Hey everyone, it's me, your Lord and Savior, your Once and Future King, and your new Admin-for-Life Unlimit Sendo. I'm here to drop some turnbuckle-diving elbows and awesome news. There's been some relatively small updates to rulings regarding summon familiars and single summons. Additionally, there's also been a pretty big update in regards to the AP shop which reorganizes it and adds a ton of new stuff. You can find that in the AP Shop section under Item Creation. Check it out.

Southgate park - a fair place for a traveler to take a breather, sit down, and enjoy the scenery for a bit. Alot of people were already present, having picnics, shopping at the nearby stores, or just taking a walk through the park itself. Varriden was one of those people, though he was doing none of the three at the time. He was walking through one of the many grassy fields in the park, a focused look on his face as he stared at the text in one of his many books, absorbing the knowledge on the page. He'd long-since learned to study up when he could. Knowledge was a very useful resource, and one that made itself useful many times over. More so with his own magic, which allowed him to study the magic of other mages and then produce that magic of his own accord. He was still in the process of gathering new spells - and perhaps forever would be, as long as he continued to meet new mages and witness new techniques - but eventually, with time and some dedication, he would be a walking encyclopedia of magical knowledge and techniques.

He walked over to the tree near the park's center, turning around to sit at the base of the trunk, adjusting his seat for a moment to make himself comfortable before leaning back to rest his back against the ancient bark. I bet this guy could tell a few stories, he thought, glancing at the tree with a slight smile. Witnessing every event that had ever transpired in this park since the day the first shoots of the tree sprung up from beneath the dirt. Varriden flipped to the next page in the book, being careful not to crease or tear the page - he'd learned to keep his things in working order during his days in the academy. While a page that was marked up or dog-eared didn't affect the knowledge on the page, it helped it look nicer, which was better state for the book as a whole, Varriden thought. A nicer-looking book just feels better than an old, worn one, though he wouldn't turn one down if offered.

Elene had decided to come to Magnolia, specifically the park, mainly because she heard it was a nice place to relax, and she knew relaxing was what she needed. She spends so much of her time helping other people her own welfare gets pushed aside often. Today was going to be a day for her to feel the earth on her feet and talk to complete strangers. Also, she just hoped no one was going to destroy the park today for whatever reason. Elene has always had an interest in people who look different and the man leaning up against the tree was dressed very uniquely. The book he held looked new, so maybe he liked to read. Elene was very social but this man made her feel shy for some reason. She approached him nonetheless, squatting down so she could read a few of the words. It looked like a book more for gaining facts than entertainment.

"Hello! Sorry to disturb your reading sir, but what is that book your reading?"

Elene tried to be formal, mostly because she preferred known politeness to mistaken rudeness. The man before her was simple, at least to Elene. He seemed the type to like knowledge and that was something she admired. She could never get her hands on good books with facts. The books she found usually were gushy romances that made her sick.

Varriden was reading his book when he heard someone walking past - not unusual, given the number of people in the park - but this one's footsteps were slightly different. He glanced up as the person in question sat down next to him by the tree, peering over his shoulder at what he was reading. The girl didn't appear to be wearing any shoes. Ah, that explains the noise difference, he thought idly. At her question of his reading material, he curled one finger over the edge of the page he was reading to save his place and shut the book, showing her the cover. "A Guide to Runes. I know a fair amount of them, but I like to keep my references handy, and fresh in my mind. Less trawling through books to do the next time I actually need to translate something."

He glanced at the girl, the irises in his eyes glowing gold for just an instant. "Ah, I see you possess magic within you." Varriden shut the book completely and stood up, brushing the bits of dirt and grass from his backside that he'd gotten when he sat down against the tree. "This may be rude of me to ask, but I'd like to see this magic you have inside you." Varriden raised one hand, and another book appeared, but this one purely of magic, slowly swinging open. "You see, I possess magic myself - a magic known as Archive, a storage area for magic and knowledge. I travel to find new sources of information and magical know-how, and while I didn't expect to see any magic today, I wouldn't mind collecting data on your own, if you're willing."

