Fairy Tail Guild RP Current News

Hey everyone, it's me, your Lord and Savior, your Once and Future King, and your new Admin-for-Life Unlimit Sendo. I'm here to drop some turnbuckle-diving elbows and awesome news. There's been some relatively small updates to rulings regarding summon familiars and single summons. Additionally, there's also been a pretty big update in regards to the AP shop which reorganizes it and adds a ton of new stuff. You can find that in the AP Shop section under Item Creation. Check it out.

Harvest was finally done throughout most of Fiore, and with it, winter was fast approaching. Ah, winter. Along with the rainier spring years, the worst times of the year for a travelling merchant. Luckily for Sierra, right now she wasn't travelling on business, but rather for her own sake. It was the perfect time of year for a little relaxation, and though it wasn't the most luxurious place in Fiore, the fine old (heh. heh.) village of Tully was the perfect place to get a little peace and quiet to wind down from a busy year.

She had made arrangements for a room at an inn that their family had visited every winter when she had been a child, the Lakewest, and arrived in the later parts of the morning. To her surprise, some of the locals had seemed uneasy around her at first, until they had recognized her as Nash's daughter. When she'd asked what they were worried about, they had simply insisted that it was nothing that she should worry about and changed the topic to tales of harvests come and gone. Clearly, she could tell, they were as worried for her as they had been of her not long ago.

The morning had gone quietly, for the most part, and she had spent it socializing with many of her father's old friends and clients. She'd even managed to get a few minor contracts, though she suspected they were mostly out of pity. Well, work was work. In the early part of the afternoon, however, there was the sound of a single hunting horn. The two elderly gentlemen she had been speaking with jolted upright at the sound, and they started trying to herd her towards a nearby building with anxious, nervous expressions.

Sierra was confused. What was going on here? Ignoring the old men's pleas to the contrary, she slipped around them and started off towards the sound. If no-one was going to tell her what was going on, she'd have to find out for herself.

"Hrm. . . getting colder each day. Winter's coming, it seems like. Which means that I just missed harvest. . . oh well. I'll be needing to get some more clothes, though, it seems; I can't be wearing my Mission Clothing any time my traveling ware gets damaged blast it!"

Lucian today found himself journeying from Poinsettia to some other city, he wasn't exactly sure which one he wanted to go to yet, and decided to take one of the more central routes. That would take him to his next reststop, Tully Village. By all accounts, it was a great place for a wanderer like himself. Old village, good history, townsfolk who wouldn't be quite so rude to him as some people in the larger cities were. . . Not to mention it was said to have some fairly good inns to rest at. All in all, it was looking like it would be a peaceful little stop before he headed off.

Oh how wrong he would be.

His grumbling aside, it really was getting nippy out. Even though his overcoat and other things that comprised his Mission Clothing were fairly warm, his head and uncovered fingers were getting a little bit more than cold. At least with his fingers, he could bring them into his coat. He would just look silly if he brought his head in as well. He would look like some over sized turtle or something. Even if there weren't any other people out on the road at the moment, he needed to preserve some shred of his dignity damn it! At least he was getting closer to the village. He could see it waaay off in the distance.

Sigh. . . that's at least an hour off still. Best get moving, then. . .

Lucian's pace picked up a little bit, but it wouldn't be enough to put a noticeable dent in his arrival time. The fact that it was a bit windy and accentuated the cold feelings in the air didn't help much either. Only the fact that he could force himself to be calm stopped him from shouting out expletives as he smacked his foot against a loose piece of stone in the road. Only by repeating 'It'll be worth it, it'll be worth it, it'll be worth it' again and again in his mind did he not go utterly insane from the cold and slightly dull throbbing pain in his foot.

At last, he got within a much closer distance to the village, a smile finally dawned on his face. He'd made it!

Finally! I should go find the inn before anything else. I wonder what kind of food they serve here? There's only one way to find out I suppose! Onwards!

Unfortunately, his good luck was to be for not. A hunting horn's call sounded through the village, and even Lucian, who wasn't in the village proper yet, could hear it. It was just a regular hunting horn. Nothing odd about that. Something about it though. . . Something about it set him on edge. The smile froze on his face. His eyes widened slightly as his happiness melted away. Cool, calculating eyes replaces ones filled with joy just moments ago. His smile turned into a neutral line on his face, his fingers unconsciously making movements towards his blade. His survival instincts were screaming at him, 'BAD THINGS COMING! BAD THINGS COMING!'.

