Hayden sighed in relief as Reijo denied the presence of an active Raven Tail mage. There was no way that the other Exquip mage was there. A chill ran up Hayden's spine. The suited man standing over his parents' dead bodies had born a strange resemblance to his father. It was chilling to think that there was even a tiny chance that the two were related. No, it was downright horrifying. That would mean Hayden's own flesh and blood had killed his parents, and almost killed him. There was no way, with his shiver and how clearly deep in thought he had been, to avoid Reijo's question. It wasn't a pleasant thought, telling someone else, but the medium didn't look like a gossip. As he spoke, his voice rose; he was clearly upset by the mere thought of what had happened. "It's more than not liking them, Reijo. I loathe them all for what they did. It's because of those monsters that I have to get to Magnolia. They..." he choked off, not able to outright say what they had done. He was more subdued as he continued, barely audible by the time he finished. "I... they... I'm an orphan because of Raven Tail, and if they catch me, I'll be a corpse. That's why I don't want to meet one of their mages." Adjusting his bow, he shivered again, starting for the door, but stopping as he reached it, with his hand on the door handle. "Can you... keep this to yourself? I mean, the whole thing. I can't ask for everyone's silence about me walking into the center of town with a dead squirrel, but I don't think anyone but you caught my name. Maybe they'll leave you alone if they think it isn't me who everyone saw. Hell, maybe they'll take one look at all the geezers around here and write off the whole village. Tully is the last place I thought I'd end up, I thought I was making a beeline to Magnolia." |

Reijo had been focusing intently on the whole scenario, the dialogue was rocking what eardrums he had to speak of. He was completely focused, nodding when something required a nod, sometimes when it didn't. He felt like he was finally going to complete a dialogue on topic for once, but then something hit his mind... Beeline. "B-line?" he would mutter questioningly, now imagining a giant hike in the shape of an upper case 'B' that managed to end at Magnolia. The journey in his mind was fierce, treacherous even. Yet the crudely imagined stick hero managed to make it to Magnolia on time, and with a comical victory hop for a moment, Reijo found himself completely forgetting the subject at hand asides 'B-line'. "Why would you want to travel in the shape of a 'B'? A lowercase 'l' sounds much more efficient, unless a tree gets in your way. Come to think of it, wouldn't a B also have way more trees. Why are trees always in the way of people who travel? That's annoying, they should get rid of trees..." he had pretty much entirely forgotten what he was talking about a few moments ago, and was now in favor of tree-removal. |

Hayden was taken aback for a moment by Reijo's random change of subject. Somehow, the kid kept on going, and going, until he arrived at the conclusion that trees should be eradicated. What the hell? He sighed. "It's a figure of speech. 'Making a beeline' means taking the most direct route possible. I'm just gonna stick to the roads from here on out." He started towards the door again, leaving the house of the random spirit medium carving out a living helping people talk to deceased loved ones. I might just visit you again some day, as a customer, Reijo. Good luck. As the green-haired mage walked off towards Magnolia, he wondered exactly what a kid like that would need luck with, waving to the people he passed. Probably near everything. ((EXIT STAGE THATAWAY! Reijo would sigh a bit and sit back in his chair that he had been in this whole time. As that Hayden character would start to leave saying where he was headed, Reijo would nod, "Oh. That's what you meant. I guess I'll seeya around then, maybe. Well the odds of us meeting again are technically slim since you are leaving the town in which I live." As the door would shut behind Hayden, Reijo would have lost his train of thought and would merely smile more, "I guess I'm alone then." Suddenly he would see countless ghosts pouring into his home as he would be surrounded by them, "That's always nice... I guess... Wait a minute..." Reijo would look at the door now, shocked a little by his own discovery. It was groundbreaking, mind-blowing even! At least to him... "That guy's hair was green," he would say... getting lost in thought. ~Fin~ |