It was an off day for the band so Takeshi dressed for the weather rather than the women. The grey pea-coat he'd shrugged his shoulders into before stepping out onto the back porch was well worn, loved, though the slim fitting dark jeans that encased his legs were still stiff and new. He tucked a hand into his pocket rather than doing up the toggles of his jacket, inviting the cold to seep into his bones as he took in a fortifying breath and set about his morning chores. Gardening was a hobby of his. Tending to the plants, patiently measuring their growth, and ultimately enjoying the culmination of a simpler form of life was a pleasurable thing to him, but today it was simply work. Takeshi moved about his backyard like an atomoton, with his sight shut to the simple beauty of the world. He didn't have time or care for it this morning, today was one of his bad days.

Excluding his coworkers Takeshi had few friends (unless you counted Yo-Shino's fans, which he didn't) and even fewer distractions available to him. He generally liked it that way. Work, sleep, run, cook, clean, read, muse, and begin again. In spite of his idol status Takeshi was a simple man, a self contained man, and was usually quite satisfied with his life but today was proving bothersome - there was just too much time for thinking. Thinking about her, and how one moment can irreparably sunder a life; thinking about the 'collateral damage' his own life had become. It'd been ten years, 4 months, 21 days since the accident but his heart stubbornly refused to acknowledge time, or anecdotes about healing old wounds. The grief was still fresh and it bled into his guts in a way that made his every step feel heavy. Though the sun peeked from behind grey clouds and the promise of a blue sky was eminent, even rainbows could not life his mood. Takeshi wasn't normally the sort to believe in signs, fate, or folklore... but how often did a rainbow 'light in ones backyard? Giving in to the childish impulse to walk blindly, with eyes turned heavenward for guidance, he followed it... and it reminded him of her. Every wonderful, beautiful thing reminded him of her.

The rainbow narrowed as he neared its end, and a sigh, a great and shoulder slumping exhale, was all he could muster in disappointment. It would seem that the universe was giving up on him and his unshakable melancholy. He could hardly fault it, today was one of those days where he wanted to give up on himself too. He should have stayed in bed. Should have hibernated through the dark times, weathering it with his subconscious mind for a winter coat - a barrier between himself and knowing, knowing with absolute waking certainty, that it was his fault.

His silly impulse hadn't amounted to much, he was cross with himself, disappointed and disgusted, that some small part of him had thought - hoped - that it would. Takeshi would have turned on his heels and headed home if not for the turn of a head and an approaching figure, such subtle actions at the frame of his vision brought two peoples into focus from behind the shading of an old growth tree... at the end of his rainbow.

Takeshi wasn't a sentimental person, but she had been. It was for her curiosity and wonder, hope, and memory that he did the most unnatural thing to his being and advanced when propriety dictated he should retreat. His destined company were a man and woman - a pair? that's all he need on his conscience - but it was to the books clustered around the man that Takeshi's attentions soon turned. They'd been talking before he'd cut in (at least, the man had) but there was no polite segue he could offer to excuse himself, and so Takeshi simply drove onward in his imposition. The ends of a scarf - pink, and wound about Takeshi's neck - dusted the corner of the other man's book as Takeshi bent down to examine the open page. He recognized it, though it was hardly a surprise. Takeshi made great friends with books and kept a small library for company in his home. "This is out of date," came his eventual remark. His tone was soft enough to spare it the severity of his dry, hoarse throat.

" The author's daughter has since released another volume based on the notes her father likely would have penned into proper format if not for his passing. You ought to read it -- assuming you picked up this volume intentionally." Takeshi was fumbling. Though his words were genuine he wasn't truly the sort of person who could easily overcome something as awkward as an uninvited self insinuation into what looked to be a rather romantic interlude. He hadn't been near enough to hear the words exchanged between man and woman, but why else would two peoples meet in a scenic and secluded park? Takeshi blushed at the implication of himself as a third wheel in such a scenario, and moved to straighten up, to get out of their way.

She saw the gold flash in his eyes and it startled her a little, but she thought it looked very pretty. Runes, always runes. The past couple years it seemed runes were becoming more popular as a study subject. Elene herself never tried to learn any, mainly because she didn't have the time. This guy seemed rather smart and she enjoyed smart people to converse with. When he mentioned Archive she knew what he was talking about but had never had a chance to talk to an Archive mage about their magic.

"I don't mind at all. I'm not very powerful but I can tell you about my magic."

She said, smiling at the man and his mysterious open book. She had no idea what to do so she just stood there smiling awkwardly.

