Did it work like a charm? He snickered when Clear gave in and they all went marching towards the nearest restaurant. Then again, it wasn’t like it was merely a ploy since he was truly hungry. If Kaelian could really explain what the entire phenomenon was all about, he would probably say that using his magic always burnt his energy, his reserves, his… so-called hibernation rations and had never really thought much onto why he eats so much and yet still remain so lean, though muscle-toned and tall, but still far from being a bulk of a hulk. Then again, if he could be as cute as Kuilei was, he really had nothing much against big and muscular, though perhaps the walking rock was better since he could easily reshift himself to the appropriate size he wanted, while real fat would need at least a week’s workout, or Kaelian’s strange metabolism.

“Yosh! I want… I want…” his earlier enthusiasm quickly took a plunge as he saw the menu and could not really pick out what he wanted. He looked at Clear and then at San and then back to the menu and scratched his chin while doing so. “Fine, I’ll just have some pancakes and a tall glass of milkshake.” He said, pushing the menu away from him, already waiting for a tease or two from the two. Indeed, he could have ordered something more… adult-like? But no, he had to order pancakes and milkshake. Perhaps his earlier experience at the guildhall with alcohol had gotten to him and he was now wary about it. And he looked at Kuilei with a pitying look before asking, “Why? Can’t you eat at all? I mean, sure, you’re a rock so does that mean you really don’t… you know… munch and swallow?”

And when their orders would be taken, Kaelian took the moment ask further, “So, Clear, where’s your house? Oh right, about that…” he suddenly sat upright and leaned in close, feeling slightly embarrassed by what he was about to ask, “Uh… are we gonna take long? I mean… I don’t think I can book an inn…” He drawled the last words and if the fact that he hitched hike a train and ordered the less expensive of the menu could already show it, then it should already be fact that Kaelian had finished up his week’s allowance loaned from the guild and perhaps from his last mission that he was now under the mercy of Clear and San for sustenance. “Oh but I do have something set aside for Artisan if I can go to that forge. Don’t worry. I often choose to rather starve than have any of my items be a little less perfect.” He grinned.

Clear couldn't help but laugh in his mind at how childlike and innocent Kaelian was at times. Perhaps he had misunderstood him, perhaps his first impression was a bad one, but the water mage could no longer find himself angry at him. "Don't worry, we won't be staying for longer than a day. I was originally planning to return within the day anyway. I already told you, there's not that much to do here, I'm merely visiting for old times' sake. I haven't been here for over six years, I figured it was about time I returned." Clear replied to Kaelian. He was planning to tell them about the actual reason they were here, but he didn't want to spoil their meal with stories of his childhood. Telling them about his mother's death and how he spent the rest of his days was not exactly a nice topic to discuss over lunch. Their food arrived shortly, and Clear wasted no time with his own. For a man of his size he was a surprisingly fast eater, people were telling him that all the time. Suina grabbed the bottle of water ordered specifically for her and started gulping it down thirstily. Content with the day's food, she retreated into Clear's gourd to take a nap, just like a kid.

Finishing his meal with rather high speed, Clear turned to his group. "Okay, so here's the plan. After this, we will go to the forge I was talking about earlier. The blacksmith there is an old acquaintance of mine and so I want to go and say hello to him. And there are also a few things I want to ask him. My memory's a little fuzzy on some things." Truly, the original reason Clear was visiting this town again was to pay his respects to his mother's grave, something he regretted not doing for the past six years. But there were some things he had forgotten about her, some things he hoped the blacksmith that took care of him after that would know. "And about the money, the old man might give you a discount if he sees you're with me, although I wouldn't count on it. We weren't best friends or anything, I simply worked for him. Heck, he might not even remember me after all these years, in which case you're on your own. But don't worry, as far as I remember his prices were reasonable. Even you still don't have enough money you could work for it." Clear stated while laughing slightly at his last sentence. Truthfully, the blacksmith never gave anything for free, not even to a kid.

