It would seem as though small talk is not completely out of the question yet though the way the others have seemingly tensed (and the red garbed man seemingly choosing to walk from behind) gave Riven the idea that his presence and Tyki's may not be all too welcomed. He gave a short chuckle realizing how it was akin to a small child throwing a tantrum or something because they are now acting more for their self-preservation when in fact wasn't it them who drew out first assault not too long ago? He gave the ones behind him another glance, smiling at the golem and then looking at San's direction for a lingering moment before looking up ahead. "Quite the company you have. Is this all there is?" he asked Clear but he wasn't pointing out that he was. Tyki, once more, tried to imitate his master. He continued to walk and then turned his head back to glance at the golem and bore out his fangs though his smile was altered to look more like a threatening row of sharp deadly blades rather than a mega-watt smile of warmth and gentleness. In fact, he was all too eager to do it that he bumped into the gourd strapped behind Clear and he was alerted, jumping back slightly and then looking at Riven. The redhead merely chuckled at his clumsiness and Tyki lowered his head submissively (or embarrassingly) as he decided to follow closely from behind Riven instead. "Don't worry, Tyki. We're almost there," Riven said, reaching out a hand from his jacket's pocket and caressing the tiger's head as he gave Clear another glance, "Isn't that right? I'm sure Oshibana wouldn't have as much surprises as that train ride a while ago." and he turned back to Tyki before lifting his hand, "You can eat once we're there." As if throwing out half-truths and half-lies were part of his hobby, he was trying to see if any of his bluff (though really truths) were going to earn him some responses from any of the three. After all, they were all ready seemingly on the edge for some reason, especially that red garbed man who was quick to greet him earlier with some magic or the sort. "Ah, that's right! I heard gossips from the tracks earlier (the men in charge of the cargos that almost crushed me) that Oshibana has had quite a number of incidents lately. I suppose that's fair because it's the gateway town to other parts of this side of Fiore but strange how something supposedly normal would still be the word of gossip from crate lifters." Clear couldn't help but wonder what exactly San and Kuilei were talking about behind them. They were too far for him to hear but no doubt they were discussing something about the red-haired man. It felt a little reassuring having them behind him, they could watch his back for anything suspicious that happened. Clear was actually the one in the most risk at the moment, the man was practically walking next to him. If he was actually an enemy he had the perfect opportunity to attack him. Yet the man didn't try anything strange but merely glanced back at San, his tiger imitating him when he did so. When the tiger bumped his head on Clear's gourd, he heard a faint "Ouch!" coming from it. Deciding to check just in case, he opened the gourd's lid to find Suina rubbing her forehead. It didn't look like she was in much pain so Clear just patted her and closed the lid again. The tiger moved behind its master after that so Clear didn't feel the need to scold him or comment on the event. He turned his head forward and instead switched his gaze to the town they were ever approaching. The tense atmosphere made the walk feel like it took ages when they had actually only been walking for a few minutes. "Incidents? What kind of incidents?" Clear asked the man. He was completely puzzled as to what he might have meant by that. The events surrounding his mother's grave and everything to do with Jerred were something only he and San knew. It was strange to believe that there were rumors floating about them when they had only been to the town for one hour at best before leaving without causing any trouble. And Clear didn't hear about anything out of the ordinary happening in Oshibana, nor did he see anything when they were there earlier. So he was genuinely surprised when the man mentioned that. It was most likely something completely unrelated to them, unless the red hair was trying to imply something. Was he trying to judge them based on their reactions? Clear had tried the same earlier, and pretty much failed, when he decided to just walk away from the man and ignore him for the time. So him using a similar trick to get information was not that unlikely. But if that was his plan he was not in luck, Clear knew better than to reveal their secrets from a simple question like that. He could play dumb for however much he needed to, the man was getting nothing out of him. The town was growing closer to them with every second that passed, with every step they took. It gave off a rather ominous feeling, walking on foot to a destination made the journey feel a lot more serious than it actually was. Now don't get me wrong, Clear's journey was currently an incredibly important one, that much hadn't changed since the beginning. But things had become more difficult and they had to go through all that trouble to get to a place it would normally take them only a few more minutes by train. This made the struggle feel all the more daunting, like they were walking to the top of a high mountain trying to find something there. And Oshibana currently felt like an unreachable place, with hurdles they had to cross to safely get to it. "Why does this have to be so difficult? Who are you and what do you want from us?" Clear thought while glancing over to the red haired man. He was one step away from deciding to just attack him and be over with it, but he knew such reckless actions were not going to end well for them. He was simply tense from the whole situation and could not think perfectly. |

