The way back to Marcus' own room was a quite one. By precaution, he had left from room 213 early to make sure he had enough time to get back to him room and hide the evidence of his departure. The last thing he needed was for the men to come back and find that Marcus had left the room, he was sure that wouldn't make him very trustworthy. When the two guards came back for Marcus, they found him sitting in a chair, suited up and everything, flipping through a newspaper. Feigning surprise, Marcus stood up and put the newspaper aside. He let himself get escorted out of the room and through the building. They headed up a few flights of stairs, and with each level they rise could see the surroundings become more and more posh. Marcus guessed that this was where the more powerful members of the gang stayed. Finally, the reached a room at the end of a long hallway. The oak doors opened and revealed a huge room, decorated with leather furniture, indoor plants and even some china. Sitting behind a table, sipping on a cup of tea, was the gang leader. Seeing Marcus enter the room, he set the cup down and waved away the two men who brought Marcus. They left, closing the door behind them, leaving Marcus alone with the gang leader. The knight stood in front of the old man as he pushed away the tea and folded his hands in front of him. As he stood there, Marcus felt a sudden pang as he realized how resemblent this was of the Knights. They too had a similar infrastructure, with loyal, well trained soldiers and commanding leaders. This had never truly struck Marcus until he stood now in front of the old man, just as he had countless times when he met senior officers. But the differences were clear, this 'organization' was nothing more than a gathering of criminals, while the knights worked for the security and safety of Fiore, these people only worked for the common goal of satisfying their own selfish goals. They were two opposite ends of the spectrum, yet they resembled each other so closely, it both shocked and sickened Marcus. "I don't like charades, boy." The old man finally said. Marcus gave him a surprised look. "What are you doing here?" "I don't understand...sir." "You know what I'm talking about." The old man growled. "Why are you here, what is your goal?" Marcus' eyes narrowed. The old man wasn't just spouting random nonsense, he suspected something. But how did he know? Marcus, Aiden and Nathan hadn't made their intentions clear in the slightest, how would he know? But a better question would be, what did he suspect them of? "...What goal, you suspect that I'm working against you?" Marcus asked, choosing his words carefully. "Yes, now tell me who you're working for." "I work for no one; my intentions are my own." The man gave Marcus a piercing glare. "Well then, we'll see what your friend has to say about that. Where is he?" "I don't know where he is." With the 'informant' knocked out and stowed away, Aiden had prevented anyone from seeing him. As for the gargoyle, the idea had worked, and with the loose dust blown away, only the particles that were glue to the stone by way of natural oils remained, which seemed to congregate mainly on the left eye of the statue, though there was a little smeared on the around the right horn. Should Aiden make it correctly past the gargoyle, he would find himself standing in front of a large dark stairway. Going down the steps, Aiden would find two gang members standing guard by a large steel door. They were armed with two assault rifles. At that point, the knight would be faced with a particular challenge. On one hand, he could take them down by force, and risk getting caught... or he could find another way to circumvent the guards, but risk taking a longer time to go around and put his own espionage skills to the test. His choice. Guard Stats

Much of the dust particles that were glued to the statue thanks to natural oils found on the hands and fingers remained on key parts of the statue -- namely, the left eye and the right horn. Aiden figured out a way to reveal how to open it, at least initially, but there was likely a sequence to open it. There could even be a possibility that it would trigger a trap of sorts. So, the knight did have to take a moment to stop and think about which sequence seemed more reasonable. With that in mind, he considered the possibility that the left eye which would likely be pressed inward would act as a sort of locking mechanism, though it could also be the button that opens the passageway. However, typically when it comes to these sort of hidden doors and passages it is usually the other, where it unlocks something. Which leaves the right horn of the statue -- which, if the eye was what unlocked it then the horn would be the door lever. Hidden passageways and the routes to open them are often strangely formulaic, to the point where once you find the means to open and reveal them, the actual actions required to do so become much simpler. Frankly, it's all a matter of experience, though at the same time Aiden couldn't help but vaguely wonder if he would ever make it as a successful cat thief based on this. Shaking that thought aside, Aiden navigated down a dark stairway. After going down the steps, Aiden found two armed guards standing by a large steel door. There was no other entrances, he had to get through the steel door. However, killing them or knocking them out simply might not work. Instead, he had to think of an alternate solution. Propping up a strategy that he had literally 'read from a book once', Aiden jumped up and planted his hands and feet on the walls high above normal standing level in order to get some vertical access. Following this, he grabbed hold of a somewhat conveniently placed pipe shaft. Finally, he retrieved his lighter, something that he would use for a simple distraction. Leaning over, Aiden threw the lighter out of his current position and back into the gargoyle statue room. No doubt, the guards would hear it and go to check it out. It was then at that point, that once they left their positions that Aiden would silently hop down and enter the steel door, pushing a button nearby that had closed the stairway to buy himself some time as the guards outside would have to reactivate the statue. With that, Aiden made it past another particular challenge. However, now he had to either blend in or remain unseen. |

