you to hurt him," he stated simply. "So, please, let him go, and leave. I don't really care if that will make you fail your mission or not, but you cannot complete missions when it means hurting people and going against them like that!" the boy said.

He knew that the creature wasn't going to like such an answer. But it just had to be said; it was the truth, after all. Perhaps, these words would reach the girl's mind, and if that was the case, he was sure that she was going to leave the snake boy alone. But if they didn't, if she was going to continue pursuing her goal, then Noel was sure to interfere as well. He knew she was aware of that, and perhaps that was enough of an incentive for her to stop, too. If she really didn't want to fight, she'd see that she stood no chance against him, and maybe, just maybe, she'd leave Mei alone.

Rou watched, useless on the ground. The throbbing in the distance within him continued, but he didn't know how to quell it or what it even was. Was it resounding to something? A presence? A word? That girl? Was it just a coincidence that something was happening at this time? He couldn't know. It wasn't his to know, and so Rou watched the events transpire as however they will. But, deep underneath his thoughts, a pulse of familiarity shifted. Even while asleep, the pulse knew of secrets kept from its fake host.

The strong boy looked weak to her eyes, but her body knew very well how powerful his magic was. He answered her questions, and she listened without moving. She listened to his pauses, his unspoken rejection of her very being, his obvious disbelief at her choice of words... She listened to a voice that was both uncertain and yet unwavering. Hairo watched the strong boy even as he deliberately avoided her, and felt a tinge of offense. But... this tinge was only a fraction of what she truly felt out of everything. It was a tiny shard at the corner of her mosaic.

She wanted to cry at his answer. In anger, in lack of understanding, in frustration, but most of all, in abandonment. Just like a child, she first honed in on the what she knew was wrong of the strong boy's comments. "That's not true! You--" She swallowed what sounded like a sob, a muted screech of steel, and closed the gaping hole of her mouth until only a line was visible. She looked to the ground and slapped her hand against her mouth, as if holding in her tearless cries. She had seen a human do this once when they were in immense grief, and so she mirrored the action. Was that what she was feeling? She lifted her other hand too, one finger raised, and hoped the strong boy would give her the requested moment.

It may have been such a human action, but it was a genuine necessity to reenact for the sake of reviewing his words and, more importantly, that this strong boy was wrong.

Meikaku couldn't see anything with the way he was oriented, but even he could hear the absolutely certainty of disbelief in her distorted tone. Or maybe that's what he wanted to think. He couldn't help but wonder, Should he know her? ...Was it him that knew her? Part of him wanted to ask, but he couldn't do anything. If he did something stupid, there was no wondering what... Hairo? would do. And if he asked about 'Mei', then she might figure out that the snake was around, and he could not risk giving away Rou's position. He wouldn't use the current silence to ask, but now he couldn't stop his increasing urge to ask about it.

Hairo raised her head again, but faced toward where she gently held Meikaku. If the strong boy didn't want to share eye contact, then she'd look at something she liked instead. Loved, even. She moved her arms to the side and opened her mouth once more. In a voice that wasn't as distressed as just moments earlier, Hairo answered with an odd sense of finality. While organizing her thoughts, she had realized the direction this was going to go, and it was enough to pause her rage into a sudden, foreboding clarity. "Everything," she breathed out. "Even if you don't believe me. Even if no one believes me, everything Mei had done was important to me. He was born."

Meikaku felt nothing at those words, or perhaps bewilderment at best. Rou felt something deep in his mind lurch.

"I miss him, but wasn't able to go out and find him. Now I can, so I want to bring him back." Back back back, she kept saying. Back where!? was on the tip of Meikaku's tongue. She continued without regarding Meikaku's frustration. " 'Some pain is comfort'. That is what I have learned. 'Some pain is wrong', is what you speak. Then, I won't hurt Mei here, because I accept you are strong. Still, I don't understand you, and you don't understand me either..." Meikaku didn't see her raise a hand toward the injured limb that the kid had earlier used as a platform. "I don't care anymore if you don't understand. But I want Mei to understand. Mei of mine, who has forgotten Hairo..." her voice quivered at the end, but her face hardened into concentration as she morphed her injured limb into a different form.

