Had it already been the sixth evening? The entire week had been a flurry of events, from the almost-existential crisis, to the murder attempt, to an actual murder, to the overly active meeting of and festival-partaking with one (1) Alastor, and then to another festival-like event. At least it the last one was generously calm by comparison, and on hindsight, the boys did have moments, hours and nights even, of silence to themselves. Still, the events of the past sunlit days were taxing in both attention and emotional effort. Currently, the human and the snake of one whole were resting between the bushes under of the numerous, thousands of trees covered in lush lavender leaves. The hues that surrounded the duo were ever slightly changing as the breeze streamed through each branch. Leaves rattled, animals sounded, and a river flowed undisturbed some many trees away out of the boys' sights. At the base of the aforementioned trunk, Meirou sat with his legs stretched forward and his back and head resting against the bark. With his eyes closed, he could have been mistaken as a sleeping teen just taking a nap in the peaceful setting. This was not the case, even if it would have been great to be. Seeing as they hadn't been able to stop by their home back at Empyrea yet, he was still wearing the same pants and shirt since their time in Coreopsis. The hoodie sweater had been switched so that the black side was outward, but otherwise everything looked as usual as ever to anyone familiar with the male. A red hat was on his lap, and a white snake was strewn zigzagged over the outstretched limbs. Meirou opened his eyes and dialed his headphones back to their normal setting. "It's clear. I don't hear or feel anyone." He had been using Perceive Pulse to sense the area around them for any stalkers of any creature, as well as heightening his headphones to a high sensitivity. It was as he said though: nothing was immediately around, and that was as much of a cue as any to get knocked out vulnerably. Meirou had been maining in the human body for a while, and Kaku had been increasingly feeling restless without personally being on the move. They had agreed that it was time for a switch. "Alright here we go." Meirou upturned his right palm and let his other not-self bite him on the pinkie-finger. It was quick, they had done this so many times, and then the disconnect started with Inscriptive Id. The human went limp, his head rolling to rest against the bark and his left shoulder. Now he truly looked at peace, and especially unconscious. His hair started bleeding black from the roots and replacing the white strands in color, while the snake was losing its white scales to a similar ebony shade. Darkness and light did not exist to the two, and so they did not believe the color differences to be a sign of condemnation to the stereotypes of Good and Evil. They simply wanted to live, or at least continue to try finding a reason to do so. Kaku had started feeling the strain and struggle of his attempts to keep their lives intact, and the consequences were apparent in his recent inaction. It was half of the reason why he wanted to risk switching bodies again. Seldom did he have an issue with hearing the voice of the snake, but right now he was just tired. He had hoped a walk on two feet would cure the ache, even if he should have known that burdens of emotional and mental origins were not as simple to ease as working out a sore body. Either way, the two of them were disconnected from the world, their minds in a strange limbo as they were reorienting to each others' bodies for the moment. |

Noel felt kind of lost. Northern Fiore wasn't exactly the part of the country where the boy would spend most of his time, if anything because the place was quite far away from Magnolia, the city where his guild was located. Considering his bad memory, it often happened that he had trouble navigating even through that city despite it being the place where he lived. That was why he usually made sure to take a map of the Fiore Kingdom with him whenever he traveled further away, especially if his path took him to places he'd never visited before. This time though, his bad memory would strike again as he completely forgot about the map, making it so much easier for him to get lost here, in the forest. Usually, if that happened, he'd at least have Buster with him to point him in the right direction whenever he was about to take the wrong turn. "Gwaa.. Where's that owl, when you need it.." the young brown-haired boy muttered quietly to himself as he walked through the forest, his head lowered a bit and a slightly sad expression crossing his face. "I'm never gonna find my way home like this..." he sighed, stopping for a moment and closing his eyes in frustration. Bringing his hands up to his face, Noel buried his face in them and let out a quiet groan. "Ughh.. How did I even end up here..?!" he finally exclaimed out to himself, as if there would be someone who could answer his question. Aside from the peaceful chirping of the birds though, nothing did. In truth, he'd been returning from a nearby town on the other side of the forest. Since that town was small enough not to have its own railway station, the boy was bound to walk back to the city of Poinsettia. After having talked to a few people in the neighbourhood, Noel had learned Poinsettia wasn't all that far away; all he had to do, was cross the forest dividing the two towns apart, and he'd get there! Except the people had said it'd take him about twenty minutes to get there, and it's been nearly an hour since he'd left that place, and he was still unable to see the end of the forest, no matter which direction he looked in. Shaking his head slowly in disbelief at his own bad luck, Noel continued walking down the main path through the forest. "This is just.. unbelievable..! They said I only had to go straight ahead..!" he blurted, glancing over his shoulder in the direction he'd come from, as if he'd be able to see the entrance of the forest. Of course, there was nothing but trees. "And they said twenty mi-... Aaaahh!!" Having looked backwards while talking to himself, Noel didn't notice a young black haired boy with a white snake in his lap, leaned against one of the nearby trees. His foot bumping against the boy, Noel let out a yelp, as he tripped over him, hitting the floor hard with his arms sprawled out to cushion his fall. Owwie...." he yelped quietly, bringing one of his hands up to the back of his head, rubbing the painful spot, while he closed one of his eyes in pain. |

