As the knights went to work Kain gave them the space they needed as Gale now approached him, asking a flurry of questions…Gale really liked to talk, at least that’s how to it seemed to Kain. He considered giving a fake name, but then he’d need to keep it up with Stella…and being the only half demon in Fairy Tail made it hard to keep a low profile anyway while in Magnolia, so decided against it. “…Kain. If you’re a wind mage then…I suppose I’m a shadow mage. Amuse me; tell me why you think I have dog ears.” He didn’t mean to be so abrasive…entirely at least, even if the amount of questions the wind mage asked at once put Kain off, but his shoulder wound was still bleeding and quite painful, which wasn’t helping his mood any. “Tch…” he said, looking down at the wound, “I suppose I should be lucky it didn’t hit an artery, or wasn’t a bit lower and to the side…” his voice trailing off as he closed his eyes, breathing deeply. As he did so the wound stopped bleeding, and then before the eyes of anyone watching, the wound began to close at a rapid rate, Kain snarling slightly and rolling his shoulder as it happened, the sensation not painful, but very uncomfortable. When Kain opened his eyes again, the wound was still present, but, much smaller than before, had stopped bleeding, and was well on its way to recovery. Retrieving his discarded backpack and great sword he continued to talk to Gale as he got dressed, replacing the clothes that his rapid transformation had destroyed from the plentiful supply he kept on him for just this reason. “What I did just then might be a hint, though, if you guess I’d be truly impressed,” the half demon said in a slightly better mood now that he wasn’t bleeding and half naked, a hint of a smirk on his face, his lengthened canines visible as his tail subconscious wagged slowly behind him. Fenrir’s one and a half ears twitched as he heard the knights leaving, which means they were done with Stella then, turning to face her. He sighed slightly…dealing with emotions was far from his strong point, and while death didn’t faze him anymore, which was probably rather sad considering his age, actually killing someone was still very different, and Stella clearly wasn’t taking it well, so he couldn’t just leave her even if he didn’t know what to do. Stella was back in her normal clothes, which combined with the levitating sword made it almost certain she was an exquip mage or something similar, as Kain walked over to her. He spoke softly, not wishing to shock her more, somewhat nervous himself, his ears drooping and his tail low, not sure what to do, “h-hey…how are you..?” Fenrir paused for a moment, again lost as how to proceed, “l-look…it was self-defence…okay? This isn’t your fault.” [OOC: Kuon Eisou, 2/2 cool down; Fenrir’s Fang, 1/2 cool down; Demonic Resistance used.] Edited by Cloud, Apr 19 2011, 01:39 AM.

“…Kain. If you’re a wind mage then…I suppose I’m a shadow mage. Amuse me; tell me why you think I have dog ears.” "Hmm... so his name is Kain then. Well since he just said he was a shadow mage, then I guess the ears are because he is some sort of a hybrid? If not then is it because of some magical experiment?" Even though Gale had not shown it, the way the Shadow mage had reacted to his questions had stung. He had never really got to know a lot of people for a long time, and if there was anything he hated almost as much as his family, it was statements like these, which actually weren't that surprising considering that Kain had Zan'ei stuck in his shoulder just a little while ago. As Gale was thinking to himself, out of the corner of his eye he saw Kain say something about the wound, when Gale's eyes widened in amazement. The wound was healing at an incredible pace right before his very eyes, and he was certainly fascinated by the process. “What I did just then might be a hint, though, if you guess I’d be truly impressed,” Snapping out of his vacant stare as he was pondering how it would have been possible for a wound like that to heal that fast, Gale found that Kain had recovered his backpack and oversized sword, and that he was in a much better mood now, the fact that he was now fully dressed probably contributing to that factor. "Well considering the fact that the wound just freakin' healed itself right in front of my eyes, which I must say is amazing, you are probably a human-demon hybrid or something?" Gale smiled at his guess, which he thought was probably right. The sound of fading footsteps and the clanking of metal suggested that the knights had finished with their interrogation and body examination, and when Gale looked around, he found that he was right. The fight was over, yet this would possibly be the hardest event of all. Walking towards Stella who had exchanged the armor for her normal clothes, it was certain that she was probably an ex-equip mage or something similar. Kain had reached her first, and it was evident that he was not really good at dealing with emotions. Kind of like a dog, Kain's ears were drooping and his tail was between his legs, and he was talking very softly to Stella, trying to comfort her. “H-hey…how are you..?” Kain paused, obviously unsure of how to proceed after that., “L-look…it was self-defence…okay? This isn’t your fault.” "Nobody can help it." Gale thought, "Often you have to take a life to protect another or more. It has been like this since we have started fighting and it will always be in armed conflicts. That is exactly why I became a mage, to protect people instead of killing for profit." Walking towards the two, he voiced his own thoughts. "If he had won, you would have probably been sent back home, whatever your past is. After that, he would have probably continued on doing the same thing and would have probably killed a lot more people. Taking a life to save more, while this isn't a bad deal to me, it still wasn't our fault. It was completely self defense for you, so stop blaming it all on yourself." |

