So the red-haired man decided to keep following them. Clear had a couple of options about him. Now that they were at a fairly secluded part of Oshibana they could attack the man without causing much fuss. Clear was starting to get more and more irritated by his behavior, couldn't he just leave them alone? Did he have to actually go to all the trouble of following them and risk his life? "You... you seriously don't learn, do you? If you or your pet so much as think of entering the house, you will be considered enemies. This is the final warning I will give you, stay out of our way." Clear stated calmly. He was completely prepared to attack the man, he risked nothing fighting in Oshibana. The town was a place were trouble was abundant, the knights didn't have any time to deal with them. Meanwhile, San's summon was exploring the house. It was a pretty small apartment, meant for two people to live in it. The front door the two of them were located at led directly to the living room, there was no hallway to speak of. From there, the living room was connected to three rooms; the kitchen, bathroom and bedroom. The living room had an old dusty couch as well as a small wooden table. The kitchen had several cupboards which were all empty and full of dust. There was no fridge, it got removed when Clear moved out. The back door was connected to the kitchen. The bathroom had a single toilet which was ready to break down, a small shower and sink. There were two beds inside the bedroom, one fairly smaller than the other. There was also an old drawer which was now completely empty. Everything in the old apartment was in a sorry state, an indication that nobody had been inside it for years. Of course, San's summon would find no traps to speak of, no items of worth and nothing that would stand out whatsoever. Moving back outside, Clear was now wary of the red haired man and everything he said was carefully volumed so that only San could hear him. "It's a small house. It only has a living room, bathroom, kitchen and bedroom. All of them have the minimum necessities in them. And as for hidden passages... I don't remember." Clear told San. Something about the last part made his head feel fuzzy. It was as if he knew something about a hidden passage but he couldn't tell for sure. But for the time being he was pretty sure that there was no such thing. Perhaps he was mistaken, but only time would tell. "Now, as soon as the one you summoned goes through the entire house we will move in. Would it be too much to ask you to place someone as a watcher outside? Make sure these two don't try anything funny. Just a heads up, feel free to attack them if they enter. Nobody will notice a ruckus at this part of town." Clear added. After all was said and done, Clear was ready to simply break the lock on the door and enter the house. Traces of his trespass would be left behind, but it wasn't as if nobody knew they were going there. Not that it mattered, they weren't going to stay there long enough for anyone to catch them. The only problem would arise when the time to leave Oshibana came. That would be when their pursuers would likely strike. They had more than enough time to prepare a plan. |

And... Several minutes later, San's head raised up abruptly, himself standing back up. "He is finished," he promptly announced, "And he has left the premises; he tells me that he has found no imminent danger, no mechanism of sorts of lingering beast or madman, though he does want you to be aware that it may be lethal if one is allergic to dust to enter such a place." He nodded. "He has desummoned himself already; you are free to enter." He himself was planning on going in too, and so his choice of sentinel would be- "Kuilei." "Yes, Master San?" Guard the front door. With your body directly blocking it, if you must. Permit entry to none," he commanded, to which the golem slowly nodded. "And by none, I am guessing that you mean..." the golem pointed a finger in the general direction of a certain figure, and San nodded again. "Precisely." As an extra precaution, San also silently summoned a figure above them; that is, a being came into existence out of nowhere, right on top of the roof. Of course, he chose a summon most suitable to being a sentry and watchman, and one he believed could most easily deter the two biggest potential threats he and Clear understood to be at the moment. Turning to Clear, he confirmed the younger mage's wishes. "Consider it done, and more," San quietly said, prepared to follow Clear into the house. Before that, though, a last minute order, which San said aloud and seemingly to no one in particular. "If assaulted, or break-in attempted, permission to react accordingly by any means - granted." He then turned to the side, muttering to himself. "There. Secured, and that will definitely make his day." He didn't clarify further; for him to know, was sufficient. Now, the matter of entry into the house and the presumable search itself - "To save time, why not we divide to search? It is your house, therefore the more personal areas - the bedroom and bathroom you look, and I will scour through the living room and the kitchen areas. Or perhaps you wish to look through it all yourself? I would not have the knowledge of it as you do, so there is possibility of my missing important things." He was considering all he could about the subject at hand, and finally reached a conclusion - "The safest method may work - if we find more exits from other places within the house, I will guard those myself." Better himself a meatshield, than Clear; he wouldn't mind if he had to clash against certain figures as he was, anyways. Edited by Cryool, Nov 20 2012, 09:32 PM.