"...Master San, I still think the blue tiger thing is trying to kill me first," Kuilei quietly warned, when he saw them turn back. "For that matter of fact, I think the red-hair man is too." He turned his head to look at his master; San was not looking back. No, the undead mage's eyes were very intently locked on to the people in front of him, gazing at Clear, the red-haired man, and the tiger with such intensity that Kuilei began wondering if his spectacles were actually self-imposed barriers against some sort of ocular magic San might have possessed; obviously, untrue, but still. San was focused upon them like a chessmaster in his craft. "Uhhh, Master San? Are you alright? You look a bit, well, out of it - actually, you look like you're trying to kill them by burning a hole through the back of their heads with your eyes, but I don't think that's an option. Master San?" When San finally did speak, it was still in a whisper, deadly serious. "They are clever ones, they are. I am looking even now, and my guess is as thus - they are biding their time. Whatever situation we and they are in, they do not currently have the upper hand, so naturally theirs is a delay tactic until they can regain it. Perhaps...perhaps they already have more people awaiting within the town, or near the borders of it. In such a case, they would continue to go with us, until we unwittingly arrive and walk straight into a trap, in which case their current location would allow one of the two of us between Clear and I to be struck down, and the other of course would have to turn around, creating an opening..." His head bent downwards slightly, his mind considering more things. "In all truth, despite the current danger it would be best if we tried to take them out now." "But those are dangerous words, Master San- and look, we're already seeing Oshibana in sight over there!" Kuilei replied quietly. "Would that mean that they're already at an advantage?" San looked and saw it too - the town, at a distance away. "May have to change my options," he muttered unhappily to himself. "Perhaps best to simply find a way to escape from this man. He is most likely a beast tamer of sorts, which means his reliance is on the tiger - of course, it would be a matter of knocking out the beast's senses." Kuilei scratched his head. "And how will we do that, Master San?" "I may have someone who can do something about that..." |

Riven was a little short of disappointment when the other had merely asked what kind of incidents he was referring to. Of course, just a little short because he knew if the other had things hidden somewhere that he wouldn't normally just spout about it without care. After all, he didn't look like the type to be a talker, nor Riven for that matter and he was already crossing the boundaries because he wasn't acting to his part since he was never a talker. He sighed inwardly and looked about him for a good long moment at the other's response before he gave his own, "Oh nothing. Just an increase of theft and smuggling and illegal possessions of lacryma weapons. Nothing out of the ordinary…" he trailed off before a memory of a distant gossip of the cargo lifters came back and he added, "Save for the fact that some of the owners of such illegally possessed lacryma weapons had seem to have forgotten the manner of exchange from about half a decade ago. Like a memory that was forcefully erased to make sure they wouldn't get caught. Of course, because of that they were also stupid enough to leave trails behind and when a few of the inquisitors asked around, they found their transaction journal and in it was a note from five years ago about hiring a mage to wipe their memories for security purposes." He let the thought linger a bit more before he chuckled lightly and looked back at Clear with a glint of mischief in his eyes and said, "Too bad they also forgot the part about destroying evidence such as the transaction journal because of that memory wipe or whatever. And that's why I'm heading for Oshibana Town. After all, I may want to talk to this memory wiping mage." For him to disclose a bit of his intention would be characteristically out of character but for the moment he didn't really care. If the other knew anything about the matter then it would be detrimental for his own search. But then Tyki nudged him from behind with a concerned face <You want to forget about me?> he asked, almost crying. Riven smiled gently to the tiger, raising a hand to the head and patting it, "Don't worry. It's not like I'm interested to wipe MY memory. Just that it seems a bit odd and quite powerful for a vagabond to possess." |