Looking up from the ground as Kain’s voice sounded out Stella looked him and smiled meekly, “Yeah I know….I’m alright….” Her voice trailed off as she spoke and gave no real confidence in her words, it was then as she was looking at him that she noticed the ears sitting atop of his head. She looked for a moment before honestly saying the first the first thing that popped to mind, pointing to his ears in a way as if to say ‘do you know they are there’ Stella was calm in her speech. “Did you’re takeover malfunction or something?” Gale the wind mage that had introduced himself earlier at a rather awkward time began to speak up and Stella found herself too busy looking at the ears atop Kain’s head to turn her attention to him, she was listening but she found something about the cute little dog like ears simply adorable. Fighting the urge to poke them as they twitched slightly Stella’s gaze was caught by something moving, looking down she noticed the tail moving slightly and smiled while trying to hold in a small ‘awwww’. She couldn’t help but think that it was rather cute, it took her a moment to realise that Gale had stopped speaking but Stella finally turned to look at him and replied. “Yeah I know, it’s just strange….I never thought I would HAVE to take someone’s life….” It was then that Stella actually realised that the two people standing before her were strangers that had aided her when she needed it, how on earth could she repay them for something that truly couldn’t be repaid? “I want to thank-you for helping me, but I don’t have much other than money to give you…and its not really even enough to give as a reward. How about I buy you both something to eat at least?” Stella wasn’t used to not having much money, she didn’t mind it though as truthfully she never really spent a great deal however it was times like these that she almost kind of missed it. Suddenly remembering that Kain had been injured in the battle Stella’s eyes widened and she stepped forward placing her hand gently where the wound should have been, her eyes showed her confusion as for what she could see there didn’t seem to any bleeding from it on the shirt at all. Surely a wound such as that would bleed far more then that…wouldn’t it? “Where did it….” Blushing as she realised she had just reached out and violated the man’s personal space Stella quickly brought her hand back to her side, “I’m sorry it’s just…weren’t you hurt?” |

Before getting to Stella he looked at Gale surprised, his head tilted to the side. “Uh…yeah, that’s right…most people assume werewolf, so…well done,” he said still a bit shocked. Most people just assumed demons and humans couldn’t have children, and as far as Kain knew it was a pretty rare event, so Gale must be more knowledgeable then he appeared. Listening to Stella’s reply, while her voice was lacking confidence, it seemed she was calm, even managing a small smile. She pointed out his ears, which almost as if on cue they twitched just before Kain answered her question, “Oh…aaah, not exactly…” his voice trailing off, not sure how she’d take the fact he was part demon, mages normally had better reactions then most people, still, it was impossible to tell, though Gale spoke up that point. Kain glanced at Gale as he talked before looking back at Stella, not sure whether to try and shut him up or not…though most of what he was saying was okay, and at least he could manage to say something without stuttering which was more than Kain could manage. Despite being spoken to by Gale, she continued to look at Kain…or more accurately following where she was looking his ears, which the half demon decided was a better reaction then most, being interesting or curious in his less than human features was always better to Kain than the alternative of fearing them, Stella even smiling as her eyes drifted down, probably spotting the tail that almost always seemed to be in motion on its own accord, before the girl noticed Gale had finished and spoke up again, offering to buy them a meal. “That sounds like a great idea…provided you let me pay for you then,” Kain said with a smile. He didn't have a lot of money, but, doing missions as a member of Fairy Tail meant he was never short either...which was a nice change from a few weeks ago. A faint blush crossed Kain's cheeks as Stella moved closer and touched his shoulder, before whining slightly from pain and realising she was just looking for the wound he had received moments earlier. Grabbing the collar of his somewhat oversized shirt he pulled it down to reveal his shoulder, which still had a wound, albeit noticeable smaller than it should have been from the sword injury, and no longer bleeding, smeared and dried blood still around the wound and down what was visible of his chest. “I was, still am somewhat, but it should heal up fine, another part of my magic. I can explain it and the ears and tail over food if you’re curious,” he said friendly, smiling. “Any place in particular you’d like to eat? I truly don’t mind, I’ll eat just about anything.” [OOC: Fenrir’s Fang, 2/2 cool down; Demonic Resistance, 1/5 cool down.] Edited by Cloud, Apr 26 2011, 05:02 PM.

