Let the flan flow through you.
The mage definitely liked this whole water themed challenge. It definitely was much more interesting than the last challenge, where he barely could see what was in store for him and how to deal with it. Luckily, thanks to the torch given to him and some quick thinking, the Fairy Tail mage found a way to pass around this and used the fire and his clothes to light a path ahead of him. Luckily, he didn't stumble upon anything to dangerous, except maybe the giant hammer that almost smashed him away from the path and almost made him fall to the bottomless pits around the pathway. That was close.

Anyways, he was now swimming in some cave lake/ocean/whatever Casey's mind was creating, and he was slightly enjoying. The fact that his life was slightly on the line thanks to the supply of oxygen provided by the bottle didn't seem to bother the Fairy Tail mage. He knew that at some point he would find some other underwater-breathing bottle. As both the hat and Larkin got deeper and deeper within the cave's underwater pathways, they finally seemed to observe something interesting. The mage couldn't see well, so he motioned the hat to follow him. They got closer and could finally observe the presence of yet another pot, atop another alter.

The hat proceeded to knock the top off of the pot and small bubbles came out. This indicated that object was here before Casey's dreams/imagination "flooded" the place. In any case, the interior of it showed a bottle, identical to the one the mage had taken earlier. The hat suggested that this meant that the depth at which they would go would be even more than anticipated. He's right, there is something not so good about this whole situation... Shrugging, Larkin took the bottle and carefully manipulated it to absorb whatever was in it. In that instant, he felt better again, and had extended the amount of time he could stay underwater. This strangely resembled a certain game that involved an italian plumber going in a water planet to defeat a giant fish...

As they sank deeper into the watery depths, it got darker until their vision was practically null. Even the hat floating a short distance away would be unseen by Larkin, despite the close proximity to the sword mage. As they swam deeper, they'd bump into something flat at the bottom of the flooded tunnel - something that felt wooden and wide - a door! More observation would lead to the discovery of slats of wood, but with no water on the other side, despite the open parts between the wood. Above Larkin would be a grinding noise - the opening of the second potion had triggered some hidden device and sealed off the tunnel! Larkin was trapped underwater! He could breathe, thanks to the effects of the potion, but it wouldn't last forever - Larkin had to figure out how to open the door underwater.

"We're in a pickle...." noted the hat, his bubble shrinking slightly - the hat didn't need to breathe, but couldn't function properly in the water, and the spell was starting to wear off. "And I don't think you can cut through a door through that thick with your blade if the speed is hampered by the water, can you?...."

Indeed, the level of oxygen one bottle gave was a lot, but not enough when considering the depths of this underwater shaft. I mean seriously, Casey's imagination was wild and everything, but endless supply of water? Really? That guy must watch A LOT of weird and questionable movies. In any case, Larkin, sighing only in his mind (since sighing literally would mean less oxygen), he simply got deeper into the water realm, until he reached a door. With Millions Suns natural light, he started to inspect the whole thing, noticing slits on the wooden door, no hinges and no handle. While trying to figure out what would happen, a large noise could be heard.

It didn't take neither Larkin or the hat any time to figure out that they were in real deep sh**. After all, they had a very limited supply of breathable air, and they couldn't go back out, now that the shaft was blocked from above. The mage's first reflex was to raise his blade and swing with all his strength, which nine times out ten worked very well. However, the hat reminded him that they were underwater, and that the force of his swings was considerably reduced. Damn, forgot about that. He then looked at the door. He couldn't open it normally, he couldn't slice, there was no bell and he couldn't speak. The mage did the only logical thing a human being did when he was about to die drowned in another person's dream.

Larkin Falzo, B-Class mage of Fairy Tail, knocked on the door.

As Larkin knocked on the underwater door, the door immediately swung open, but the water didn't pour through as one would expect, instead it stopped at the door frame, as if something was keeping it outside the room. The same didn't apply to Larkin and the hat, however, as he fell through like a ton of bricks, like gravity had suddenly decided to take ahold of him again. Thankfully the small stone room had hay scattered on the floor of it, so the fall wasn't too rough. The hat bounced twice as it hit the floor, and then the bubble popped. Shaking its head, the hat said, "Well, that was interesting, to say the least."

In the middle of the room was a blue sphere held in the same cage-like contraption that the last one was in. If he touched it, the hat and Larkin both would be back in the starting room again, and the blue sphere would follow the lead of the green essence, zipping over to vanish into the middle of Casey's chest with a mild ripple.