Varriden was glad to hear that the girl was willing to show him her magic, and showed his approval with a smile. "Glad to hear you're willing to help - I always like getting new data on a magic or type of magic." Before he could continue further, he was interrupted - by a rainbow of all things descending upon them, no less. Odd, he thought. The moisture in the air at this level shouldn't be nearly enough for the rainbow to touch the ground, but it was. Through it stepped a man who's own clothing colors were drastically different to those of the rainbow, wearing a gray jacket and dark jeans, an odd constrast to the pink scarf wound about his neck. The first thing the man mentioned was Varriden's book, and that it was out-of-date. "I'm aware." Varriden said. "I have this copy on purpose. Newer editions sometimes make minor edits that cut some material out. And with a different author, the chances of different material and a different approach are far higher, even if the two authors are related. Best to get both volumes, so I don't miss any potential information. Thank you for the update, though. I appreciate the concern."

Turning back to Elene, he said. "It's alright. I said I wanted to know about your magic, but in my case, that doesn't involve you actually telling me the old-fashioned way. I just need to see you use your magic, and my own magic allows me to decipher the way you used your magic and the type, providing the information I need. So go ahead and use it. On me, if you need to. Rest assured that I can handle any magic you can toss my way, and I can put up a defense if needed." Varriden would have asked the newcomer to take a step back, but he'd beaten him to the punch, already shuffling back a bit. Varriden fired up his Decipher tech, his eyes glowing briefly before being overlapped with a magical rune-like circle over his irises. "Alright, I'm ready."

The rainbow man was rather unexpected and he seemed very unique, to say the least. She shouldn't judge though, as her own apparel is also odd. She turned to the newcomer.

"You may want to close your eyes sir. I've been known to knock people out if they watch me oerform magic."

She winked at the man and prepared her mind. She closed her eyes and placed her hands together in a prayer-like fashion. She smiled as she imagined the gold boys reaction to her flash. She hooed the man with the pink scarf was smart enough to take her warning, otherwise he may end up punching her. She opened her eyes and said

"Fairy Flash!"

The resulting light being as intense as always. She saw the gold biy standing there with his gold eyes and the pink scarfed man. She hoped they could both see soon. She didn't want them to walk into a tree after all.

The man's response was intelligent and Takeshi would have responded if not for the quick turn of conversation -- magic? The way the man described his was startlingly similar to Takeshi's own abilities. He'd never met another archive mage before (not that Takeshi considered himself much of a mage to begin with). His lips parted, a half dozen questions on his tongue, but before he could lend voice to thought the girl interrupted , reminding Takeshi she was there. "Close my, w -- !!"

He never finished his sentence. The wink she tossed his way was disarming, but the blinding flash that came after was even more so. He saw her magic before it even properly manifested.. the brilliantly colored tendrils of raw energy that coursed through a mage's body, normally operating on such a low frequency as to be unobtrusive to his sight, gathered at her core, focusing into working purpose before being unleashed upon her command. Despite the ample warning both the girl herself and Takeshi's own awareness of magic provided Takeshi was caught unaware and with eyes wide open. It was far from his most graceful moment...

His vision blurred with sparks not unlike the static found between channels of a viewing lacrima and Takeshi stumbled back, tripping over the man at the base of the tree and landing on his ass with a hardcover book digging into his spine. Takeshi groaned! It took several moments for the mortification of his own clumsy stupidity to recede enough for him to even consider facing the two people he'd made an abject fool of himself in front of. When he unclenched his eyes - blinking rapidly to try and assuage his assaulted irises - his own magic activated, uselessly so, in manifesting a pair of dark rimmed glasses mounted on the bridge of his nose. His irreverence and disinterest in his own magic resulted in a lack of practice, and a consequent lack of control. The accidental release of magic energy further compounded his embarrassment and colored his pale face with a rosy blush. " I -- I, this doesn't normally happen to me," he began, feeling every bit as ashamed as a disappointing boyfriend though he regained his sanity before uttering the words 'It'll be better next time, I promise!'.

Takeshi kept his head turned away from the two of them to avoid meeting their eyes, though curiosity compelled him to engage the two for answers if nothing else. If he believed the rainbow led him here (and he did.. much as it shamed him to admit) then he had to believe that Ai had a reason for making him look a fool in front of complete strangers. The other man's magic was a likely place to start... if he could just figure out which blurred image was the real man. "... That flash - her magic - you analyzed it just now..?" His tone was tentative, Takeshi was trying is best to mask his own eager interest. " I've never done such a thing myself, though I understand the principle. Can you see it too? The magic I mean.. the lights.." he closed his mouth abruptly, having just realized how nuts he must sounds. Just because they shared the same magic type didn't necessarily mean they perceived magic the same way, visually. What a stupid assumption he'd made - par 2 for the course.

