NPC Erica Ross

She shook her head. "We came too early. This was the wrong timeframe. He really wants to go to Starfleet." she snapped her fingers. "You know what it is? Probably when he failed. He was feeling very down, and was probably easy to convince."

She reached into her purse and pulled out her communicator.

:comm: Ross to Atlanta :comm:

:comm: Go ahead Commander. :comm:

:comm: We believe we're too early. Transport us to right after he failed. :comm:

:comm: Acknowledged. :comm:

They felt the familiar *swish* of the transporter, and they were off.[/i]

ooc: We now return to the Enterprise. I'm copying the relevant part of the post just to bring us back on track.

Enterprise-D

Everyone made their way to their stations and quarters, settling into a routine. The ship was on its way to Farpoint station, and they had to make sure that they were known before the incident. So they ate in the messhall, spent recreation time in 10-forward, etc. Finally the day came. Rezit called them all to his quarters to discuss the plan.

"Ok," he said, after they'd all gathered. "Before I tell you the final plan, I'm open to any suggestions. We all know how this is supposed to transpire. Has anyone noticed anything that might be pertinent to how they'll react this time?"

- Feel free to throw in ideas.

OOC: I'll let the Enterprise story get some time before continuing the France story.

ooc: Apparently the Enterprise crew is stuck in a temporal loop ;) Let's continue France for now.
.
BIC: They were right where they'd just left! Ross pulled out her tricorder. "Don't be fooled," she said softly. "We've travelled around a week into the future."
As she spoke, they saw a much more sullen Picard walking up the path. He paused when he saw them. "I guess you guys heard too, huh?"

"Yes we did." David said. He went over to Picard. "Don't get too upset over it. Take the exam again. I am sure you will get in. Look, most if not all of Starfleet's best officers failed their first entrance exam. Pike did not get in until his third try. Archer had to take the exam twice before he got in. There are countless of others just like you who failed it the first time but took it again until they got in. Retake the exam again. Don't turn your back on something that you have always wanted to do." David said

He shook his head. "I don't know. I've always wanted to do this, but now... I just don't know. It's such a let down. I can't imagine going through all that all over again."

"Do you know what would be a let down Jean-Luc? Seeing such a bright and noble man like yourself turn away from his life long dreams. If you do not retake the exams, you will be wasting everything you have worked for. You will dishonor you and your family name. People will say "Look, that's Jean-Luc-Picard. The boy who who failed his first Starfleet entrance exam. He did not try to get in after that and he has shamed his family for not trying his best to join one of the most honorable and noble careers. He is a disgrace to his family name and to himself." Do you want people to say that Jean-Luc?" David asked "Do you want to bring shame and dishonor to yourself and to your family?"

Ginger remained in the background for the moment. She thought David's comments were unneccessarily antagonistic, but she didn't want Picard to think they were somehow ganging up on him. She decided to wait and see what his reaction was before proceeding.

He flanced at David before turning away again. "You just don't get it, do you. They'll love the fact that I failed. They'll all tell me how I should never have tried to break tradition, that it was a fool's choice. And you know what? They'll probably be right." His shoulders sagged as he contemplated the situation.

"Prove them wrong. Take the exam again and pass it. Show them that you are not a fool and that you are better than them. Ask them if they would take the exam and see what their reaction is." David said

"They'll say no! They'll say that it was a dumb idea, and I'll be even dumber if I try again. Besides, what happens if I fail afain? There's no way I'll be able to face them."
