Mission Briefing Marcus sat on the roof of a building, dangling his feet from the ledge and humming as he waited for Ecclair to arrive. He amused himself by watching the passerby below; intrigued by how small they looked from above. So much had changed for Marcus, it was like his whole life had shifted in a matter of seconds. Following the assessment that Ecclair had administered for him, Marcus got a promotion, he was now known as Coporal Faldin by everyone around him. Even more surprising was that Ecclair, or Sergeant Farron as she should be known, had taken an interest in him. It wasn't long until he had received an invitation to join the Dauntless Vanguard, arguably the best knight unit in Fiore, the unit possessed some of the most powerful knights in the land and was highly selective of how they allowed in their midst. So when Marcus heard of the invitation, he couldn't believe his ears, he rushed to accept the offer, only too happy to be placed among such esteemed and respected people. Perhaps the most important event was his proposal to Laura. With everything that happened to him, his reputation, his promotion and join the Vanguard, it seemed like he finally got the balls to ask her the big question. In her own way, Laura said yes, making Marcus now officially engaged. It was almost like the entire's world's happiness paled in comparison to Marcus'. Now he stood, ready to embark on his first ever assignment as a member of the Dauntless Vanguard and with no one but Ecclair Farron Bellum herself, once again. As a member of the Vanguard, Marcus had much to live up to, and he had to prove to the Sergeant that he earned his place in the group. He wanted to show Ecclair that deserves his place in the Vanguard. He absentmindedly fingered the panther tooth he wore around his neck, a souvenir, given to him by Ecclair. He sat in his spot, garbed in his Talos Suit and armed with his spear and shield. Marcus felt more confident than last time; he had his equipment with him. Back in the forest, without his items, he felt vulnerable. This assignment was directly linked to the assessment. During his test to find a Brichtnog feather, the two knights had come across a group of poachers. Most of them got away, but Ecclair had managed to capture one. Now he had spilled the beans and it was time to track down the rest of the group. Marcus had been called upon to help. Marcus tucked his panther tooth necklace under his armor and returned to humming, waiting for Ecclair to arrive. Edited by Marcat, Jun 22 2013, 08:36 PM.

Upon being taken back to the knights headquarters and meeting some of the more ‘persuasive’ members of the forces the man that Ecclair and Marcus had captured was quick to give up some information. The details that he ‘volunteered’ might not have been enough to bring down the entire ring of poachers in question however there was enough to prove helpful for the task force charged with finding just that information. Apparently there was a man of note in the less than law abiding areas of Oshibana town, one that would be able to provide more information if he was to be ‘persuaded’ to do so. He was known as the ‘Fashionista’ to those in his circle, and while the name provoked an obvious reasoning behind the title Ecclair didn’t want to focus on it. No doubt they’d find the man surrounded by the pelts of the creatures they’d poached and when they did Ecclair would have to remember the extra line her superiors had given her. The pair were to make sure that none of the criminals involved were killed, they were all to be detained and brought in for questioning. It would prove to slow down their progress as they were forced to stop and wait for back-up to come and detain the criminals in question, but she supposed she understood why it necessary. This was a large poaching ring and they needed every I dotted and every T crossed to bring them down for good. As Ecclair made her way through the streets of the town on her way to meet up with Marcus the knight found herself being approached by a fellow knight, with a smile and the request of a photograph with her the young man also spoke of where he’d last seen the Corporal that she sought. Atop a building? Well, it seemed that their meeting would be a case of déjà vu. With a brief exchange of words and the photograph that the man sought Ecclair was well an truly only moments from where she was to meet her partner for the task ahead. With the knowledge that the man was atop the building that he was the knight took a route that was sure to provide him with no vision of her approach. She’d soon find out if he was always as jumpy as he proved to be last time they’d met. Carefully Ecclair’s footsteps were placed against the fire escape of the building from which she would reach the roof where Marcus was seated. It didn’t make much sense but somehow the woman was able to sneak around despite the armour that she wore, perhaps it was just practice. Sure enough, as her head made it over the roofline she was greeted with the sight of Marcus’s back as he sat absent-mindedly staring off into the sky. Through