Meikaku felt the metal holding him turn, which left him staring at... something. That kid and Hairo were also in view, but the shape of a coil within a spiral was what dominated his view. He felt like he should know what it was. But I...
I know this?
"I don't know that," Meikaku spoke up truthfully when it was obvious she was waiting for a response. Rou wanted to yell.
Hairo's anger and sadness flared upon hearing those words, and she accidentally crushed the entire piece into a swirly ball. Meikaku braced himself, but she kept her word about no longer hurting him. Instead, she finally lowered Meikaku to the ground, but kept his left ankle chained to the ground.
She wanted to cry. Was her Mei now dead?
He wanted to ask her badly of the person she was referring to, but he wanted his freedom and life more.
"Strong boy," she addressed Noel head-on now, her entire being facing him. "You want me to leave," she let her mixed emotions rise back, and her voice gained and increasing intensity. "Mei does not remember me, and I should let him be," she readied herself, eight tendrils rose through the ground and all pointed toward Noel. They only had one target. "Even if I want him, what you say Mei wants should be what is allowed," Her arms split into four sharpened bands each and formed a cage around her body. "These are things that make sense to do. These are things I can not do." More than her anger and disbelief of Mei not wanting her, she let her sadness, yearning, and fear speak. "You are stronger than me, boy, so I will tell you now. This is not my real body. I will fight you with all I have, even with this fake body, because just like you can not leave my brother to me, I also can not fail my mission. I will lose, and you will take him from me. I will be left alone again," she let her voice sob between her words, childishly revealing everything as she knew futility the same way that Mei and Kaku and Rou knew futility, "so fight me," but unlike Kaku and Rou, she didn't have a savior on the way, "fight me for your purpose just as I will fight you for his !" she yelled, and let four of her tendrils strike into the ground to emerge beneath the boy while her other four shot forward to skewer him. They zig-zagged and veered as necessary to do their job despite the pain their owner felt in her heart.

The battle started. Meikaku couldn't do anything other than punch the metal around his ankle and watch. Rou was now somewhere behind him, watching as well but, instead of hoping and knowing the kid would win, Rou was trying to bury a deep sadness he felt for Hairo.

The sheepish boy was trying to make sense of her words and her feelings. They were consistent with one another, and that's what troubled him. If her words weren't synchronized with how she truly felt, this would've all been extremely easy. If she was lying about her own emotions on the subject, Noel wouldn't have to think much more about it. After all, lies were not something he could accept as being a good thing, especially when they were used to manipulate others so that it would provide a personal gain to the one issuing them.

However, the fact was that she wasn't lying. She might not have known that he was aware of that, which was likely why she had stated she cared about him, whether anyone believed her or not. Perhaps most of the people wouldn't, considering that she had tried to hurt the snake boy, but.. Noel could see her feelings. They were as transparent to him, as his own ones were, he could practically feel them. Being able to feel them didn't give them the understanding of them, though. And that's what the boy was trying to do now, though the split moments that he had available to think about the subject, were barely enough. A lot of things were happening at the same time, and they were happening fast enough for him not to be able to properly assess the whole situation without a rather high chance of getting some details wrong and then interpreting them in a way that could make him react in a not-so-ideal fashion.

So, while he could feel her emotions and be able to tell that they weren't fake, he couldn't properly understand them. There were pieces of the puzzle missing, things that were probably related to the relationship between him, and the boy. That was something Noel didn't have intel on, and likely wouldn't without actually breaking into the steel-girl's mind and searching for the bits and pieces that would tell him about it. Not something he could exactly do at this point in time, not when she was so unstable, and would be able to hurt him (or Meikaku) at any time. Not to mention that his mind reading skills required a lot of concentration, which in turn often rendered him completely motionless - what would she think if he suddenly went limp while she was talking to him?

No, no, no, that wasn't the option. And yet, he felt like he wouldn't be able to solve the issue without understanding the situation more than he currently did. Her words were true, he had gathered that, but he didn't know what the reason for them were. What had happened in the past, that was making her so attached to the boy, and yet hurt him on the other hand, as if that was the normal thing? Why did she want to bring him back, and where was that back, even? Why didn't Meikaku remember any of it, nor her for that matter, while she seemed to know exactly who he was, given that she knew his name without anyone telling him about it beforehand? There were a lot of unanswered questions, but so little time to answer them. It was putting Noel in a bit of a tight spot, since he was hoping he could resolve the whole issue without having to fight. And yet, the way things were turning out right now, it seemed like there was no other way things could go.

