What a majestic sight. Any newcomers would be entrails by the magnificence of this city. Built upon a legion of massive boats connected by bridges, the city was floating on the likewise giant lake that powered the magic spell of each boats. The city was know to be the most romantic of all cities in Fiore. Each sector was specialized or if Koren had time to do so, he would noticed that they weir. For Koren was busy, running through the market area of the city. He had to dodged stored table filled with fruits, meat, fishes or vegetables. But of course, their wasn't only food around here. Various people of various trades were selling their product. But that wasn't important. Has the people themselves weir an obstacle, too. Has he drove forward, dodging and sometime barely bumping into people, Koren tirelessly followed the man, whom he believe, hold information on the where about of is father. The man, even though he was aged, was quite fast. After avoid a group of five people who weir bartering for the price of spice, Koren barely dodged a table which displayed various items made of lacryma crystals. Further down the path is saw through the mob, he saw the old man still running further ahead of him, turn right on an alley. Koren started to run faster, jumping on an empty table, surprising a merchant who was packing things, and using the length of the jump to skip the stare that lead to several alleys and other roads who led to bridges. But he could only caught a glimpse, because when made that turn, he violently bumped into someone. He couldn't keep his balance has he felled on his back, the impact cutting a bit of his breath. Judging from how he felt when he bumped the person in question, he also knew, too, that that person had fallen on the road like him. He lay there for a few minutes, too surprised to say or move or think or do anything at all.

This brings back memories. Allea thought as she walked through the market place of the floating city that was Coreopsis, remembering the short time she and her parents had lived here during those years on the run from her grandfather's lackeys. They did not live in this city for longer than 6 months, but the happy times spent in that brief period was enough for Allea to hear its calling and revisit it. Even though back then she was no more than 4 years of age and their stay in the floating city was brief, Allea still remembered coming to this very market place with her mother as if it was just yesterday. It had often been said that smells were the strongest triggers for memories. This was certainly the case for Allea as the aroma of cooked food and fresh cut flowers brought back every lost strand of memories that might have faded over the years, tugging at happier times that tethered at the edge of her mind where distant memories becomes a vague recollection. She remembered they had stayed in an apartment somewhere near to the market place and for some reasons unknown to her, Allea felt compelled to visit their old home. As she walked down the various turns and corners, occasionally recognising the old doors she had passed at the tender age of four with her parents, Allea found herself feeling unusually exhilarated. Even though it may seem a silly thing to consider at first but she had hoped the visit itself may help jog back missed snippets of her parents' lives that may lead to a clue, or even better still, someone who may have some current news of them. Caught up in a flurry of emotions, Allea was oblivious to the commotions further up the street ahead of her. She looked up at the windows lining the upper floors of the buildings along the street, trying to find one that looked familiar to her, one that reminded her of the very same windows she had seen many a times while peering out from their cosy second floor apartment, the little hearth that was the wellspring of bliss for their briefest time here in Coreopsis. Caught up in her search for architectural reminders of her past, Allea barely noticed the first man running out from a corner behind her, racing past as if the demons were on his heels. Had she paid more attention to the going-ons at the street level, she would have the sense to step out of the way in time to avoid his pursuer. Finally noticing the running man who almost knocked her over as he bounded past her and oblivious to his assailant giving chase behind, Allea was unable to step out of the second man's way until it was too late. The man came out of the same corner as his quarry but unlike the one he was chasing, the pursuer had not noticed Allea in time to avoid the young mage. The two inevitably crashed, the momentum of the larger framed man pushing the young girl, causing her to fall forward face down onto the cobbled street under her feet. Oh my, in what situation did I just put myself. Why did I had to chase that old man again? Ah yes. I remember