the grape vine she’d heard news of the man’s engagement and with that knowledge in hand she had a pretty good idea of just why he seemed so off with the clouds. With a slight shake of her head the woman stepped to the concrete rooftop of the building and crossed halfway through the gap between them. “I hear congratulations are in order.”Ecclair said abruptly breaking the silence that had held control of the area, “For various reasons.” Donned in her armour once more Ecclair stood as tall and proud as ever as the winds blew rustling through her hair and the feathers at her side. This time Kishu was not with her for in Ecclair’s mind it was safer for the small and highly rare bird to stay as far away from poachers as he would. Sure, the poaching would have to pry the small bird from her dead grasp in order to get him, but given that she couldn’t kill anyone….. It was best that she not risk them angering her in such a way. |

After a while of sitting on the roof, thinking to himself, Marcus began to wonder where Ecclair had gone off to. While he didn't knew her for that long, he knew that she was quite disciplined; the thought of her being late for arrival was an unlikely one. Marcus chosen his high perch for various reasons; mainly that he enjoyed the height, but also to give him a chance to catch a glimpse of the Sergeant as she came over, giving him a warning of sorts. Yet as he sat there, looking below in the crowds only to find Ecclair, he began to wonder if she knew where he was. Then Ecclair's voice came out from behind him, breaking his string of thought. He was surprised a bit; but relieved that his concerns were unwarranted. It was like the Lancarri Jungle all over again; Marcus sitting in a tree and Ecclair showing up behind him to scare the living daylights out of him. Well, except this time Marcus was calmer and more relaxed. He also didn't feel as vulnerable as he did last time without his weapons and armor. By nature, Marcus wasn't much of an excitable person, so when Ecclair turned up behind him, he raised his head to the voice and calmly turned around to meet eyes with Sergeant Ecclair. A sheepish smile crossed his face as he scratched his head in mild embarrassment. "Thank you, Sergeant." It seems that everyone really did know about the news, well he supposed that it couldn't be helped. The Sergeant seemed every bit as regal and stoic as Marcus remembered her to be, but something seemed missing...Then Marcus remembered; Kishu her little pet bird was nowhere to be found; she must've left him at home or something. Though her reason were understandable, Marcus couldn't help but be a little disappointed; he had grown fond of that yellow feathered ball. Marcus stood up from his seat and saluted Ecclair. "Shall we go then?" It was more a respectful gesture than a question. |

Unlike the time in the Lancarri jungle when he had fallen out of the tree Marcus didn’t seem as surprised by Ecclair’s sudden appearance. As she walked towards the stairs which would take them back to the ground level Ecclair kept her eyes focused before her and not back at the man to whom she was speaking, “Yes.“ A short pause was made as Ecclair thought on the words to say next, “We are to meet with a friend of mine not far from here.” Who was the friend that Ecclair spoke of? The man in question was none other than Juto Yamagami, Lieutenant in the Knights of Fiore. As a fellow Dauntless Vanguard member and a close friend of Bellumese princess the Lieutenant had jumped at the chance to be in the taskforce, working with his precious Clair-bear -even if not all too closely- and the change to meet this new guy was simply far too inviting for him to pass up. Ever since learning of the knight that had been deemed promising by the units leading officers Juto had found himself curious. He’d learned all that he needed to through his contacts and the like but there was still the most important thing yet to be made; the first impression and the infamous Yamagami gut sense. He wanted to see this guy in the flesh and get a read on him, until that was done there was no way he was resting easy. Sure, the man was supposedly engaged to his long term sweetheart after a long term and happy relationship.. But that didn’t mean much if the guy himself was of a certain calibre. The stolen kiss -even if it was only a peck on the lips- made my a certain Larkin Falzo -who by the way was now firmly on the knight’s black list- during the war with Bosco had triggered a switch of insecurity and jealousy within Juto, if that one guy had the balls to try something then what was stopping other allies that she wasn’t allowed to kill from doing the same?!!? Irrational? Yes, but hey that’s what love could do to a person. “We are to find him at the bar a few streets away.” With the last piece of information she felt necessary to share having been spoken Ecclair began her descent down the stairs. Marcus would hopefully know to follow her without a written invitation to do so for she wasn’t going to turn around and give him one. The pair would reach the ground where they would be