"I.. I b-believe you.." the sheepish boy started once again, when the eight limbs started to move - being pointed at wasn't making him as uncomfortable as it might have if it was anyone else standing there, but his stuttering probably made it seem like it was. "I b-believe that you care about him a lot.. But.. y-you cannot force someone into something.. especially not in a way that would be.. h-harmful to the other," he said quieter, making a small step back. He wasn't scared, the step was almost like an indication that he didn't want to fight. His heart was telling him that there was no other choice at this point anymore, not after things had gotten that far. And yet there was still that little bit of lingering hope that she would listen to him and.. leave. Would her feelings really allow her to do something like that? Most probably not. Not when she was going to fight him, even when she sensed there was a very small chance of her actually winning. Both of them knew that. It was one of the proofs that showed why her care for him was as strong as she said it was.

As the limbs disappeared beneath the surface, the boy closed his eyes. "P-please.. don't make me do this.." he spoke so silently that hardly anyone would be able to hear him, lest they were standing right next to him. And then he made a small step forwards, right when one of the tendrils shot up from the earth and would've impaled him, had he stayed in the same spot he'd been all this time. Making another step forwards to the left made him - seemingly casually - avoid another one that came out, as well as one of the zig-zag tendrils that came towards him from the front. His eyes remained closed, it was almost like he was sensing the metallic protrusions wheezing towards him through the thin air. A few more steps forwards, and all of them seemed to make him step away from any of the given metallic limbs that were rushing towards them from different directions. It was almost like he was dancing between them, without really meaning to. Either way, it was making him approach the girl, getting closer and closer.

Soon enough, he'd be so close that the limbs would have to be bent quite a bit from her body, if they wanted to even reach him. He'd be standing in front of her in just a matter of moments. His hand reached out, placing itself on top of her shoulder, his warm lively hand, touching the cold metal. His lips didn't move, but the words rushed through her mind, as if they were coming from her shoulder, rushing through the veins into her brain. "If you really care about him, you'll let go.." In the next moment, his other hand touched her chest, where her heart would be, as if to remind her of that. His eyes opened up, and he looked right at her. Then, he smiled. Kindly, sweetly. Whole-heartedly.

In the next moment, a pulse came from the hand that was placed on her chest. His Mind Blast, fired from point-blank, had the power to level walls. He wasn't putting as much magical power into it for it to do such a thing. Still, the force behind the blast would be enough to throw the body of the girl several ten meters backwards, if she didn't somehow get out of the way. How would she though, when he was right there, in front of her? With that soft smile on his face, reminding her that her grief and anger shouldn't have been targeting him or Meikaku, that there were likely other ways she could've gone about this to meet and speak to the one she seemed to care so much about.

Because while in most scenarios, you'd be able to complete a mission, bringing a weaker target back - wherever that was - you couldn't count on that. After all, there could be times when that target would be, quite unexpectedly, protected by a strong, even if rather sheepish-looking boy.

E. The term E was sometimes used to refer to 'bait', otherwise known as any substance that had been created, developed, or raised to be fed to others. One. 'To feed' was to sustain oneself through the consumption or exhaustion of a substance... which could range from fully eating to simply hunting. Two. For creatures who took the role of E, their fate was already doomed from the moment of their creation. Three. Four. Hairo was no exception. But, sometimes though rarely, an E would gain a useful purpose and ascend to be one who feeds on others instead of dying as one who is fed to others. Hairo wanted to be that exception. Six. She wanted to make Mei become the exception too. Eight.

There was too much information unshared. Too many dots left unconnected.
The human in front of her understood much of what she conveyed. But, it wasn't enough. She hadn't given him what was needed to be heard, and so understandably, he couldn't hear it. She couldn't have known he could grasp her feelings, and neither could she consider the possibility of talking this out. Opponents were not people. They were things to strike down, with their thoughts set in stone and their abilities measurable. It would be futile to change the strong boy's mind, because that's how he was. It would be impossible to defeat him, because his strength was too high. She accepted this easily. Her continued, misplaced determination against his power, a power developed from a hard-earned growth, sealed her loss. It's because you don't think like a human. Hairo wanted to be an exception to an E's fate. But only humans could do such a thing, with their stubbornness to deny futility and to never accept fate for what it was.

She failed. As she stared at the mind mage in front of her, she lamented for her failure... for failing Mei. The battle was over before it even ended. She, someone who looked human without truly being one, could not feel the warmth of his hand. She, something that clung to an obsession through an ill-willed means, could do nothing against the boy that fought honestly for his beliefs. His words rung in her mind, but all it did was force up vague memories. To let go meant forfeit of her purpose to her Mei. To let go meant...
She was met with a kind smile. A smile so human, a smile unwrought of any trouble nor sadness. It was a smile she had wished to see for a long time, but the fact that it was her opponent and not Mei gave the view a bitter sensation.