You know. . .

A traitorous thought began.

You could just. . .leave them to whatever that is. You could just leave and go-

Lucian quashed that thought with all the mental might he could muster. To hell with the fact that he was a little cold! To effing hell with the fact that his toe hurt a bit! These people might need his help damn it, and he wouldn't be a coward and run away from it! Blast it, he was raised better than that! What would his parents think if they could see him now!? No, he had to go help them if they needed help. If they needed it, it was his duty to go and aid them. That was how he was raised blast it! He couldn't abandon them, even if he didn't know them! It might not even be something bad. . . Right? Maybe?

Were my luck only so good. . .

Lucian entered the village, senses on high alert. There was trouble afoot. . .

As if by magic, almost everyone in the village of Tully had disappeared from the streets, and the main street was ghostlike as the fiery-haired girl strode down it. In the distance she could see a small cloud of dust coming down the road, approaching steadily until it became three shadows. Shadows approaching at quite a clip, and the reason was soon made obvious. They were on horseback. Sierra sighed as her keen eyes noted the tattered states of the poor beasts, but they galloped bravely on, only slowing as they reached the village borders.

A single elderly man, older than the rest that she had seen, hobbled out from a large wooden lodge. His snowy-white hair was uneven and patchy at places, and he had to support himself with a cane just to walk. He seemed oblivious to her presence at first, but only sighed and shook his head upon spotting her. Years of experience had taught him that when young people made up their minds about something, reasoning with them was impossible. The look of resignation on his face was heartwrenching, but Sierra tore her eyes away from it towards the three newcomers on horseback.

The central figure was a man in tattered leathers with dark brown hair, carrying a sword that was pitted and rusted from improper care. He was quite muscular, but carried himself with an awkwardness that suggested that he used the weapon more like a metal club than a sword. An amateur, then. His companion to the left didn't seem of much higher stock; a redhead like herself, he carried a spear that almost seemed as if it'd been cobbled together in some backyard shack. Though it looked functional enough against things that didn't resist, a good solid block should reduce it to little more than a stick.. or so she hoped.

The last man, furthest to the right, was also the most withdrawn. With bristly black hair, and hefting a sturdy iron axe at his side, his equipment was in the best condition of the three. He seemed a little distant, though, and Sierra wasn't even sure if he was paying on to anything that was going on around him. An airhead? Or simply someone without an ongoing interest in whatever fracas was about to occur?

Her thoughts were interrupted by the sound of a sword whistling through the air. It missed the point of actually touching anything, but the sound itself was enough to intimidate the elder that had come out to negotiate with them. She had expected something like this, but the more time she spent sizing them up, the less time she would have to flatten these gentlemen before the split up and started causing trouble elsewhere. Slipping her broom out from it's normal place snug under her pack, she made her way to stand between the riders and the old man they had been threatening.

"Excuse me, but I think you gentlemen picked the wrong place. See, this town is under my protection at the moment, so if you'd like to leave before I discipline you like your mothers should have, that would be grand."

Sierra's amber eyes flashed with mischief at the shocked gasp from the elderly man behind her. The laughter of the spear bearing rider reached her ears, and she decided that he would be the one to go down first. Now... if only there was some kind of opening to make the first move?

Well, this is certainly something new. . .

Lucian had hidden himself in one of the few shady alleys near the main street. Due to the dark colors of his clothing, it further helped to hide him. Unfortunately, however, it was in the afternoon. Which meant he couldn't quite be as stealthy as he wanted to be. Still, after hiding his fairly bright blond hair, he could stay hidden fairly well as long as he stuck to the shadows. By luck, no one seemed to have noticed him yet either. He planned to keep it that way until he figured out exactly what was going on.

Peeking out into the street, the only people he could see at the moment were a young lady with red hair and a broom(?), and an older man. Well it certainly wasn't either of these two that were tripping his senses, that was for sure. Lucian called it a hunch, but the girl looked like she was out here to protect this place as well. The old man. . . He didn't really know. Negotiate? Diplomat? Something old-man like? Eh, it didn't really matter at the moment, so he wasn't going to dwell on him.