The other boy's unfortunate fall went unnoticed, but only just. It was a muddled, but otherwise quick transition from a blank dull to sharp awareness again. Meikaku felt the tree behind him, the body on him, the grass below him. He tested his fingers once, twitching the little human protrusions with a welcomed familiarity. Rou's response followed; he removed his fangs and flicked his tongue. Even if it still took time to reorient to their new senses, there was nothing that could change the obvious though,. Like, another pair of legs in the vicinity that is. The now-black scaled reptile shifted immediately when he side-glanced something new in the area, someone who was on the ground next to the waking duo. Yellow eyes startled opened at his other not-self's movement. It was a reaction nurtured from a growing caution bordering paranoia ever since the events in Coreopsis, ever since the two of them were pushed off the bridge and then watched a man choke on his own blood to death. Or was it the loss of blood that killed him first? Either way, Meikaku was more highly alarmed than actually scared by the boy's sudden appearance. It was similar to waking up right to someone' face a centimeter away from one's own, and the unwhole boy wanted to address it before anything else happened. He leaned forward and spoke while letting Rou slither off his legs and up his arm. "What are you doing?" The question came out coldly, maybe even defensively, but Meikaku didn't care about politeness at this point. He was too stressed to deal with this unnecessary stranger in the middle of the damn forest. Meikaku did try calming down though. It wouldn't help anyone if he couldn't think straight under pressure, even if he wasn't thinking for himself. With his legs free and Rou coiled half around his right arm and half overlooking from the back of his left shoulder, he quicly threw his hat on and stood up. "I think he hit his head..." Rou supplied more rationally. Meikaku blinked, and as if those words opened up the possibility of innocence, he finally took in the grounded boy's position and appearance. The other boy looked like just another normal guy, younger even, with nothing outright noticeable or even dangerous in the second of observation. Scrunching his eyebrows in slight confusion at how the kid even managed to flatten out like that, Meikaku's first assumptions of a potential, unwanted troublemaker was slowly being poked into submission. He sighed out to ease his glare and held out his left hand to the fallen kid. He still would rather be alone with Rou, but snarling away someone that might've just been at the wrong place at the wrong time wasn't going to help anyone either... But neither would letting his guard down, if he's learned anything so far. "Sorry. Here." What exactly he was apologizing for, he wasn't even sure himself. His offputting rudeness? Unlikely, but he just felt like there was something to be apologetic for, and so he went with it. If the hand was taken, he'd pull the other boy up. He figuratively bit his tongue for any other immediate words; the sooner this kid went on his way, the less energy Meikaku needed to expend on doubting the guy. Rou on the other hand was feeling less, far less on edge than Meikaku. The red-eyed snake regarded the brown-head in surprised curiousity rather than a mini flight-or-fight mode. Sure, he was surprised too; heck, he had been the one to check their surroundings and giving the clear to switch in the first place! But no, instead of pinning all his worry onto the boy, he was instead wondering if their switching phase was lengthening. Was something weakening between them? It wasn't like they could deliberately control how long they were unconscious for. Still, it was their own troubles, so Rou pushed it aside in favor of focusing his attention on the boy. Now that he was perched hugging their scarf and the necklace underneath it, he could see why the other boy was on the floow. He then watched Meikaku lend his hand after the supplication. The apology was odd, almost as odd as the initial edgy tone, but this wasn't a time to question every one of their own actions with a stranger around. Instead, Rou followed Meikaku's uncertain tone and word choice with a calmer, genuine question of worry. "Are you hurt?" |

Rubbing the back of his head in pain, Noel hadn't even noticed who or what he'd tripped over until he heard the first words from the pair. Quickly turning around on his back, so that he was now sitting on his butt, the brown-haired boy's eyes widened a bit when he noticed another boy leaned against the tree he'd earlier tried to walk past. Instinctively, he pushed himself backwards further away from him while still on his all fours, then tried to somehow stand up, but the cruel fate had wanted for a root sticking out of the ground right at the spot Noel had tried to step on to secure his balance.. And 'BAM!', he'd crashed back on the ground, his eyes closing tightly in pain once again as the painful sting traveled from the point of impact on his butt, up through his spine into his brains. He wanted to yelp in pain, but since he didn't want to appear like a weakling in front of the other boy he'd only just literally ran into (though his clumsiness didn't help), he suppressed it by biting on his lower lip. That resulted in his eyes watering a little bit, which was in a way even worse, so he quickly moved his arm up to his face to wipe the wetness from the corners of his eyes with his sleeve. After he removed his arm from his face, a bit of redness across his eyes could still be seen, so it was fairly obvious that the pain had caused a tear or two to appear out of Noel's eyes, but there was nothing Noel could do about it at this point. Instead, slight pink color crossed the boy's cheeks as the black-haired boy's rather scary question made Noel look up towards him, the look on his face shy and sheepish, like that of a hunted deer running before a hunter. "I-I'm sorry, I d-didn't really mean t-to, I t-tripped.." He gulped nervously, his eyes widening even more so when his eyes set on the other for the first time - well, more so on the snake coiled around his shoulders, its dazzling yellow eyes staring at Noel with that sort of mesmerizing stare that made the boy's heart begin to pound harder against his chest in discomfort. He was so taken aback by this new turn of events that he'd grown speechless, his mouth still opened since his earlier attempt to explain it