Happy New Year, FTG!!!!
And as a result of the New Year we have a simple little event for you all to get into the groove of things for this year of 20-13. It's not very difficult, hell it's not even very long, and if you want to know what it is... read below.
- In order to enter the event you must first choose one (1) of your accepted characters.
- Then, writing from their perspective, write a short story [no more than 750 words long] about the events of their life over the New Years break.
- This short story should be about what your character did on New Years Eve night and must also include your character making at least two (2) New Years Resolutions for the coming year.
And that's it, it's very easy. Simply post in this topic with your short story submission using the following template and your rewards shall be up on January 31st, which is coincidentally when this event closes.

Character: Yovel Sebedeus Submission:
The lonely path I take I was looking in my laboratory, everything was going fine. The results from the Lacryma were promising. It was interesting to note that the pollution weren’t magical in nature, but instead as I had found through translating the Fiorian text books, carbon waste. But even finding out what the cause was, it was difficult to find a solution. That is why I have the Lacrymas being tested. Each one tuned in a different manner, enchanted with a different programme were submerged in water filled tubes. As I injected pollution into the water, the lacryma crystals attempted to convert the pollution into something else. Either way it was a slow process. As I moved from the different nodes analysing the percentage of pollution being cleansed, it was not an easy process. One could not destroy the pollution, heck turning the lacryma into beacons to attract the pollution was hard enough so things were left to the numerous experiments.
Apparently tonight was an auspicious occasion, yet I decided not to attend. I followed a different calendar where we followed the solstice and equinox. Their celebrations didn’t interest me and so I decided to stay in my room. Vits was sleeping in his nest in the corner since it was late. A new day has arrived as the clock has ticked past midnight. It felt no different to any other day, but that rabble can enjoy their festivities. I had other matters to attend.
Still working like this is tiring. Maybe I should rest, but to get to my room involves going through the loud crowds and Vits hated waking up not knowing where I was. In the end I decided to sleep with him. Even though it was late I was not completely tired. The results and the plans were running through my head and that brought me back to my predicament. Looking at my fingers I have seven seals with the last to be obtained. That meant that I will be returning to the tribe, but even then I don’t think I’m worthy. These hands were stained in blood. I had killed over the past winter solstice and those deaths are on my name. How could I become a Druid?
It was then when I felt sick. My stomach was churning from my anxiety. It was confronting to know that in the past 10 years as learning to become a Druid can be undone by one year living in Fiore. I gripped my poncho and it was a really hard decision. Sometimes I would just want to rip my poncho off and be done with the entire thing, but there was always another side that stopped me. It was frustrating and confusing. Even so as I was deep in my thoughts, I could hear the celebrations outside. That was when I remembered that a tradition was to make two resolutions for the New Year. It was something about wanting to achieve a change or goal within the new year.
I still thought that it was utter bullshit, but what harm could it do. There was the potential that I might be abhorred from the tribe after they find out the things I have done. I might not see my friends or family again. I have met new people in the last solstice, but even then, they don’t have the time that I have spent with the ones I grew up with. So yeah… First resolution: I need to finish this experiment. I need to give it to the tribes to protect them and the forest. It’s the only thing I can do for them. And well since I probably won’t return home I might as well learn how to live in Fiore. Ah shit, why am I crying. Fuck. I don’t want to leave my home. I don’t want to not see anyone again, but I can’t. I have too much blood on my hands. I can’t even return home. I’ve turned into a monster, but I need to give them this. I need to protect them from the hell I’ve seen. I collapsed into Vits’ body who thankfully did not stir.
So yeah. I might as well prepare for my life after the Druids. I really don’t know what to do with myself. I’ll probably stay in Grimoire Heart, but other than that I really don’t have a purpose. So maybe I’ll just try to find a new place to fit in. I… I’m just so tired.
New Years Resolutions:
- #1: To complete the Terraforming device that would regulate pollution in the ground
- #2: To find a new purpose in life once I have been banished from my home

Character: Molly Hinamori Submission:
I don't need friends on New Years Eve I yawned looking at the pathetic people who oohed and aaahed at the fireworks that were exploding across the night sky. Everyone knew that fireworks could be made easily, but they still came to watch them. I walked along the river-bank and walked outside an inn there were many people laughing and enjoying themselves,I have no time for that. Celebration is the perfect time for your who to get close and stick a blade through your guts. I don't celebrate with the others, I am the one who stays in the shadows and watches the rest of you. I am the unsettling feeling you get when walking down a dark alley. I am a shadow.
