Posted by: Chief Engineer Erica Ross Dec 16 2007, 03:19 AM Chief Engineer Lt. Cdr. Ross walked slowly into the mess hall. This was not her type of place. The mess hall was a place where friends talk about things friends like. She doesn’t have friends, never had one, and never will. Its too hard to open her heart to someone she had made that mistake once- would never again. Getting her meal- her regular hot open roast beef and mashed potato- she sat down at the nearest empty table for a quiet, peaceful dinner. She didn’t get it. Posted by: Captain Chaim Rezit Dec 16 2007, 05:00 AM Captain Rezit walked into the messhall, starving. Alpha shift had been on double duty, as the whole crew hadn't been assembled yet, and he was ready to eat, well, anything. He settled for a bowl of egg drop soup. He looked around and noticed his Chief Engineer. What was her name? Ah, yes, Ross. She seemed a little reclusive, albeit a great engineer. He walked up to where she sat alone. "And how are we today, Commander?" he asked. Posted by: Chief Engineer Erica Ross Dec 16 2007, 05:51 AM Chief Engineer Lt. Cdr. Ross groaned as the shadow of the captain fell over her table. So much for that quiet evening. “Captain, how nice to see you out of the bridge,” she whispers, glancing up from the reports she had been reading. “I wasn’t expecting anyone tonight, but its good that you’ve come over. I was just going to write you a report on the warp coil. There’s something wrong with it right now. I want to do some tests tomorrow, because I don’t think its safe to fly with.” Posted by: Captain Chaim Rezit Dec 16 2007, 12:39 PM Chaim raised his eyebrows at the sigh which he heard. He wasn't aware he was interrupting anything. "What's wrong with the warp coil?" he asked, concerned. He wanted to get started as quickly as they could, but he wasn't about to risk their lives in order to do it. "And why are you whispering?" he continued, so that only she could hear. Posted by: Chief Engineer Erica Ross Dec 16 2007, 02:13 PM Chief Engineer Lt. Cdr. Ross was shocked that the captain had noticed that she wasn’t comfortable with the “meeting” “Sir,” she said, louder as not to be so obvious about her unease, “I was running just a normal test on the warp coil, getting ready for setting off, and it just didn’t seem right. I need to spend a day or two checking it over.” Posted by: Captain Chaim Rezit Dec 16 2007, 06:16 PM "Ok, that shouldn't be a problem. Is it having any effect on the temporal or trans-warp drives?" He thought bringing the conversation to a plane she related to would help her ease the tension. Posted by: Chief Engineer Erica Ross Dec 16 2007, 07:07 PM “I do need to do some more test runs, but right now I feel that something is wrong with the temporal warp drive. The problem is that my staff is so small, doing these test are taking a lot of time out of getting the ship ready for our first mission. Is there anyone available to help me for the next few hours- to get these test done quickly.” Ross breathed deeply. She wasn’t a people person- never had been. There was a family myth that had been passed down that one of her ancestors was Klingon. If that was true then Ross was part Klingon, which would explain why she hated being around humans for a long time. Posted by: Lt. Jason Link Dec 16 2007, 11:09 PM "I am sorry sir, but I could not help but overhear your conversation with Chief Ross,” Said Lt. Link, who had appeared beside them. “I believe I may be of some assistance in helping to repair the warp coils.” Posted by: Captain Chaim Rezit Dec 17 2007, 01:22 AM "Really? Your resume` didn't mention anything about Engineering expertise." Posted by: Lt. Jason Link Dec 17 2007, 07:31 AM "I still retain all of the knowladge of the Borg Colective, who are very well versed in warp mechanics. Also, as Cheif Ross has stated, there are no others." Posted by: Captain Chaim Rezit Dec 17 2007, 12:54 PM Rezit nodded. He had forgotten about that. "How does that sound to you, Commander?" Posted by: Chief Engineer Erica Ross Dec 17 2007, 11:59 PM Lt. Cdr. Ross glanced down at her, now cold dinner, and groaned silently. Of all people to “over hear her conversation, it had to be