The tint of bitterness, on top of the mind mage's words, was enough to dredge up so strongly an image that dominated her thoughts. An image of a chain, links upon links of inky, shadowy chains coiled like a snake within a cage of spiraling darkness-- a maelstrom of inescapable bindings surrounded by glass and a torrent of water, flashed so fully, so vividly and real in her mind, that perhaps the mind mage was able to glimpse it as well through the physical contact, just as his Mind Blast was fired.

Her tendrils were avoided without much effort. From start to finish, Meikaku sat watching that guy approach the metal girl seemingly effortlessly... No, was it really only seemingly? It was clear to everyone in the area-- she was outmatched. Outleagued? Maybe even outrealmed. Her feelings of necessity were not enough to defeat the mind mage. They weren't even enough to slow him down, and soon that guy was standing in front of her. This was just too much even to Meikaku despite how grateful he was. He knew he shouldn't give an enemy such thoughts, but he didn't know what to think about Hairo. Her words only swelled the swallowed words he wanted to ask, but her actions had been so contradictory. And the moment that guy placed a hand on her shoulder, Meikaku knew. I won't be able to ask. Not about why she knows Mei, not about Mei's purpose, not who she was to Mei, not why he felt no familiarity to her claims. As the brief battle was nearing its inevitable end, Meikaku prioritized his thoughts without looking back. But we get to stay free for another day. That's what matters. Even if that guy confirmed her 'words of care' to be genuine, I can't feel bad for an enemy that's stronger than me. I can't afford to.

To Meikaku, the end came swiftly and without much incident... if he could even say that. "Wh--" Instinctively, Meikaku raised an arm in front of his face as a wind blew past him made from Hairo being thrown back so intensely. He couldn't even see her body disappear into the forest,, or what was left of it anyway. Her arms and legs that were connected to the tendrils were ripped away and left behind to whiplash toward the other direction, leaving only her torso to head crashing through the trees far into the forest away from the river, out of sight and no longer a threat.

In moments after her body would finally stop, it would break down like a husk exposed to time. Her real body, the one that had been stationary much deeper in the forest, would be left sprawled and spent, unresponsive and barely even hanging on from the destruction of part of her body. The rest of her body, those tendrils created from her, would begin the slow process of disintegrating until the traces of her appearance would disappear.

What unbelievable power-- Meikaku thought once again, overwhelmed by the sheer observation of it. The metal band wrapped around his ankle soundly cracked, and finally, he was able to break away and stand up on his own volition. He didn't think of that, but instead twisted his body and ran a few steps. "Rou!" The black snake was low enough on the ground to avoid the brunt of that afterforce, but barely responded. Carefully, caringly, Meikaku kneeled down and cradled his other not-half into his arms. "I feel something is mourning," Rou spoke after settling in the arms of the one he cared most for, "Something inside of me is mourning." After everything that happened, Meikaku didn't want to think of what those words meant. Had Hairo meant Mei, the snake after all? Was Mei cognizant enough to understand her defeat? One after the other those worries would surface, but it was too much to think about. For now, he swallowed down again, shoving them away to an ever-growing abyss of stress-inducers.

Standing up quickly with a firm hold on Rou, Meikaku faced the other mage with a new problem. What... could even be said? He opened his mouth, but closed it again. This sheepish walking powerhouse who saved them was an awe, and as Meikaku's breathing was calming down, he knew he had to say something. Stupidly, he spoke the first thing he ended up coherently thinking, of all the things he should've say. "Sorry for thinking you were a rabbit. I mean..." He took a breath, his arms naturally tilting to hold Rou closer. "I don't even know your name, but you came back this way. Thank you..." He didn't know how else to say it to this guy, who came to save them, strangers, to save Meikaku who had acted cold and practically shoved the boy away in hopes of never needing to deal with him again... Even if his paranoia of something coming after him ended up occurring.

The bitterness. It felt so real, so intense. The feelings of remorse and regret, the feelings of wanting for things to turn out differently - these sad, sad feelings hit the boy more than that anger he'd faced earlier, the teeth-grinding rage she was saving for him. Through his fingers that had briefly touched the surface of her body, all of these emotions traveled from her, like a strong signal, hitting the boy like an electric current. Even as the repulsed body flew through the air like a sack of meat, the brief vision of what it was feeling, was still replaying in front of the boy's mind. He was shocked, taken aback. He'd gotten a brief feeling of what she was going through from their confrontation, but there was nothing as strong and emotional as that. It almost made him regret doing what he had, even if he had to persuade himself over and over again that Meikaku couldn't be save with her around, not when there was no telling whether she was going to hurt him, or not. There had to be something wrong, terribly terribly wrong, in her mind, for her to be even considering doing that despite the strong feelings that were tying her to him.