Both Riven and Tyki had taken to sitting on the ground. That is, Riven summoned Tyki over back to the front, to which the tiger was somehow upset with and the large feline lay on the ground, not bothering with the dirt. Riven sat before Tyki and leaned back at the large animal like it were some backrest of a chair. The two of them watched as Clear and San got into more conversation and listened as the red garbed man debriefed the other of what has transpired with his summon inside the house. Riven crunched his nose at the thought of dust. There was nothing noble about getting dirty just to sneeze without end, so perhaps staying outside was the better choice. Then the two had finally decided to proceed inside and the golem was left to guard the front. Of course, Riven and Tyki flashed their ominously mischievous smiles back at the being when he was first commanded to take watch and Kuilei had pointed at them. It goes to show that Clear and San were far from being accepting to their presence just yet. But you see, there was something intriguing about the two that compelled Riven to simply come along. Perhaps it the mystery or perhaps their funny reactions to how he would play around with them. It did help that Tyki was also excited around them. <Can I play with him now?> the tiger asked as he raised a paw to lick clean. "And why would you?" Riven asked, adjusting his sitting as he nuzzled his face on the tiger's soft fur. <Coz he's stupid.> "That's not nice, Tyki. Just because he's a rock doesn't mean he's stupid." then Riven looked back at Kuilei and smiled with a wave, "I mean, sure it'd be fun to see you both battling it out but at this point, the first to move unwittingly will be the stupid one." <Are you calling me stupid?> "Don't I always?" Riven teased and gave the tiger a pat, "Don't worry, you'll have your share of the fun soon." Tyki made a soft mew before proceeding to lick his paw again while his eyes were dead-straight at the rock before the entrance. It wasn't that he really thought he was stupid but to think that a golem would listen to a human and do his bidding was simply outrageous. <Maybe he has a thing for old red garbed guys then?> "Maybe. Now's let's just wait this out." |

Clear nodded back at San to confirm everything and proceeded to finally enter the house. He turned his head one last time and looked at the two annoyances that were following them. They took every measure they could in order to keep them at bay, but he still felt uneasy about them. Who was to say they wouldn't just burst into the house and do their own thing? But he didn't have any more time to waste thinking about them, so he entered the house, closely followed by San. Upon stepping foot inside the house, Clear was assaulted by a wave of dust. San's summon was right, the place was indeed filled with dust to the brim, it looked exactly like one would expect a place not visited in years. Clear coughed for a few seconds, waving his hand in front of his face to drive the dust away. When the initial hit from the dust was over, Clear took a better look around him. It was a really nostalgic sight, the living room he had spent so much time of his life in was now before his eyes once more. He could remember sitting down on the couch and reading books with his mother, those were good times long past. "It would be better if we split up. Let's do it was you say, I will check the bedroom and bathroom, you take the living room and kitchen. Don't worry about missing anything important, I'm not sure what we're looking for either. Anything that looks different, any minor detail, that's what we're looking for. If you find an item with a symbol or writing on it, let me know." Clear told San before leaving to go check up on the bathroom. He did think that it wasn't the best place to check first, but he had to start somewhere. When he walked into the bathroom, the stench was enough to make him cover his nose. It smelled like a sewer, and that was putting it kindly, it hadn't been cleaned in ages and there were stains all over the place. The toilet was not of importance and neither was the shower. The only place Clear deemed he should check was the sink. There was a mirror directly above it, cracked in many places, as well as a cupboard above that. Clear opened that and found some old containers. There was a shampoo bottle, a piece of dry soap and a toothbrush. Nothing else was in there, so he happily exited the room to check other areas. The bedroom was probably the most important place of the house and Clear entered it with high expectations. There, he found his and his mother's old beds. Despite the bad state the room was in, it made him feel at ease. It had a feeling of home, a familiar feeling he hadn't felt in a long time. He brushed away the dust on his bed and took a seat on it, that brought back a lot of memories from his childhood. He would lie on that table while his mother read him bedtime stories, she would nurse him there when he was sick, this was the most comfortable place for him. Shaking his head, he got up and checked out the rest of the room. There was only an old bedstand, one that had a single drawer. The drawer was empty, much to Clear's dismay. The rest of the room didn't feel like it had anything of importance either. Perhaps Jerred had lied to them, was there really nothing there? No, that couldn't be it. Deep inside him Clear could tell that there was more than met the eye, there was something important in that house and he was going to find it no matter what. |