Watching a group of young men fooling around reminded me of something very important. I need some more "Friends" friends are valuable assets for me and without them I wouldn't be here right now. My friends have bravely died for me or have been put into prison, all because of little old me. The best thing is that I get away without anyone noticing who the real killer was. I don't need friends because I will never have any.
I believe that New Year is a time for resolutions, no? Well I have some. First of all I need to get back into training as I can feel all the fat that is building up on my body after weeks of not exercising. Second of all I have to join Tartaros, what's a girl not to like about it? Hot men and destruction, Chaos and Jewels. that's what drives me onward, well maybe not hot men, I have had to kill a few of them too. I guess I should be heading home now, I have a lot of preparation to do and everyone in Fiore, watch out because I may be coming for you. New Years Resolutions:
- #1: Do More training
- #2: Join Tartaros

Character: Ecclair Farron Bellum Submission:
DAMN IT JUTO New years eve; it’s a time when people take the excuse given to them in order to go out and drink copious amounts of alcohol while partying like the world end at midnight. It wasn’t a time that Ecclair found enjoyable that was certain. Idiots and drunken people that were formerly somewhat tolerable were everywhere and so avoiding the streets that would only be chaos as far as she was concerned the knight was staying at home with her beloved baby chocobo Kishu. She had pretty much declined duty for the night in question due to the fact she had no interest in dealing with the drunken antics that would fill it. Sure it wasn’t something that knights were supposed to be able to do but when you were the princess of an allied nation you got some lee-way in the matter. Ecclair had prepared herself for the night well in advance and with her kitchen full of treats the woman was locked and loaded as far as her mission at hand for the night was concerned. It was far from her usual mission that was for sure; it lacked the danger and the whole aspect of death being around every corner but hey variety is the spice of life right?
After a shower most would consider freezing Ecclair was relaxed and dressed in her nightwear, with Kishu giving himself a ‘bath’ of his own using a small tea cup of water the knight sat down for the first in her all you can eat dessert marathon. While there was a television in the luxurious apartment she was given upon her arrival in Fiore it sat relatively untouched. It was clean due to the fact that the place was meticulously kept dusted and tidied by the cleaner that visited every other day but other then that the television hadn’t seen any love. Ecclair was a busy woman with her knight and diplomatic duties let alone when you factored in the things that she would have to deal with relating to her own nation and the training that she put herself through physically in order to maintain peak performance in battle. It was because of all those factors that she had never bothered to sit down and waste time watching the frivolous things on television but with nothing else to do for the night the appliance was about to get a little attention. Well it would have if a knock on the door didn’t interrupt her as soon as the volume on the television started sounding out.
Why was it that Juto Yamagami always seemed to push himself into her life at the worst possible times? Mumbling about this very thing Ecclair was quickly storming through the streets towards a little bar the man in question was known to frequent. Anger was evident on the face of the woman and even more evident in her stride, if there would have been brick walls in her path it wasn’t a far stretch to imagine her slamming straight through them unhindered. Why had she chosen to cut her peaceful night short in favour of heading to a bar you are likely asking? No? You aren’t asking yourself that? Well you would have been if you knew anything about the woman in question. Ecclair had been visited by a young private who had been ‘kind’ enough to inform her of a man in a bar drinking far more then he should have been and behaving in a way that he would regret later. Yeah you guessed it, the man he was referring to was Juto.
As she entered the bar Ecclair was struck by a realisation; she had been tricked. Sitting there at a table with a grin on his face wider then a Cheshire cat’s Juto had clearly been awaiting her arrival and it was obvious that he had bribed the young private into helping him get her there. “And you said I couldn’t get you to a bar with me tonight, didn’t even break a sweat Clair-bear”, with a wink Juto cemented his name in the wall of wrath and with a death glare stronger then medusa’s own Ecclair made a couple of new years resolutions then and there to herself. NEVER AGAIN WAS SHE HELPING JUTO YAMAGAMI! And NEVER AGAIN WAS SHE EATING THAT BRAND OF CHOCOLATE!. Yeah, it might have tasted good but it definitely wasn’t agreeing with her stomach. New Years Resolutions:
- #1: Never to eat yesher chocolate again
- #2: Never to help Juto Yamagami again

Character: Yukari Haruna Submission:
Kuh-LAHT-zuh - "Klutz" New Year’s Eve.
