"How do I look?"
|
There were many noises going on, but oddly enough, it wasn't the one to capture the attention of the contestants waiting in the back. After a harsh, scratching sound from the stage flooded into the area where the contestants were waiting, all those in the back would hear a small, if surprisingly cute, yelp from one of the contestants. Zak, who had been trying to avoid any eye contact with the other participants looked around to see if there was some sort of small animal around, but when he looked at the others for some sort of guidance, he was in for a treat. Apparently, one of his competitors turned out to be a hanyou, something that Zak had never witnessed before, but it did leave him wondering for a few moments with rambling thoughts like, "Should I pretend I don't notice the ears or tail; then again, that would be too painfully obvious not to say I saw, right?" It was silly for him to take such things with extreme caution as he did, but he certainly didn't want to offend anyone, plus he had to worry about how this was going to play effect in the competition they had both entered. Thankfully, these thoughts wouldn't be of a concern for too long of a time as they could all hear Waldo's familiar voice calling out for the contestants to enter the stage. As the other fifteen participants began making their way back onto the center stage, Zak stood up and tagged along shortly after making sure that he was least likely to be paid attention to. Surprisingly, when the young mage could finally see what all those crazy sounds had created, he had to double take. Everything had changed, from the size of the stage itself to the course-like battlefield that had been placed there. It was a lot to take in, but now that everything was starting to get moving in progress, the train to Waldo's Whacky Town was getting faster and faster, "Okay, ladies and gentlemen. Now is the time that you've all been waiting for, the first round of the tournament!" He paused for a moment, expecting the crowd to roar in cheer, but a few claps amongst the audience was all that was heard, "Well then, moving on... The first portion of our competition will consist of teams of two versus two. Obviously, rather than an all out brawl, this will be a test of wits and throwing arms as our competitors will duke it out in a water balloon fight." It didn't seem too complicated to Zak, but actually rather pleasant as it certainly made things a lot more fair amongst the competition. "Each team will be formed from those opposite to your location on the tournament chart; this means Benjamin and Takeo versus Jack and Teito comprises the first round. As such, we will ask that our remaining competitors take a seat in the reserved front row so that we may begin." Zak followed the contestants off the stage, some of which seemed eager to get this rolling and others quite displeased that it wasn't a fighting tournament, but they didn't complain any louder than under their own breath. He chose a seat at the far left end, paying more attention to the board to see who his partner would be than to those that would be taking seats next to him. "Let's see, if Kain's going to be on my team, then I ought to figure out who he is..." He looked to his right quite nervously, but with eleven people lining the row, it could certainly be any one of them and the majority of them seemed to be trying to figure out the same thing. Zak, figuring it would all play out soon enough, took out his notebook and began writing the tournament chart, putting a question mark behind the name of his imminent unknown ally. Who you calling chocobo head...

"Hmm, I could use that awfully convenient chest high wall for cover, and that cliff offers a good high ground to rain down watery death from," Kain thinking with his head tilted as he assessed the...battlefield, if one could call it that. The half demon couldn't help but to grin as Waldo didn't get the reaction he wanted, otherwise keeping himself behaved and waiting as his tail flicked side to side, quickly finding out how the first round will work, most importantly that he'd be on a team with Zak, following Waldo's pattern for the pairings. "Now who are you..." Taking a quick glance around at the competitors and finding himself wishing he had supernatural senses like Noel did, instead of just rather spectacular mundane ones. Of course, he didn't need to find out by himself, he could simply ask. Not one for being subtle in nearly any aspect of his life, as the competitors not immediately in the water balloon fight filed off stage, Kain nonchalantly simply called out, "Yo, which one of you is Zak?" Hoping he get at least some reply or indication of who his team mate was, if the half demon could work our who his ally was, he'd scramble his way past people and over chairs to take the seat next to Zak before anyone else could. Though of course if the other didn't make any indication of who he was, the inugami mage would simply shrug and end up plopping down somewhere in the middle of the front row, watching what was happening on stage for now. Which was quite interesting, as the case may be. The various coloured balloons were staged in various places all over the course so one would have to scramble from place to place simply for ammunition while also having to avoid incoming balloons, plus the white ones needed to send the others out of the game seemed rare at a quick glance, and in pretty exposed areas. The last of the 12 sitting down, the four about to 'do battle' on stage and split into two teams, Waldo had a massive grin on his face as he took several steps back to be out of the line of fire, speaking loudly to the crowd, "Well, let the first of four games for this stage of the tournament...BEGIN!" Benjamin, Takeo, Jack, and Teito springing into action and each heading towards the closest balloon they could see. |