San nodded. "As you wish, then," he replied, walking off in the other direction, beginning his search in the living room. "If you hear disturbances, do not hesitate to call me - I have assigned a guard on the roof, in addition to Kuilei on the main entrance. I do not think they will attack us now, but it never hurts to keep alert." That, and San wasn't certain if he had properly guarded every entrance - he knew not the layout of Clear's old house, obviously, so he was still highly suspicious of secret entrances and all of that kind of stuff. So, with an eye out especially for the unusual, San scoured through the living room. Which would have been extremely bad for his health, if not for the fact he had already died. "He was right. Dust. Dust everywhere," he dryly commented, as he looked over the room first - it appeared rather average for a home in Fiore, the traditional furniture, save all worn and covered in dust. "The couch...nothing unusual here. Nothing unusual anywhere, in fact," he said to himself. "The drawers and shelves?" He pulled them open as carefully as he could, carefully replacing them once he determined the contents. For the most part, it went something along the lines of "Empty...empty...empty...a notepad?" A moment of examination. "Blank; may as well be empty." He did this to each and every shelf and drawer, ascertaining that nothing of interest were in any of them. "Perhaps from another angle?" He thought, and the undead mage went down on his knees, peeking down to see what was under the tables and couches and what not - long story short, he found many things, none of which would help them, and several of which were still alive. Several minutes later, San rose and left the living room, his body slightly covered with a layer of dust and himself not feeling entirely safe after observing several spiders scurrying down under the table. He had killed them, of course, presuming that for all he knew there could have been a shapeshifter around, but that did little to ease himself. "Now the kitchen..." Stepping into it, San found it to be just as bad, if not worse, than the living room - "Shelves and drawers. Shelves and Drawers everywhere." After the incident with the spiders, he was a bit more cautious, and so slowly opened each and every one of them with his hand on the handle of his blade - he shouldn't have been worried. All he ended up finding were utensils, china, and kitchenware, and not even very modern ones at that. "Hrm...this knife is dull," he mused, examining one himself. "So is this one. And this one. and these." - he wasn't going to find anything remotely interesting for a while. Outside, Kuilei was still standing guard, his back leaning against the door; he was standing straight up, and his body appeared to have frozen as if really a statue. |

The two were seemingly taking their time inside - was what Riven wanted to say but he was already amused at looking at the rock by the entrance. He smiled at the thought that the rock was being a good pet to its master and keeping watch but he also wondered just how strong this creature was. Tyki must have read Riven's mind when the tiger slipped out from under Riven's back, forcing the mage to fall on his back and lay there for a good long minute before coming to a sit and patting the dust off his jacket. He watched as Tyki crawled on the ground like some commando trying to be stealthy and avoid detection when it was quite clear that the golem was watching him intently. Riven couldn't help but smile at the sight. Tyki stayed low on the ground, almost rubbing his belly on the dirt as he crawled on the ground until he neared the golem. He then paused and raised his rear as his tail wagged from side to side. He watched the golem with curious eyes, tilting his head from side to side to see if there was any reaction. Then he neared and licked the golem's leg, nuzzled the side of his face on the rock and the purred. He then sat down, lowering his rear and leaned against the golem before talking to it through his vibration magic that echoed his words into the other's mind, <Let's play! I'm hungry but I can't eat the people here so let's play instead.> He said. Of course, both paws were now up and leaning to hold the golem's waist. ((OOC: pardon the shortness)) |

