Private Thread Eyes closed, mouth open, Ekerd received quite a few stares as he made a rather exaggerated yawn. He was strolling through the park with nothing to do, and it annoyed him to no end. Earlier he had been out searching for interesting insects, but he had no luck so he was already in a foul mood. Then, before lunch, he tripped and tore up his shorts. It was not a good day. He just needed something simple and mildly entertaining to take his mind off of it. Mid step, he noticed something shiny and white from the corner of his eye. Turning to see what it was, he noticed a ball stuck in a bush a bit off from the path. Ekerd strolled over to the ball and picked it up. He glanced around to see if it belonged to anyone nearby, but no one seemed to take any notice of it. "Hmmmm, I guess this could be fun." It didn't take long for him to be running around the park, dribbling the ball as he went. He hadn't played soccer in quite some time, and he had forgotten how fun it was. For awhile he was quite content to just kick it around, but after ten to twenty minutes, he was starting to lose interest. He got a drink from a nearby fountain and took a seat on a bench. Just dribbling wasn't much fun so he needed to find something else to do. After a quick survey of the park, he noticed a pair of trees that seemed perfectly spaced to act as goal posts. "Oh this should be good." He jogged over towards the trees and took a shot. He missed by quite a bit. He was still at an age where he lacked proper coordination, so shots were not his strong point. Quickly, he ran after the ball and brought it back. Positioning the ball about ten feet from the goal, he kicked it as hard as he could, and sent it flying right between the trees. "Gooooooaaaaaaaaaalllllllll, and the crowd goes wild!" he yelled to his surroundings. After a few moments of broadcasting his feats, he jogged after the ball and brought it back. Now, even shooting on this makeshift goal post was starting to lose his interest. Soccer was a game for multiple people, and without anyone to play with, Ekerd lost his enthusiasm quite quickly. As a last hope of entertainment, Ekerd punted the ball high into the air and watched as is landed smack dab in the center of the fountain. It gave him a laugh or two, but it wasn't quite "fun". After a moments rest, he started after the ball. |

Joru set his heavy backpack down on the grass, falling onto his knees and catching his breath. He had been hiking cross-country for a good six months now, and the closer and closer to the capitol that he reached, he noticed that magic was both more prevalent and used in greater skill. ' Jeez, I have to be getting close to some sort of magic academy or something. All these mages couldn't have trained themselves in their respective magics alone, its really difficult...' Rolling over and laying on his back momentarily, the inexperienced wannabe mage stared at the clouds and sighed. The park was fairly empty, minus a boy who was playing soccer by himself, kicking the ball around and looking as if he was pretending there was a large crowd cheering him on. Joru smiled as he saw this, remembering the years in which he did similar activities, void of friends and in solitude so he wouldn't run into any bullies. Deciding he could use a little active exercise and a break from the strenuously boring act of cross-country hiking, he walked stood up and cracked his back, stretching his limbs out before approaching the boy. The boy was a smaller then Joru, and as he got a better look at him, likely 10 years younger than himself. Just what a boy this age was doing out on his own with no supervision was completely beyond Joru, yet he was not so worried as he noticed the park was very low-key and calm. Knowing how scared a young boy might be of strangers, Joru tried to approach in the most harmless and friendly way he could imagine. " You there! I challenge you! Accept! Lets do this! I will crush you!" Knowing full well that his first impressions and general demeanor always came off the way he intended, he figured the boy would likely be overjoyed by his friendly attitude and that they would likely become the greatest of friends. ' There is no way that I could possibly look creepy after an introduction like that! Excelled!' |