was actually his fault for not having looked where he was going. Snakes, while not exactly uncommon animals on their own, were quite rare to be seen accompanying humans like that. In fact, there was only one other person Noel knew that had a snake he was comfortable enough with to keep it wrapped around his neck at all times no matter where he went: Eric Bashere. His best friend, but at the same time, a dark mage that had more murders associated with him than any of the dark mages Noel had met in his young life. Nothing said that the reason he was like that was because of his snake, but it was still common knowledge that snakes were usually connected to the Dark Arts. While that small information wasn't exactly making the young brown-haired boy think of the other being a dark mage, it did bring at least some form of apprehension to him, as he stared up at him with an uncertain look on his face, unsure of what the other boy was going to do. Maybe that was why he was a bit hesitant at first when the hand was offered for him to take, in order to save him at least a little bit of that embarrassment from having fallen onto the floor so miserably earlier. He stared at the hand for a moment longer, then lifted his eyes up towards the boy, and then back down again, then finally reached out and wrapped his hand around the other boy's, letting him pull him up onto his feet. "I, uh-uhm.. I'm fine, t-thanks.." he stuttered softly, exhaling out a soft breath as he took the liberty to brush the bit of dust off his clothes, all the while keeping his eyes carefully on the stranger. He didn't seem all that bad, even if the first impression Noel had gotten was a bit cold and scary - but now that the initial fear had passed, his heart was starting to return back to its usual tempo. "My head just h-hurts a bit, but i-it's nothing too s-seriou-.." he started, then stopped mid-sentence, with his eyes widened once again. He was staring at the white-scaled snake - was it just his imagination, or did it really talk just now..? |

It was like watching a rabbit frozen in a trap, with its beady little eyes pleading to its reaper, to not see it as the prey it was. Tearful uncertainty, ...slightly coherent. Fortunately for the other boy, the metaphor was only as far as figurative language could go, and Meikaku's chilled weariness was slowly giving way to a mixture of sympathy, pity, and a deniable worry. He wasn't really worried for the boy, but if the boy had somehow injured himself beyond a few minutes' worth of recuperation, then Meikaku would either have to keep an eye on him out of reluctance or somehow trek to the town with the fleshy luggage in hopes of the boy not dying from a stupid head wound or whatever. He doubted that it was that serious though, and the boy's reactions were good enough of an indicator that he was fine. Relatively fine, being scared notwithstanding, if the stuttering was anything to go by. How careless... Yellow eyes narrowed along with the slight confusion, but otherwise waited for the boy's movement. It was understandably easy to notice a black snake resting around on someone's shoulders despite the matching colors, so he let the boy's brain catch up with the idea. It wasn't the first time the two of them had been stared at, and it would be far from the last. Many times he'd hear "I rather like dogs!", and Meikaku would drop all his efforts for that particular conversation. Yes yes... it's a snake... come on... He could have rolled his eyes, but then that would have involved removing his stare on the boy. Both he and Rou refrained from rushing the boy though; he held his tongue for there was nothing positively useful to be said while Rou was already a patient soul. The red-eyed snake returned the gaze that the boy had caught himself in, if only for a moment, and wondered if the boy was frightened of him. Reptiles weren't exactly the highest on the list of preferred companions, though they certainly weren't as disliked as say... insects. The snake waited until the boy was on his feet, and they listened to the stuttering thanks. Should such an awkward boy really be out here? Well, maybe he wasn't just a kid, but he did look young... Meikaku pulled him up, then released his hand as soon as the contact was no longer needed. He folded his arms. Now that the boy wasn't stumbling around like a newborn fawn, the two of them could see that he was at least not needing a parent. Still shorter, not that it really mattered. Hmm? What, did he see a ghost or- Oh. Rou switched glances between them for a moment. A squirrel dropped its nut somewhere. Words from a distant past lent a hand to clarify the abrupt pause, "It talks!" it said. Immediately after realizing why the boy just stopped, Meikaku loosened his arms to start off his usual overly-gestured way of speaking, but then froze in mid movement. Impressions of the boy being like a rabbit was still strong, and past feelings of watching a young animal die within his grasp surfaced. Meikaku couldn't help but believe that sudden movements would scare him off. It'd be great if the boy left! But what if he called on others and started spewing rumors of a snake boy in the forest? "Ohhhh noooo there's a terror of the forest~!!" How troublesome! "Okay wait! Before you yell or anything, hold it," he half-said half-grit out trying to be clear as possible. He kept his voice barely leveled and tried suppressing any of his stressed annoyance. It was a grand feat. "Yes," he continued and gradually lost his grit, "the snake talks. The snake. Talks." Meikaku gestured at his other not-self's head with dramatic hand waving just to emphasize that it was a very silly thing to freak out over, and hopefully the boy would get the hint. "Yes? This wasn't working was it. "Okay yeah if you still want to scream or run for it at least let us leave first." The black snake bopped his snout against the finger's visible bite wound. It might have been small, but it was still fresh. It'd take a day before he'd stop feeling the tiny sting, and Meikaku twitched at the prod. "Don't be so rude," Rou spoke up for himself. and then flicked his tongue at the boy. "You don't look too out of it, and I don't see a bruise." Even if eyes of ruby were commonly believed to be malevolent, even if the two of them had twice been called a monster's spawn, the truth always held more ground. Maybe Rou and Kaku really were monsters though, if the definition of a monster was anything remotely inhumane. Rou for one, already believed himself to not be a