Something that I pretty much hated, because there were so many people and they were generally rather obnoxious that I’d easily get pissed off. Nah, not my cup of tea, but it was supposed to be celebrated all over the world, so I couldn’t escape it, much to my dismay. This day and the day after always did their very best to piss the hell out of me, and get me to go crazy or something. I really can’t control myself when I see people reveling in stupid fireworks while I’m just standing there being all “oh, okay, uh huh, so yeah, explode will you?”
And then I emerge from the train, tripping on the platform gap and falling face-down into the snow. Geez. I don’t even know why I’m this clumsy, and well, I see others derive comedy and hilarity from me so I don’t exactly like it either. I should totally try to work on my clumsiness in the new year, because right now it’s not exactly the best promotional pitch for anyone who wants to be all buddy-buddy with me. Not like I care, to be honest.
[Yuka] Nevertheless, they don’t really faze me as I head out, down the stairs leading out from the station, and down to the snow-paved streets of Belladonna. Beautiful, but not as beautiful as Coreopsis, or so I hear. I’m always tempted to pick up some snow, mold them into a ball, and then throw them at any random passer-by. Happy-go-lucky, it would seem, but, I guess I’m only the good side of myself. I don’t know whether I’d keep myself happy throughout this festival or something. It wasn’t even a festival for what it was worth, just a mass gathering that would, perhaps in other societies, be illegal due to the sheer number of people. I still don’t really know whether that’s the case, but enough of my rambling.
My fine light blond hair, according to others, loves winter. Perhaps because my hair is blond, that it looks almost the same as the snow in winter, and it didn’t really look much different from me just having smooth white hair. I don’t even know why I’m talking about this, really, because I’m not one to talk. Not really.
Yuki’s having a really rough time, I would expect, because the grumpy side of me always seems to surface whenever the two terms “winter” and “people” come into context. I can’t really peer into her mindset, though, because for what it’s worth we’re two completely different people in control of Yukari. Yes, even our collective name sounds almost like a hybrid of both our names. Yuka and Yuki. Yuka being me, Yuki being what I’m walking through – snow, and also the coldness and frigidity that comes with it.
[Yuki] Yup, I would guess that Yuka would be thinking of me. Lounging at the back of Yukari’s noggin I was pretty much figuratively setting fire to an effigy of whoever invented that New Year tradition. Whoever was so fucking smart to start exploding shit at the start of every year to hype people up for a yearly net enjoyment value of fuck all? Heck, even negative? So, despite my name being all associated with snow and whatnot, I really don’t bother with winter and the festivities that come with it. Heck, like many other species out there, I probably go into hibernation and don’t really update myself with the world once this season sets in. Yukari, meaning both Yuka and me, gets lethargic every time she steps out into the cold. It’s probably to do with the burning up of energy within the body to maintain the body temperature and stuff like that, but nevertheless, Yukari tends to get rather… inactive, at times, because of such a season. As Yukari’s breathing starts to get heavy as we continue our walk down the icy cold road, I am totally thinking of a really rigorous training regiment to get Yukari’s body in shape, because in my honest opinion, no pain no gain. Stamina training, perhaps, maybe even other training that I haven’t really thought of yet. But enough of that, Yukari’s hungry, and Yuka and I are still obligated to keep her fed because we both inhabit her. It won’t really do well for her to die of starvation, because that’d cause us to cease to exist too. Nevertheless, I don’t really care for festive foods - turkey, anyone? New Years Resolutions:
- #1: Stop being such a klutz
- #2: Go through an intensive training regiment
- #3: [Yuki's POV] Keep Yukari fed so that she won't die.
- #4: Have turkey to eat.

