Although the bed was soft and had strangely perhaps one of the most comfortable mattresses Stella had slept on in a significant amount of time the mage was resting as soundly as she had hoped, although her body seemed to be perfectly still and at peace as she lay next to Okita cuddling the man in her slumber her mind was most definitely not sharing that sense of relaxation. Stella’s mind was amiss with chaos as it swirled with images and memories that had haunted her for some time, some she thought she had managed to forget made their reappearance amidst all too familiar ones and emotions began to take a hold of her even within the realm of dreams.

The air was cold and crisp as Stella sat beneath the largest tree in the town her newly found guild was located in, fresh snow had just fallen and despite the fact that many had taken refuge indoors for night was coming and the temperature set to fall lower the mage had no intentions of moving. Her back was heated with the warmth that her jacket had managed to insulate between her body and the strong and solid trunk of the tree behind her and with gloves on her hands, long denim jeans covering her lower half topped off and sealed tightly at the ends with warm boots and scarf and beanie to complete the thermal outfit she was set to tackle the night ahead of her. Why would anyone sit outside under a tree in the middle of the town in such weather? It was simple really at least for Stella, she had made a promise and she intended to keep it to the best of her ability. Only the fundamentals such as sleeping indoors, eating, washing and doing enough work to keep herself a float financially pried the mage from her spot beneath that tree and all because she had simply made a promise almost one year ago that day. She had promised the one she loved that she would meet him under that very tree days after she herself had left her hometown of Chrysanthemum for her own safety, although he had showed and a year had passed the woman believed in him whole heartedly and honestly believed that he would show some day when he could. Promises were simply not things that she broke and he knew that, he knew how much they meant to her and therefore he would never make one that he only intended to break now would he? Of course not and with the other option meaning that he had been killed or locked up for his ‘involvement’ in things to do with her brother simply could not have been true, that left but one thing to believe in. He would come, in time he would keep his promise.

As fresh snow began to fall from the sky above her coating her with it’s gentle presence Stella looked up to see the last of the setting sun disappearing from the sky and the street lights switching themselves on for their night of work illuminating the way for those venturing the weather. He would turn up, maybe not that night and maybe not tomorrow but he would….wouldn’t he? With that question beginning to seed doubt within the mage’s mind a single tear fell from it’s trailed line down her cheek and onto the snow below melting a small path straight down to the ground beneath it, eyes closed and knees pressed against her chest as she rested her forehead atop them Stella sat waiting for him. Waiting for Okita Onizaki.

A knock at the door of the hotel room that Okita and Stella were sharing was all that was needed to launch the woman to a seated position and wake her from what had been a rather unpleasant night of memories, thoughts and worries. Immediately knowing that they had to hide Imalia and Zetsu darted under the bed where the duvet cover would keep them out of sight, their game had been interrupted but even they wouldn’t dare argue to continue it when such important things were at stake. THEY COULD LOSE THE ROOM AND FOOD IF THEY WERE CAUGHT! “Sorry to wake you, I figured you would want your clothes back as soon as possible and before breakfast”, the same friendly female voice sounded through the door and it seemed that the worker from before had been working the late night shift. “Oh, that’s alright. Just one moment”, still suffering from the effects of just being awoken rudely Stella spoke a verbal reply to the woman so she would know she was awake and spun her legs to the side of the bed in order to get up and answer the door.

Sarcasm. Because beating the shit out of people is illegal.

Upon being practically dragged to bed, it hadn't been long before the warmth of Stella's body cuddled up against his had been enough to lull his already tired self off into sleep. This, even despite the fact that a few of Stella's stray hairs managed to find themselves tickling Okita's face throughout the night. If Okita dreamed, he remembered not even a scrap of it when he awoke, but perhaps that could have been attributed to the fact that on a handful of occasions during the night, he was roused to wakefulness by Stella, who stirred restlessly and murmured intelligibly in her sleep. At one stage she was murmuring gibberish whilst turning her head from side to side in a manner that indicated strongly that she was having a nightmare. Okita made an attempt at waking her up, but she remained stubbornly in her dream world for almost a minute before she settled down and despite his own concerns, Okita settled back into sleep not long after. The rest of the night passed seamlessly and when next Okita opened his eyes, it was to find Stella getting out of bed in response to somebody at the door.

