Location of Lore: Mt. Hakobe Story/Myth/Legend: The Temptation Path and the Abandoned Skaa Hakobe Mountain stands tall amongst most of the mountain range, its body covered by snow, bitter snowstorms battering all those who dare walk it. Yet this is not the only danger that faces the weary traveller. Amongst the wild animals, the steep cliffs and deadly falls there is another threat, one that those who look for it can never find. Those who are lost and hopeless however seem to have better luck in finding it but that is not a good thing. Almost like a predator this legend seems to favour the weak. This legend has been told over hundreds of year and like all other legends the origin is unknown along with the proof of this path. The Abandoned path is said to be kept between two shear cliff faces. Out of the wind and snow it is said to have a warm feel about it, strange for a trail on this mountain. This two hundred metre stretch of rocky terrain is around thirty metres wide, the jagged cliff faces towering either side. Strangely only one part of this path bathed in the sun, and ever more strange is the fact that this does not fade. Even with the most fierce storm raging overhead the sun pierces through, illuminating the path through the rocky valley. Walk along this sun soaked path and feel a warmth so foreign to the mountains. As if all your hope is reignited and your will to go on refuelled. As a marker to the boundary of the path pale white flowers grow beautifully either side of it. And what is at the end of this path, well its what you most want from your journey. Many people see different things at the end of this path, most just home, or at least the way home to be more exact. Others are merely shown gold, jewels and other treasures they have braved the mountain to find. Yes, this sun lit path seems to be a wonderful find, to see what you wish for most at the end of it, or at least a way to get it. However many seem not to reach the end. The true nature of this myth is a dark one, one which haunts the surrounding area's of Hakobe and the towering mountain itself. For if one of the travellers, whether in a group or by themselves stray from the path even once. If even their toes touch the cold, dark shaded boundaries of the sun lit path they are lost forever. And many would ask why one would walk from the warm light path of Hakobe. Those that would answer if they could would describe to people the torturous images they are submitted to. Horrid screams of loved ones, images of them being harmed or even killed. Some of those to reach the end utter words of the bodies they see, only to discover that the ones they thought were dead are perfectly fine. For those without loved ones to tie them down, they are simply tempted by their greatest sin. Whether it be a seductive woman for those with lust, or a pile of money for those with greed. Maybe the traveller's bitter rival for some one so wrathful or something as simple as a chair for the sloth of the group. Whatever tempts them from the path tempts them from life. Stepping over the white flower line they are crippled by a sinister power. Dark shadows shift and shriek as they accumulate round their new companion. Slowly consuming these unfortunate explorers with darkness they live long enough to see those who were once their travelling comrades strive on for the end of the path, simply forgetting or ignoring their friend who can only scream as shout as his body is consumed by hate, anger and pain. However that is not where the legend stops. Roaming the sides of the Mt. Hakobe is said to be a band of menacing looking creatures. Wrapped in dark cloth they have ice cold eyes. What skin is shown is simply as white as the purest snow flake. These are not friendly beasts, in human humanoids who's sole purpose is to prey on those that scale the mountain range. It has only been recently that the rumours of these two legends being linked arose. These savages nick named the Skaa by surrounding villages and other travellers are said to be those who have strayed from the path, and watched their comrades leave. If their hatred and anger was strong enough they were reborn into these beasts, living their days in the bitter cold bodies they were abandoned in. Said to be all connected they are a pack of animals that only masquerade as humans. These two stories have become one, their origins unknown, no evidence found other than the odd sighting of Skaa, more commonly the bodies left behind by their horrific attacks. However these stories have the townspeople of fiore chilled to the bone, a great reminder not to go up mount Hakobe alone, and more importantly do not be tempted or tricked by those that may not be real. |