After the group had all finished their food, with the exception of San and Kuilei who had gotten nothing, they paid their bill, much to Kaelian's dismay Clear assumed, and they left the restaurant, much to the other customers' relief Clear assumed. They were still getting weird glances from the people on the street, but everyone was too scared to do anything. Clear could also feel the guards' gazes on them, but they did nothing as long as the group remained quiet. Thankfully the walk through the streets was uneventful and they soon reached the forge Clear was talking about earlier. He had a lot of memories in that place, but not good ones. The only thing he could remember from that place was working and the old man yelling at him whenever he did something wrong. Shrugging the annoying memories off, Clear took a step towards the forge. "This is the place, we're going in now." he urged the rest to follow. At least this time Kuilei wouldn't have to change his shape as the forge's entrance was huge, probably meant for large pieces of metal to enter and exit.

"Chew? I-I can chew and swallow if I have to," Kuilei responded to Kaelian, caught unaware by the question. "Just...not the way you people eat." He looked, as the waiter's return with the order; San almost instantly downed all he had ordered for himself, handing a jug - yes, a jug - of water to Kuilei. Evidently, someone working in the kitchen was wise enough to distrust golems handling glass cups. Kuilei, taking it eagerly, drank all of the water within it before puting the emptied jug on the table; a moment later, his eyes flashed a bright blue color, as if some sort of magic-related reaction was going on inside of him.

San, who had already finished his order, was counting out the amount of currency he would have to pay; placing the Jewels on the table, he leaned back into his seat. "Prepared to move when you are," the undead mage said, watching his golems eyes suddenly begin flashing intermittently, like some defective piece of lighting lacrima. "Kuilei's insides contain nothing save pure magic energy of a form, pulling him together," San explained, "And thus, he has no need for sustenance in the form of food, drink or sleep. He thrives on ambient magical energy, or so I believe." He grunted, shifting in his seat. "I have no intention of taking him to Chrysanthemum to prove it."

As the group went on their way to the forge, with Kuilei trudging behind San, the old mage only needed to take a glance at the building before a random thought entered his mind. "Kuilei," he whispered, as they began walking in. "Yes, Master San?" The golem asked, though his eyes were elsewhere, and San knew it. "The stones in here. Do not use them," San quietly commanded, with a knowing tone. His words seemed to disappoint the golem, who bowed his head in deference. "But I was looking forward to seeing the shapes and types of stones they had in here," The golem quietly confided in return, to which San shook his head. "The last thing we need is for you to have obsidian limbs."

"Obsidian? Is it sharp? I like sharp stones-" "Do not. Use. The stones. In. This. Forge."

Kaelian smiled childishly in response when Clear appeared well interested into the idea of showing them around the forge. Then again, he did make sure not to appear overly eager despite the obvious stupid grin on his face and his slight teasing of Kuilei with San being the mean father that he was. Now that he got a good look at the both, they really did look like a good father and son combination. He laughed at the thought and if ever the others would turn to look at him and wonder why the sudden outburst of laughter, he would merely reply, “I can laugh almost with absolutely no reason at all. And that’s my gift.” He said, though it may as well be that he said that he was right down crazy and that his last bit of sane brain cell may have died.

After the snacks, to which he slightly felt a little embarrassed, they went to the forge and from the front it was already amazing, imposing even. The stones used to build the house was extraordinary and from the looks of it, bits and pieces of metal were inserted along the wall, part for decoration like the owner of the house, the master blacksmith must be an artist of his own right, and partly for the fact that it made a foundation much stronger if multiple minerals were to be found and co-existed. Inside was a much more familiar place, Kaelian having visited numerous forges before for his sword until the weapon had finally reached its mature state and gotten stronger. The fire by the hearth that can reach to thousands of degrees for the melting of steel, the anvils and other hard surfaces with smooth textures for shaping, the polishing rocks of various degree and rarity and color on display, the hammers of various sizes and shape, and the old man with a rather large body and a face that screamed authority stood by the center as if expecting them.

Or perhaps, as Kaelian would turn, it was Kuilei’s presence that drawn the master of the forge shop to their group. Nevertheless, Kaelian quickly took to his feet and entered the shop, giving the blacksmith a bow of respect, something that reminded the others of how he once suddenly acted so maturely and respectful when he bowed to them the same way during that time in their first encounter when intentions were finally revealed. Nevertheless, the sun mage bowed and then proceeded inside to gawk at the steel collection and WIP swords by the rack. Pretty much like a child as he squatted before the rack and looked back at the reflection against the blade and even dared to touch it while glancing back to make sure no one would see him to do.

(OOC: sorry vilis, a lot happened today and had to help my friend with the exam so I got this done a little late.)