A few whole minutes of nothing later and the main quarry arrived. Three men rode into his line of sight. All three were on horseback, so that sort've gave them an advantage. Of course, horses could be spooked if they weren't properly trained, and Lucian knew a few ways to spook them fairly well. . . That could actually turn the battle in he and presumably the red haired girl's favor. A cursory glance of the three revealed that, one, their equipment was horrid, save for the axe, and two, they didn't look all that well trained. Granted, Lucian wasn't the most well trained, either, but still.

Well, first order of business, get them off their horses. With any luck, I can spoke them so badly they'll either be thrown off, or disoriented enough that they'll be easy to pick off. Hmm. . . This'll do.

Lucian was scanning the area as he thought, and came across a nice sized rock, about as big as his palm. He wasn't the best shot in the world, but he didn't have to be in this case. He palmed it with his right hand. It was a good thing he could come from the side like this; if he came from the back, he might accidentally cause the horses to charge at the red haired girl and the old man. Lucian's left hand scooped up some dirt off the ground. He was gonna need this in a second. He waited for something to happen first, anything really, that would have them distracted for even a brief moment.

Ironically enough, that oppertunity presented itself in the form of the guy with the sword swinging it in front of himself. Intimidating, maybe, but also fairly impractical. It didn't really do anything except draw attention to himself. Which was fine with Lucian. That meant they weren't looking at him. From his position, he was closest to the spear wielder. Lucian took a silent deep breath to steady his nerves. What he was about to do had the potential to injure himself if he wasn't careful.

Lucian silently darted out into the alley proper, sticking with the shadows as much as he could. He ran as silently as he could while still maintaining a decent speed. Convinently enough, he timed this with the red-haired girl talking, so they were still probably still focused on her. Taking a deep breath in as he burst from the shadows, Lucian did two things. One, he chucked the rock at the spear-guy's head. He wasn't the best shot in the world, but he did know about things like gravity and the like. About how things arced when thrown or shot and all that. The second thing he did was shout after he did that.

"HEY MORONS! OVER HERE!"

Whether or not the spear guy was hit in the face or not wasn't of real consequence. If he turned to look and didn't dodge, he'd be taking a stone to the face. If he turned and did dodge, he probably wouldn't be able to spear at Lucian. Either way, Lucian's hand darted back to his sword, drawing it. However, his course had shifted. He wasn't headed directly at the raiders now. Instead, he was headed towards the girl and old man, in front of them. With any luck, his Mission Clothes would protect him if spearhead did manage to attack him. That 'spear' looked one thrust away from the scrap heap.

If he was able to successfuly get in front of him, he shot the girl a calm look before quickly facing the three and thrusting out his left arm, opening his palm as he did so. Lucian allowed himself a small grin as his magic shined.

"Gem Make - Emerald Splash!"

From the simple dirt in his hand, numerous small emerald gemstones burst out, discharging in the magical equivalent of a shotgun blast. Despite how it sounded, the gems all only had pretty much as much force behind them as that earlier throw. The difference, then was two things. One, he was now facing them all, and they would all probably be hit by it since they were on horses. Two, they were on horses. If this didn't spook them, Lucian didn't know what would. He had fully drawn his sword by that point, and would make it a 'point' to cause the horses to turn and flee if they charged towards them.

Maybe she was fortunate, or maybe someone else had been looking for a chance, too. The reason didn't really matter. What mattered was that the opening she had needed presented itself. As if by cue, a rock whipped through the air even as Sierra's words about discipline drew to a halt. A sudden shout drew the spearman and swordsman's attentions, and the rock clipped the edge of the spearman's jaw, drawing a line of red as it broke the skin.

Sierra's left hand stretched out, her index and middle fingers spreading into a scissor like gesture as beads of fire appeared at her fingertips. Her efforts were momentarily interrupted as the poor fellow stepped in front of her. Great. Her arm shifted slightly to the left, neglecting the spearman for the moment even as the blonde man cast a spell of his own.

Emeralds?