greeted by the bustling street before them. People passed by them with varying paces to their movements and while all remained in their own world of thoughts none gave consideration to the knights that stood waiting to enter their midst. The street was an unusually busy one and it was for that very reason that pickpockets loved it, after all it was hard to know the difference between someone bumping into you on a busy street on purpose or on accident. “I suggest you keep a firm grip on that engagement ring.” The odds of Marcus’s engagement ring being stolen were next to zero, Ecclair had only used mention of it to get across a point about thievery and pick pockets being ripe in the sea of people that they were to mix into. For several hundred metres nothing out of the ordinary occurred and for her armour and perhaps even her aura Ecclair was given enough leeway that none were bumping into her. Just up ahead of the pair however the knight’s eyes spied one of the cleanest and sneakiest displays of pick pocketing she’d seen in quite some time. The way the kid moved and went about it was so fluid and subtle that if she hadn’t been watching the woman he had preyed on out of instinct than odds were Ecclair herself wouldn’t have noticed it. The way that the kids eyes widened upon spotting the two knights heading his way in the crowd was enough to tell Ecclair that he hadn’t gone through with the theft out of arrogance or ego, he simply hadn’t seen the authorities on the other side of his victim for the crowd of people. Unfortunately for the young teen, the sea of people behind him had only grown thicker and had halted to stand still. As he tried to turn and run for it he found himself walled off by the bodies of those not moving, panic set in and he tried to push his way through them only to be knocked onto his ass by a disgruntled man. Without picking up her pace at all Ecclair was standing over the boy as he grunted in pain, it really was the kids unlucky day. He moved to make a run for it but before he had even gotten to his feet a gauntlet covered hand grasped a hold of the clothes he wore lifting him into the air with ease. The boy was facing Marcus as Ecclair held him up in the air and so it would be up to him to get back what had been stolen. |

Marcus gave Ecclair a puzzled as she said that they would be meeting a friend of hers. So far as Marcus knew, the only friends that Ecclair had was possibly Aiden. So needless to say, Marcus was curious to see just who was this person who had managed to get friendly with Ecclair and gain her respect. Marcus slung his shield on his back and folded Iustitia at his side as he followed Ecclair down the stairwell. Apparently, they would meet him in some bar nearby. The man put his hands in his pockets as he silently walked along with Ecclair, keeping to himself and mostly observing the passerby. The people's reaction to the two of them ranged from complete indifference to reverence to even obvious dislike. Still, no one approached them and all of them made a point to steer out of their way. Marcus something odd about his surroundings. People seemed oddly clustered together, with their hands in close proximity to each other, it wasn't particularly alarming to Marcus, but still struck him as odd. Then Ecclair reminded him to keep a grip on his engagement ring. Instinctively reaching out to grab his ring, Marcus nodded to Ecclair. He caught the hint; this ocean of people would present a possible threat to his ring, it could get stolen. Though the ring itself wasn't exactly expensive, it was only a simple platinum ring after all, it was still important to him. Most importantly though was the fact that Laura would get angry at him if he lost it. Marcus twisted the ring on his finger as he walked through the crowd, keeping a close eye on anyone who came into proximity with him. Luckily, no one came too close to him, and most of the people didn't even give them a second glance. Maybe it was Ecclair's intimating aura, or maybe it was armor that Marcus was wearing. Suddenly, Marcus glimpsed something, a young boy pickpocket a woman. It was barely noticeable to Marcus, but he saw it. It was nothing like he had seen, he had done it so well it seemed almost intuitive and so natural. Had it been anyone less perceptive than Marcus, they would've missed it. As it was, Ecclair noticed it as well and walked over to retrieve the boy. The thief had just noticed the two and was trying to worm his away from the crowds only to fail and get knocked to the ground. Ecclair picked him up and raised him in front of Marcus. "Hand it over, kid." Marcus said simply. Realizing that resistance was futile, the boy silently handed over a small leather case. Marcus took the case and returned it to the lady he was glimpsed being robbed. The lady seemed surprised at how Marcus had it, initially thinking he had stolen it until Marcus explained that he was a knight and had retrieved it from a thief himself and was simply returning it to her. In the end, the woman thanked him and went off. After a few minutes of his departure, Marcus returned and nodded to Ecclair, letting her now that he had taken care of the matter. The knight looked at the boy. "I don't want to see you robbing people again, you hear me?" Marcus gestured with his head. "Off with you." |