Although the temptation was to curl up asleep for a while longer in the warm spot of the bed created by both his and Stella's bodies, he knew that it was time to get up. They weren't necessarily safe here and as tempting as it would be to linger here and enjoy this peace and tranquility. Groaning softly to himself, he forced himself to sit up and squint against the morning sunlight that was streaming through the window in their room. He sat there like that while Stella answered the door, slowly mustering the motivation to complete the epic journey that was getting up and out of bed. In the end it was the sound of the door closing that served as the final catalyst necessary for Okita to leave the tender embrace of the bed and it's blankets as he looked over to see Stella with their clothes- now freshly cleaned and neatly folded (where applicable, as Stella's armor clearly wasn't the sort of thing that could be folded). "Good morning!", Okita declared cheerily as he finally set his feet on the floor and stood up out of bed. Approaching Stella with a tender smile, he took his clothes from the pile in her arms and wandered into the bathroom.

Discarding the bathrobe he'd worn to bed, Okita wasted no time in redressing himself in his typical jeans, shirt and jacket. He also donned his signature necklaces which had always been of great sentimental value to him before but had taken on an even greater significance over the past 48 hours. With that done and only taking him five minutes at most, he folded the bathrobe and left it on the floor to be picked up by the maids when they came later and left the bathroom. "Hey Stella, we're supposed to check by 10- want to get breakfast before then?" He called out. Despite their feats last night, it seemed Okita's stomach had decided that it wasn't going to stay satisfied for long and he both heard and felt it rumble hungrily. The thought of bacon and eggs with a jug of orange juice was rather appealing at that moment in time he had to admit. meanwhile, two distinct lumps under the blankets of the bed indicated where Zetsu and Imalia had settled back down to sleep in the warm enfolds of the hotel blankets.

After receiving their clothes and having Okita wake with a spring in his step and a smile on his face Stella couldn’t help but wonder how the man could be such a morning person, with her hair in shambles -sticking up everywhere and whatnot- and a look on her face that read as ‘why must morning’s exist’ the mage was most definitely not as plucky as the knight in the room that was for sure. Of course whether or not Okita actually noticed the expression on her face as he bounded over her to her with his smile and aura of energy to grab his clothes Stella had no idea for without a word he practically skipped into the bathroom to get changed, alright so he wasn’t bounding and skipping but it sure as hell seemed like it to the tired and non-morning person that Stella was. Imalia and Zetsu wasted no time seeing that the bed they had been dying to try out was now occupant free and after the door was closed and they were sure that the coast was clear both creatures darted out from under it’s duvet and leapt onto the soft mattress with glee evident on their faces, this sight was short lived however as both dove under the covers and began to play around with snuffling sounds evidently coming from them both as they sought each other out in the darkness that was under the quilt.

Shaking her head at the two mew members of the family being morning people also Stella looked to the armour that was on a coat hanger in her grip, the workers had most definitely done one heck of a job on it that was for sure. If she wasn’t careful she might find herself blinding people as the sun shone off of it’s metallic places and into their eyes, chuckling at a few funny mental images that the thought raised in her mind the Quatro Cerberus mage found the small amount willpower and motivation to take the first step in getting re-dressed for the day ahead of them. As one would do Stella untied the robe that she was wearing and let it drop to the ground while pre-ceding to put on piece after piece of her armoured attire, she stuck to the main body pieces before sitting on the end of the bed -being careful not to sit on one of the playing animals within it’s covers- and pulling on her boots. As she did so her mind began to wander to what she had been dreaming about when she was awoken by the woman at the door, she knew why she had been dreaming of it but the fact of the matter was that it only served to cause more problems then she wanted to deal with at the current time. Stirring up curiosity in the subject of what exactly he had meant back at the resort and although she had pretended she understood everything at the time it was a lie…a blatant lie.

Okita yelled out from the bathroom so that she would hear him and it was those words that startled her from her daydreaming and thoughts, breakfast? A quick glance at the clock on the wall near the door and opposite the bed read with an answer that definitely told them they had time to get some, and with the small amount of left over food from the night before the two bubbles under the quilt would be fed while they were out. The main fact that prevented Stella from saying no to getting breakfast was the fact that without it the mage simply didn’t function for the rest of the day, “Yeah, Imalia and Zetsu can eat the left over food from last night while we are out.”. Standing and walking to the bathroom with all but her gauntlet like gloves on Stella picked up the tiny complimentary comb that sat by the sink and started to comb through her birds nest of a hair do, “I’ll do this while you feed them?”. Luckily for all concerned Stella was blessed with naturally straight and fine hair that required little to no maintenance and after combing it and washing her face she would deem herself ready to put on her remaining items of attire and leave for breakfast, she normally wouldn’t just wear such things to breakfast and the like but when it was all that you had one had to do as she could and that meant wearing it whether she liked it or not.