Sierra shrugged as a spray of green flashed into the forward horses' flanks. The spear-wielding gentleman, already off-balance from his recent injury, was thrown off his horse as it reared up in a panic. The others kept theirs under better control, but the two mages weren't done quite yet. With a snap of her wrist, she sent the two beads zipping through the air, flashing to strike the swordsman in the torso while zipping through the line of sight of the horse of the axe-wielding bandit in the back.

It was mere moments until the swordsman had been unhorsed as well, though the axe-wielding bandit somehow managed to keep his seat... and charge. From what she'd seen, the bold emerald mage wasn't exactly the swiftest of gentlemen. "Sorry about this, please don't resist," Sierra muttered apologetically in his ear, even as her free hand grabbed his collar and dragged him forward and slightly to their right, leaving them on the opposite side of the axe that would have likely cleaved one or the other of them a moment earlier. Though she suspected the gem-swordsman could have handle the axe by itself, doing so while avoiding a charging horse was still nothing to sniff at.

"If I handle him, can you make sure the others don't stab me in the back once they get back up?" she asked as she released him, pointing at the cursing figures who were beginning to recover their wind from their fall. There wasn't long to make a choice, and she had to know how widely her attention would be divided. "You don't have to beat them, though that'd be nice."

Another mage, eh? That certainly helps even things out then.

Lucian silently remarked in the sanctity of his thoughts. The combined barrage of their two attacks was enough to dehorse two of the bandits, with the third somehow being able to still be upright on his horse. Which was a bit of a problem, actually. The axeman brandished his weapon of choice and charged at them. On horseback. That would put a lot of power behind the hit if he managed to land it on them. Lucian really wasn't trying to injure the horse, but he would if it was necessary.

However, before he had time to so much as get in a stance, the girl's voice whispered past his ear.

"Sorry about this, please don't resist,"

His mind processed the request faster than he had time to question it, and instantly, he was pulled out of the way of the blow. This also had the effect of getting her out of the way as well. So two for two then, that wasn't bad at all. Regaining his balance from the abrupt pull, Lucian was able to get a better look at the person who had just, probably, saved him from being cut down the center. He only had time for a cursory glance though, as they were on the battlefield. A wandering mind left one with a headless neck, after all. . .

She appeared to be a young woman, as he thought before, and indeed was brandishing a broom. Probably a concealed weapon of some sort. That, or she was one of the more. . . unusual weapon practitioners. His father had told him he had seen one such individual cut through metal like butter with a wooden spoon once, after all. . . Oh, right, she was also fast. Really, really fast. Probably about twice as fast as Lucian was at the moment, though she only seemed about as strong as he was.

She had also begun to speak again.

"If I handle him, can you make sure the others don't stab me in the back once they get back up?"

She was pointing at the two they had just unhorsed.

"You don't have to beat them, though that'd be nice."

Were he someone else, Lucian mused, he probably would have gotten a bit sore over the little diss at the end. However, he was not, and he was not, respectively.

"Of course."

Was his simple reply. Lucian turned to face the two downed combatants, trusting his back to be covered by the redhead behind him. This wasn't going to be so bad, especially since the two already had some form of damage to them. Falling from a horse and getting pelted with magic (and one decidedly non-magical rock in spearhead's case) probably had softened them up pretty nicely. Still, they had weapons, and they could probably still do some damage to him if he wasn't careful.

Lucian quickly bent down and grabbed some gravel and other assorted road-stuff off the ground. Lucian didn't have any magic at the moment, true, but they didn't know that, did they? Battle was all about misinformation, after all. As well as seeing who got stabbed first. Conveniently, his bent-down position let him sprint forward like one of those athletes. He wasn't quite as fast as one of them though, but it was still a fairly good takeoff in Lucian's opinion.

So. . . who to go after first? Probably the spear guy, he's the most damaged of the two.

Lucian mused for a moment. He had gotten in range of the two by now, and so it was time to engage once more. Before that though. . . it was time to indulge in one of warfare's most time honored traditions. Lucian allowed himself a small smile.

I shall taunt you.

"Oy you two layabouts! Is this how you fight!? Sleeping on the ground?! Pathetic! You two are a disgrace to marauders everywhere! You two probably couldn't even threaten an old lady crossing the street! Disgraceful!"