complete person, neither of the two were, because they were simultaneously themselves, together, and separate. Rou already established this as his own truth, already was tolerable of the concept no matter how many times Kaku reassured him, but it did not mean that they were evil monsters. It did not mean, with either red reptilian eyes or red human eyes, that Rou was as corrupt as those stories of greedy beasts. He was no child of misfortune, cursed to herald a day of ends. Though a lie he may have been by nature, he was no liar himself. He was simply Rou, a boy's mind allowed to be nurtured through living, currently in a snake's body, and now offering his worry to the boy in front of them. And while Rou was indeed staring straight at the boy's own eyes, the unwhole persona made no effort to show any intimidation. "What are you talking about? You're too nice," Meikaku grumbled, but the jab had no power behind it. It was just filler words. To the boy, "Look, don't worry about tripping over the legs. It's fine, just keep going wherever you were going." The earlier the boy left, the better. Seriously. Wasn't it suspicious though? This boy, being out here? I don't care why you're here. Just go, please. "Unless you're lost?" Rou suspected. "There is a river beyond that way," he pointed with a flick of his tongue while turning his head toward the right. But the time frame of the boy's arrival still bothered Rou. "If I can ask, how long...? How long have you been moving around here?" From the filtered sunlight that was fading, the day might've moved far, but it was difficult to tell specifics under the canopy. The query perked up Meikaku's interest too, and his furrowed glare widened just a tick; he hadn't even thought of those implications. He had been too preoccupied with the boy's actual appearance to the area after all. The boy didn't look like he had been living out here, too organized. He didn't look like he'd even last, not if he looked as weak as he had with those loose tears. Are you actually weak though? Or a lie... Are you here by coincidence, or for us... Meikaku looked up toward the leaves without moving his head, then to the sides until they rested on the boy again while Rou kept talking with his full attention on the stranger. "Or do you live here...?" Then the branches shook, and Meikaku quickly looked back up. A gust of wind blew through the area, and some leaves even fell from above. Nothing else came though, so Meikaku tried dismissing it. It didn't help that he was still high-strung about everything. Stop it, stop being so paranoid... How unhealthy. Much farther away, was that rumbling? Was that breathing? The nature all around had no answers, no clues. Branches swayed away. Leaves vibrated. A child smiled. |

Carefully, the boy observed the glistening, black snake. Its scales cold and glassy, it seemed motionless like a scarf wrapped around the other boy's neck, supporting the rest of its weight on his shoulders. Its red eyes gave the young brown-haired teenager a little chill down his spine, reminiscent of the very similar feelings he'd once felt when he met Eric's Jessica for the very first time. The surprise accompanied with it was on a similar level, too; except back then, it appeared to be the genuine surprise of another animal having the ability to form words in a human language, while this time, it was more a feeling of astonishment that there were more similar creatures in this world. The fact this snake could talk obviously proved it was magical - but did that mean the other boy was capable of using as well? Most often, that would almost apply as a rule, but Noel could hardly rely on just that. He could've very well been a powerful young wizard, travelling these lands for unknown purposes, carefully hiding his powers and abilities from anyone he ran across, in a safe and wise decision to keep them hidden for as long as it was necessary. That very element of surprise, should it come to a battle, could often be a determining factor in one's victory. Noel gulped at these thoughts, a small droplet of sweat rolling down the side of his face and towards his chin, as he stepped from one foot to the other uncomfortably. It didn't seem like the boy was going to attack him, not after he'd even gotten out of his way to help him up onto his feet and make sure that he was fine. On the other hand though, that tension in the air was fairly obvious to someone like Noel. That feeling of uncomfortableness, anxiety, maybe even paranoia, that coerced the other boy to follow even the smallest of moves Noel made, making him cringe almost unnoticeably every time he did. All of it was preventing Noel from getting rid of that initial fear completely, having a feeling that if he only did as much as a single wrong move, the other would jump at him. That thought scared him. "I-I'm fine, I swear..!" he quickly said in response to the snake's words, his eyes quickly darting from Mei's face to those red eyes, and then back again. "And I'm not going to scream.." he added, a bit quieter, gulping once again. He felt that if he did, the other two would've done whatever they could to make him shut up. And that probably wasn't the scenario that he was aiming for. The best thing to do in this case, seemed to be to get out of here as soon as he possibly could. And when the older boy discarded his worries about having tripped over him and instead suggested for him to move along, it was just the push Noel needed to get going. "Y-yeah, umm.. S-sorry again," he said, making a rather awkward bow towards the duo, before he slowly turned around to head in the direction he came from. Mentally, he was annoyed at himself for having apologized once again, mainly because the boy himself had told him it was fine, as it was. With these thoughts still sort of plaguing his mind even as he'd already made a couple of steps away from the two, it was only when the snake's words reached him, that the boy realized it was true. He froze in mid-step, staying like that for a couple of seconds before holding up his leg like that became too strenuous and he had to place it down on the floor. Slowly, he turned around to face the two once again, this time being slightly further away from them after having made those few steps before having been interrupted. Was it weird, that he was feeling a little less uncomfortable being here than he was in their close vicinity..? The barrage of questions from the snake did catch him a little bit off guard, even though the answer to the first