Emerging from the bathroom, Okita was just in time to see Stella put the finishing touches on her armor and was about to jokingly remark that he would have happily helped her with donning her armored attire but thought better of it and held his tongue. Since that night in the mountains, it had finally begun to sink in that two years had passed since he had last seen Stella and that so much could happen in that time. What had Stella been doing for the past two years? Had she had any other relationships? Did she still feel as strongly about him as he did for her? Despite having Kazuya's memories filling in the gaps in his own life, the vast majority of Okita's personality was... well... himself and as such his emotions and feelings towards her were effectively in stasis- unwavering and unchanging until the present when they were brought to light once more. It was all very confusing and complicated really and the headache he got from just thinking about it was nothing compared to the veritable migraine he got when he considered how he was going to broach the subject to the blonde standing in front of him. All in good time, he thought to himself as a means of putting aside that matter in favor of an easier one. Feeding the pets.

This was an exceptionally easy task to accomplish really. All he had to do was locate the trolley from last night, gather the stuff that their furry companions could eat without fear of choking on something and put it down for them to eat whilst Stella dealt with her hair and the rest of her clothing. Rifling through the leftovers, Okita stacked all of the sausages and steaks covered in congealed gravies and sauces onto one plate and carried the meaty platter over to the foot of the bed. "Hey, you guys hungry?" He inquired of the pair of lumps under the bed. There was a moment of stillness following hsi question before the lumps began to move towards the far end of the bed and both Imalia and Zetsu poked their heads out from under the blankets and upon seeing the food on offer, wasted little time in coming to claim their breakfast. Naturally Imalia was dignified in doing so whilst Zetsu was galloping across the bed tossing his head like an idiot and it gave Okita cause to chuckle as he left them to their own devices.

Behind him, Stella had evidently completed her preparations as she emerged from the bathroom which meant it was time they went and got some breakfast for themselves. Opening the door and holding it open until Stella had stepped through, they walked down to where the hotel provided a complimentary buffet breakfast to it's guests (between the ours of 8am and 10am at least). Perhaps he was imagining it or perhaps it was because of what he'd been thinking earlier but any attempts at conversation stuck in his throat as he played out in his mind how what he said may be received and the rippling effect it might have on their relationship- the dynamics of which he wasn't sure he understood at all. So it was that not a word was spoken by the time they reached the buffet area and were led to a table for two. Immediately Okita wished that he had said something- anything on the way down. But who knew, maybe it was all in his head and Stella hadn't picked up on any awkwardness. he could only hope that was the case as they each sat down facing each other across the small table.

What had two years changed? It had been something that Stella had first thought of upon their arrival to the hotel where they were currently guests at but it something that had a habit of slipping her mind should anything at all decide to occur, there was something so familiar about having Okita around that it was simple for the mage to forget that two years had passed and that things weren’t the exact same as they once had been. Time had passed and things had grown to be unknown and uncertain, she was sure there was still feelings there on the knight’s side for her as per the events of the days that had passed since their meeting at the resort where she had been working but the extent of those was no longer something she could vouch for with one hundred percent certainty nor the same conviction she could have done two years ago. Stella wasn’t even sure on her own heart after so long, she knew she still loved the man and she knew that nothing in regards to that had changed and yet something felt slightly awkward at times when around him. Was it that time hadn’t been able to bend or sway her heart but it had weaved it’s way into her mind inside to plant a niggling seed of unfamiliarity with the situations she was finding herself in? Perhaps, she couldn’t think of another reason for her sudden shyness when came to the man she knew so well and was so intimate with before his disappearance. Doubt was something she never considered, she didn’t doubt him or what he said but maybe just maybe not understanding the reasons he gave was causing something akin to it?