It was complex.. way more complicated that the Mind mage could figure out in that single instant, with that scarce information he had available. His eyes closed momentarily, but the feelings remained. He shook his head slightly, but the feelings remained. Come on. His eyes opened up again - but the visage of curling chains, dark as night, were so vivid in front of his eyes that it was as if he was practically dreaming while being awake. They disappeared soon enough, but the shuddering feeling remained. He wanted it to go away. He didn't even realize how much time had passed since the end of the fateful encounter, it was like the time itself was turning inside out. A weird, guttural feeling started up somewhere inside of him, and he felt his knees shaking a little bit. Perhaps that was why it wasn't strange he practically jumped when the voice of the other boy reached him from his side, in an awkward attempt to thank him for everything. Startled, he swiftly turned towards the boy, and made a small step backwards. Once again, he was like a scaredy rabbit, ready to run away if only a single step was made in his direction.

"N-no, it's.. I m-mean.. S-she was.. I-I.. u-uhm..." A complete mess of words came out of his mouth, followed by a sudden blush over his cheeks, then he made another step backwards. And tripped over a root sticking out of the ground, similarly to how he'd tripped over Meikaku himself just an hour earlier. Was it already that long..? It seemed like it happened only a moment ago. Either way, he really was a magnet for all the obstacles placing themselves in his path, today. "Ahnnn..!" Falling down onto his behind, one of the boy's eyes closed in pain, while his teeth clamped together. He let out a soft gasp, but just a moment later, he was already back on his feet - apparently, his startled state was enough to prevent him from considering the pain too much at this moment, even though it was the second time he'd hit the same spot on this day. He made another step backwards, but his back his against a nearby tree - he took that moment to reach behind and rub his bottom a little bit, trying to ease the pain, all the while keeping his eyes focused on the other.

His breathing was quick, like a little animal that took a moment to stop in the midst of a run. He opened his mouth to say something again, then closed them. Once again, they opened up and closed, as if he was a fish that had just been caught and had to deal with lack of water on land. He fell silent for a few moments, as if trying to gather his thoughts and put them into comprehensive words that the other would actually understand - it took at least a full minute for him to finally regain enough of his confidence to try speaking once again. He could still feel his heart beating like crazy at that point, but he'd calmed down at least a little bit. "She.. You d-don't need to t-thank me.." he said first, feeling a bit uncomfortable with the trunk of the tree right behind him, preventing him from moving backwards if he so desired. "I.. I-I'm n-not sure if.. i-if I d-did the right thing.." he finally said, biting on his lip, as his eyes moved away from Meikaku for a moment, as if he was having an issue keeping the eye contact for longer than it was necessary.

He knew his words were probably confusing. He was confusing himself. Those feelings and emotions he'd experienced, were the reason. Another deep breath, and an exhale that was a bit more erratic, as if he was attempting to remain cool, and was failing miserably at that. His eyes found the boy once again - the blush hadn't disappeared from his face. "S-she.. I d-don't really u-understand.." he admitted, biting on his lip nervously. "B-But.. she c-could h-have been.. I mean.. She was.. Y-you could feel it, couldn't you?!" The last question was directed at the snake. The vibe he was getting from it, was in its texture, similar to what he'd felt when he was speaking to the girl. There was some sort of a connection, but the string was too thin for Noel to grasp - he didn't know what it meant. He was trying to understand, for the lack of a better word, and yet he felt like he was missing several pieces, before he could even hope to get close to beginning to understand. And yet, there was something at the back of his mind, telling him that he needed to understand somehow - that he was already involved - and that he had to do something about it.

He let out a soft, exhaling sigh. He'd completely forgotten to address the snake boy's mention of his name, he was too.. aggravated by the whole thing. "I d-don't know w-what she was, or what she was t-trying to do.. B-But.. I'm not sure if.. if I did the r-right thing.." he spoke. He was nervously rubbing the tip of his foot against the dirt underneath him. "I-If I could s-somehow figure out.. I j-just.. I f-feel there's answers to your questions hidden inside of you..!" he suddenly said, his emerald green eyes focusing directly on Meikaku's now - it was almost like he was asking him of something.