Character: Zak Kokoro Submission:
Submission Title Sitting on the old wooden bench in the park, Zak relaxed as he looked up to see a flock of birds leaving the tree as the wind shook the branches. He had grown accustomed to this spot, giving him that feeling of a home away from home, even if it wasn’t a shelter to live in or under. At the very least, it was a sole place that could give him peace and solitude away from the uproar of the city, though a passerby would make their way through the park occasionally. They probably had places to be or things to do, but not the small boy that sat by himself, whom had worn an intrigued expression on his face as he observed the birdies overhead. It was quite odd, you see, as the flock wasn’t diverse as one would naturally expect, but there seemed to be a lone robin that flew against the specs of black feathers as if he was one of them. He seemed to be getting along with them rather well, even if he was the odd one out, and it brought a smile to Zak’s face though he didn’t want to admit why. Returning his focus back down towards the book that rested on his lap, the young boy picked up his pen as he began scribbling on the page to finish the entry he was writing.
“Day (X) Well, life certainly is picking up here in Magnolia, especially with the coming of New Year’s. It was quite a spectacular display of enthusiasm, romance, and some new cultural experiences last night though, which (to be honest) really caught me off guard. It started off at sunfall yesterday, as I was writing my entry while I was walking towards Honeybee, which is why it was so abruptly cut off. I didn’t want to go back and finish it as it adds to the flair, though that’s probably just my two cents.
Anyways, I had found myself in the marketplace and much to my surprise, there was an overwhelming crowd that had formed, but they didn’t appear to be waiting in line. In fact, none of the stall owners were lingering at their stalls, nor were the store managers in their shops. The noise had gotten rather loud and I could barely hear myself think, but there was a lot of talking about New Year’s Eve going on from what little I could actually make out. Back in my old town, there wasn’t very much that we celebrated, but we did have a close-knit community that celebrated when we thought it was possible. With the size of the town though, we didn’t really make a big spectacle out of the start of a new year, but we did have a feast whenever it came around. Though, that was all we ever did in my experience, perhaps it varied from town to town like in this case.
It wasn’t until the crowd became dead silent that I became a little wary of my surroundings; half afraid that I would be randomly attacked out of nowhere and the other half was too nervous to ask what caused this sudden silence. Before I knew it, I heard a loud CRACK that sounded as if a gun had been shot right next to me. Nearly tripping over myself out of the surprise and shock, it turned out to be a fireworks display that showed off some fancy magic. I’ll have to look into it though because I’ve never researched anything like it before (while I’m at it, I simply must look some more into the crystals).
The ceremony had proceeded for the next ten or twenty minutes before everyone clapped and an announcer had made his way to a podium that stood on a stage in front of the audience. He seemed to have a good sense of humor, but had one thing that he wanted everyone to silently answer in their head, “What are your resolutions for the new year?” A lot of the people around me looked at each other, lost in thought, but mine had instantly come to mind. After a few moments, they shot off one last grand firework that looked like Fairy Tail’s guild mark and everyone made their way home. It was quite fun, but I want to make sure I never forget mine… I must make it into that guild, that’s all I ask. Maybe even one day, I’ll become as strong as Noel…”
New Years Resolutions:
- #1: Make it into Fairy Tail
- #2: Become as strong as Noel (yeah right).