Nothing was said by Okita past the time that she had heard him speak to the animals in the room from her place in the bathroom but honestly as with thoughts of her own on matters swirling within her mind Stella hadn’t actually noted that fact until they were both being seated at the table where they would eat breakfast. Panicking and worrying that she was acting strangely and making things awkward she quickly decided to rectify the situation by being the one to start conversation, “Can’t wait, I don’t know about you but the smells coming from the buffet table over there have my stomach making some pretty shifty sounds.”. One of the regular and yet never dull smiles of the mage’s accompanied her words and a quick glance over to the buffet table where an elderly couple seemed to be having trouble choosing what they wanted to eat first was all it took for it to twist into one of slight amusement. The amusement wasn’t at the couples trouble deciding as that would be rather mean, it was aimed at a memory that surfaced in her head that it had thrown the rope to. Remembering one of the many times that her family would go to a buffet style restaurant for food Stella could almost feel the touch of her oldest brother’s hand on her shoulder as he begged her too hurry up and make her choice as if he were really standing behind her.

Being one to like just about any food you threw in front of her and one to take particular liking that night to everything on the buffet table Stella was the quickest of the siblings to make it to the table and therefore the first to make her choice in order for the line that consisted of her two brothers to progress. The problem was that she simple couldn’t make up her mind on what she wanted and after 5 minutes of waiting for their little sister with grumbling stomachs of their own the two young men were growing impatient and agitated, when his gentle nudge failed to spur his sister’s decision on Carvin decided that if she wasn’t going to hurry up then she was going to the back of the line to decide. Easily picking her small and young frame up at the waist the muscular knight carried her to the other side of their brother and placed her down again, obviously this move didn’t please Stella at all since she was worried that the ‘pigs’ -her brothers- would get to all the good food before her and giving him a glare the blonde was prompt to stomp her way back to where she was and snatch the piece of ham from his plate that he had just put there. Arguments developed that night and as she looked back on them Stella couldn’t help but think on how easy childhood truly was, she might have had her issues but when she looked at her current state she could see just how much missed those kind of nights with her family.

Shaking herself free from the memory and returning her gaze to the knight sitting across from her Stella grabbed her plate and stood from her chair, “Be back in a sec”. In reality her choices would take her at least 5 minutes but once she returned she looked satisfied with what was on her plate and her eyes gleamed at the food, “Sorry it took so long, but I’m sure you’ll have trouble choosing too when you get up there”. Stella was far from stupid and she was picking up that something was indeed wrong with Okita, was it the awkwardness she had caused with her silence on the way down? Deciding that she would simply have to bite the bullet to speak and bring some questions to light before they travelled on -perhaps even after the meal itself- Stella started to eat her food as she waited for Okita to return and do the same.

Once the meal was finished and both found themselves walking back to their room Stella made her move as to rectifying what she could, “Why don’t take Imalia and Zetsu to the park in town for a bit, they’ve been cooped up in that room for a while now.” The animals were the perfect reason to go for a walk somewhere more appropriate for a talk in the mage’s eyes and so she would use them this once for ulterior motives, surely they wouldn’t mind if it got them outside and into a park.

Sarcasm. Because beating the shit out of people is illegal.

Okita forced a smile for Stella as she announced she was going to get food from the buffet and gave him one of her smiles that was bright enough that even a blind man would be able to see it. As she stood up and approached the table, Okita leaned back in his chair as though a great weight had been lifted from his shoulders and sighed, closing his eyes as he did so. The 'great weight' as it were was keeping up a facade of contentment despite the gnawing doubts that were clawing away within him. Part of him knew he was being silly- not because Stella couldn't have moved on- but rather because the way he had left her alone the past 2 years she had every right to move on with her life. He still loved her, of that he was certain, but part of loving someone was wanting them to be happy and if she'd found a place to be happy where Okita wasn't playing a part of it, then he would do his best to accept that for her sake. He was fully aware that there was still every chance that he was being pessimistic, yet for some reason he just couldn't bring himself to open himself to that possibility blindly in case it led to heartbreak.

By the time Stella returned, Okita had done little but think himself in circles and subsequent tangles and ultimately- was still occupying the exact same head space as he had when she left. Thankfully, seeing the food she had brought back reminded him of his appetite and he took the opportunity offered to take his leave from the table. "I'll just take a bit of everything", he remarked in response to Stella's dilemma in being spoiled for choice. Approaching the buffet, Okita ahd to admit that Stella hadn't been exaggerating. This place had foods that Okita didn't even recognise, but not one to be deterred- he remained true to his word and loaded his plate with as many different samples as his plate could safely handle before returning to the table. Upon returning to the table, the pair ate in silence which thankfully wasn't awkward as the one before had been on account of them eating and hence having an excuse not to make much conversation. As the meal neared its conclusion though, he found himself panicking as topics of conversation escaped his grasp and another drawn out awkward silence would just about kill him.