With both hands in his pockets, Virgil quietly walked into the park with a weary expression on his face. For the past several days, he had been passing numerous towns, helping people by doing simple tasks like delivering simple messages, helping people find missing possessions. That sort of stuff. He lent his hand wherever he could, as long as he knew he knew how to. It was a nice kind of job, assisting anyone who did not have the power to do something alone. There were no rewards of any sort, but Virgil did not need to have any kind of prize in exchange for his work. All he needed was the smiles of people he made happy with his own power to go on. Oddly enough, for the past few days, the demand for his help had increased each day from the number of people that came to him when he advertised to offer his help for free. He didn't reject any request, seeing as he himself had advertised it, he had no right to deny any in his opinion. Due to that reason, he overworked himself to the fullest every day in every town he stayed in until all his jobs were done. It was difficult, backbreaking, inhumane. Virgil himself was baffled as to how he accomplished all the jobs he's done so far. Today though, was going to be different. Today, he wanted to spend the whole day took a long break and put work on hold for a little while. Virgil had worked non-stop for who knows how long. He lost track of time halfway through and stopped caring about how many days flew by. However, just for one day, he felt like he deserved to take a little time off to regain his strength so that tomorrow, he would manage perform at tip-top shape once again. And what better way to do that then to spend a day at a peaceful park, where there was nothing to be heard except for the sound of the birds singing, and a feint light breeze flowing throughout the whole area. Virgil wanted to spend his day off somewhere cool, and serene. Somewhere he could not be bothered, and had all the time to himself alone to be calm, and at peace. He waltzed over to the closest bench in the park he could find, using it as a bed and laid himself on it, treating it as if it was his own. As he he did so, he began to close his eyes to enjoy some shut eye when out of the blue, he heard a shout that broke the tranquillity in the park. It made Virgil sit up on the bench, and look around to see where it came from. It didn't take long before he saw the cause of the disturbance. Virgil knew it was them, as they only were the two people in the park, excluding him. They were at the nearby fountain, just in front of him having a conversation. It was a dark-haired man, probably the same age as Virgil, and a little brown haired kid making all the racket. It didn't annoy the blond haired man, but he did want to tell the both of them if they could keep the noise down to a minimum to enjoy his afternoon nap. So Virgil stood up from the bench and walked over to the fountain to see what the fuss was about, and tell them to turn it down a notch. |

Ekerd jogged slightly towards the fountain, a soft breeze cooling him down as he went. After a few moments he reached the fountain and plucked the ball from the cold water. Ekerd spun the ball around on the palm of his hands, slowly drying it off. Next, Ekerd reached into the water to splash some on his face when he saw someones reflection in the water behind him. Ekerd jerked around in surprise seeing a young man with dark hair and bushy eye brows. The man blurted out something about a challenge then went on to say he would crush Ekerd. "W-what are you talking about?" Ekerd's voice quivered as he mentioned these words. He had had several bullies in the past, but it was mostly verbal abuse. he had never had someone tell him that they were going to crush him. Ekerd prepared to run from the man looking out towards an open section of the aprk where he could run without hassle. As Ekerd looked out over the park, he saw another young man walking towards him. He was probably about the same age as the man next to him, but held a much more refined demeanor. He had blonde hair and was much taller than Ekerd. Without thinking, Ekerd ran to the man in a panic falling to his knees in front of him, "Help help! Bushy Eye Brows wants to crush me for no reason! I didn't even do anything!" His mind was racing at lightning speed, and then he thought of something. These two appeared to be about the same age, so what if they were friends? This seemed like a very likely situation as the man was walking towards the other young man before Ekerd had run to him. "Ut-oh, you're both trying to beat me up!" In a panic, Ekerd threw the ball at blondey and ran away as fast as he could. It took a few moments for him to trip over a bush and fall in head first. He sat their, legs sticking out from the top of the bush waiting for his beating that he knew would come. |

The boy turned and fled from him, obviously too scared of his own awesomeness. ' Jeez, I politely challenge him to a friendly competition and he reacts like this? What a twerp.' " Punk! Why do you run? I'll give you some candy! Kids like candy right? I'm sure I got some candy back behind that old dumpster! Come on its free candy! Then I can destroy you! Accept the challenge!" ' Hell yeah, little kids love candy. We'll be great friends in no time at all.' Running after the kid, he noticed another figure approaching from the fountain area, and possibly the only other person at the park. ' Oh no, it looks like a stranger. Little kids hate strangers, they are always kidnapping them and what not.' Not surprised to see the kid take off in another direction, Joru continued to follow hastily. ' The kid is not too quick, and slightly clumsy.' Falling on his face in some bushes, it seemed the boy was no longer wanting to run, and that Joru could finally catch up to him. " Finally, I've got you! There is no escape from this challenge! The rules of being a man prohibit this! They also prohibit me giving you candy, but after accepting my challenge we may overlook that!" ' Damn I'm great with kids. I'm going to make an excellent father some day, and those kids will be lucky to have me.' Figuring the stranger would not want to mess with the boy whilst the boy was under his protection, Joru figured they could use the man as an all-time goalie while they switched sides and played half-field. " You there, stranger in the distance! You will play goalie for us! You will stand by idly while I CRUSH this child!" ' Excellent.' Sticking his hand out to help the kid off the ground, Joru had a strange suspicion that the kid was going to try to run once more. ' I don't understand, I've been polite, I've offered him candy, I'm gonna help him get better at soccer...' He could not imagine any other situation in which a child would act so strange in response to such a sweet deal being proposed. As far as Joru was concerned, he was approaching this situation as best he could. ' Maybe the kid is suffering from a heat stroke. We'll see, I might need to yank his shirt off him. Goddamn I sure am thoughtful.' |

