I had a huge(ish) post typed up for this, but then I realized there was a much easier way to get the same point across: This poll is biased because of the wording (not that I actually care or think it was done on purpose etc etc, but it threw me for a head spin so I thought I'd mention it xP) Option A (in my opinion) would fall under this definition of respect: "A feeling of [deep] admiration for someone or something elicited by their abilities, qualities, or achievements" Option B (also in my opinion) would be referring to this definition of respect: "Due regard for the feelings, wishes, rights, or traditions of others" Since the poll infers that by agreeing with one you disagree with the other, then of course everyone will opt for option B. Which would mean that then they deeply admire everyone they meet until given a reason not to. Since that is obviously not true, therein lies the flaw with this poll (or at least the wording of it) For the record, I voted for Option 1 as I see Option 2 as a glorified version of common decency and not so much as respect per say (at least, not when compared with Option 1). However, I also agree that everyone is entitled to at least the bare minimum in politeness, courtesy etc. But anything more than that has to be earned. Hope that made sense. lol |

I don't particularly like the two options, as many have said; respect is more shades of grey than this. As humans everyone to me has a certainly basic level of respect, as has been said, this to me at least seems more like common decency. As for losing respect...it takes quite a lot for me to withdraw that basic level of respect, everyone has hardships and secret battles and on any one day might be a real jerk. Of course, if someone constantly doesn't show respect to me and others, I won't show it to them either. Then of course a 'deep' respect I suppose has to be earned. |

^ That's me as well. As for the poll, yes it is a bit limiting as I do not feel either of those options are sufficient for me to cast a vote, nor do I think that I can not vote for either, so I do vote for 'more options' :P As for the idea of respecting others as I am respected I trust I start at 0 for them as well; 0 gets everyone a decent level of tolerance and a general amount of respect without fine-tuning the number for them and their actions towards me. |