Thankfully, Stella proved herself the better half with words as once their meal was over, she suggested sweetly that they take the animals to the park. For an instant, Okita wondered if bringing the animals was to in some way act as chaperones but quashed it immediately. Now he was really being silly. Grinning, Okita cleared his plate away before speaking, "I could do with a walk too after eating all that", he chuckled as they made their way up to the room. A few minutes and several feats of great stealth later, the pair were outside of the hotel with Imalia and Zetsu in tow on their way to the park. Overhead, the mid morning sun was bright and warm overhead. It was what many would call perfect weather and the only clouds that could be seen were those of the extremely fluffy variety that in stories couples would lie on their backs and take turn seeing pictures in the clouds. he wondered if it would be okay to be so optimistic as to take it as a positive sign of things to come for himself and Stella. He wasn't superstitious in the least, but a little optimism never killed anybody... often.

Almost before he knew it, they were in the mist of the green grass and shady trees that made up the towns park. Being a workday, the place was mostly deserted at this time of morning so besides the pair and their furry companions, there was nary a soul within sight. Again, Okita wondered if this was some kind of sign and almost chuckled at the notion. Recognising their surroundings as perfect for playing, Imalia and Zetsu were soon off racing around in an elaborate game of tag- which left Okita and Stella effectively alone walking side by side. Realizing that he should say something- anything really- Okita felt the familiar sensation of his tongue becoming led, his stomach churning and his scalp prickling with cold sweat. It was often said that Okita was afraid of nothing- but right here, right now, the knight had found something he was truly afraid of and that was the risk of hearing something he didn't want to hear from the woman he loved and the with every second that passed, his desire to speak grew but so did his inability to do so in equal measure. All he needed was a push to get started, but it definitely wasn't coming from within himself.

It took less then a moment for the two small creatures in the backpack to realise they were outside again and as if the humans that had put them in there had forgotten they had done so the two began to squirm and raise ruckus until the zipper was undone and their feet were once more on the ground. Imalia emerged with what was obviously Zetsu drool plastering itself through her normally pristine fur and a rather furious look on her face while Zetsu himself emerged with tongue hanging out and a cheeky smile plastered across his, it really was impossible not to laugh and/or smile at the two of them. The park according to the people behind the front desk of the hotel was only a street or so away but as they walked to it time seemed to slow down, perhaps it was due to the tense air around them or perhaps it was….no it was definitely because of the thick tense air that was surrounding both Stella and Okita. There had been no argument or not words said that would cause the aura between them, this was one born of things still yet to be said and events still yet to occur. Summoning the words and the courage to say them as she watched Zetsu and Imalia frolic around the massive park they walked through Stella could sense that Okita was just as tense and out of place, she could practically feel his sweaty palms and hear every time he swallowed the words that rose to his tongue and after several minutes it seemed that if she didn’t do or say anything then neither was the knight that normally had conversation under control.

“So, what have you been doing with yourself these last couple of years?”, it was a seemingly simple question that would prove to most difficult to be answered and it would followed perhaps by ones even trickier. “I can’t say I remember what you said before, it’s been ….. Hectic”, her words were a lie and even though they wouldn’t be discovered to be one it didn’t make it any less of one. Stella hated lying, especially to Okita but surely just this once would be alright. Why did she lie about remembering what he had said to her back at the resort? His reason for disappearing for two years had been one she hadn’t understood, rather then risking him thinking she was calling him a liar she had decided to ask for him to explain it all once again. If he said the same thing then she would have no choice but to question it, hopefully though he said more then he had just been sleeping.

There were other things that she was curious about, such as his brother Kazuya that she had run into at the resort. Why were they both there at that resort? Was Kazuya even really there or had Okita simply used that as an excuse to get out a sticky situation? While she had trust that the knight wouldn’t do something like that it was excusable that she have such niggling thoughts at such a time wasn’t it? Had Okita moved on in those two years and was it with that woman called Alyssa? Why was it that trouble only arose with the knights and those that sought her out on behalf of the man that died at her brothers hands when Okita too appeared in the picture? All these and more were floating around in Stella’s mind but they were questions that she wouldn’t ask until she had the most pressing answer of all, why hadn’t he showed up like he had promised her he would? Perhaps in his explanation of that some of the others would be answered aw well, only time would tell as it seemed.