Gale had been speaking to Stella with the aim of comforting her, but it was really obvious to him that he was just about being ignored outright with Kains ever-present ears and tail there distracting her. More than that, Stella was completely enthralled by the ears and the tails, and while Gale barely heard it, he was sure that he had heard a tiny 'awwww' escape from Stella as she was watching the little dog ears. "Ah well, I guess this turned out alright thanks to the mighty powers Kains ears and tail, even thought it is kind of annoying that I was ignored. I guess as long as we are all alright it's going to be okay." Hearing Stella offer to serve them to a meal Gale was about to politely decline the offer when his stomach suddenly grumbled at that exact moment. Blushing slightly for one of the few times in his life so far, Gale inwardly cursed at his stomach, saying "Why did you have to grumble at this moment! I know that I had planned to get a late breakfast and had sidetracked by the fight, but you didn't have to announce to the whole wide world that you're hungry now!" Still blushing Gale had noticed that Kain had offered to serve them instead. While normally Gale would refuse an offer like this or offer to pay for the meal himself, he did not have a lot of money on him right now and could really only accept unless he wanted to embarrass himself further by trying to act as if his stomach hadn't grumbled at all. "Thanks for the offer, I would gladly some along as long as it isn't anything very expensive. And sorry for the little... umm... noise that my stomach had just made." Still having a slight blush present, Gale saw Stella notice the fact that Kains wound had almost stopped bleeding and move up to touch Kains shoulder, causing Kain to have a faint blush cross his cheeks. Then moving her hand to pull down his shirt slightly, revealing his shoulder and his mostly healed wound. Noticing her true intentions, Kain assured her that it was fine and just another part of his magic. Stating that he could explain the ears and tails over food, then asking what Gale and Stella would like to eat. "I'm fine with anything as long as it isn't too expensive. You guys can chose the place, since I'm fairly new around here." Edited by Gale, Apr 28 2011, 08:39 AM.

((OOC: OMG SORRY this is like the shortest post i have ever made T^T but i was stuck....i mean there wasn't much for me to do really. I could have gone on with a bunch of stuff but i dont like doing that since i feel it restricts what others can choose to do.)) Stella didn‘t like the idea of Kain paying for the meal after he had already helped her so much, but sensing that he wouldn’t just accept her offer to pay it all Stella opted for a different approach. “How about we share the bill? I’m not going to let you pay for everything after helping me out so much” Hearing Gale’s stomach rumble the ex-quip mage smiled at him, “haha no need to apologise, sounds like you’re hungry” Amazed by the rapidly healing wound that Kain revealed to her Stella subconsciously tilted her head slightly as she looked at it, interested in his offer to tell her about his magic over a meal she nodded her head in agreement and motioned with her hand to the trail that would lead them back to the main road. “Sounds like a deal then, and I’m not fussy about what I eat really. Did you just want to go to that small place on the outskirts of the park?” Trying her best to sound knowledgeable about the area Stella left out the fact that it was the only place she even knew of to eat in Magnolia, starting the group on their way down the trail she took the first few steps of the journey. Finding herself unable to stop looking at Kain’s ears as they twitched with every sound Stella didn’t last long in silence before speaking once more. “I’m sorry I know I said we would talk over the food but I can’t help it~” Pointing at his tail that was swishing as he walked Stella’s amethyst eyes glistened with curiosity, “I mean you must get this kind of treatment all the time but I’ve never seen a mage with a tail and ears outside of takeover. It must be a really rare magic you use right?” As the trio emerged from the wooded trail Stella could see the groups of people that had collected due to the event still walking away, several turned and pointed as they murmured amongst themselves while others simply seemed to speed up in their retreat. Flat out ignoring them Stella kept a smile on her face and childlike curiosity glistening in her eyes as she awaited Kain’s answer. |