one would come almost immediately, with a small, timid nod, confirming that he truly didn't know where he was. "I'm a-actually.. f-from Magnolia.." he stuttered once again, answering the last question first, not exactly going by any order. After he'd already said it, though, it hit him. Ack. He'd said a bit more than it was necessary for the other to know. A small blush crossed his cheeks once again at that realization, making him start to fumble around in the dirt with the tip of his foot. In a way, he looked like a child that had just been caught trying to steal a candy out of the cupboard after he'd been clearly told not to. He'd try to mask that bit of embarrassment with the next answer, though. "I w-wanted to get to Po-Poinsettia.. they told me, I j-just have to go straight.. but.. t-then I followed this path a-and...." he trailed off. He didn't need to finish the sentence. It was fairly obvious that the consequence was him getting lost and not having even the slightest idea of where he needed to go. He wanted to head off, not just because he needed to get to his destination as it was, but simply because he felt like he wasn't welcome in the boy's presence. But.. if he ventured off now, he could get lost again, and then he'd truly never find his way out of this forest maze. The snake's words that mentioned a river in their vicinity, sparkled up some thoughts though. The boy's memory quickly tried to find the missing pieces and put them together, trying to figure out where the river was in relation to the city he was supposed to head towards. He didn't even notice he'd squinted his eyes a little bit as he tried to recall that piece of information. In the end though, it didn't really work. "I, j-just.." he started saying, having first began talking before thinking, which was what he often did. It was only then that he realized he needed to properly form his thoughts first, before he could ask what he was going to. After all, he didn't want to upset the other one too much, did he? Exhaling softly, until there was no more air in his lungs, the boy felt his heart pounding hard against his chest once again. He needed to calm down a little bit. Taking in the breath once again, the boy was finally able to organize his thoughts well enough. "C-could you just tell me.. w-where I need to head to reach P-Poinsettia..?" he finally asked. It was a lot to ask, he was aware of that. After all, the other boy didn't owe him a thing. Perhaps that was why he felt like the question alone wasn't enough, and he quickly added in a single breath: "..IpromiseIwillgorightawayandwontcomeback!" Even as the words came out of his mouth, the boy realized they might've been a bit hard to understand; but what was said had already been said. Only a slightly deeper blush turning his cheeks more and more scarlet was an indicator that showed he had noticed how hastily he'd said those words. Perhaps he'd wanted to give the impression like he wasn't too scared of the other, and the embarrassment came when he realized it was probably rather obvious. Oh well, he couldn't help himself. If only the boy could point him in the right direction, he'd scurry off and leave him be, like Mei wanted. The sooner he found out where he needed to go, the better it was for both of them. |

Patience was one of Rou's defining factors. Meikaku's? Not so much, but the currently-human boy listened. He stood still and listened to the shorter kid's stuttering words after the latter had turned back around. With the added distance, Meikaku couldn't deny the layer of calm that managed to surface. Or perhaps, calm was the wrong word? It was... not as discomforting. He didn't know the words, but he vaguely realized that he felt less inclined to jump at a moment's notice. It was this strange awareness that let the yellow-eyed boy stand and listen without being as edgy as earlier, but who was paying attention anyway? The entire conversation lasted only about twenty seconds after all, maybe even shorter, and neither Meikaku nor Rou had any reason to think that the boy in front of them was able to drink in information from the tense atmosphere. Either way, Meikaku physically kept to himself. His arms stayed at their sides and he kept his weight centered while quietly listening to the Magnolia boy. It was pretty obvious. The kid was lost. And in a sense, he was still lost, and the only people around to help the Magnolia boy was a half of a human and a snake. Naturally, the next course of action would be to... Meikaku copied one of Rou's habits for just this moment, the moment when the Magnolia boy was trying to catch his breath and thoughts. Meikaku titled his head to the side in a show of patient curiousity. It felt awkward, and he could feel his red hat shift its fluffy tip due to gravity, but he ignored it. This was supposed to be a universal gesture, one done by a variety of creatures, or at least the ones he knew of, and the point of it was to let the Magnolia boy know that he wasn't being ignored. The simple gesture was also to calm himself down as well. He was paranoid. He was paranoid and it was helping no one, and as much as he kept telling himself to calm down, it was much more difficult to do than to say. And, seeing the lost boy in discomfort was only snowballing the effect back and forth in a hopeless spiral of awkwardness between the two. The wind almost breathed in relief when the lost boy was able to speak his request. Directions. Yes, a simple thing that both Meikaku and Rou could supply to the rabbit-like boy. The following string of words however, made Meikaku scrunch his eyebrows in confusion, and then even moreso at the blush the lost boy was starting to acquire. Uh. But at least Rou was there, and the snake-half understood the jumble of words. He also had an idea behind why the lost boy was full of skittering, and so figured it was best to not delay the kid any longer. If anything, the snake would've smiled if his body allowed it, but alas, all he could manage were tongue flicks. "It's okay. You'll need to take a few turns. Go right from here," the snake angled his head, and Meikaku -after recovering face from the lost boy's speedy sentence- pointed in the direction, "and you should run into three trees in a triangle. The bark looks lighter in color for some reason. When you reach those, keep going straight, and you should see water from a clearing." "And then follow the river to Poinsettia in that direction. If you hit the river before the tree-triangle, then walk the opposite