Takeshi moved to stand up, eager to be out of their way and on with an all together less embarrassing life, but winced and wobbled in trying to do so. His vision was still impaired and his motor skills were likewise inhibited. A blank expression - as if in disbelief - overcast his features before the sheer stupidity of the situation won out and Takeshi's face broke into a grin, and a laugh. " I should have closed my eyes," he agreed, vaguely looking in the direction of the several blurred copies of the girl who'd cast the spell, the good nature of his smile making it clear that he was capable of self deprecating humor and didn't at all blame her for his predicament.

After a brief word of warning - and what was either an overly-friendly gesture or a mild flirt - the girl turned back to Varriden and used her technique, which ended up manifesting as a brilliant flash of light, Varriden wincing as his eyes snapped shut. "Ah, okay, I'll admit I didn't expect a flash-bang technique like that, but thankfully I got the data before I got the flash." He slowly opened his eyes - it wasn't the blindness he'd expected, but the affect on his vision was still there. Not unlike when someone looked right into a camera when the flash went off. Blinding, but short-lasting. "A rather nice support tech. Makes for a decent distraction. The blurriness helps the enemies attacks become sloppy, as well. The effect isn't too bad at this level, but perfected, this could be a royal pain in the backside if used at the right time."

As his vision cleared, he looked at the other man - Varriden himself had chosen to remain still after the flash to avoid bumping into anyone, and he was fairly sure the girl, knowing the blinding effect, wouldn't put herself too close to the two of them after using it, but he wasn't sure if the newcomer caught her brief warning. The man had been hit by the effect, clearly, but he was wearing sunglasses. Did he have those before the tech went off? Varriden thought to himself. I think I would have remembered something that dark, that close to his pink scarf. The man began speaking of analyzing techs as well, however, and Varriden swiftly forgot about the little sunglasses mystery. "Analyze.....are you an Archive mage as well?" Varriden said, a surprised smile crossing his face. "I'll admit, I've never met another Archive mage. Quite an interesting encounter. Enlighten me - what medium do you use for your storage of spells? Runes? Glyphs? Images? Scrolls? I can imagine all sorts of mediums that could apply, but I'm curious to see what ones are actually used besides my own."

At the man's comment of closing his eyes, Varriden looked back at the girl. "I would have closed my eyes, but my effect is based in my eyes," Varriden said, tapping under one of his own eyes with an index finger, pointing out the magic circle over his iris that was already fading, "So even if I knew the exact effect beforehand, I'd have to keep my eyes open in order to learn it. One of the few drawbacks to this method of collection. It had granted me substantial powers in return, however."

The gold Archive mage was very interesting. The two of them seemed to analyze her magic differently, but the gold one explained it so well she was surprised. He was right, and he knew more about her magic than she did. That made his ability extremely powerful, especially in combat situations as he could learn his opponents magic nearly instantly. She liked him, and the other one, the Gray Archive saw the essence of her magic. She knew she had to tap into her soul to use her magic, so maybe he saw her soul. That made her blush slightly, as he would be the first to see her soul, literally.

"Sorry about that, but your right. I use it to distract and then I knock the disoriented person on the ground with my staff. Or my friend with me at the time does that. I need to work on the power though, it affects my friends too, so maybe I can develop it enough to not do that."

She smiled at the two boys, one clad in gray, one in gold. The gold was very scholarly, probably due to his love of books and obviously extensive education. Elene could never hope to match him in knowledge or wit, but she could scare the crap out of him with her flash. The gray mage she didn't know much about, but he seemed nice enough, and she was glad he wasn't mad at her for causing him to fall over. She found him attractive, in an awkward sort of way. Probably because of his shyness and excited talking. She found those cute. The pink scarf probably had a meaning she didn't understand, but it was odd for a guy to wear something like that.

"So what are your names? I'm not sure we've had proper introductions. My name is Elene Stormwake. It's a pleasure to meet the two of you."

She smiled happily, for she was happy to have met two Archive mages in the same day. They may have contrasted each other in color, but both seemed genuinely intrigued by the other. Elene was the outsider but she didn't mind, they could talk magic and trade stories and she would listen and smile. She was content to spend the day with these two, it promised to be interesting.