now. Hmm. I hope everything is alright for the person I just bump into. Well only one way to find out. Koren slowly opened his eye. His head was spinning and has he breathed deeply, slowly gathering himself to sit on the stony road. Has he slowly gather enough strenght to pull himself on his feet, he remembered why he was chasing the old man. He remembered minding his business, a few minutes ago, buying food for his next trip. Has he was making his mind in what to decided between a chocolate cookie or a vanilla flavored cookie, he overheard a conversation on his back. By listening to it, he could conclude that two old man had spotted him out of the crowd. Two old man, because they at each a deep but hard to hear voice within this crowd. They had spotted him, since he overheard them talking about is blue parka. But that wasn't the most important detail about this particular conversation. They were talking about his father. Now, that was interesting. They mentioned that he looked like him...pretty obvious, since he was is son. One of them suddenly panicked, thinking that he, Koren, was a family member sent to kill him. Interesting faq, so one of them was somehow related to his father. Paying the merchant with jewels, Koren had immediately turn around to see one of the old man running off in the distance. Not giving himself time to think better before acting, he immediately ran after his new found living clue. After several minutes later, he was now crouching near the girl, for it was a girl, to see if everything was alright. ''By the dragons, I'm sorry about that. I'm really sorry. Are you alright me lady?'' he said with a soft voice, whiling trying to help by slowly but delicately flip the girl on her back. He had putted his hood aside, showing off his face and grey, flashing eye's. He noticed her green hair and some kind of wing like hairpin. ''I promise that's I'll make it up too you somehow. If only I had slowed down while turning this corner...my master told me he was to hasty.'' he said while waiting for her to regain her senses. |

Falling was not something Allea enjoyed doing, falling on hard surfaces even less so. As she laid face down on the ground amidst discarded scraps of food and litter that clung obstinately to the cobbled stone, Allea could feel the remnant of every pedestrian's steps transferred onto her person. The sooty stench of dirt and grime introduced her to the unique bouquet of urban life on ground level, causing her to wrinkle her nose as she recovered from the fall that almost knocked the wind out from her little lungs. Feeling the use of her limbs again, Allea forced herself to touch the dirty surfaces with her bare hands as she tried to extricate herself from the ground, a prospect she preferred not to consider on a regular basis. She could see the figure of the man who had crashed into her crouching by her side. He spoke softly, guilt and regret oozing out of every syllable of his apologies. ''By the dragons, I'm sorry about that. I'm really sorry. Are you alright me lady?'' the young man asked her as he lent a hand, helping Allea to face the world that existed away from the cobbled stones. The first thing Allea noticed was the man's flashing grey eyes framed by mussed long black hair, his loosely tied ponytail dangling down one shoulder. His gentle countenance and sincerity helped ease Allea's embarrassment, making her feel less of the inelegant oaf she was mere seconds ago. "I am fine, kind Sir. Thank you." she reassured the young man, trying to sound unfazed by the whole spectacle. "I promise that's I'll make it up too you somehow. If only I had slowed down while turning this corner...my master told me he was to hasty.'' the young man continued, as if he had just committed some cardinal sin. His reactions made Allea felt guilty for getting in his way and maybe even causing the young man potential grief. "Oh no, not at all, Sir! It was not your fault. I really should have paid attention and kept my eyes on the street instead of the buildings. It's just that I am trying to find our old home. We used to live around here." Allea said as she tried to explain while absentmindedly dusting grime and dirt off her travelling coat, adjusting the hems and sleeves of her attire to make sure she was once again presentable. Realising she may have overdone fussing over herself publicly and neglected the well-meaning young man standing before her, she stopped and looked at the young man with concern. "Oh, I am so sorry! Where are my manners? I forgot to even ask about you, young Sir! Your master, you said? Oh, I hope I did not get you into any trouble!" Allea asked, genuinely worried for th trouble sh may have caused as she misunderstood his comment. "I am more than happy to explain it to him, if that would help!" she offered lastly with great earnestness. Edited by Allura, Feb 2 2012, 04:53 AM.