Clear returned to the living room after not finding anything in the other two rooms. "Well, that was a waste of time. I didn't expect to have a huge clue flying at my face, but there's nothing here. Maybe Jerred was lying at us from the start. Did you... never mind." Clear was planning on asking San if he had found anything, but judging from the look on his face and the amount of dust that was covering him, the answer was no. Clear stood in the middle of the living room, thinking of anything he might have missed. Could there have been another room in there that he had forgotten about? A basement or something similar? "I think there was..." he mumbled to himself. He shot a glance at the table in the middle of the room, there were signs that San had just moved it during his search, the dust leaving a trail behind it. There couldn't have been anything there that San could miss, nothing visible with the naked eye at least. Clear knelt down on the floor and examined it closely. There was practically nothing where the table was moments ago, no indication of a path leading to another room like Clear hoped to find. He even wiped the dust away, he could still find nothing. Then it happened. When Clear placed his hand on the floor, there was a dim blue light that shone from it. Clear flinched, he was surprised at the sudden development. The light grew brighter and after a few seconds there was a clicking sound. The floor's tiles shifted, revealing a trap door. Clear hesitantly moved his hand to the handle, and the door opened with no resistance. He pulled the door upwards and was hit by another wave of dust. After coughing for a while, he wiped the dust away and cleared his vision. He could see a stairway in front of him, one that descended deep into a dark room. "San, I think this is it. We may have found what we were looking for since the beginning. I'm going in, follow me if you wish." Clear said as he walked down the stairs. His visibility was little but he made sure to walk slowly in order not to fall. On his final step, there was a flickering of light, four blue flames appeared, one in each corner of the room. They revealed the room to be what Clear suspected from the start, a basement. It was a small space, barely enough for two people to stand next to each other. The only items in it were a table and a notebook resting atop it. Clear could feel his heart pumping fast, he extended his hand towards the notebook and took it in his hands. The words "My Diary" were written on the front in perfect handwriting. Clear didn't even need to open the book, he could immediately tell it used to belong to his mother. His hands trembling, he opened the diary and took a look inside the first page. There was a date, a date before Clear was born, and the same handwriting as in the cover. It spoke of mundane events, things his mother had been through in the past. The first pages were scarce, each date was really far away from the others, some even years apart. But there was no mistaking it, this diary used to belong to River Crystal, Clear's mother. This was the item Clear was looking for, evidence of the person responsible for her death was written in there. Clear could tell even without reading it, the way he found the book spoke by itself. After taking it in his hands, Clear finally remembered the details behind this room. It was a normal basement, but there was a charm at its entrance. A charm designed to let only River and her family open the door. That was why Clear could open it while San would have been unable to even if he bashed the floor with a hammer. |

Kuilei neither spoke, nor moved - he was well aware of how he talked, and at the same time fearful that he could do a single wrong move that might create chaos and ruin all that Clear and San were working for. That did not mean that nothing happened, though; rather, simply nothing under his control happened. His emotions were not controllable - as he stood there, the golem's body began to shift. First, the stones that he was composed of changed in both color and texture, becoming darker and rougher. At the same time, the blue crystals on himself retracted. The stones themselves began to change in shape as well, rendering his body wider in stature, his arms thicker and more bestial while his legs both thickened and shrunk, his body extending to make up for the missing height. Lastly, and most perturbing, cracks began to open up in his body, from which a red flame-like aura was emitting. Half a minute's worth of change, and Kuilei looked entirely different - from a glorious statue to a human-sized volcanic monster. Meanwhile, the disturbance Clear had caused made San leap back, and almost draw his blade. "That there - has to be magic, no doubt, and very specified magic as well," he commented. "Perhaps it would have been easier had we simply allowed you to go through the entire place alone at first. I am still not entirely at ease about having only equal numbers to match the ones outside." He quickly moved behind Clear, following him into the