"The remaining essences should be downstairs," said the hat as it went downstairs itself, a short staircase that descended along the wall of the house before emptying into the first floor room. In this room, it was much the same as upstairs, just that there was an empty, scorched bookcase in one corner, and the two doors here were a stone tunnel with a closed gate and a stone door with a push button and strange markings. "Which shall it be?"

Larkin knocked on the door.

If anyone else had seen this, had observed the situation and had seen what the mage was doing in this dangerous moment, they either would facepalm or try to smack Larkin right across the head. In fact, there was no way that knocking on the door would work. Then again, there wasn't any other options. Larkin couldn't ring a bell (there wasn't any), he couldn't cut it with a sword (he was wunderwater, which reduced the strength of his swing) and he couldn't just simply open the door. For the Fairy Tail mage, it was the only logical thing to do...

...And he was right.

Knocking the door made it suddenly swing open. Larkin and the hat looked at each other, with "really, that simple?" looks on their faces. The mage was very much surprised, but happy. This challenge wasn't as difficult as the first one, but it was MUCH more stressful. The Fairy Tail member actually had goosebumps, but he still was ready to do what must be done in order to win the challenges and get the essences. Finally, both he and the hat were pushed out of the water, which magically stopped at the door frame. Sighing and falling, the Fairy Tail mage got up and looked around for any clues whatsoever. He finally saw a glowing blue sphere in the middle of the room. The Essence of Courage... He approached it, and as he grabbed it, it transported the mage back to Casey's dream room, which had slightly changed again.

Larkin watched as the second essence he had gotten went into a chest, along with the first essence he had gotten. Also, he could feel magical power coursing through his veins. Some of his magical powers were back once more. Good... Maybe whatever I can now do will be useful in the next challenge... He then looked around, where he noticed that two doors, like last round, were waiting for him. This time, the mage stretched a little. Fights were about to come his way, he just knew it. After his little stretching ritual, the hat asked him which door he wanted to go through. Things were getting interesting, so Larkin made his choice.

Let's go through the stone tunnel, with the gate in front. I wonder what challenge this one will be?

As Larkin selected the stone tunnel with the iron gate, the gate slowly began to open up, creaking as the gear clanked together to heave it upward - by the flakes of rust shedding from it, it hadn't been opened in a long time. However long a "long time" was in a dream. As the last of the gate moved from his path, there was another flash of light, and the hat and swordsman appeared in a room that was very poorly lit, save for 4 areas - 3 square areas squared in with pillars of rock with only a half inch between them, about 6 feet wide and 10 feet tall, any thin lines of light showing from between each, and one distantly lit area - all the squarish areas were along one stone path high above an abyss, like the first room, but no torches or clothes this time. Just a map on a pedestal:

Posted Image

In the squarish areas, he'd notice marks on the floor on tiles matching each of the markings and each the size of a pillar in width - but also holes on each and every pillar aimed at the tiles. There was missing pillar on either side of the areas, and exit and entrance. The smallest room was first, the largest room last.

"Welcome to the Test of Patience. If you look at the map you've been given, I'm guessing that should let you know what you're dealing with, eh?" said the hat.

The mage had just survived the whole water ordeal and the simple and stupid act of knocking on the door was the way for him to saving his life. Even now, Larkin grinned when he thought of it. If this was Noel’s or Eric’s dreams, this would’ve been much more complicated. In fact, if Larkin was in Eric’s mind, this probably would have been a very scary thing, direr in situation and much more dangerous. Thinking about it brought a shiver down his spine. The young Grimoire Heart was his friend, but he was still a dark mage, and a creepy one at that. As he finally entered the client’s room, the Essence of Courage went into a box and gave the Fairy Tail mage some of his magical powers back. Feeling ready, he saw two doors and chose the stone tunnel with the Iron Gate.

As he entered he noticed that many places were lit. Three of them formed some kind of path and the further down they went, the more their size increased. He also noticed that there were some symbols engraved on each tiles of these “rooms”. Closer to him was a Greek-like pedestal on which was a map. Strangely, it reminded him of a game he had heard about where a kid, in order to challenge some league of pocket monsters, had to beat the fourth boss. That fourth boss could only be reached if the kid could walk the right path on a floor that was completely black. This seemed kind of simple, especially since the solution seemed to be right in front of him. Good thing I brush up on those kid games… However, he noticed right away that he could not take the map with him at all. He found this a little troublesome, especially since he definitely couldn’t remember the symbols. So for a good ten minutes, he stared at the whole things, trying to remember the path.