It was as though his prayers had been answered by some unseen benevolent force when Stella broke the increasingly prominent tension in the air. Now provided with the push he so desperately needed, Okita searched for the easiest way to explain once more what had transpired over the two years in which they had been separated. It certainly wouldn't be adequate to say 'I was sleeping' or 'I went through knight academy again'. No he was going to need to address the issue as clearly and precisely as possible and hope that Stella could understand. Coming to a stop, Okita drew in a deep breath as the words he was going to use fell into place like a slot machine and he began his explanation afresh. "My brother, Kazuya Onizaki was stricken with an incurable disease at a young age. When i left to join the knight, Kazuya stayed behind in the family house where he was receiving constant medical care." He trailed off, briefly overwhelmed by the dual set of memories he had of that time of Kazuya's- of his life from both perspectives. "His illness grew worse and he was going to die of this illness... Unless I agreed to an experimental procedure which could give him a second chance." This was it, this was the crux of the issue here and as he forged ahead it occurred to him that he knew how to make Stella understand his thought process.

"Stella, how far would you go to save your brothers life?" It was a rhetorical question but he knew that it would set Stella's thoughts on the right path. "I agreed to the procedure, which to put it plainly, involved having my brothers consciousness magically transplanted into my own head." This was where the obvious question arose- why did he willingly go through this when he knew it meant breaking his promise and abandoning the woman he loved. "I hope you can understand", he said in a soft voice, "Kazuya never had a chance to live. He was my brother and I couldn't let him die when I had a chance at saving him." he was silent for several moments a she trailed off after his last words and when he spoke again, it was barely above a whisper. "It was like being pulled out of my brain and having something... else put back in. For the past two years it's been like a deep sleep from which I couldn't wake from until Kazuya met you."

Now to address the rest of Stella's question. :The last two years doesn't feel real to me. if the proof wasn't right before my eyes I'd easily believe that only days had passed since the last time we met. Now that I'm myself again however I recall everything that Kazuya did from enlisting with the knighthood to becoming friends with people from princesses to paupers." Recalling all that remained to him of his brother, Okita felt the vague sting of tears behind his eyes but he forged on. "He was terrible with women. Not even a single girlfriend to his name. God only knows what I'll say when I meet his friends face to face." Well that was Okita's story, now he needed to sate a curiosity of his own. "Stella... I know that it's been two years and I left you alone and I don't know if I'll ever be able to forgive myself for that and... well... My feelings for you are the same as they were the night we made that promise but I can understand if, well, if you found someone else... instead of me while I was gone." There, he'd said it (albeit awkwardly). Now all there was to do was hold his breath and pray that he still had a place in her heart.

From the very beginning, from the moment that Okita started talking Stella knew nothing he said was going to be anything but depressing. There was something in his tone and something on his face that told her that the story he was about to tell wasn’t filled with parties and fun, no the story he was going to tell her was serious and sad to boot. Her instincts were quickly proven to be correct as the tale took a turn to family and illness, so the brother that he rarely spoke of had been incredibly ill and hence why he didn’t find himself eager to speak of such depressing topics. It made sense although at the same time Stella couldn’t help but wish the man had just spoken to her regarding it, her family could have tried to help…or at least she could have helped him through it. Suddenly Okita asked a question that struck Stella like a anvil from a two story building, how far would she go to save her brother’s life? Although the knight walking alongside her hadn’t meant the question to do more then help her understand his actions it did in fact stir much more then intended. Memories flooded through the mage’s mind like someone was fast forwarding a video, wasn’t the entire reason they were both in such a mess in the first place because of what she would do for her brother? As it was she had put both her life and without meaning to Okita’s life in danger, a promise that she was keeping did this and who was it for? Her brother.

Knowing she had to ignore the trail of thoughts and emotions that begged her to walk down it Stella kept her ears open and listened to all that Okita had to say, it was lucky she had for the knight skipped no beats in his explanation. Going on regarding a procedure to place his brother’s consciousness placed within himself Okita effectively lost Stella, something like that could even be done? While she didn’t understand the process or even how it could be done the mage still believed what she was being told, she trusted Okita enough to know he wouldn’t lie to her. The break in his words signalled to Stella that perhaps it was her turn to speak, perhaps he was waiting for her to say something. This signal proved deceitful as she went to open her mouth to speak only to be cut off by yet more words, this time however seemingly following a slightly different and hidden path in topic. Stella wasn’t stupid, nor was she slow to catch onto small things that many might miss or mark off as irrelevant. The fact Okita had thought to speak of his brother’s lack of girlfriends informed her of his true intentions, he was trying to let her know that as far as he knew he hadn’t been unfaithful and this in itself warned her of what was coming.