"I am fine, kind Sir. Thank you." ''The dragon be praised, then.'' said Koren while letting out a breath of relief. Injuring someone wasn't something he liked to do, even more so when it come to a woman. Well, it was an accident after all. Not use in making it big, right? But at least, he was glad that she was alright. "Oh no, not at all, Sir! It was not your fault. I really should have paid attention and kept my eyes on the street instead of the buildings. It's just that I am trying to find our old home. We used to live around here." ''I understand. I'm always found of old memories myself. Can't remember last time I went around here. I think I was five years old, following my dad and my mother around. And well, it's an accident'' he said while dusting off the dirt of his parka with his hand. Yep, green hair. Beautiful too. ''Oh, I am so sorry! Where are my manners? I forgot to even ask about you, young Sir! Your master, you said? Oh, I hope I did not get you into any trouble!" ''Hahaha, no.'' said Koren while chuckling at that thought. ''He is no longer my master...their I go, I said master again. He was my sensei. He was teaching me to become a knight, but it turn out I had magic power all along.'' Well to tell the truth, it was true that his sensei insisted that he should be call master and nothing else. But Koren never really paid attention to that rule and he was never punished either. In the end, his sensei saw him has is own son. "I am more than happy to explain it to him, if that would help!" ''It's alright, I appreciate the offer but I long since quite the dream of becoming a knight. Anyway, I always called him sensei. First time I call him master, so your kind of lucky.'' Koren watched carefully around him, seeing that the old man wasn't nearby, he mused at the idea of playing cat and mouse with him. But this city was large. Far larger then any other city he had been before...maybe he could ask around. ''Hmm...lost my prey it seems. Oh well, I got his head. I'm sure I'll meet him again.'' he said to himself. ''So, you where searching for your house? Mind if I tag along, I have nothing else to do anyway.'' said Koren with a cheerful voice. He may had lost a living walking clue but at least he find some good company. ''Oh, and I'm Koren Falgasth. Pleasure to meet you.'' he said again while bowing and with a bright smile on his face. |

The young man who introduced himself as Koren Falgasth seemed good natured. Despite their little run-in, his conviviality and politeness made Allea felt easily relaxed in his presence. Generally never knowing how to be her congenial self around strangers, Allea found she had no such difficulties in the company of the well-meaning young man. It was only when he mentioned having once trained as a Knight that she was reminded to be discreet as the revelation elicited caution on the part of the young girl, herself the granddaughter of a high ranking knight in the Magic Council. Despite never knowing her own grandfather, Allea had spent enough of her childhood with her parents running from his repeated attempts to arrest them, resulting in a deep-seated wariness for all Knights both actively serving or otherwise as was in the case of Koren. With her precautions resurrected, Allea was reminded to keep this aspect of her heritage to herself even though Koren did come across as a nice enough young man and she had no reasons to doubt his declaration of no longer being part of the order. When her rushed offer to speak to Koren's master on his behalf was declared unnecessary, Allea let out a private sigh of relief, thankful for the narrowest of escape from any potential complication such an encounter might have produced. The young man appeared to be preoccupied as he looked around him as he spoke. Probably still looking for the other man that ran past before him, Allea thought to herself. His distraction was short-lived as he seemed to have abandoned his pursuit, asking instead to accompany Allea in her search for her one-time abode in Coreopsis. She briefly considered turning Koren's offer down but the guilt she felt for getting in his way earlier got the better of her and she soon found herself acceding to his offer. "Erm...ah, ok...I suppose. Oh, and it is not really my home. Well, not anymore. It was where we used to live at one point, and I just thought it would be nice to revisit the place." Allea said with a smile as she managed the half-lie, hoping it would conceal her links to the knights from the young man. "Nice to meet you Koren Falgasth. I am Allea DeFaffelle." she continued, offering a friendly handshake to the young man courteously out of habit. A briefest moment of pause followed her introduction before Allea remembered what Koren had told her about his training as a mage prior to her getting caught up in her own reminder of discretion which almost allowed this small matter of magic to slip from her mind. "So you are a mage, you say?" Allea asked as she grasped the opportunity to change the subject, helped by her genuine interest in other forms of magic. "What a coincidence, so am I! Although I am still a novice and unfortunately for me, I have only some old notes to help me with my craft." she said while keeping the fact that it was her mother who had taught her all she knew from the ex-Knight. After all, if Koren still