Ecclair was being subjected to quite a few glances from passers by while she watched Marcus wander off into the crowd after the woman to whom the stolen item belonged to. She could understand why the people walking by were staring with wide eyes but at the same time, did they honestly not have anything better to do? The knight wasn’t being overly rough with the teen so there was no need for them to stare out of concern for his well being, if her holding him up in the air was so shocking ~ oh, yeah that could have been it. Sometimes Ecclair tended to forget that it was unusual for a woman to be simply picking people up -even just teens- with one hand as if they were a kitten, oh well surely they’d get used it eventually. The young teen in the knight’s grasp turned his head to shoot her a foul stare and as he did so the kid revealed something he’d wish he hadn’t, with a furrowed stare the woman locked her gaze onto the tattoo that otherwise would have remained hidden under his long shaggy layers of hair. The artwork in question was just beneath the kids ear and trailing down his neck and in Ecclair’s opinion it was quite an intricately designed piece of ink, but it wasn’t the detailed work that had her interest piqued. There was something familiar about the centre piece of the tattoo’s tribal base, it was something she’d seen somewhere before. It wasn’t until Marcus returned to the scene of the crime to speak and that he gave the teen a sort of stern warning that Ecclair’s mind made the connection between the sight of the tattoo and the piece of information stored within her memories. “I’m afraid he’s not so lucky, he will be coming with us. I have someone that I just know would appreciate that piece of ink of his.” The teen’s feet were placed on the ground once more and after being shrugged forwards by Ecclair he reluctantly started to move forwards while dragging his feet. It was obvious to him what Ecclair had figured out and now panicking something fierce the young boy was beginning to perspire as his heart raced a million miles an hour. Maybe if he tried to convince her that ~ nah, she didn’t look like the gullible type. Oh boy, he was so screwed. A few minutes of ‘escorting’ the teen through the streets brought the pair of knights to the doors of one of the largest pubs in the area, it was then that the kid thought he might have had a chance of getting away if he used some wit. “I can’t go in there, I’m underage. Too bad but I guess I better be leaving.” Although he tried to turn and walk away with hope that there wouldn’t be anything to stop him the pick pocketing teen found his dreams and hopes dashed as a firm and unyielding grasp yanked him back before pushing him through the bars swinging doors. He would stumble inside but he would not fall to the ground completely before catching himself and righting his balance, what waited for him inside though was far worse than hitting the ground would have been. Ecclair followed immediately behind the teen and as she entered the bar all eyes were well and truly set on the person she’d ‘brought’ with her, “Don’t say I never get you anything.” Only one man stirred at the arrival of the pink haired princess and as he downed a shot of something the brunette spun on the bar stool beneath him before leaping to his feet. “To think you brought me a present, and it’s not even my birthday.” With a joking expression within his voice and behind his eyes the man walked over to the young teen that he’d been ‘delivered’. After forcefully tilting the boys head back against his struggle with little trouble the man smiled before handing him off to a knight fully donned in armour that emerged from seemingly nowhere, “You sure know the way to a man’s heart dontcha Clair-bear.” Marcus wouldn’t know the details of what was going on however he would have been able to figure out -hopefully- that the teen they’d apprehended was clearly wanted for something more than just a simple pick pocketing, and that the brunette to whom Ecclair spoke to had some kind of interest in apprehending him. The man’s eyes set firmly on Marcus and with interest the brunette approached him before reaching out his hand for a hand shake, “You must be Corporal Faldin. Welcome to the Dauntless Vanguard. Name’s Juto.” |