Entering the ever familiar forge, Clear didn't waste any time looking around. The place was, after all, the exact same as he remembered. Standing in the middle of it was the old man, master of the forge and the man Clear was here to say. Glancing over at the group, it was apparent that his attention was first drawn by Kuilei, the biggest of the five. He then looked over each and every one of them with an inquisitive state which finally stopped at Clear. Sizing him up a bit, his expression turned a little softer upon recognizing the kid. "Well would you look at that, if it isn't little Clear Crystal. I wouldn't have recognized you if it weren't for that black cloak you always wear. What brings you to my forge? I haven't seen you for what, eight years?" the man said while approaching Clear and shaking hands with him. "Six years to be exact. I've come back for a few personal matters and to ask you a question. But it's also good to see you again. These are people from my guild, the one with the brown hair is Kaelian, the one with the grey hair is San. That golem's name is Kuilei and this little one is Suina. Kaelian also has something he would like you to take a look at." Clear introduced his group with an ever serious expression. The old man also realized that it was a matter of great importance, at least for Clear, so his expression turned serious as well. "Why don't you all have a seat in the next room? It will be easier to talk there than next to the furnace. I will take a look at whatever it is you have in a while young man." the blacksmith told them and beckoned them to follow him into a door leading to a separate room. Clear followed him and also nodded for the rest to come along. He had no secrets to hide from them.

Sitting down at the break room, a comfortable room with no sign of weapons, metal or fire. "Okay lad, what is this question you've been talking about so far? It has to be something important if you returned here after all these years." the old man asked Clear. "It might not seem like something really important at first, it might not even sound like a sane question at first, but please hear me out. First of all, I am pretty sure you were acquainted with my mother. I remember you talking to her a couple of times on the street. How did my mother die?" Clear asked, straight to the point. The old man raised his hand to his chin and gave the matter a little thought before answering. "I did know your mother lad, but nothing more than her being the owner of the town's bookstore. We've talked a couple of times, but it was never anything really serious. And if I recall correctly, your mother died of an illness, didn't she? Shouldn't you know that best of all?" "Yes, that's the whole point. I should know that better than anyone yet for some reason it doesn't feel right. I feel like I'm forgetting something important, along with another major thing. What was my mother's name?" This time, the old man looked more surprised by the question, like it was utterly ridiculous. "What's wrong with you kid, forgetting your own mother's name? Of course I know it, her name was... you know it was that... Well, it would seem I have forgotten her name after all these years as well." Clear frowned, as if the answer was not to his liking. "Just as I suspected." he thought.

San did give Kaelian a strange look, as did Kuilei. "I wouldn't be so sure that that's a gift," the undead mage grunted, while Kuilei merely looked at the solar mage with a confused expression. "To be able to laugh without cause is a gift?" he asked, though San swiftly shut him down. "Not for you, it will not be. Do not learn so." The golem nodded, though his expression showed that he didn't quite understand it all. "As you wish, Master San." Upon entry of the blacksmith, both San and Kuilei stared at him instead, one trying to figure out how old he was, the other wondering if he could ask him for some of his spare stones to utilize.

It would be Clear who gained his attention though, and as Clear introduced his group to the man San nodded, and Kuilei even bowed his head, when they were individually called by Clear. When they entered the break room, San sat down, while Kuilei looked around dejectedly; the break room lacked any item the golem could find to be of interest. Leaving the golem to his own devices, San sat back in his chair, motionless like a dead man - in actuality, though, he was listening very intently. If his premonitions were correct, this would be the first time he would hear about the past of another member, and, what with his personality, this was something the old man was actually interested in.

Child of a local bookstore owner, right here in Oshibana Town, San mentally recorded. Mother died of medical reasons; can't remember her name... He was a guardian, not a detective; San merely put these thoughts into his memory, without considering the oddities. Well, at least, until he noticed that Kuilei was attempting to make his way back into the main area of the forge. Without a second thought, San began to summon someone in the other room, to prevent the golem from carrying out his desired tasks; no one in the current room would be able to tell, due to his means of summoning, but San couldn't help but wonder how these folks would treat intruders.

As Kuilei entered the other room, he was faced with another person in the forge - A man of decent height, in scarlet clothing. "Ravager, what are you doing here?" the golem quietly whispered, to which the figure wildly cackled. "Wouldn't you like to know?" the man said. He, unfortunately, wasn't aware of his volume, and meanwhile back in the break room San inwardly groaned. Idiots...

