Huh, this Alphie was an odd girl. Seeing the indecision run across her face Malcolm could tell that she was apprehensive about sharing her name. Who was she to walk up to two strangers and ask for their help without offering a name? Was no one in this place with a modicum of civility? Parents losing their children, not looking where one is sitting, demanding help –not like Mal would have refused though- without being polite. Mal sighed at what he’d gotten himself into. It would only lead to trouble but at least there was a rather pleasant girl involved, whom he wasn’t the least bit upset with when she sat on him. His eyes were on her reading her. There was something off about the intensity of her reactions, something that he remembered from somewhere that wasn’t clicking just at the moment. She was a rather socially awkward person saying that she couldn’t pay him back, for what? Sigh… at least he knew her name: Calista, what a sweet name. They knew what the child was wearing, but that still wasn’t enough to go off of. Calista was setting a rather quick pace back to the parents like a woman on a mission. She’d even beat Mal there and he’d started first. He should have known it was going to get interesting. The atmosphere was just too heavy for something not to happen, especially when Calista started to grill them and lost control after 2 questions. The child’s name was another good thing to know but it didn’t help the current situation. Mal could no longer hear the parents bickering but their lips were moving, he could care less what they had to say. If anything it was them who should have shut up and paid attention to Calista. Her lips moved and the quietest plea for them ceasing their argument escaped them which fell immediately on deaf ears, again she spoke this time her hands shaking, not like a leaf but like a volcano about to erupt. Mal took a step forward with a hand outstretched to stop the inevitable but it was futile. Her shout surprised him to flinch and her open hand came up to greet the woman’s face with a resounding smack. “Holy crow.” Mal raised his eyebrows as the seemingly docile delicate girl swung a closed fist right into the man’s jaw stunning him for a moment “Calista…” Her name was barley a whisper off his lips and he knew that look, that righteous indignation, the look of loss and the look of desperation. His brother wore that same look that night. Calista… what happened to you girl…, but Mal was taken aback by Calista’s wrathful words, these parents had earned her ire in every way. However words started to become her own story melding with theirs, full of grief and blame and regret. What have I gotten myself into… Mal looked down at the parents from the edge of his nose and marveled at how small they were. He sighed and chased after Calista who was calling for the lost boy Kisho. He gestured to Alphie to leave the parents to stew in their own filth. The child would probably be turned over to the proper authorities when he was found and those parents would be dealt with accordingly. From where they’d thought he was it was better than having no leads at all. Mal ran to catch up to Calista hoping that Alphie would follow. She was still calling for the boy so she was rather easy to find. “Calista! Calista wait!” He caught up to her and was barely breathing hard. “We need to check out those two places and look for clues. I know you’re upset but if you want to find this kid we have to get our heads on straight. Okay?” Mal put a light hand on her shoulder looking her down with his ever-calm blue eyes. “You know the stakes…” Mal paused but it was too late if she could read into that then she knew he knew a little more about her then Mal should. He continued quickly, “Now where do you think that child would go first if left to wander on a day like this? We can’t assume anything two extreme, let’s just try to find him instead of dwelling on what could or might be.” Mal looked up at Alphie taking his hand off of Calista, “You game?” |

Calista had a few ideals where the child might be. She wasn’t sure exactly, but there were a few things about kids that could be noted. It was times like these, that Calista was thankful for her overactive brain. Children liked things that stood out. They would naturally be drawn to the color red and loud objects. Other people could also gain their attention. Children never wandered aimlessly but their rather simplistic minds had a goal. Goals such as finding out what was inside of something, or looking at an object. Something with an incentive. Calista was looking for such objects when the man from before approached. Her face got a little red from embarrassment. She knew she had overreacted and that they all probably thought she was some psychotic person now. It wasn’t as if she cared too much of what they thought, but even she could burn red when she did something like… well like she just did. People shied away from those like her. Unpredictable. We need to check out those two places and look for clues. I know you’re upset but if you want to find this kid we have to get our heads on straight. Okay?” Spoke the man, causing the tall blonde to look back down at her feet nervously. She hadn’t been thinking like she should have. Anger was something she rarely wasted time on and that was precisely why. When someone was angry they did not think as clearly. Calista took his advice and took a deep breath, calming herself so she could focus clearly and efficiently. “Now where do you think that child would go first if left to wander on a day like this? We can’t assume anything two extreme, let’s just try to find him instead of dwelling on what could or might be.” Calista said nothing at first. She shut her eyes and folded her arms, beginning a basic process to solving this problem in her head. IT was her basic strategy and she ran it through her mind quickly. She had three steps she used. The first, was thinking of basic needs. Right now, Calista did not have any. She was not tired nor was she hungry or any other such impasses. Second was to solve what the short term goal was. Focus on it and what needed to be done. This was finding the child. The third was what to do with the child after they found him. This would be decided later and might change based on variables. To find the child, they needed to think of where he would go. He was a boy, young, and had two parents who fought constantly. He was probably striving for attention and would do anything for it. Something large and flashy would catch his eye. There wasn’t anything like that really around here. The most interesting thing to a child was probably water. There were a few fountains around here that he could get his attention stolen by. But, it was not like a child to wander around aimlessly like an adult would. They would have to have a motive. Calista looked back to the swings. Once again she said nothing, not wanting to disturb her thought process. She walked with stead steps over there and sat down in one of the swings. The male and female might think of her as even more bizarre now, but she could care less. She looked around her, as if waiting for something to catch her attention. There was nothing really big. Calista turned to the foundation the parents were at. There was nothing around there to catch her attention either. The traffic on the road was mostly going to the left. She looked down the road and decided that if something had happened to catch the Child's attention it would most likely be in that direction. “Water. There are other fountains in this park. If we go down the road to the left, well come across another. He got distracted, so we will look for distractions. He is also somewhere that he can most likely not figure his way back to this spot. So he must have been in a crowd at one point. It is a safe bet if we stick to the road for a while, and look for anything large or distracting along the way.”Calista surmised. It was something unique about her. She was somewhat of a genius. Able to consider multiple possibilities and notice details in a short amount of time, she had an IQ of... well, more than she would admit to people lest they expect things out of her. As all smart people went though, there was something wrong with her. In her case, it was her lazy cowardice and lack of color coordination. |
