"Get off my lawn."

The battle is lasted for hours and the ruins of Hurin lingered with the sounds of shouting and metal clashing. The barbarians already poured into the ruins like an endless swarm of locusts and the defenders of Hurin were like lambs led into the slaughter, it was a bloodbath and there is no yielding or surrendering, just Death waiting to reap those who were slain in this very carnage. Although they were losing the hope, the Pergrandans gave out their best to fight the barbarians till they successfully retreat from Hurin or fight to the end. Everywhere at the ruins of Hurin were already becoming battlegrounds and Balian stumbled into one of them, he is not fighting for his honor or medals but his survival. He clove his sword onto a barbarian’s shield and slashed his enemy across to the chest with the blade, thus the barbarian fell down like fallen beast. He looked around with alertness and saw some of the Wayfarers running towards him with their weapons, as well as blood stained on their blue surcoat. ”Northmen have taken the western side of Hurin! They’re heading towards here now! Huge numbers of them!” one of the Wayfarers reported and that ill news made Balian becoming grim while sheathing his sword. Suddenly, some Vahran rangers who stayed at the defense of Hurin came to the Wayfarers and that could stall the barbarians with their help. ”Regroup with Silverfang’s forces along with the others at southern gate! Lead the stragglers if you come across them! There’s no point of fighting a hopeless battle here!” he ordered the Wayfarers and they quickly dispersed, fighting their way in order to regroup as well as survive. The Vahran rangers were under at Balian’s command and they were ready for his orders. ”What will you have us do, Radir?” one of the rangers asked. ”Form a line and divide into two rows! Be ready to welcome them.” he told the elves hasty and they immediately form up in a line of two rows, first row crouched down while the second row standing tall. They immediately readied their bows but not the arrows in their quiver, not yet. Balian readied his bow and an arrow from his quiver while looking at the western entrance where the barbarians will pour into this ground. It was a moment of silence and then, Balian and the elves heard the shouting of the barbarians. ”Here they come!” one of the elves shouted and Balian saw the barbarians, now they were heading to this position like a horde of mindless Vulcans. ”Ready the arrows!” Balian shouted and the elves immediately nock their arrows onto their bows at the same time, they directly aimed at the attacking barbarians. At this time, these barbarians did not have shields but swords and axes in their hands, some of them even have pikes and spears… an opening for Balian and his elven allies. ”Dhagad el iphillin!” he shouted highly while loosening his arrow from his bow. The elves did as they were commanded to and Balian’s arrow combined with the elves’ arrows becoming a hellish rain of arrows. The arrows pierced into the barbarians’ formation and most of them fell onto the ground but still, they fearlessly charge towards Balian and the elves from afar. Balian gave his command to the elves to fire at will, another wave of arrows loosened upon the barbarians again. Even though their numbers were decreased, the barbarians are getting close to the elves and Balian. ”… Swarda!” the young Wayfarer shouted while casting his bow aside and drawing out both of his short swords, the elves did the same and they drawn out their elven blades, ready to meet their foes in close quarter. The barbarians immediately clashed with the elves’ formation and their numbers are far too great. Balian and the elves scurrying few steps back into defensive formation while the barbarians closing in with their arms, there is no escape for the elves and Balian. Suddenly, there is a wolf howl on above the elves and that is a good sign for Balian. A large group of bitkavlk armored warriors leap up from nowhere and they struck through the barbarians’ formation, killing them with their weapons as well as their fangs and claws. The presence of these werewolves gave new hope of survival to the elves and the young Wayfarer, thus they immediately joined with their canine allies and pushed the barbarians back with their weapons and courage. ”Where have you been earlier, valiant wolves of Silverfang?!” Balian shouted with his smile while stabbing his swords into a downed barbarian. ”Forgive us to keep you waiting, young Wayfarer! We’ve just done piling up the barbarians’ corpses at the eastern side of Hurin!” one of the bitkavlk warriors shouted as he is done hacking his tomahawk axe into the skull of a barbarian. That kind of response made Balian smiling more broadly and he kept on killing those barbarians with his two swords. The remaining barbarians began to retreat while the elves and bitkavlk warriors pushing them back, the attackers retreated back to the western side. It was a temporary victory as the rest of barbarians is scattered around Hurin, Balian still heard the dimming battle cries and swords-clashing around him. Suddenly, a horn was blown from afar and that is not the horn of victory. ”How can that be possible? General Silverfang is ordering retreat!” a bitkavlk warrior spoke to one of the elves, now they started to talk to each other about the retreating horn signal. No doubt the barbarians already overrun the ruined city and this place too if Balian and his allies do not retreat. Regardless about the retreat, Balian thought that General Silverfang got some reasons about this and he turned towards to the elves and bitkavlk warriors. ”We’ll ask him out later, now we must leave this place and regroup with the rest. Move!” he shouted while signaling the elves and the bitkavlk warriors to move, and so they began to run together while remaining alert at their surroundings. |