OOC: I haven't forgotten about this thread, I just got really really really busy. Like, I had two huge exams today and 112 credit Biology writing assignment due on monday so yeah. Kay, you can post. Aiden's tactic was perfectly executed, the sound of the lighter clanking outside the room had attracted the guard's attention. They nudged each other and ran out to check on the noise, though one of the guards had stayed behind, he was too distracted to notice as Aiden slipped past him. Just as the knight slipped away, the guard that had left his position called at his comrade for him to check the perimeter. With both guards leaving their posts, Aiden was able to lock them out, buying himself enough time to find what was looking for. Behind the heavy set doors they were guarding, the dingy hallway evened out into a well lit corridor that led straight to a huge room. In the middle of that room, locked in a clear glass container was a small box. It was pretty small and rather unassuming; hard to believe that this thing could be the cause of so much trouble. There were two people, a man and woman peering at the device through the container. They looked like geeks, complete with the lab coat, glasses and mousy hair. The woman seemed mesmerized by the thing, while the man looked hesitant, almost reluctant. "So this is it?" The man said. "The Black Box." "Yes." The woman whispered "This thing could single handedly crack into any information database of any system in Fiore." "It's beautiful, isn't it?" "...Isn't this... a bit dangerous? This more than a simple turf war, we could be endangering innocent lives here..." The woman wheeled at the man, an angry look on her face. The man shrunk away from her, intimidated. "We don't ask questions, it isn't our job to ask questions, we just do our jobs." She growled, turning back to the container. "Besides, I couldn't care less. All I want is a chance to study it, to know it's secrets." The man harrumphed. "Well we'd better be quick about it. The old man wants results by the end of the week." The woman pulled out a key card and swiped it over a panel, causing the glass container to recede away, revealing the box. Slowly, ever so slowly, the woman reached over and cupped the box in her hands, holding it with all the tenderness that a mother would hold her newborn child. The sound of incoming footsteps would cause the two to forget their conversation, alerting everyone in the room, those visible and invisible. The two guards had managed to reenter the room and were making their way into research facility. It'd be best if Aiden weren't found out or that wouldn't end well. Meanwhile, Nathan had found his way to the gargoyle statue, noticing the ruckus that had gone on. He stood by the door, holding his pistol in one hand. He was waiting for Aiden to get out, lest he'd have to go in there and get him out himself. ----------------------------------------------- Marcus wasn't doing too well either. The boss suspected him (and rightly so) of working against him, interrogating him in his office as he tried to see who Marcus answered to. The knight quickly glanced about the office; it seemed empty enough, the usual honor guard that always accompanied the frail old man seemed to be absent. The door was only closed behind him too, so Marcus could still make a run for it if he needed to. But simply tucking tail was not the answer at this point. Running away would only cement his identity as a traitor and even so, Marcus would never be able to get out of this labyrinth alive by himself. His only chance was to humor the boss and see where he went. "Darius sent you, didn't he?" Marcus was taken aback, surprised by the sudden assumption. But he was clever enough to see his chance and hastened to glean it. "...I- Yes... Yes, sir... he sent me." It was perfect. The boss had completely guessed wrong, not thinking that Marcus would be part of the knights. Furthermore, if Marcus could play his cars right, he'd get just the distraction he was looking for. The boss spat out in disgust. "That wretched brother of mine, sending in a spy to get my secrets." The Boss' face suddenly morphed into horror, like he suddenly remembered something. His eyes seemed to almost bug out of their sockets as he pointed an accusing finger at Marcus. "You! He sent you to get the Box, didn't he?" "'The box?'" Marcus echoed. "Oh, you mean the device. My mission was to find the device and bring it back to Boss Darius." "Very well then. Let's pay my younger brother Darius a visit." The boss clapped his hands and three men appeared by the doorway. "Tell everyone to prepare to move out, we have a turf war to settle." He looked at Marcus. "And you, my friend, will be leading the way." Edited by Marcat, Sep 24 2013, 05:27 PM.