Marcus had thought that with the stolen item returned, Ecclair would simply release the boy to be on his way. After all, the crime itself wasn't that serious, pick-pocketing happened all the time, besides he was only a kid. The two knights have more important matters to deal with anyway. Still, Ecclair seemed to have noticed something on boy. Marcus peered over, curious to see what she was interested in, but all he saw was a glimpse of some sort of tattoo. The knight still looked confused as Ecclair said that the boy would be coming with them. Regardless, Marcus figured that whatever she spotted must've been important to bring him along. She lead him along with the two of them as they continued through the crowd. They reached a bar and Marcus entered after Ecclair, slightly puzzled but nonetheless, stoic in his features. The boy had tried back out of getting into the building, but Ecclair was a pretty convincing woman when she felt like it. Then, in reply to her words, a brown-haired person stirred, turning to the two of them. He exchanged a few words with Ecclair making it plainly obvious that the two knew each other from before. The banter between the two also made it clear that they were rather close mainly because Marcus had a vague feeling that if anyone else addressed Ecclair as ‘Clair-bear’, they’d get their teeth knocked out. Marcus had a pretty good idea who this person was before he even introduced himself. Marcus shook the man’s hand, his grip firm but well-intentioned. He smiled at Juto. “Glad to be part of the unit.” Marcus said. “Good to meet you, Lieutenant Yamagami. I hear you’re one of the best smiths in Fiore.” |

Ecclair rolled her eyes as Juto called her Clair-Bear, it truly was a habit she just hadn’t been able to break the man out of and it hadn’t been for a lack of trying. Where had the nickname even come from? As she took a seat at one of the many empty tables Ecclair found herself pondering on just that very question. Had it been~ No, it started even before that time, if she recalled correctly it wasn’t long after first meeting the man those years ago. Really? She’d let the man get away with calling her that for years? Well for much of that time she’d been in a different nation, so perhaps it wasn’t quite so bad. Still, she was being rather lenient on the buffoon. What was a woman to do though? She’d told him not to more times than she could remember. Short of beating him to a pulp time and time again there really wasn’t any other way to get the message across, not that even that was likely to work, he truly was a stubborn man when it came to certain things. In the time that Ecclair spent thinking to herself on the past Juto wasted no time and now shaking Marcus’s hand the Lieutenant’s smile developed into a mischievous curl of his lips. This was a sign that Ecclair could read as clear as day and now with her gaze set on the pair the knight knew exactly what was to come. “Really? Well now, I have to say I like your sources.” Yep, there it was. As if Juto’s already inflated ego needed more air. With the compliment Marcus had given him Juto was flying so high that even Ecclair had to wonder if her words could bring him back down to a decent altitude. Never the less the Bellumese knight sighed while rolling her eyes, “Your humility astounds me even to this day.” The words that Ecclair spoke were laced with obvious sarcasm, yet, unaffected by it all Juto seemed completely unaffected as he approached the table she sat at. “Do you have the information or not Juto?” Juto would take a seat at the table with Ecclair before putting on a jokingly pout-ful expression, “Ouch, and here I thought you’d come to see me.” It would seem that the man was serious for several moment before another figure entered from the back room, in the armoured man’s grasp was several pieces of paper and as he handed them off to Juto he spoke not a word. This silent exchange between the two men would serve to help show Marcus that the Lieutenant was actually far more organised than he appeared. “Take a seat Corporal.” Ecclair motioned to Marcus in what was a subtle manner, with Juto finally on track she didn’t care to waste time, if given the chance it wouldn’t take long for the Lieutenant to try and side track them both for idle chit chat. As Marcus took his seat Juto would make himself comfortable in his seat before sitting back and starting to give what information the pair needed, “From what I’ve been able to gather, your poaching ring has two guys of note lurking here in town. As much as you might wish to find the guy in charge you wont be finding him here, their main base is somewhere else but that will be up to you to find as I’m sure you know.” Juto gave Ecclair and Marcus time to digest what he told them before continuing on, “The Fashionista and The Mad Hatter are the two you’ll be looking for here in town, as crazy as they sound I’m sure they’ve got something going their way.” |