Clear listened to the man as he talked about the incidents he mentioned. So nothing except for some increase in criminal activity? That was nothing to be surprised about, Oshibana was not known for being the most peaceful town around Fiore. Petty crimes like that happened all the time. Yet when the man mentioned something about a person deleting memories, Clear couldn't help but flinch. Could this really be such a coincidence that both parties be looking for something similar? Or was the man trying to hint at something, perhaps trying to provoke Clear or pique his interest. "Heeeh, is that so? A mage with the power to wipe people's memories? Sounds like an incredibly powerful ability. I've never heard of a person possessing such an ability, but then again, I don't think I would normally be able to. If what you say is true, he could wipe the memories of the people that learn about him to cover his tracks." Clear said casually, trying to hide his curiosity and surprise. "I'll just keep acting ignorant... and is hat man talking to his tiger? Weirdo." Clear thought. The possibility that the man could somehow communicate with his tiger didn't escape Clear, but it was strange to consider that a man with such proficiency in fire magic also possessed some kind of animal communication magic. With this and that, the odd group finally arrived at Oshibana. The layout of the town was such that the train station was the first place they encountered. They were traveling along the train's lines, after all. Clear thought it best to observe the condition the station was in without actually disclosing any information about what had happened. He was planning to act like a completely unrelated person to the incident. So Clear entered the station with the rest in tow and simple glanced around while they walked through it. As expected, things were in a state of uproar. The disappearance of an entire wagon didn't go unnoticed and the station was still looking into the incident. Funny thing was, the entire station currently had only two people running around and trying to fix things. That explained why there was no search party coming for them. There were simply no people around to handle the job. Looking inside the train, Clear could see the irritated looks on most people's faces from having to wait while the issue was resolved. Poor guys, they had to deal with the damages caused by a random group of mages fighting on top of a train wagon for no actual reason. Clear had no intentions of starting anything in the station, or the entire town for that matter. His plan for now was to quietly head to his old house and look around for the clues he needed. Although he was still not completely sure what it was he was looking for, he was sure that whatever it was, he would tell. Taking into account his hazy memories of his past and how little he knew about his mother, it had to be some kind of text. If said evidence was in the form of an item that held some sort of significance, he wouldn't be able to tell anyway. Suppose he found a watch that used to belong to the culprit, he wouldn't know that. So it had to be some form of text or really obvious clue. Thinking about all of that, Clear paused for a moment and took a look around him. How many years had it been since he last stepped foot inside that house? Ten? Fifteen? He honestly could not remember the details. So it took him a bit to find the road they needed to take to get there. He pointed at their destination to Sand and Kuilei and then entered the street towards the place that would most likely solve all of their questions. |

By this point, San and Kuilei had engaged in so much conversation and were far away enough that the both of them were entirely unengaged in the conversation between Clear and the red-haired one; listening in, they couldn't quite make sense of it either. "Master San, what are they talking about? I hear something about...illegal something, inquisitors, and vagabonds?" The golem asked San, who grunted in displeasure. "Half a mind of mine believes you are speaking utter rubbish, Kuilei, but if that red-haired one just called me a vagabond I will dispose of him and his tie-dyed pet at once." Someone was obviously still unhappy about the lack of action done about the intruders; Kuilei took a careful mental note not to mention anything negative to San for the next several moments. Following Clear, San looked around at the trouble they had inadvertedly caused, and his mood seemed to worsen slightly more; "Had I what I could do forty years ago, I would put an end to this debauchery of an intrusion in our quest," he muttered, along with several other things that do not deserve being mentioned in any PG-13 forum. Kuilei was frankly disturbed, and tried to calm the undead mage down. "Master San," he said, "What sort of an item or treasure are we to find at Clear's abandoned home?" San shook his head, keeping his eyes on the tiger and his master even closer now that they were in the town. "Perhaps nothing; the house could have already been burnt down by this time. Perhaps a trap; that is my own guess, that there are those lying in wait, and that Clear, and by extension you and I, are soon to have a hell of a time explaining to Master Vile why we were taken in by Fiorean Knights." That didn't help his mood at all. "I think Clear's pointing out the place he's looking for is over there," Kuilei eagerly informed San when he caught sight of the water mage's arm. "What should we do?" San's eyes did not waver, and his voice was deathly calm as he commanded. "If any trouble goes down, the moment it goes down...Kuilei, you are to take down that blue beast. It matters not to me if you have to roll on him and pin him down by means of sitting, render him useless. I will attempt to do the same to the red-haired one. In that means, if Clear is caught in a trap - and being what distance he is from us right now, it is possible that it happens - we will have a bargaining tool." His words sounded unusually extra pessimistic, but preparing for the worst was a natural trait of his by now, and so Kuilei nodded and rose his arms ever so slightly as they walked closer to the house, ready to- well, restrain something. |