basement; like hell was he going to miss the fruits of his having to drown himself in dust killing spiders. "Be careful, one can never doubt the possibility of-" San started, though it was too late for what he was saying; Clear had already entered the bottom, and he appeared to be in perfectly good condition. Watching him, San had nothing to say when the water mage took up the only object of interest in the basement, the book. He was, after all, illiterate - he couldn't even guess that the book contained the memoirs of Clear's mother. Finally, several minutes later, he worked up the notion to ask. "Is this what we are looking for?" he said. "What does it contain?" He had no intention of explicitly stating his illiteracy, but his curiosity at the moment was almost, almost enough to overcome it. "Read through it, here, or perhaps up the stairs where the natural light is, and tell me what you find. It should be much faster than mine ancient eyes scouring through. I can barely see anything here, and both you and I know taking off my spectacles is not a viable option." With that, he began to move back up the stairs. |

"Hooh?" <Hooh?> Both master and pet were in awe as they watched the golem react to Tyki's mischief in a way that they both never had expected. For one, the rock had turned far from its usual happy-go-lucky and easy to be settled with form and was now a large red flowing bulky titan. Well, not as tall as earlier but still formidable with how wide he had become in terms of width. Tyki backed off a bit and came back to Riven's side just as the redhead had stood up. Apparently, the other's affinity to flame had sparked Riven's interest as he watched the golem a little more. "So you were hiding something interesting down there." He said as he began to take a few steps forward before stopping just a meter away from the front door. From there, he noticed a strange shadow on the ground and looked up to find another being by the roof. He clicked his tongue at the thought that the red garbed guy was really being too cautious, albeit, pesky in nature. But he brought his attention back to the golem and smiled devilishly. "I like fire. I like your color. Want to see whose spark is the brightest?" He asked before realizing that something was off. <Master, I think it's meant to stop us.> Tyki said nuzzling his head behind Riven and slipping a glance to the large golem out front. Riven nodded at the thought and tried to move to the side to see if the golem would adjust his pace to stop them. And just to make things fun, he even said, "You know, one could always make a new door. A window is an opening too. There are many ways to enter a house." |

"This book. This is definitely what we came here for. This is my mother's diary. It contains records from back when she was still a child. There should be substantial evidence here, unless Jerred was lying to us from the start. Still, why would she go to all the trouble of hiding this in such a secure place if it was nothing important? I only remembered this now because my mother had told me once when I was young, but this basement would only open for a member of the Crystal family. Apparently, it was something my grandfather set up in order to hide his valuables. If my mother put her diary in here, it must mean it's something worth having." Clear replied to San. He closely followed behind him, reading in that basement was going to be taxing for his eyesight, even with the lighting. As soon as they exited the basement, the door closed by itself and was sealed almost immediately. It was a pretty impressive mechanism, one that Clear would like to have on his own room if possible. But the possibility of that happening was highly unlikely. Clear took a seat on one of the dusty couches, ignoring the small cloud of dust that rose up when he did that. Clear started turning the pages of the diary. It started from when his mother turned six, that was when she received the diary as a present from her mother, or so it said in it. It moved on, it had few records of semi-important events, things a kid and in turn a teenager would care about. What happened in school, a date she once had, a fight with her best friend, everyday events. Clear chuckles at some of them, like the one where her brother pulled a prank on her and she was crying about it. It didn't feel like he was reading the story of a great mage, like his mother was supposed to be, just the mundane events of a normal girl. William's, Clear's uncle's, story also seemed to connect, the day he left the family was also recorded in it. Clear didn't care about those things, no matter how much he wanted to learn about his mother, now wasn't a good time. He flipped the pages until he found something that caught his eye, the mention of a guild. "Today I finally joined a small local guild of mages. I'm so excited to finally be in the same business as my brother. Perhaps we will be as well known as the guild he is in one day!" So