Marcus shook the Lieutenant's hand, smiling sheepishly as Juto seemed to let Marcus' words get straight to his head. Apparently, Juto liked to be complimented and had quite the ego, especially if all it took was a few errant words to have him zoning out. The Lieutenant was pretty well known and so is his handiwork, after all, it is common knowledge the Ecclair herself primarily uses his handiwork for her arsenal. So Marcus knew about him from the general reputation rather than actual sources. Now that he thought about it, Marcus wondered if Juto would forge some of his own items now that he was part of the Dauntless Vanguard. He knew for a fact that the Talos Suit and Iustitia could stand for a number of improvements. If his work was anything like the stuff he'd seen back in the Lancarri Jungle, then Marcus would be clamoring for some of his work. Ecclair tried to get Juto's attention, but he seemed unaffected, merely responding with the usual banter between the two before sitting down. Marcus watched, as if on cue, a man entered through a door, handed Juto some papers. It seemed this seemingly laid back joker was more of an imposing figure than appearances let on. Marcus nodded as he sat himself, quietly listening to the briefing. He'd done this so many times before, it became natural to Marcus to sit and listen, absorbing all the information that was given to him, knowing that it would be crucial for him later on. Marcus didn't comment on anything as he listened, though he was a bit disappointed when he heard the poaching ring's core wasn't here, but somewhere else. Marcus had been hoping to put an end to them here and now. Oh well, Marcus would have to settle for catching the two main members. With names like the Fashionista, Marcus found it hard to take them seriously, but he knew they would have to arrest them if they wanted to get to the bottom of this. The knight absentmindedly cracked his knuckles as he leaned back in the chair, mulling over what had been said in his mind. "So...how deep have they entrenched themselves here in Oshibana?" Marcus said. "I mean, what kind of authority do they possess from their location here? After all, we'd need to know the impact of our actions here, so we know what to expect as a repercussion." |

Juto had always been the kind of guy to play mind games and Marcus was just a new person for him to ‘play’ with. Was he an aloof soldier that had his head so far up his own ass he couldn’t see the sun shining? Or, was he someone with a little more beneath the mask? Marcus was no doubt trying to get a god reading on just what type of guy Juto Yamagami was, there was no doubt that the corporal would have heard some things but you never could be too trusting of what you ‘heard’ on the grape vine. Juto knew that Ecclair was not the kind of woman to simply talk about him, even if Marcus had asked her of it the Lieutenant was certain that he’d have been given next to nothing. It truly was a fun game to get a reading on someone while you danced around messing with their ability to return the favour, there was only one woman that he hadn’t managed to trick into the game upon meeting them and she was seated across from him. Somehow Ecclair’s cold and piercing aqua eyes had managed to look right through the show that he’d put on upon first meeting her and without being shaken she turned the roles around upon him. He’d spent quite some time trying to get a proper read on the Bellumese princess but once he had Juto had unknowingly become fixated, ah the twists and turns of life. So far Marcus seemed on the ball and Ecclair and Juto looked to the corporal as he asked what they deemed to be a good question, “Well as I hope you know Oshibana Town is really nothing more than a glorified pit stop. I’d say these guys just use it as a place to swap over their cargo on the trains that go through, lucky for us they haven’t been here all that long and so I doubt they’ve managed to sink their teeth into the underbelly of this place just yet.” “With that being the case it is likely that they will up and run at the first sign of trouble, if they don’t have any roots here nor the proper strength than they won’t have anywhere to hide. The fact that you and your men are still here in town suggests to me that you have a plan to stop said escape?” Without really knowing it Ecclair and Juto had entered into a line of thought they shared and syncing into a conversation they accidentally didn’t include Marcus in their eye contact, “Ah, insightful as always. Starting~” A short pause was taken as Juto shot a glance to the wall of the bar, “about an hour ago actually, my men have made sure that the trains are going to be out of business long enough for you two to catch your men. Once you’ve found one and you have them in custody use this here to send me a buzz.” Juto placed a small device upon the table in front of Ecclair where the woman let it sit, “Go on.“ “Once you’ve done that you just have to wait for someone to turn up and take them off of your hands. Remember Clair-bear, headquarters wants everyone alive on this one.” A cheeky tone smile were shot at Ecclair by the Lieutenant who in response did little more than pick up the device from the table. Standing from her seat Ecclair made it clear that she intended to waste no time, “If you need to eat, drink or anything else say so now Corporal. Once we leave this bar we wont be taking any pit stops.” In truth Ecclair cared not if Marcus wished to stay a short time longer in order to prepare for the job at hand, if he chose to ask to do so then she wouldn’t be angry and if he said that he was ready to get out of there she was more than happy to do so. If they stayed much longer she just knew that Juto would do something she’d want to hurt him for, he had that look in his eyes. Edited by Lightning, Jul 17 2013, 12:31 AM.