Riven noted Clear's rather cautious stance but he retained his smile and kept his walking pace. They passed the station, Riven giving the employees a short glance - the place was busy as others were scrambling to look for the missing coach and others were trying to calm down the rest of the passengers. He gave Tyki a quick glance, giving him a smirk to which the tiger quickly squinted his eyes and his ears flapped down as if in shame. "Well, Oshibana hasn't changed one bit," Riven said, patting Tyki again to give the tiger back his usual confidence as they walked past the station. From there, Riven could simply decide to move away from the group and do his own thing, but there was something about Clear and San and most especially about the golem that he could not simply forget or pass a blind eye. Especially when the latter seemed outright aggressive against him. "All right, now that I've seen Oshibana for myself, I can say that nothing much special has stood out to catch my attention." Riven declared after a few steps into the town road before turning back to look at Clear, "Which means I might as well stick around with your group. After all, I can't deny that of all the things that has happened this day, the most fun and exciting was when I seemed to have met you guys." Tyki nodded his head in approval before leaning in close to Clear and licking his hand as if to show that he was being a good cat. But master and pet quickly turned to flash equally mischievous smiles back to the golem before looking away. If there was anything that they loved to play, it was teasing the other half of the party that had the gall to go up against them in the first place. "Tyki, don't go fooling around just yet, all right?" Riven added when he saw Tyki slowly move away from the group and smelling along the shop windows along the road. Tyki gave Riven a long look without moving and then pointed towards the glass. Riven sighed and went over to look and saw that it was a butcher's shop. "How quaint." he uttered before patting Tyki on the head and moving back to follow Clear, "Later, Tyki. Later. Cooked steak is better. Rare, maybe." Tyki gave a soft gnarl and then followed behind Riven. "I wonder if there's a live target willing to become prime steak." |

Clear stopped the moment he heard the man's words. So he was planning on following them the entire way? While Clear didn't really mind the company, and his pet tiger was also acting quite friendly now, he couldn't really afford to have the man around. Partly because it was dangerous for him, partly because he didn't want a random stranger to learn of the things they were about to investigate. And there was also a small part that was kind of annoyed by him, although Clear couldn't exactly tell why. He was strangely reminded of someone when he conversed with this man, who that was he was still unsure of. He had to find a way to get rid of him in a way that didn't come off as too suspicious or rude. "Let me be clear about this, our paths split here. You are free to go anywhere in Oshibana you wish, I don't possess any authority to stop you, but you may not follow us any longer. We have some private matters to attend to, ones an outsider such as you has no business with. Now, farewell." Clear told the red-haired man before walking off from him. Well, he was free to follow them, but he shouldn't expect to be allowed inside Clear's house. Motioning for San and Kuilei to follow him, Clear kept walking towards his house. He was pretty certain the two of them were rather happy that he sent the tiger and its master away, they never liked the idea of him tagging along in the first place. In fact, Clear could hear parts of their whispering, and they didn't sound one bit happy about it. Hopefully, they would lighten up a bit now. Now that the distraction that was the red-haired man was gone, Clear approached San to talk over the details of what they were to do next. "All right, so, let's go over what we're going to do next just to make sure. You said you were going to send one of your summons in the house beforehand to make sure there won't be any traps there. Just pick a sensible one, alright? The last thing I want is one of your crazy summons wrecking the house. It doesn't even belong to me, I think the person that used to rent it to my mother has now passed away. Either way, we're pretty much trespassing there, though I'm pretty sure nobody lives in it." Clear whispered to San, making sure that nobody else could hear in on their conversation, no matter how close to them they walked. The road to Clear's old house was a normal one, a quiet street of Oshibana. Yet, the distance they had to cover to get to it was surprisingly short, perhaps Clear's mother picked that house close to the station for a reason? That didn't matter at the time, getting to the house and investigating it were much more pressing matters. The old building soon came into view, Clear was surprised it was still standing after all those years. It was pretty rundown, its walls were full of cracks and it looked ready to collapse. Okay, that was an overstatement, it wasn't in that bad a condition, but it was definitely not a proper dwelling for anyone to reside in. "Well, this is it. I don't know what you were expecting, but as you can see my old house is not in good shape. So, shall we get moving?" Clear told San while moving closer to the entrance. He was planning to wait for San to finish checking up on traps, if only to let him satisfy his inner need to be extra careful. He was being overly cautious this entire time, they had some time before people started coming after them. But that was like San, always being a pessimist about things. Being dead probably did that to people. |