At that moment, the hat interrupted his thinking, telling him some info about his challenge, things he had already figured out, but it was a good thing he was being reminded. Larkin had no room for mistakes, for he did not know what kind of danger he would face if he did not pick the right path. Suddenly, something hit him. He looked at the map, which represented each room and smacked the side of his right fist into the palm of his left hand. There was no need to exactly remember the road: each of the paths ran along one single symbol. All Larkin had to do was memorize the symbol for each room, remember where the pathway started and ended, and the whole thing would be done in a breeze. Looking again at the map, he only took five minutes to remember the things he needed for this test.

Appearing in front of the first room of the three and the smallest, he looked at the first row. Larkin had memorized the first symbol and the position of beginning and position of end of the road. However, not wanting to be too confident in his steps, he tiptoed on every single tile, ex-quipping his Eisenmeteor, ready to strike any traps, ghouls or monsters that would come his way. There’s no rush Larkin… Take it real slow… He didn’t like these kind of challenges; however, he knew that the strength of a mage wasn’t only his brute force, but also his intellect. Plus, this was testing Larkin’s patience. In normal circumstances, he was uncomplaining, but the fact that Larkin had come here for fun was apparent. This is very boring…

As Larkin made his way carefully across the tiles, the tiles would suddenly turn clear on the top, the marks vanishing as all the tiles went blank, and began to shuffle around with Larkin on top of them. When they finally settled down, they had all changed position, so that the tiles were no longer in the same order as before. If Larkin tried stepping on a blank tile, it would reveal the symbol underneath it - if it was the right one, he'd be fine, but if it was the wrong one, the traps would activate from the nearby pillars.

(Sorry, muse is low, rough night - and tbh, the jabs at my RPing didn't help...)

Larkin had calculated most of the things (and believe me when I say that it took him a tremendous effort) that he had to calculate. He memorized the main symbols of each room and knew more or less what the patterns were. He had deduced how the whole Test of Patience was. This trial was indeed testing his fortitude, something he always had in most times, except when they involved puzzles, mathematical problems and stuff Noel and Alastor were probably better at. His intelligence lied in battles, hopeless situations that needed immediate actions and surprisingly, remembering useful information only when it was needed. For example, when he was at the Ragna Tower, he remembered that metal conducted electricity and could thus act like lightning rod. He used that against the enemy, which proved pivotal in battle. However, in normal life, or in this case, puzzle situation, he was helpless.

It was a miracle indeed that he was able to solve this, but his determination had led him to dangerous paths such as this one and he had overcome them all; the Fairy Tail mage wasn’t going to stop just yet. He wasn’t going to stop, even if, after solving the puzzle and walking confidently yet cautiously onto the first tile, all the symbols disappeared. Well, Larkin wasn’t going to stop, but he sure wasn’t too jolly about the new situation that arose in front of him. What the… That Casey and his endless imagination… Where does he get it all? Video games? Books? Even if he was a little frustrated at the situation, he reminded himself that he did end up in someone more or less sane’s head. If it was Eric Bashere’s… Shivers went down Larkin’s spine. The Grimoire Heart mage was his friend, but he was still creepy as hell (saying this more than once is not enough to put across how uncanny he is).

In any case, with the new development unfolding in front of him, Larkin wondered how he was going to go about it. He then switched weapons, from Eisenmeteor to Millions Suns, once more. That blade was very much multipurpose: shooting light, slashing down foes and acting as a flashlight in the dark uncertainty. With the normal blue light it gave off, the sword of the Ten Commandments was certainly going to be of help when it came to seeing incoming traps. Bracing himself, he went for the next tile in front him, thinking that, after all he saw today, he was sure that the symbols had changed places.

As Larkin tapped the tile, a nearby pillar would shoot a single dart that would zip past him like a breeze and clang off the pillar on the opposite side of the little tile room. The tile on the floor that he tapped would reveal its symbol - not one of the safe symbols, but one of the unsafe ones that would set the traps off. Due to the arrangement of the pillars, the darts could still target Larkin even in the rearranged room, despite the re-positioning of the correct tiles. The general path was still in tact, however, just moved around and spaced out a tad bit.

If Larkin made it through this tile maze, he'd find two more after that, and finally the essence at the end. The secondary mazes would have less correct tiles and more darts, and the third one wouldn't reveal the tiles even when Larkin tapped or stepped on them, testing his memory and patience both.

When he touched the orb, he would find himself in the lower room again, the stone tunnel's gate closed once more, and the door with the button on it in the corner.

(Skipped ahead, since this test is....causing problems.)