direction for the water to reach the city." Having an idea of what to talk about made speaking easier, but after giving the directions, what else was there to say? "...Did you need it repeated?" ...Magnolia was a pretty faraway place to come from, and the boy was going through the forest alone? Granted, so were he and Rou, but... But it wasn't something he particularly wanted to care about. "...But you should be fine. There hadn't been anything prowling at this hour." If that was all the rabbit boy needed, then that would be all to the day. But now that the directions were given, Meikaku was back to noticing the blush that had grown on the kid earlier. It was weird, and thinking about it made Meikaku look away in confused nervousness. It was opposite of anything threatening, and yet it was beginning to put Meikaku back on edge. Except... it was a different edge. It was like a brittle edge, an edge of unknown territory that was neither worrisome nor interesting. It was just weird. Meikaku inhaled through his nose, and then looked back at the boy claiming to be from Magnolia on the exhale. Part of him still wanted to consider the boy like a brown rabbit missing its ears. Like wanting to help prey instead of eating it. "Well, if that's all... And I said it's fine, just take care of yourself." He knew it was best to send the boy off, and he was still on guard enough to not completely leave without making sure the boy also left safely, but he knew that staring at the back of the retreating boy was also not a good option for the embarrassed kid. And so, Meikaku turned around and started walking the other way, slowly though, and made sure to glance behind to the boy. Rou was still wrapped around Meikaku, so the snake didn't have to worry about keeping an eye on the ground. "Remember the triangle!" Rou reminded as they started distancing themselves. After a bit, Rou would comment to Meikaku, "Should we rest somewhere? You seem kind of shaken from that encounter..." "There was something weird..." -- "I smell them~ I feel them~ But I don't see them!" Tendrils snaked along the roots of the trees. The leaves swayed quietly with the wind, but there were no other indications of this child... "I'm hungry..." Edited by Fumus, Jun 24 2014, 03:10 PM.

It was sort of difficult for Noel to figure out exactly how the other boy was feeling at the moment; he was sort of busy with his own vortex of emotions that was swirling inside of his chest like a small tornado. His blush hadn't quite disappeared yet, not after he'd embarrassed himself like that, not being able to even truly articulate the words and stuttering as if he was a seven year old child. Not that his general demeanor was any different from that of an equally aged human offspring; he was shy around strangers, and self-conscious of every little mistake he did or said, which made it even more so difficult for him to deal with the situation. In the end, he came off as really insecure, like a scared little critter that was facing a ferocious carnivore and was looking for a way to escape out of the situation as soon as possible. The same thing was happening here; his swift glances to the left and right every now and then made it seem like he was looking for a way to get out of here, and his responses to the black-haired boy were following that same manner, being quiet and nervous, as if he was afraid the other boy was going to hurt him if he did or said something wrong. Visible relief formed on his face, when the first directions were being given, and his gaze followed where the black-haired boy was now pointing, trying to memorize it all. His face grimaced a bit when more and more directions followed, and he found himself trying to repeat them in his head once again, and then out loud, just in case. "Right, and then straight past the three trees.. no, left at the trees.. I mean, n-no, it was straight.. and what then..? The opposite direction of the riv-.. no, in the same direction as the river is flowing.. Uhmm.." He bit on his lip in frustration; while he would've preferred if the black-haired boy with the snake did repeat everything, he didn't have the heart to ask for it. Instead, he would just make a rather awkward bow towards the boy, in his attempt to show his appreciation for everything he'd done for them, though when he straightened back up, it was clear that the rabbit-like boy was having trouble looking into the other boy's eyes, if anything because that would probably cause his already rather red cheeks to turn scarlet. Luckily, that was all there was to their talk; so when the last directions were revealed and the boy got the chance to thank the other, he was already on his way, scurrying in the opposite direction of the black-haired boy, down the path that he'd showed to him. His steps were rather quick and erratic, and he was walking quite stiffly, keeping his eyes focused up ahead on the road, and not daring to even take a glance backwards. His ears were focused though, listening closely to what was happening behind him, which was why he sort of jumped when the other boy reminded him once again he needed to remember the triangle of trees he would get to if he kept going down that path. "Y-yeah.." he mumbled more to himself than anyone else, the other most probably not being able to hear him anymore because of the distance that was put in between the two at this point, and kept on walking, if slightly faster now. Soon enough, the path would lead them deeper into the woods, and the other boy would slowly begin to disappear behind him, not that Noel would really know since he didn't turn around not even once. It took him a little while, even as he walked, to calm down a bit from the confrontation that he'd just gone through. He could still feel his heart beating hard against his chest, and his cheeks were only just now starting to return to their normal coloring. He didn't stop for quite a while, at least not until he reached that clearing where the triangle of trees was. That's where he finally stopped, and he gulped a bit, trying to sort his head out a little bit. What was all that..? The whole confrontation was really.. weird. Who was the boy? Why did he have that snake? What was he doing in the middle of the forest, all alone? What intentions did he have..? It was all a bit creepy and scary, and the same time slightly suspicious, but Noel didn't want to go back now. He was actually glad that it all ended without something unnecessarily bad happening. With the weird feeling in his chest, it almost felt like it could have. The boy exhaled, then let out a soft sigh, shaking his head a bit to get the thoughts out of his mind. Then, he blinked as he looked up at the trio of trees and then tried to recall what the boy had told him about where he needed to go next. "Hmmh.. Left at the trees.. no, wait, right.. no, wasn't it straight ahead..? Nnhh.." he groaned a bit to himself in frustration. He wish he'd listened more closely, or at least that his memory was a bit better than it was. Puffing his cheeks out and letting out another sigh, the boy reached up to his temples and rubbed them a bit, trying to calm down, so he could remember the correct path. "Don't worry, it's over already, the boy is gone, and I just gotta find my way to Poinsettia now.. Which way did he say again..? Think, Noel, think.." |