So of course San and Kuilei followed Clear, and of course Clear's considerations were correct; the look that the man and tiger had given Kuilei moments ago practically confirmed their intent in the golem's - and by extension San's - mind, and they were just so close to launching an outright offense that would prove catastrophic to their mission. Clear's actions had, for the moment, soothed the emotions with the two, and San was quick to regain composure. "I have a sensible one. Perhaps, three. There is one I would trust for something like this, seeing as he is not a dangerous person nor deranged in any sense, but if there is a trap- actually, it would be easier. He has no real defensive magic or physical skill. Perhaps easiest of all summons to kill. I would know if he was forcibly desummoned, huh." As they walked closer to the house, San clarified further. "It would be optimal if the house remained as unaffected as possible even if we do trigger something, and so I will summon him inside of the house." Once they actually got close to the house, San wasted no time proceeding with his plan. "Kuilei, stand behind me," he instructed, preparing his living shield in case of the worst possible scenario. With the wave of a hand, the undead mage shot a miniature swarm of sprites out of his sleeve, which whizzed into the house by means of the space between the door and its surrounding wall. "And now, we wait," San stated once they vanished from view. "By chance, exactly how large is this place supposed to be, and are there any hidden passages or areas within it?" Predicting that it would take a bit of time before the summon returned, San sat down, leaning back against the towering golem. One of his hands, though, was holding tightly onto the blade on his back, a measure of defense just in case. Inside of the house, just behind the entrance, the sprites rearranged themselves before condensing to form a figure - yup, an old man, armed with a giant brush. San had informed his sprites on the situation, and they in turn him, so once he appeared the old man immediately started looking through the house, using the tip of his brush to poke anything suspicious - the door handles, carpets, drawers, windows and lights, anything that might have had some sort of mechanism attached, or where someone could be hiding. "Decrepit, is this house," he muttered to himself, as he looked through what was once a properly functioning kitchen. "I would clean all of this through and through, if I could..." The stairs definitely creaked. Even San could hear it. |

Despite the refusal, Riven and Tyki proceeded. They weren't that easy to get rid of especially when both were somehow bored for the last few days and the earlier sudden encounter (fight with a strange ink person included) had suddenly livened their lives. Not to mention that the group they were following was somehow interesting and funny (especially the rock and the red garbed man who wouldn't stop looking at them with deathly glares) that at times Riven was forced to wonder if the old man had issues and was simply bad with communicating it. Tyki leaned his head to Riven's hand and gave a low pitched mew (tiger equivalent though) and made the flame mage smile. It was always easy to be drawn into other people's atmosphere - something that Riven was both good and bad with - so Tyki's main job was always to make sure that Riven kept to himself and not be stuck with another's persona. An empath to the extreme? In any case, they reached the destination despite the strong warnings from Clear not to follow and soon they found a house. It was rather ordinary looking and Riven couldn't understand what was so special about it. Leaning in just a bit, both master and tiger were eavesdropping on the not-so-hushed voices of the two (Clear and San) about their situation. Something about traps, summons, danger and the sort. It was clear that entry without permission of precaution was not the best idea but Tyki was getting impatient. Riven had to push the tiger down and sit on his lying form just to make sure his pet would not decide to break the harmony between the other people and go crashing into the house without warning. <But!> Tyki tried to plea. "No buts." Riven replied with a tap on the tiger's forehead. Just then, the two could feel a presence within the house. Must be that summon that the red garbed guy earlier was talking about. Riven was well prepared to ignore it but Tyki picked up something else. He instantly overpowered Riven (since he pretty much weight about 300 kg and for a man sitting on top of him just to put him in place was never going to work) and ran to the back of the house. Riven looked on as he dusted dirt off from his bum while giving the rest of the party an innocent look. "He's hungry." he could only say. And thus, Tyki rounded the house and neared the back door entrance. It wasn't exactly food that he was smelling, something more vile, more evil, more dangerous. That or perhaps the new summon was rather interesting and that he wanted to see it. Of course, there was a reminder of Riven's earlier remark of not to cause trouble lingering in his mind and Tyki was left waiting just outside the backdoor like a good cat, albeit slightly annoyed at the fact that he could not go against his master's words. <But I'm hungry...> he thought.