maintained any ties to the chivalrous order, it was wisest for Allea to not reveal the fact that her mother was an accomplished Tetra mage who happened to be the only daughter of an ambitious Knight in the Magic Council, surmising such detail would not be missed by those still out to find them. Minded of her need to avoid divulging too much, Allea thought it best to divert attention from her family and changed the subject once more. "So, erm, were you chasing someone? There was another person who ran past me before you did but I did not get a good look at him as I was, uhm, distracted." Allea asked sheepishly and started walking, still slightly embarrassed by her earlier fall as her eyes were diverted upwards, returning her attention once more to the task of looking for an old home from the past, seeking familiar markers above the streets of the market place to jog her memory. "There really is no need to accompany me if you have to return to finding this person." she asked as she turned to face Koren with a last attempt to extricate herself from this quandary she had inadvertently found herself in. Their was something off. Koren clearly saw the she was feeling relaxed with him, but ever since he mentioned he had knight training, Koren had an wary feeling about it. Did he said something he shouldn't have said? Did something about him displeased her? She seem to have slight hesitation when he offered his help in finding her previous house. Of course, he could respect the faq that she wanted alone for this. Allea DeFaffelle...that didn't ring any bell so far. Nope. Ah well, it was nice name none the less. ''Well a mage...I won't consider myself a mage until I join a guild. I'm hesitating at the moment. My inexperience at my magic costed me this scar here'' he said while showing off his right hand. ''Exequip magic, during training, ended up with a broken hand...sometimes I wonder if my master really tried to avoid it. Knight, and particularity, knight trainer usually avoid using metal weapon in training. Wooden based weaponry doesn't hurt the user. At least that's what I learned after they kicked me out for being a mage...'' said Koren with a laugh. It was the truth...everything he said about it. He didn't know if he should have resented his sensei for that or not. He did spend most of this time training him to be a good knight. His magic ability must have been quite a shock...or didn't they suspect him from being able to do it anyway? ''Well, your lucky to have some notes. I have to rely on self-training and discovery. Not that I don't like it. I'm a hard-worker after all.'' Once she mentioned the person he was looking for, he had the feeling that she was somehow avoiding a particular subject...Koren couldn't help but wonder what made her so...nervous. He decided to share with her the reason on why he wanted to catch the poor fool. ''That man...the old geezer. He is related to my father. I can't really tell you all of my back-story in one shoot, but suffice to say, I'm looking for my father. Presumably, and that's what my sensei told me, he went missing in action 3 month ago. My mother, the dragon bless her, had previously leaved my father because of his obsession over a certain type of magic. He was an S-class mage, working for a mage guild called Raven Tail in conjunction with a particular branch of knight. Now that I think about it, I always felt like their something wrong in all that knight business. My father knew that I was a mage from a very young age. I used to to play the in which hand his the item. I had always won against my father or mother. Yet, I was always...nervous when I was around strangers. That's when my magic usually failed me...'' he said while taking a short pause. He wanted to gather is thoughts about a particular incident. ''When I received the news that my father was missing, it wasn't a member from his guild that came to tell me the sad news. It was a member of those knights. Thankfully, one month later, I received my father's will from one of the member of his guild. However, I was no longer in the school. I was making my way to Magnolia. That member told me he had previously tried to contact me before but he was rejected by my master...I don't know what to make it out of it. I don't have any heel feelings toward the knight organization but they way they acted...I've vowed to find out the truth about my father and my past has knight in training...I'm done and over with. True, I've learned a lot, but still I owe them nothing and I have a certain distrust over them. I would prefer to avoid meeting them again if I could. Here I go, confessing most of my burden on a perfect stranger. Baka.'' said Koren while slapping his forehead. ''Hmm..what if I wanted to go with you because I have no idea on how to catch that fellow? Beside, I have nothing else to do here and I enjoy a little bit of company. Traveling alone is though enough, but I wouldn't want to impose on you.'' He said while taking a few step forward a particular house. Yes, that house... ''Their use to be a bakery right over this house I wonder what happened, my father used to bring me there to buy me sweets.'' Said Koren with melancholy in his voice while evaluating the newly made house...or at least, it wasn't old. The paint was still fresh. Strange. Edited by Corben, Feb 5 2012, 10:34 PM.