[ooc: This post is a little silly and is just to wrap up the storyline. Jedi seems to have rage quit the site and due to this, Virgil doesn't want to post.] Ekerd was shivering with fear in the bush. He was so sure that he was going to get beat up, then suddenly the man was behind him. Ekerd was preparing for the worst whilst the man spouted more nonsense about his challenge and candy giving. Suddenly, the Black haired man yelled at the blonde man, something about playing as goalie. What is this nut job talking about? The man continued to reach out towards Ekerd, apparently offering to help him up, this confused Ekerd. After staring up at him for a moment, Ekerd blinked and suddenly the man had vanished! "What the hell? Where did he just go? As if in a dream, someone had just vanished in front of Ekerd. Had there really been another man or was Ekerd just imagined it? Ekerd was going to give up on this thought when suddenly he knew who he could ask, the blonde man! Turning towards where he had last seen him, Ekerd saw exactly who he was looking for. The blonde man had slowly been approaching this whole time. "Hey, come here, something weird just happened and I wanted to ask you a question" After uttering the phrase, Ekerd once again blinked and poof, the man was gone. "Oh my god, not again!" Was he going crazy? Not once, but twice had a person disappeared in front of him. This was definitely not an everyday occurrence. People don't just walk around then suddenly vanish. Either, something crazy is going on in the world around him, or Ekerd was crazy himself. Just to make sure he hadn't missed anything, he wandered around the park. The first place he checked was the bush he had been in. It was somewhat large and could potentially hide a man. He parted the leaves and looked down but saw nothing. Next he checked under the bush, just in case he had missed something the first time. Nothing was hidden in the bush. The next location to check were the trees. There were about six of them spread throughout the park, and anyone of them was big enough to hide a man or two, so Ekerd had his work cut out for him. He went from tree to tree, climbing each one to the top. The first tree was empty. Likewise, the second, third, fourth, and fifth were empty. Ekerd looked up at the sixth tree. It was a towering pine tree, well over 100 years old. The ground around the tree was littered with browned pine needles. Ekerd reached out to the lowest branch and his arm recoiled almost immediately. He had touched something sticky and it grossed him out. The sap was thick and yellowish and was getting on everything. he had wiped his hands on his cloths and spread it all over but to no avail. Now he just had sticky hands and cloths. After a moment he decided to just ignore it and climb the tree anyway. It took a few minutes to reach the top, and once there, he found nothing. What he did receive was a perfect view of the park, and thats when he noticed some movement. "Ah-hah! There you are!" He had seen a shadow run towards the fountain. Ekerd slid down from branch to branch getting scratched and caked with sap. He paid it no heed and continued down. About 5 feet from the ground, he jumped down and took off running. Within moments he was upon the fountain. Instead of going around to confront the person, he hopped right into the water and waded across. The water was cold, but did end up washing away some of the goo from the tree. As he reached the edge of the fountain and peeked over to see the figure, "So this is whe-..." Ekerd was interrupted by the man mid sentence. "Nope, it's just Chuck Testa." Crouched down behind the fountain was was an older man, probably around 50 years of age. He had a scruffy white beard and wore a pair of sunglasses. He also wore a baseball cap, an olive green t-shirt and a pair of jeans. What was this man doing here and why was he hiding? Ekerd was more confused than ever, and was on the brink of tears. Had he really imagined the two guys? And if not, where had they gone? "Wh-wh-why can't I find them!" he yelled as tears began streaming down his cheeks. After one last quick glance around the park, he gave up. If he couldn't find them after all of this searching, then they were gone. After sitting for a few minutes, he wiped away his tears and proceeded towards the exit. As soon as he got home, he went straight to bed. The day had exhausted him, and now with his potential craziness, he didn't want to think, so he slept. Edited by K1ng, Sep 22 2011, 04:08 AM.

it's a shame this thread had to end like this, because if it'd kept up with that post length for a few more pages it would have drawn a decent reward. Unfortunately, 6 (good) posts between 3 people only get you: 100,000 Jewels each |