Kaelian managed to steal a touch on the sword’s blade with a mischievous smile before instantly standing to face the others. Apparently, the blacksmith’s voice that erupted into the room had startled him and he was glad it wasn’t enough for him to topple the rack of WIP swords else he would have to be punished for doing something so naïve. And the blacksmith eventually told them to follow close and to the next room where they could talk more peacefully and probably more seriously. It was at that point that he figured that whatever was about to be discussed would be important, something that even brought Clear traveling all the way to Oshibana town. “Interesting.” He said as he followed quickly.

Entering the other room, they were given places to sit and Kaelian took a chair next to San. Listening to the blacksmith’s tale, he was slowly forming an imaginary diary of when Clear was younger, imagining the other as a kid, probably with a similar smug and bleak atmosphere about him though Suina and the gourd would have been erased from the picture since they would not yet be part of his life. And the little drawing of Clear was walking along the sketchbook’s surface where the intricately detailed Oshibana was sketched to perfection and in one bookstore, Clear’s mother would be attending to the sales. “A bookstore? Can we go there too?” he suddenly interrupted, “I hope they have anthologies or something.” He uttered before suddenly realizing his unnecessary comment and slumped back on the seat to listen to the rest of the story.

But at the end of the blacksmith’s story, Kaelian found it weird. “Funny how you would forget someone you claim to have spoken for and seemingly noteworthy as the town’s bookstore owner,” he said almost as if no one in the room wanted to bring up the obvious though his tone was rather cold as his eyes were piercingly sharp than usual, like knives cutting at the throat of the other. For some reason, it had bothered him. “People don’t just forget, especially for someone who lives as a blacksmith. After all, there are numerous things that cannot be forgotten, such as the right temperature, the right steel, the right material, the right edge, the right moment to strike and temper the iron, the right hammer and size of the blade, the right curve, the very art of creating swords and other equipment. That is to say that there’s so much activity going on in your mind that your brain has been active since you started your career as a blacksmith that forgetting should not have been an issue. After all, being an artisan, an artist of the fire and steel, you should be quick and watchful for details that they easily are engrained in the mind. A simple name should not have escaped your memory, unless you’re feigning something.”

And it would be too late before Kaelian could recognize he was talking in an almost accusatory tone. When he did ended his statement, he found himself looking at the others before standing up and bowing in apology, “Oh, sorry. I let my mind did the talking without prior permission. I do that too often, another gift.” He said with a sly smile before sitting back down.

Clear listened to Kaelian's rambling and agreed with him in his mind. That was exactly the reason why he asked the old man this question and not someone else in the town who probably knew his mother more. If even he couldn't remember her name, then something was going on. "It's all right Kaelian, you are completely correct in what you have said. It's true that a blacksmith wouldn't easily forget something like a name, but aren't you also forgetting something? Me, her own son, has also forgotten her name. Isn't that the part that is the strangest? That's the whole thing that baffles me, one does not simply forget his mother's name. And I have a hunch that no matter who we ask they won't know her name. There is something weird going on here and I intend to find out what. Thank you for your time old man, unfortunately you could not help me with this question of mine. I will now head to the only place I think is left; her grave. If her name isn't engraved there, the matter calls for further investigation. Come on, let's go." Clear motioned for the others to follow him. "Good luck with that kid, but I hope you're not getting yourself into something you can't handle." the blacksmith said as a farewell.

Returning to the previous room, Clear spotted a man talking to Kuilei. He wondered who he might be, but it didn't really matter to him at that point, he barely even registered the man's presence there. His brain was deep in thought about the possibilities of this incident. How could everyone just forget her? Clear hadn't actually checked with other people to confirm this, but his theory was that if he couldn't remember her, there was probably nobody that could. "Come on Kuilei, we're going. Don't break anything." Clear said to the golem as he saw him eying some of the stones in the forge. "Perhaps I should stop over by my old house first... No, graves have people's names engraved on them, if I can find her name I have this feeling I will learn something important. And illness, was it really like that?" Clear kept thinking as he exited the forge and moved back into the practically empty streets of Oshibana. It was quite a long walk to the cemetery as it was located outside the town's walls, so they should have some time to talk with each other if they had any questions. Frankly, Clear would be curious about such a situation.