Allea listened intently as she walked at a leisurely pace alongside her new acquaintance down the street, alternating between paying attention to the ex-Knight and keeping her eyes peeled at the windows above the streets. The duo weaved between shoppers and passersby, parting occasionally to avoid getting in the way of other pedestrians around them and stopping occasionally to inspect the wares peddled by shouting merchants. Amidst the throng of activities, Allea found the young man's friendly demeanour both charming and endearing and his forthrightness soon began to chip away at her reservations. Hearing Koren's mention of joining guilds, she entertained the idea in her head before deciding that it was not her time yet to be considering such things. As far as she was concerned, the matter of her parents fate was utmost on her list of priorities. Still, maybe a guild may help to open some doors. she mused and decided to leave that decision for a latter date. The young mage talked about being a practitioner in the craft of Exquipping. Allea had understood that this relied on storing weapons in pocket dimensions and retrieving them by means of magic. She had always thought this to be a magic best suited to warriors and fighters, neither of which was in her nature and as such, she had always admired those who chose to practice this combat heavy craft. The young man seemed to think her lucky to have her mother's notes to guide her in the development of her magic, an observation Allea replied with a friendly smile and a nod to indicate her own appreciation of that fact. The young Exquip mage was most forthcoming when he answered Alllea's question on the man he was chasing earlier. As he explained about his background, she found herself warming to the young man's candour. We seem to have quite a few things in common, it seems. she thought to herself silently as he talked about his father and smiled warmly at Koren to convey her understanding of the close ties between child and parent. It did not made her feel sad as she reflected on her own childhood, for it was a happy one and she could never find sadness in those happy memories. If anything, she had always been grateful for the love she'd received both from her parents and latterly from nana Jas, the old fisherman's widow who took her in as her own. Having heard Koren's story of his father, the knights, Ravens Tail and his one time master, Allea finally cast aside any last remaining shred of doubts she had ever felt. "It does sound to me those knights you were talking about are most dubious in their dealings." she finally offered. "From what little I have seen in my own personal experience with Knights, I am afraid I share the same doubts and suspicions as you do." she said solemnly. "Well, Koren," she called out to him with a wide beaming smile. "It is indeed a nice thing to have bumped into you today. We do share a lot in common. It would be an honour to have you accompany me on my little search." she said as her smile made her emerald eyes squint into a pair of cheerful arcs of lashes as she decided the young man was someone she could trust. Allea was about to tell the Exquip mage about her own grandfather when Koren's attention was suddenly drawn to a newly painted shophouse. It wasn't until he mentioned the bakery that used to be there that Allea remembered the place. "Oh yes, now that you've mentioned it, I remember that, too! The bakery had the crustiest butter bread! I remember always begging my mother to get me a fruit tart." Allea said cheerfully as she recalled the daily visits she and her mother would make to the place which was no more than a stone's throw from their old apartment. Excited by the prospect of finally finding her old home, she failed to notice the darting shadows lurking behind the shut windows. Edited by Allura, Feb 4 2012, 06:39 PM.

So she had something in a common with him. The knights...ah, so she too, had something to do with them. Koren wonder what it was all about. Was she hiding a dangerous secret? Had she done something wrong in her past life that made her a target by them? She didn't seem like the kind of girl to do something bad. She was far too young for that. ''Well, I don't regret it either, except for the not polite part of it. It seems their was nothing to do about it anyway. Dubious in their dealings...yes, that would be the right description about them. I don't really like when someone abuse their authority just because they are too blind to get the whole picture. I think it wasn't fair that they threaded my dad friends like that...'' Whatever he was working on, I'm sure father had his reason. I heard lots of stuff about Raven Tail...bad stuff more then anything. I hope that in the end, my father end up doing the right thing. Theirs only one way to find out. And that was to find a another set of clue. It seems they were getting close to her old apartment now. She was enthusiastic has ever and it was contagious, has Koren was filled with positive energy. After turning a corner they found out an old lady behind a stand. A reveal your destiny sign was painted over a poorly maintained stand. She was old, are squinted eye darting around her, like she was seeing things other can't. She was draped in a grey robe. Her hair weir similar in colour and she almost blinded in with the wall of the house behind her. ''I got a question for you, Allea. I told you much about my past and I have to admit, I'm a little curious about