Is he really going to be okay? was the question Meikaku couldn't quite ask, not when he also wanted to get on his own way. Not when the other boy tried to bow in a painful awkwardness, not when the rabbit continued to blush and not quite look at Meikaku as if it'd help with disappearing from sight. Meikaku felt like he should've said something, but he also didn't want to, so instead, the three of them turned the other way after their last gestures. The other boy lingered in Meikaku's mind even as Rou asked him for the next course of action. -- The human was sitting on a log, the earlier interaction still clear in Meikaku's memory minus the wariness. Thinking back on it now, he couldn't deny how startling it was to wake up in the body with another person so close in the area, but otherwise... Maybe his own behavior was uncalled for after all. The meeting with that boy was only recent though, so Meikaku directed his attention to earlier in the week. Those people from Coreopsis have probably stopped chasing us. They delivered their message, but what more did they want? Still stressed about those unknown dangers, Meikaku let himself sigh tiredly. Rou understood well enough, and the black snake tightened his body around the boy's arm in a gesture of comfort, one that Meikaku appreciated. "We should head back to Empyrea." He silently agreed, but didn't stand up yet. Instead, he let his yellow eyes wander around. This forest was beautiful on its own, hues of its namesake covering every whichway. The colors quietly rained around as old leaves gave way to the breeze, a sign of renewal for the newer layers. It was calming if he let himself breathe it in, but this forest was a world unfamiliar to him. No, the world he was familiar with involved interference and static, machinery and lies, people and misunderstandings. Bidding farewell to the forest he refused to feel wistful for, Meikaku stood up and started walking back. The best way to return was backtracking to Poinsettia and catching the train. "Do you think that guy got out?" "Maybe... If not, we might see him on the way." Well, if they do run into the rabbit boy, they might as well help him... was what Rou hoped for. Thinking about him was making Meikaku feel irked again though. The entire interaction was a train wreck. He realized he didn't care if he scared the boy, he usually intimidated people without trying to, but he really didn't want he kid getting hopelessly lost just because of misheard directions. In a way, the Magnolia boy was probably as bad with directions as Rou was, which only made Meikaku more conflicted. On one hand, not running into the boy meant the kid might have found his way, and then Meikaku wouldn't have to think about him ever again. On the other hand, meeting the kid once again would ensure that the boy made it to the city just fine. What a pain. "What's that?" Along the ground, a gray, metallic strip of something was winding out from a bush. It was very strange and very out of place. Meikaku stopped for a moment, and then walked around the bush. The metallic strip's length stopped from underneath the bush, but neither of them felt inclined to touch it. "I don't remember seeing this here earlier..." Whatever it was, it seemed to be a scrap of trash. "Did someone else come around?" "I haven't seen anything," came the reply, and Rou had been keeping an eye out during the entire walk. Not being able to do anything else about it, Meikaku left the metallic thing and continued walking. Some time passed until Meikaku reached the spot where the lost boy had stumbled over, and heard something weird. ...? -- There in the small clearing was a person. A young child? No, not a child. It was a girl, maybe in her early teens? She wore a simple white dress, plain in design and simple in usage. "Hello? Is someone there?" She looked around, brown eyes gleaming innocently from the slowly setting sun. She stood barefoot by the tree where Rou had earlier leaned against for the body switch. She stood exactly on the spot. And she looked toward the sound of boots flattening the dirt. At the sight of the black-clothed human and snake emerging unknowingly from the path, she stared. She stared into the red slits of the snake just as Meikaku stared back with a raised eyebrow in question. Rou stared back as well, but he couldn't hold it up. In a moment, his body retreated into an elevated S on reflex from being unnerved. In response to his other not-half, Meikaku glared at the girl. "Hello? Is that you?" she asked, with no hint of fear in her voice. Rou hissed a warning into the headphones. Well, that much Meikaku could figure. At first he thought maybe she was lost too, but... "Who are you talking about?" he asked back. She replied with a ghastly grin. "Hello! I'm looking for food!" Okay, that wasn't the question. She took a merry step toward them, and Meikaku wasn't sure what to think. "Hello!" "Oy, is that all you can say?" At the demanding question, the girl crossed her arms, and then proceeded to pout. Okay, neither of them expected that. "No..." But then she grinned again. "How about... I'm hungry! Her skin started cracking, at which point Meikaku knew something was off. "I found food!" Rou hissed threateningly, but it did nothing to stop her skin from peeling. "I found Mei!" That name. That name. Metallic bands grew from under her skin and begun to wrap, twist, and twirl. Her dress was lifted off to reveal a silver body, plated just like the rest of the form that was forming in excitement. Her legs were replaced by winding anchors of silver bands that gave her an increasing height, and her arms transformed into giant missile-looking appendages. Stunned by her knowledge of that