Ahh the art of taunting one's opponent(s) into blind rages. It diminished their ability to think rationally, and thus diminished their ability to fight well. It also made you feel really, really good. It was always fun to send some idiot into a full rage state and then clobber them in the mouth or something. In any case, it would make predicting their attacks a bit easier, and would probably open up some opportunities to attack for Lucian as well. That depended on how well the taunt worked, though. On the other hand, these two didn't exactly look like the smartest.

Closing the gap, Lucian's left hand whipped out and released it's contents into the faces of his two opponents, or at least that was where he was aiming at. If it worked, his opponents would be both dazed and blinded. It was a shame he didn't have any broken glass around or something, that would probably have taken them both out right then and there. Regardless, he was still going after the spearguy first. It would help if the swordsman was blinded as well, but his armor could more than likely deflect the very worn down blade he held.

Since he wasn't looking to kill these guys just yet, Lucian figured he probably should put them down for a goodly long time. Non-lethally of course. Depending on whether or not the spearman was blind or not, two things could happen. In scenario one, Lucian's hand that held his blade whipped out and punched the guy right in the jaw. The jaw he had hit before with the rock. He was aiming to deal out some major pain to the guy. If he didn't dislocate it or something, at least he would make life really unpleasant for him.

If he wasn't blinded, however, and attempted to spear him, Lucian would sidestep the blow, and simultaneously flick his broadsword at the middle of the spear's length. The spear looked like it was one good, solid hit away from simply just breaking apart. If he was able to do that, then he would get a good punch to the jaw. Of course, that would leave the swordsguy then. . . He looked a little better trained than the spearhead, at least. At least his weapon, as badly taken care of as it was, could probably take more than one or two hits. Lucian would make sure the spearguy was down before he tackled Mr. Swordsman.

Though she was dubious about the boy's carefree response, Sierra didn't exactly have time to talk it out. Or to worry about anyone else, for that matter. From the corner of her eye she could see the elder scrambling for the safety of a nearby building, so at least that was one less concern for the time being. Every little bit counted. Even as she registered that little bit of data, she was turning and starting off in the direction that the axe-wielding bandit had gone.

The man had turned by now, and was readying himself for another charge. Having to deal with the horse AND the axe wasn't something she was interested in. Lifting her broom up so that it was horizontal at her right, she took in a slow, deep breath before sprinting in, taking the initiative before her opponent could ready another charge. For once, her height proved useful as the bandit brandished his axe, and a slight drop in her knees sent it whizzing overhead.

In a smooth, even movement, she brought her right hand inwards, driving the broom across her chest and into the opening between the man's stirrup and leg. Drawing her elbow back in, she ripped his foot free even as she hopped with a half turn to replaced it with her own foot, swinging herself up onto the horse's back behind the man. If it came to an exchange of blows, she probably wouldn't have won against someone with such a heavy weapon, and the added force of a horse. The solution was simple, then.

"Never fight fair."

Dropping her broom, Sierra reached around and caught the axe-wielding bandit in a crude headlock. Moments later, she shifted her grip as she managed to drag him off the horse, twisting through the fall to drive him face first into the dirt. The resounding crack that came with it suggested to her that she might have gone... just a little bit overboard. Still, she wasn't worried about that. What was of greater concern was...

~~~
Unfortunately for Lucian, his gambit with the gravel would be less effective now that folks were actually expecting him. The spearman shielded his eyes with his spare arm as he got to his feet and readied his weapon anew. It was far harder to blind a man that saw you coming than that. The spear-bearing bandit recovered his feet first, surprisingly. Even more surprisingly, he used his weapon to fend Lucian off, rather than striking, and the weapon bobbed and weaved in the air between them, holding the blonde at bay.
As Lucian attempted to put the pressure on the lancer, his companion interrupted with an attack of his own. The whistling of steel through the air would reach Lucian's ears as the sword-bandit's blade slashed through the air at his head. In the instant that Lucian would be busy with that, the spearman stepped in and stabbed for Lucian's face as well - this one, however, for it's location after he had somehow managed to repel or avoid the swordsman's strike. In a battle between groups, it was a rare thing indeed that a man would stand aside while his companion was struck down. These men might not have been virtuoso of their respective weapons, but they were survivors, through and through - how else had they not been slain yet?