yours. But if your not ready to tell me about it, I can understand. We've only just met after all. Just saying, I have no link with the knight anymore. At least I think.'' ''You!'' said a strong, rough voice. Koren watched around, only to spot the old woman who was pointing at him. ''Yes you you you. Come here. You have a lot of question. Madame Mordia can help you with those. You want to know if you will find love? I can tell you. You want to know which guild your destined to be with? I can tell you...Madam Mordia know everything about your future. A special price for you...give me one of your donuts...'' Koren was taken aback by that. How did that old woman knew about his donuts? or any of his sweets for that matter. Yet, Koren felt a little skeptic about this old woman...anyhow, he was now searching in his belt bag for one of his donuts. Freshly made of the day. The old woman quickly grab it, looking at it with a suspisious eye before tucking it away inside a pocket of her robe. ''Yes yes. Now, look into Madam Mordia's eyes. Yes good good.'' Koren stared in her eye's, feeling a little ridiculous. ''Yes yes...I can see now.'' Her grey eye's turn almost milky white while she was saying her words. ''You...you are looking for your father ain't you. A great mage and obsess by an enchantment. His magic yes. I can see him trying to find an ancient spell. Forbidden yes. Others have try before, but have failed. Grey birds who pretend to be friend. Yes, others have failed. Burn by the fire of light and darkness. Yes yes. They will be back of course. In due time. Shall you be the one who will stop them? Much depend on your action. Your path is clear. Yes yes.'' she said while closing her eyes. She appeared to be tired. ''All the answer will come in time. Look into her house.'' she mumbled while pointing at Allea. ''Now Madam Mordia will rest. Yes yes.'' and she dozed off on her chair. ''Interesting.'' was all Koren could muster. |

The old bakery that was no longer operating brought a flood of old buried memories back to the fore. How could I have forgotten so easily? Allea thought to herself as she recalled the daily trips she and her mother would make to get fresh bread from the shop. She was too young to notice the furtive looks on her mother that often accompanied them on the short trip, remembering only the loving smiles her mother would often return her whenever she asked to have a fruit tart. The imagery helped her recall the steps she took back then with her tiny feet which she now covered in no time. "I remember now, we used to come round from that corner." Allea said, as she was filled by both a sense of excited anticipation and apprehension. What if there was nothing to be found? Would the old home even be there? What if it was all a dead-end? The questions and doubts came fast and strong as a tidal wave of emotions overwhelmed her young mind with conflicting thoughts. She resolved to remain positive and led the way with great excitement. As they turned the corner retracing innocent steps of yore, Koren was asking about her own past when they were interrupted by an old voice, shouting at them from her makeshift fortune telling kiosk. Allea had never understood the soothsayers. Discounting the charlatans, most fell between the divide between mage and everyday men, not quite one nor the other. The old grey woman calling out to Koren appeared to be the genuine article judging by Koren's reactions, particularly when she asked for his private stash of donuts which he had inside his belt bag. Allea watched with bemusement as the young mage and the grey woman began to stare at each other at the latter's behest, holding back her desperate urge to giggle at the comical stare-off between mage n fortune teller. When Mordia finally spoke, what she said about Koren's father intrigued Allea while the whole business of seeking ancient magic and light and darkness did make her feel a slight unease. But being the kind of person she was, Allea would not pass judgment on what was revealed and argued that the woman may turn out to be just another fraud who made up such tales for dramatic effect. Besides, she could always ask Koren herself if even half of what Mordia had said was indeed true. After all. If anyone should know the truth about their parent, it should be the young man himself. The last revelation came out of the blue and disarmed her, coming as a total surprise to Allea. All the answer will come in time. Look into her house. Mordia said as she pointed her wrinkled finger at her. "My house?" the young girl repeated in surprise and looked to Koren with puzzlement. "Do you mean my present home? Or..." she hesitated momentarily as she tried to understand which home the old woman was referring to. "Oh, does she mean my old home here in Coreopsis?" Allea asked, her question meant more for Koren than the old woman who by now had retreated into the greyness of her booth to savour the fruit of her day's work. Not wishing to disturb the fortune teller for fear she would ask for more donuts that she did not have, Allea decided to accept what was said as meant and looked around the area in earnest.. "Erm, well..." Allea muttered as she looked up at the top floors of the building around the immediate vicinity before recognising a dormer window jutting out from the slanting yellow roof of one of the houses. Recognising the feature, she pointed at the house across from the dormer window. "That's it! That's where we used to live!" |