name, it was only when Meikaku had to start craning his neck that he jumped back and ran. He didn't spare the dangerous thing another look as he tried keeping his distance. What was tha- Why!? What is that thing!? Did those Coreopsis people send such a thing!? No, no it didn't sound like it! Run, I need to get away, I can't fight that! Don't get caught, don't get caught! were the few thoughts that were actually coherent enough to register. Fear and urgency were the primary feelings that fueled him. Would they have to fight!? "The ground!" Silver bands snaked toward Meikaku. They fanned out in their search, eager to grab their target, but Meikaku would be damned if he let those things catch him. Would his poison be enough to damage that thing? He turned and let the forest become their obstacle, but with the direction he was being tricked to go toward, it was only a matter of time before he reached the open river. It was all too sudden, and all he could focus on was making sure he didn't slow down. |

Noel's thoughts were a mess at the moment. Desperately trying to recall what the boy with the snake had told him about where he needed to make a turn, the kid was slowly but surely beginning to realize with horror, that he really and truly couldn't remember. He could practically hear the boy's words in his mind, but they were all jumbled up, as if they weren't uttered in the right order. The more times he attempted to repeat the instructions in his head, the more distorted they were, differentiating from the original to the point where the boy knew fully well he got them wrong. And yet, he had no idea how to make them right again. It was all his memory's fault, the memory of a goldfish that had been accompanying him for as long as he could remember, making his life unnecessarily difficult where it didn't need to be. And then, there was that boy, as well. After all, the brown-haired boy didn't normally have trouble with short-term memory. It was the events of things that had long since passed, which gave him the most trouble, rather than something that happened barely a couple of hours or minutes ago. So, by all means, he should've remembered what the snake boy had told him about the directions - and yet he hadn't. Was it his fault..? No, he couldn't possibly blame the other boy for his own bad memory! But then again.. there was something about him that just felt.. different from everyone else he had met up until that point. A vibe, one that he couldn't quite determine whether it was good or bad, with the only exception being the fact he had no idea how it made him feel. Well, flustered, for sure, and sort of shy and unable to properly articulate his thoughts and convey his feelings, like he'd already displayed during their first encounter. But there had to be more than just that, as well. If it was merely that, he wouldn't have lingered on these thoughts for so long, neither would he have been thinking about the boy even now that the latter was already long gone. "I wonder if he's still where he was earlier.." he thought to himself, recalling the glade they'd met on, as well as the tree that the snake boy had been leaning against, seemingly asleep. He'd also remembered how he'd stumbled and tripped over him, and then the whole.. embarrassing situation that followed. It was funny how he could remember pretty much every little detail of that, but as soon as his memory fast-forwarded to the explanation of where he needed to go to get out of that forest and reach his desired location, it was like the tape was damaged. Stupid mind, playing tricks on him. He practically let out out a groan of discomfort, tightly closing his eyes, as if that could help him remember it, but to no avail. Just about when the boy officially concluded that there was nothing he could possibly do to recover his memory, a feeling in the gut struck him. It was an unpleasant feeling, like something bad was about to happen. And it was connected to the boy that he'd met just earlier. Noel often had feelings like that. Ever since the young boy had started to delve deeper into his own being, trying to understand himself and everyone around him, he'd slowly but surely started to develop something that some people he knew would call 'Sixth Sense'. It was often an ability, affiliated with animals, who could usually tell something bad was going to happen before it actually did, their forewarning saving their own and perhaps other lives as well. Noel's was something akin to that, and yet different, in a way. It wasn't dependent on the changes in the weather and in the atmosphere like that of the aforementioned animals was, but instead searched for fluctuations of magical particles in the air that were.. abnormal. Yes, the boy could do that, for he was a mage. Of the famous guild Fairy Tail, nonetheless, though the scarf that he loved to wear so much, would often hide the marking of his own guild, that was neatly printed out on the side of his neck. "Something's wrong.." the boy murmured out into the forest, to no one in particular. It didn't seem like anything was happening. The forest was quiet, the birds were humming and chirping, and the flow of the nearby river was filling the air with pleasant sounds of water rolling over the stones. However, the more seconds that passed, the more the boy was sure about the truth of his statement. If anyone else would've been there with him at that time, they would've probably said he was imagining things. That there was nothing else but the pleasant sounds of nature surrounding him, and that the boy was likely hearing things. But his senses transcended 'just' hearing, sight and the other three that humans most often relied on. The sixth sense told him there was something going on, and throughout the years, the boy had learned to trust it. If it was telling him that the boy he'd met earlier was in danger, then he definitely was. Even if he was far away enough that the other five senses couldn't quite tell that something was off. At the same time, that meant that there was not much time left. If something was happening, or was about to happen any second, then every fraction of a moment could be decisive. The boy's eyes widened, and he swiftly turned in a certain direction. "There..!" he exclaimed out in a hushed voice. In the next moment, he was already running, picking up speed as he tried to sprint as fast as he possibly could, to get there in time. "He's already far away, but I think I can make it.. I have to..!" The time was running out... |