Character: Azrael Thyne Submission:
Forever Alone Among Many I stood alone at the back of a rickety, wooden, canoe-shaped boat, with a long, wooden oar in my hands. If it wasn't for these gloves the previous owner "Gave" me, my hands would be blistered eyesores with large splinters digging within bone. I sighed, bored, my thirteen hour boat ride has brought the worst in me. For the first few hours, I sang the song my mother, with her angelic voice, whispered to me in order for me to sleep. But after awhile my voice failed me, my virus burning my lungs. I look up, awakening from an idle daydream, and spot a small orb of orange illuminating the distance. By now I realise that it is now not only early morning, but that the ocean I was rowing across was drenched in a thick and chilling mist, preventing sight further than five feet. I say chilling because the way the orb seems to beckon me sends an unusual shiver up my normally unfazed spine. I wonder if it is worth having a look at the origin of the ghostly light. After a few moments of logical thought, I knew that it would be best to reach or follow the light in case it was an inn, as if I may collapse from exhaustion without any rest, or a sailor with directions. I spent many minutes fighting the current to the orange ball and as I get close, I notice more lights aligned with the other and also a small amount of chatter. Upon tying my boat to a short pier I found, I walked down it and set foot on a patch of muddy grass. I sigh, looking around, the several orange lights turned out to be torches around a large clearing in a forest which seems to span the entirety of this unknown island. I thought there would be people here, but I guess I was wrong. I was about to leave before I felt a presence... Something was watching me. Drawing my long steel katana from it’s’ scabbard upon my hip and pointing toward a large shrub where I felt it come from. "Make you known." I say with a hostile tone to the presence. With that I heard a childish giggle and felt many... many eyes upon me. Naturally, I felt threatened albeit calm as always, but upon hearing the giggle I take a dangerous chance and sheathe my blade. "I am no threat to you. Come out." I look around for a moment when I was surprised to feel something tug on my cloak. I span and clamped a hand around the hilt of my blade but loosened myself when I saw a young girl looking up at me with bright blue eyes. She couldn't have been older than six years old and she wore a long white princess style dress. I stared at the child in confusion, when an older woman burst from the shrubbery and picked up the child, backing away. I presume she was the mother... Mother... An old man with unique white and gold robes walked towards me. He explained who he was, who they were and why they were there. Apparently they were celebrating the New Year by lighting torches and praying to their gods. It all sounded boring to me, but I was invited to join the feast and like a gentleman... A hungry gentleman... I accepted. As I ate I was surrounded by children of all ages and was bombarded with questions. Of course, I answered only one. "I'm looking for a cure for my mother..." Most children lost interest after a while of no responses and left me alone with my lonesome memories of my powerful, wonderous... Dying mother. The old man approached me once more, asking me what I will wish for with the New Year. I told him, keeping my true wish secret. "I wish for a new blade..." I knew he saw through me as he simply nodded and politely asked me to leave. I obeyed and left on my boat, when I saw the girl running up the pier and wave to me. I smiled, fakery, and waved back, although I did...Feel...Something as I waved and watched her watch me disappear into the mist as she did… Something warm. I smiled to myself for the first time in years, no longer hungry, thirsty or even tired, and cut through the water and mist, awaiting the land. New Years Resolutions:
- #1: Find a Cure for Mother
- #2: Become Powerful Enough to Wield True Chaos Magic
- #3: Master True Chaos Magic
- #4: Destroy the Council

Character: Teeyan Solna Submission:
Fireworks and stars! New Year’s Eve, a day of celebrations which spill over to the next day, what a wondrous, exciting and merry time, for some. Teeyan sat back in the maroon armchair of the empty tavern. It looked like everyone was out watching the Magnolia spectacle put on year after year. Fireworks flying up into the air and bursting into a bloom of colour, Teeyan sighed, once you've seen it once, it doesn't seem as special each year. However, it wasn't like the summoner had done much, it was quite the opposite in fact. Most the day he sat in here, watching the world walk by out of the small window alcove he was sat in. A roaring fire warmed him from behind, its heat hugging him like a mother's embrace. No friends in this town, instead all he had was in his right hand. Almost a chalice of deep red wine, he'd bought two bottles for his time here, one was three quarters empty and he felt its mesmerizing effects. That was his only friend, a fine wine, one which placed itself high in his top ten, he was yet to find the best though.
However that wasn’t true this year, this year was different, this year as if by magic (which was indeed what it was), he had four magnificent people to spend the last minutes of this year with, his summons. Reaching into the pouch pocket he drew all four of them, each of them almost humming with the sound of power. He hadn’t tried this before, drawing all of them out at once. Of course it wouldn’t work in battle, no for very long but Teeyan was sure he could call forth his spirits for them to celebrate with him. Closing his eyes all fell silent. No firework broke it, a ceasefire for a minute or so. Maybe someone was making a speech, or even the big climax was coming. It didn’t matter for Teeyan as he supplied each one with his magic.
BANG! A rocket burst, illuminating the street outside with reds and blues. BANG! Another, yet this time indoors, a sprinkling of dust fell upon Teeyan, his nose twitching and a sneeze carrying through. Eyes open wide, startled by the sudden sneeze, the blonde haired mage couldn’t help but smile. In front of him were three standing summons, the forth sat down due to the fact he was about eight foot tall! “Prince!” Apus exclaimed, her usually shy manner breaking for a moment to show her happiness at seeing her master. She ran forward, embracing Teeyan before she realised that it was unlike her. Stepping back with a plush her master couldn’t help but smile. “It’s good to see you Birdy, it’s good to see all of you,” Teeyan chimed, a beaming grin showing just how elated he was.