It looked like the three were agreed that food would be a good idea, even if Gale’s stomach spoke for him, a fact that seemed to annoy the wind mage a bit. While Kain was hungry, the main advantage of this would be something to distract Stella for a while, as well as an excuse to look out for her without seeming creepy. “Sounds fair enough then…” Kain managed to say, though to him splitting the bill didn’t seem like that, she was the one that was attacked; she shouldn’t have to worry about paying. Still, pressing the issue would probably be worse he guessed as he let his shirt go, the wound being covered once more. He thought on the spot that Stella suggested, and eventually managed to remember where it was, but had never been there. While he was technically a local, that had only become fact less than a week ago, and even then, he spent a lot of time elsewhere. “Oh, I haven’t been there before, but it always smells good walking past it, so that sounds great to me,” taking a few quick steps before slowing down once he had caught up to Stella. Unsure about what to talk about, fortunately the exquip mag e gave him a topic…or perhaps unfortunately, depending on how she took the answer. While people normally continuously pointing out and looking at his ears and tail like Kain had forgotten about them but wouldn’t have the nerve to ask him about it would annoy him, unlike them Stella had no problem asking about them, and she was merely innocently curious, which made a very pleasant change. “Ah…you’d be surprised, none of my guild mates ask about them, and most other people I meet assuming their cosplay, or are too afraid to ask,” Kain began, “not that I mind you asking of course!” he quickly added in case he had accidently sounded dismissive. “As for the magic…well, I’m not sure myself, but I think it’s fairly rare, a friend of mine reckons only one to two people a generation on average have it, thought ah…I’m not sure you’d call it magic…entirely…” trailing off, sounding a little nervous now, his ears drooping slightly, still, with that look in her eyes, he couldn’t deny her an answer… “My magic is Inugami Soul, and while some of it is certainly magical in nature that I’ve had to train to learn…a lot of it is natural…in my blood so to speak… The ears, tail, healing, and even the ‘takeover’ are all traits of being a, well…half-demon. The reason my magic is so rare because I’ve never meet a human or demon that could use it… Guess it’s something only a half-caste can learn…” he said a little sadly, looking away a moment before glancing at Stella to see how she was taking the news. Offering to option of his own as Kain and Stella decided on the restaurant to eat at, which was a place that Gale had obviously not heard of, as he was most likely the newest person in the trio that had been to Magnolia. Following them obediently, aware that the three of them were attracting a lot of attention from nearby pedestrians with Kains wolf-like features and the small patches of blood stains that Gale had acquired when he was recovering his thrown weapons from the corpse of the now-dead fire mage. Pretending to listen intently on Kains description of his magic and his origins, he instead was waging a war inside of him with thoughts. Why did you have to kill him Stella? Why? With us three working together we most likely could have just subdued him or tired him out, then we could have tied him up and handed him over to the knights. Well I guess I did have the intention to kill him too and Stella didn't kill the 'wrestler' on purpose. His thoughts in turmoil, Gale suddenly remembered his question to Stella that had gone unanswered and he had almost forgotten. Tapping her lightly on her shoulder after she was done having a brief exchange with Kain, he once again asked the question that had been dropped the first time. "So Stella, why exactly did that fire mage attack you? What did your family and seemingly your father in particular have to do with this? It's okay if you prefer not to answer though, as I myself have a fair amount of past events associated with me family." Slightly afraid that he might have touched a sensitive topic, Gale averted his eyes slightly and waited silently for Stella to choose wether she would want to answer that question or not. Stella listened to Kain intently as he went on about his magic, she truly was interested in why he had the ears and tail not to mention about the magic that he must have been using. Her eyes stayed on him as he spoke and glistened with curiosity and intrigue as he spoke of only a few in generations having the magic, it really sounded rare compared to her own magic of Ex-quip. Stella’s face became slightly confused as Kain mentioned demon’s and the like, her amethyst eyes showed the fact that she didn’t really know much on the subject. Sensing Kain was a bit down about the whole being a half demon thing Stella didn’t hesitate to cheer him up, reaching out playfully and messing his hair Stella pointed to the tip of the ear closest to her. “If being a