"If someone didn't want to kill Picard, then it couldn't be an enemy," Ross thought out loud. "An enemy wouldn't care if Picard was died, a friend would. Who, that doesn't hate Picard, would want he not to join starfleet?"

"Like you said, it is either a friend or a family member of his."

"But WHO!" Ross screamed, angrily. "Who would do this?" She stared down at the road, taking a deep breath. "Ok, now we know that the change in history happens at far point. So, whatever the reason for stopping Picard from joining must be for something before that point. What's Picards history before the Enterprise?" She looked up and answered before David could. "He's first command of a ship was the Stargazer. Could anyone on that ship do this to him?"

"What about Jack Crusher?" David said thinking aloud. "No that would not be right would it?"

"Why Jack Crusher," Ross asked, sounding a little excited. "Why would he want to stop Picard?"

"I was thinking that because Jack was killed while serving under Picard, he would want to stop Picard from getting a chance to be in Starfleet but that could not happen because Jack was killed. Could it be a descendant of Jack Crusher though? Like Westley or his mom"

He had followed this discussion calmly until now. "While I believe these could be answers," he now broke in, "We should probably look beyond. Perhaps someone who wants to avoid the death sentence, for example."

Ross turned slowly to face Lt. Cohen. "Wesley.... Lt. isn't Wesley a time traveler? It wouldn't be hard for him to come here and stop Picard."

"That's true, but how does Wesley know that he won't create a Predestination Paradox? Unless he can create a temporal shield around him." David said