A deep loud voice filled the tavern, making the chairs and tables wobble with the sheer amount of decibels it created, “Little Bro called us, he want us here with him. Mensa happy!” The golem sounded like he too was smiling, yet that was impossible since he had no mouth. A large hand extended towards Teeyan, knocking a table over and causing a few glasses to smash. “Oops.” Mensa boomed, his clumsiness getting the best of him. Gently scratching the golem’s finger its sadness at breaking something vanished, it was happy that its master treated him so.
“Now that’s what I’m talking about, free booze and a comfy chair…” Teeyan heard, turning his head towards the matching armchair next to him. Lazily led across it was Pictor, his devilish charm exuding from every pore. A pop of a cork joined the crackle of the fire as Pictor removed it with his teeth, spitting it out onto the floor. No sooner had it bounced around than had the spirit began chugging its contents. Granted it was an admirable feat, yet Teeyan knew Pic was not a good drinker. He shot a glance at Lyra, “Well my little Idol, I’ll leave him to you!” Teeyan laughed Apus and Mensa joining in. A divarish scream almost pierced Teeyans eardrums, though she accepted her fate, after all she was his idol. This was nice, though he wanted more of a party. More friends more summon...a guild. “To the new year!” their master announced, raising his glass in celebration, BANG, the final firework of the year sang out. It was time for the New Year to begin.
New Years Resolutions:
- #1: To Find the Top Fine Wine in Fiore
- #2: To Join a Guild
- #3: To befriend new summons and people

Character: Erick Earthborn Submission:
Alone Again Tomorrow would be the start of a new year. Now normally this wouldn’t have done much to excite Erick. Normally a new year was merely another year that would be spent drifting from town to town, taking work as he could find it. However this year would be different, he would make sure of it. This time he had finally learned how to control his magic enough to create actually techniques. This time he would finally began journeying to grow stronger and experience new things, not just to avoid his old enemies.
Looking around his bare hotel room, he could see that he hadn’t missed anything. Erick had packed his backpack with everything he owned, not very much really, in preparation for an early start the next day. While he had technically been ready to leave for a few days, he decided that starting his journey on New Year’s Day had a wonderful symbolism that would hopefully bring him good luck. Flopping back on his bed, he reflected back on the last seven years of his life.
His life had been somewhat lonely and extremely busy since the death of his foster father seven years ago. It hadn’t been easy supporting himself from the age of fourteen, let alone dodging the people after him at the same time. Having to leave each location after only a short few weeks meant that he had never really got to know anyone particularly well. This was probably his greatest regret, and the thing his was most determined to change. One day he would be strong enough to turn around and face his pursuers, thus allowing him to live his life as he wished.
His other regret from the last seven year’s was the lack of time he was able to spend working on his magic and martial arts. Most of his time was taken up by working for a living and the almost constant traveling. This was the reason it took him seven years to get a modicum of control over his magic. Especially as he only really knew the basic’s and he had to teach himself everything else. Still, he had worked hard and had managed to save enough money to finally take a well earned brake. Also, once he could finally work as a mage, it would be far easier to earn money.
Growing bored with his musings (read self pity), he began reviewing his master plan for the future. The first order of business was to grow strong enough to join one of the main light guilds. The second order of business was, of course, to join one of the aforementioned guilds. This would allow him to work as a mage to earn his living. The third part of the plan was to, hopefully, make some new friends. The fourth, and final, part of the plan was to grow even stronger; strong enough to protect said friends. That was basically the whole plan; he would work out the actual details of how to achieve each part as he went.
Glancing at his clock, he realized that it was getting late. As he was alone he felt there was no real reason to wait until midnight, preferring to get enough sleep to leave early. After checking his pack one more time, he undressed and slipped under the covers. It took him some time to grow tired enough to sleep, as he was understandably excited about what the New Year would bring. Finally, after about half an hour, he began to slip into unconsciousness and started dreaming about the future. This new year would be the best one since his childhood.
New Years Resolutions:
- #1: Join a guild and make some friends.
- #2: Grow strong enough to protect said friends.