I would duly point out that the reverse could be true: a blacksmith's focus is on blacksmithing expertise, not name memorization. He who masters the forge forge not necessarily master his memories, or so San thought in the middle of Kaelian's rambling. He didn't say it though - after all, he had really nothing to input - save a quiet muttering. "Not a gift. Sign of cultivation lacking," he merely stated under his breath, though Clear's answer surprised him. Listening to the water mage intently, the old man decided that it would be best for him not to input anything, what with his own lack of thoughts, and quietly followed Clear out.

In the main room of the forge, Kuilei and the red-adorned man were having a less-than-friendly conversation. "You are not supposed to be here. There is no purpose for you," the golem angrily stated, to which the man merely laughed; his was a wild and uncontrolled laugh, enough to raise chills in most people, the laugh of a lunatic. "You really think I shouldn't be here? No, maybe I shouldn't - but I'm here now, aren't I?" He smirked. "Besides, I was given a purpose. I'm just here to make sure you don't touch anything in this forge." To which, the golem's jaw dropped in realization and despair. "One stone." "No." "Just one." "Never."

When Clear and company exited out the break room, they'd still be talking, the golem begging the red-adorned man, who refused his every request. "He sent you, didn't he? But he wouldn't deny me this much." "Aha, but he did, and he does! Why else would I be here?" Upon Clear's command, Kuilei unhappily left the man, following behind the group; San, who was behind Clear, looked at Kuilei and the man once, but showed no sign of recognition. In fact, the man also showed no sign, and after Kuilei began moving away he merely looked at the items on the walls, alarming the blacksmith.

San walked out of the forge quietly, with a sulking golem in pursuit. Upon exiting though, his mouth finally moved. "We are now heading to a graveyard?" he asked, his voice quiet and solemn. Somewhere a distance behind them, the red-adorned man pranced - pranced - out of the forge, leaping away until he vanished behind a building.

Well done, Xie.

Listening to Clear speak instantly after him, Kaelian wondered if he was right at all. But the more the other began to explain in detail what was going, he was slowly beginning to have doubts as well. He watched the blacksmith and Clear interact for a bit, minding his own place as the two seemed to be talking with great care before the sudden revelation that perhaps no one in town could actually remember the mother’s name, let alone it would seem that Clear couldn’t as well. Then, a theory popped into the sun mage’s head but did not speak it out in fear that it would only brew trouble. Not that he has always been keen to take care of what he said and make sure that what came out from his mouth was something thought more carefully as his previous statement was just that. That or that he was experiencing another shift of personae like the usual.

They exited the room quietly and while Clear went ahead, Kaelian followed just behind San and leaned closer to whisper something that seemed to concern him about the water mage. “Hey, Old Man San, do you think… it could be possible nothing ever existed and everything was a lie?” he asked, though sounding almost as if he was only hinting what he had in mind before looking at the back of Clear as the other went out. “You know, it’s not that hard to imagine to think your entire life was a lie,” he added, thinking about his own past, “And everything could have just been implanted in our heads, which is why some people get their information less detailed than most.” He concluded with a shrug and they too existed the room and went back to the front of the shop.

Then, he saw him, a man in red with a seemingly haughty and fun personality as far as he could tell, though a part of him could tell that the golem was quickly sulking from a conversation they had a little earlier. He was about to inquire but Kuilei made the move to follow silently so Kaelian couldn’t really butt into their business. Still, he glanced at the strange man with sharp eyes and his killing intent was slowly rising on the radar but the man didn’t move, let alone remark so much about it. They exited the forge and was finally on their way when he last saw the man prancing out the forge and then disappear. Only then did it click and the information rushed into his head to ring a sound bell of realization. Kaelian eased his walk so that he would fall into pace with Kuilei and patted the golem, “You all right, Kui?” and before the golem could even think of responding, if he would, Kaelian jumped from the back and hugged the golem, though he seemed like he was now just embracing and allowing the golem to carry his not so much of a burden weight, “A hug as promised.”

And while they went along the silent road towards the cemetery, Kaelian kept out a sharp eye in case something strange would suddenly happen. He leaned closer to Kuilei’s head and whispered, “Something’s not right, Kui. Something’s wrong with the town and probably with Clear. Keep a good look out, okay? We can’t afford to let our family be endangered.” And after that, he dropped from the golem’s back and went to quicken his pace so that he would be walking to the side of San and just behind Clear and his gourd.