Okita’s words were as awkward and staggered as she knew they would be, and truthfully Stella wasn’t sure if she could answer the hidden and unspoken question that they had inferred without being much the same way. A few seconds of silence passed before she found herself with words coming to mind and mouth, “I’m Sorry to hear of your brother, I wish you would have told me sooner”. A breath was taken and thoughts processed before once again Stella continued on, “I, I’ve been waiting you know. Waiting at the tree where we said we’d meet, for two years. I joined the guild there to get enough money for rent in town and it’s where I’ve been ever since. I owe my guild and everyone in it a lot, they’ve kept me company and I’ve made lots of new friends, met lots of new people. But…”Stella’s footsteps stopped as she paused her speech once more as she looked down to the ground in front of her feet, “I never stopped waiting for you”. Raising her amethyst eyes from the ground as she spoke Stella looked to Okita, part of her had wanted to push him and tell him he was stupid thinking that she would have done anything like what he had said and yet the part that was winning out contained such anger.

Sarcasm. Because beating the shit out of people is illegal.

It was, in many respects, the most tense few minutes of Okita's life as he waited for confirmation- for better of for worse- from Stella in regards to her relationship status. With his mind so caught up on that point, it was all he could do to pay attention to the other things she was saying. She raised a valid point in regards to his brother, why hadn't he told her about him? At the time he thought he'd had good reason in doing so because his parents had ingrained it within him not to speak of his brother and his illness. Only now that he looked back on it did he see the folly in this and that his parents were not protecting Kazuya but rather their own image by keeping his existence a secret. It was a little late to just say 'my bad, so yeah I have this brother...' so he'd have to swallow that pill and chalk it up to experience for the future- if there was indeed to be a future for them. But what would have changed if he'd told her everything about him? Try as he might he couldn't come up with a scenario that didn't end up with him making the penultimate sacrifice for his younger brother. Perhaps the fact that Stella didn't know in some way shielded her. Or maybe Okita was fooling himself in order to try and wean some level of justification from what he'd done.

As Stella spoke of joining a guild Okita couldn't help but feel a swell of pride within his chest. He'd had full faith in the woman that she could be independent and take care of herself- despite protests to the contrary so very long ago and hearing how she'd coped with his disappearance an eked out a life for herself warmed his being to the core and a smile graced his face as he listened to her tell of the friends she had made over the past two years. Then the creeping voice in the back of his mind asked the question, were friends all that she had made? He was about to find out as Stella paused with such suspense that Okita felt he could have swam through it. Then, at long last, the words that would make or break him came to life, “I never stopped waiting for you”. Stella's eyes met Okita's as she said these words and Okita felt a gargantuan weight lift off his very soul. Before he was even fully conscious of what he was doing, the knight stepped forwards and took the love of his life in an intimate embrace. Words failed him and 'thanks' was such a hilariously underwhelming response that he actually began to laugh. "I must have been a saint in my past life to deserve someone like you Stella", he said before letting her go. At the same time Imalia and Zetsu returned to run around their feet in their game of chasings.

It was then that Okita looked back up at Stella, still smiling on account of simply not being able not to smile. But something behind Stella drew Okita's gaze and his smile rapidly vanished to be replaced by concern. For what he saw was a trio of men dressed in all too familiar uniforms walking down the street that bordered the park. They were almost level with the pair and their animal friends and all they would have had to do was turn 90 degrees to their right to be looking straight at them. "Get down!", Okita whispered urgently, placing a hand on her shoulder and pushing down as he dropped into a crouch and led the way in a part crouch- part crawl fashion to the cover of a nearby hedge which hid them from view but also left them within earshot of the trio. "Why are we even here? Nobody in their right mind would try and cross that peak" Okita shot Stella a look as he heard one of the men complaining to his fellows and felt a surge of relief. They didn't know for sure Stella and Okita were here, whoever was in charge was just covering their bases. As long as they were careful, then it stood to reason that they'd be able to slip past those who had been sent and get out of town undetected. The only problem was, most of their stuff was still in the hotel and they were going to have to go back for it... Bugger. It seemed that Imalia and Zetsu had sensed the change in the atmosphere and had ceased their playing to now sit quietly with the pair as they contemplated their next move.