The Borg! It wasn’t that Ross didn’t like Lt. Jason Link, she didn’t know him, and that’s how she’d like to keep it. “Lt. Link, thank you so much for volunteering to help, but I don’t want to pull you away from your job at Science. Is there any ensigns that can be pulled into engineering, Captain?” Ross looked up, her icy blue eyes staring right at the Borg. Posted by: Captain Chaim Rezit Dec 18 2007, 12:27 AM Completely missing the look Erica gave Jason, Chaim thought for a moment. "Only one or two, really. As you said, we're low on are crew. Are you sure you can't use Mr. Link's expertise?" Posted by: Chief Engineer Erica Ross Dec 18 2007, 08:59 PM Lt. Cdr. Ross breathed deeply. She knew she wouldn’t like working with Lt. Link, but her first priority was never herself, it was always the ship. The ship needed to be fixed as so as possible, and someone with as much experience as Lt. Link would speed up the repairs. “Lt. Link,” she fought the words out of her mouth, “It would really help speed the repairs if you would help.” Posted by: Lt. Jason Link Dec 18 2007, 10:32 PM "When shall we begin?" asked the Lt. Posted by: Chief Engineer Erica Ross Dec 18 2007, 10:54 PM "0600," Lt. Cdr. Ross answered, looking at the captain instead of at Lt. Link. "That way, we should be done with enough time left over before the first mission." She glanced down at her, now ice cold dinner, rose and looked at the two men before her. "If thats all, I'm going to go down to engineering and start some scans." Posted by: Captain Chaim Rezit Dec 19 2007, 06:13 PM Chaim watched her walk out. "Was it somethng I said?" he asked Lt. Link. Posted by: Lt. Jason Link Dec 19 2007, 07:59 PM Jason stared Ross out of the room and then turned to the captain. "If I am to assume correctly, I believe she was frightened of me.” Jason mentally sighed as he remembered the past ten years. The only years of his life that he could remember. The doctors had told him his name was Jason and that he used to be human. He had even looked himself up in the database. He had been a young, good-looking ensign. Now he was a hulk of disconfigured Borg waste. No wonder Commander Ross had seemed to loath him so. “I believe it best to return to my post now.” Lt. Link walked toward the turbo-lift to await his ‘session’ with Erica at 0600 hours. Posted by: Captain Chaim Rezit Dec 21 2007, 01:10 PM ooc; Congratulations on the first thread to reach two pages, guys! Good work smile.gif bic: "Lieutenant, wait!" Rezit yelled after his retreating back. Posted by: Lt. Jason Link Dec 21 2007, 01:59 PM Jason stopped and turned toward his captain, "Is there something else sir?" he asked. Posted by: Captain Chaim Rezit Dec 21 2007, 03:55 PM "If ther's friction between the senior officers, I'd like to take care of it before we get underway. Why do you feel she's frightened of you?" Posted by: Lt. Jason Link Dec 21 2007, 04:29 PM "Perhaps not frightened" answered Link, "but more intimidated. It's the way she looked at me, like I was some kind of monster. The funny thing is, she is right." For the first time since he could remmember, Jason felt a hint of shame. He looked down at his plethera of Borg implants and chalk-white skin. He piked up his hand and felt the ocularimplant embeded in his eye. Jason stood up strait and walked into the turbo-lift. "Bridge." he commanded the computer. Posted by: Captain Chaim Rezit Dec 22 2007, 09:17 PM Chaim watched him leave, shaking his head. He'd have to keep a close eye on that one, and made a mental note to do so. Jason Link wasn't the first Borg to be liberated, and as the others had adapted, so would he. It might take some time, but that was ok. Posted by: Captain Chaim Rezit Jan 3 2008, 08:25 AM ooc: This story is continued in "fixing the warp drive" in Engineering. From hereon in you can continue, but start at a later date. Posted by: Lt. Jason Link Jan 3 2008, 11:54 PM OOC: Why not just start a new topic? Posted by: Captain Chaim Rezit Jan 4 2008, 01:51 AM ooc: I think two pages is too short. I think this"ll just kind of "float around" as people discuss what's going on. If someone wants to start a new topic, of course, they can, but we'll see what happens. |