Jerred was speaking the truth, River was indeed part of a guild. Following that, most entries spoke about the events that took place in the guild, the arguments she had with the other members, the missions she took, how she rose through the ranks of the guild and became a pretty well-known person. According to the diary, there was nobody in Oshibana that did not know her name. Kind of ironic, a person everybody once knew was now but a shadow in their memories. And thus her days passed, her fame and power growing rapidly. Everything seemed peaceful up to that point, there was nothing that would cause anyone to have a reason to hate her. Then there was one entry that seemed more important. "Today I met a really interesting person. I hope I get to know him better." Clear paused for a moment. Could this be... Could this person she is talking about actually be his father? His heart was throbbing like crazy, he was always curious to know more about his father, but all his mother ever said was that he shouldn't look into it. That his father was some important person she didn't even know herself. Somehow, Clear was always suspicious about that story. Was what his mother had said really true, or was she keeping things from him? After that point, nearly all entries were about that person. His first name was Lester, his last name was not written down so far. He was staying in Oshibana for some kind of work and he met River by chance. He was curious to meet the mage everyone was talking about. That was how their relationship bloomed, every little thing that happened between them was there. Clear had no doubts anymore, this Lester was definitely his father. He left a while after their meeting, but he kept in touch with River through letters. Yet she kept one thing from him, the fact that she was pregnant with his child. She didn't want to be a bother to him, she kept Clear a secret and raised him alone. After she left the guild, it disbanded soon afterwards. She used her saved up earnings to buy a bookstore and moved in a new house, the very same Clear and San were in at that moment. The entries became more spread out after that, it was evident that River no longer had the time to write in her diary; taking care of Clear consumed most of her time. That made Clear feel a little guilty, because of him his mother had to give up her job as a mage and settle down with a job she didn't necessarily like that much. After reading for a while, Clear came upon another major event in his mother's life. One day, she decided to finally reveal Clear's existence to Lester. While things didn't seem to change between them at first, River knew she was inconveniencing him. The thing was, Lester was married, he was already married before he met River. She only found out once they started exchanging letters, and that was also part of the the reason why she initially kept silent about Clear. But the guilt was eating away at her, she thought Lester deserved to know about his son. She even invited him to come over and meet him, but Lester refused on the grounds of his work. "So your work is more important than your son?" Clear thought, trying to hide his anger from San. He kept reading, until the diary came to a halt. It just stopped one day for no reason, no explanation whatsoever. It was obvious what that meant, that was the day River passed away, killed at the hands of Jerred Moors. Clear didn't know how to take that all in, and he wasn't sure how this all helped him. There was a feeling eating away at him deep inside his stomach, a thought of what had actually happened, but he didn't want to believe it. Upon reaching the diary's final page, Clear noticed that the book's cover was a little strange. After examining it more closely, he found out that it actually split in two, revealing another small set of pages. That was a little suspicious, why would his mother go to the trouble of adding extra pages in the diary? Unless she meant to hide something in them. Nervous, Clear started reading those final pages, the diary's hidden parts. "I fear something is not right. Lester has been acting differently in his letters as of late. I have this feeling, this hunch that Clear's life is in danger. I can only write this down here, I can't tell anyone about this." Clear raised a brow in response, what exactly did this mean? Could his mother have suspected something was wrong? "For this reason, I have stored all of Lester's letters in a separate room, a small safe in my bedroom that follows the same principles as the basement's door. Clear, if you are the one reading this, you should go and take a look at them." Clear stopped reading completely. Could his mother possibly have foreseen all of this happening? Did she go to all the trouble of leaving him behind these traces? He had to know, he had to reach the end of this story. "Follow me San, I think we are really close to the truth." he said before heading to the bedroom once again. |