half demon meant I could have such cool magic I wouldn’t be embarrassed about it, besides how many people have cute ears a cool as tail hmm?” Stella smiled at him before returning her hand to her side once more, “I have to be honest though, I don’t know much about demon’s and half demon’s but regardless of that I don’t think it matters what you are as so much as who you are” A gentle breeze blew past the group carrying with it the scent of cooking meat and various other foods, just smelling it made Stella’s stomach grumble and her mouth water. Turning her gaze over to her other side as Gale tapped her on the shoulder Stella gave him a quick smile too, “Yeah Gale?” Part of her had been expecting him to ask her the same question that she had not answered earlier but another part of her had desperately hoped that he wouldn’t. Stella didn’t answer straight away, instead she turned her gaze to the front for several seconds as the corners of her mouth twitched while she thought on what she could and couldn’t say. “He was hired by my father to take me back home,…one way or the other. …Dead or alive I suppose doesn’t matter to him anymore…” Stella’s voice trailed off as she spoke, her gaze staring off into the distance as she walked along. “I did something that shamed my family’s name, in my father’s eyes that was something that was never forgivable. And yet he tolerated me for many years, until I ran away from my family. He wants to keep the family’s name intact and therefore while I am away I am too much of a risk to that…. I could ruin everything he has worked so hard for….. It kind of hurts to know that he thinks I would do something like that though.” Realising she must have been sounding depressing Stella decided to try and bring the mood up a notch, taking a long sniff of the air she smiled and turned to them both in turn. “Mmmm smells good huh? We must be getting close by now” To be truthful Stella wasn’t sure if they were going to accept the amount she had told them, would they want to know more? Would they be satisfied with the few details she had told them? Either way she wouldn’t be upset, if they wished to know more she would tell them but she wasn’t going to bore them and weight them down in her troubles if they were in fact not interested at all. “H-hey!” the half-demon called out as Stella ruffled his hair, blushing slightly, not particularly annoyed or angry…just caught by surprise, which considering his senses wasn’t all that often, though he would have to be ready to be more surprised as the exquip mage continued. “N-not embarrassed by it…just…nervous about it…it’s hard to understand what’s rare…and people fear what they can’t understand…and some people would say freakish…not cute…b-but, thankyou…” his voice trailing off, his blush getting deeper, his ears and tail involuntarily picking up at the praise. Stella’s next statement seemed simple enough, but, it was rather rare for people to actually believe it. Whether she meant it, or she could say it because she was ignorant of the details of his heritage would have to been seen, but as far he could tell she meant her words, a faint smile crossing his face at that thought. Right then a breeze picked up, his thoughts briefly brought back to the restaurant they approached, the smells of steak, chicken, other meats, salt, pepper, various herbs and other spices, mingled with the scents of the numerous patrons, smelt like the restaurant must have been fairly busy today, Gale’s voice bringing his attention back to his two companions. In all honesty it was a question he didn’t expect Stella to answer, and not one he would have asked himself. People’s pasts could be touchy subjects, families more so. Only a few of his guild mates knew about Kain’s past and even then, only the briefest of summaries, and in return, he wouldn’t ask about someone else’s past or personal matters, they were exactly that, personal, and, a person should be defined by their current actions, not their past. Still, after a bit of hesitation and her voice trailing off once, Stella did answer the question, though she quickly tried to lighten the mood afterwards, commenting on smell coming from the restaurant. “Yeah, smells really good, it’s just up ahead,” Kain’s voice trailing off. While he didn’t want to probe deeper into Stella’s past, if she was in some kind of trouble, he also still wanted to help. “Forget about your Dad…parents cause nothing but suffering, you should make friends your family, or heck, you’re a mage, a guild even.” Kain didn’t mean to sound so blunt and cold talking about simply forgetting her father, but he never knew his parents and frankly never wanted to meet them, so to him sounded like the best option. “If you’re in some sort of trouble though…if I can help I’d like too.” |