OOC Marcus was lead away from the office, where the gang boss quickly assembled everything, the men were called away from their luxurious couches and rooms and into the a large grand hall where they assembled smartly, all dressed up in their suits. The way they stood they looked exactly like knights preparing to go to war. They received intelligence of a group of men coming their way, which surprised Marcus, since he had knew that the whole rival-gang-turf-war thing was a lie. Did he just get extremely lucky? The gang went out to face off against a group of men, but the moment they were in perimeter, the other group of men broke cover and quickly subdued the other gang. Snipers appeared from atop the roof and quickly shot down the opposition while the ground forces quickly restricted and neutralized the threat. This type of coordination was familiar to Marcus, having seen it only among one group, The Knights. They quickly arrested the old leader and went for Marcus. They had him in handcuffs were leading him with the other gang members when a voice yelled at the two. "Stop, he's with me!" It called. Marcus recognized the voice, it was Nathan. "That's Corporal Faldin, he and Sergeant Vakarian were assisting me in getting the Black Box." The old lieutenant who lead the raid seemed initially hesitant to releasing Marcus but in the end he sighed and gave the order for Marcus to be untied. Marcus turned and looked at Nathan, he held a small thing in his hand, a communication device of some sort. "Where's the Box, Corporal Haley?" "Sergeant Vakarian is keeping an eye on it." "Very well," The leader motioned for a group of knights to enter into the building. "Find the Box and retrieve it." The leader gave Nathan a hard look. "You've done well, Corporal, you'll be rewarded handsomely back home." Marcus' eyes narrowed. So that's why he didn't tell them about the communication device; he wanted to make the call and take all the credit... well most of it. He tightened his fists angrily, he hated being played for a fool like that. Marcus had a strong urge to punch Nathan's (if that was even his real name) face in. Just as he stepped forward, Nathan made eye contact with Marcus. His eyes were fearful... almost pleading. Then Marcus understood, Nathan needed this. After all, he had spent three months undercover in the filthiest place on Fiore. Marcus's scowl softened, he'd let it slide. It wasn't like Nathan was taking ALL the credit, besides, he kind of deserved this. Marcus still wanted to kick Nathan's ass, but he supposed he could reserve it for a later date. The group of knights returned shortly, carrying the Black Box in tow. They had met up with Aiden and helped him out of the building. The black box would be taken to HQ were it would be destroyed, it was too dangerous to exist. Marcus made to turn to leave the area when someone tapped him on the shoulder. It was Nathan. He held out a small rod out for Marcus. It was Iustitia. "I found this in the building, figured it belonged to you." Marcus took the weapon. "Yes, it belongs to me." "Look about what happened just now-" "You owe us one, Me and Aiden." Nathan seemed to stutter for a moment, then paused. "Okay." Marcus didn't wait for the reply though, he was already gone, having hitched a ride with the other knights back to Chrysanthemum. Edited by Marcat, Oct 7 2013, 05:22 AM.
