These are words of a Racist White man. You need to go realize that not every Black person to get to, college, but still need to earn a living to help their family survive. If a minimum wage job is all which is available to them then, yes, you do appear very cancerous here by sitting up discouraging those jobs. |

I don't think anyone can argue that fact. I'm a big boy. I agree to disagree with anybody and move to the next topic. (and disagree again)

In high tech countries, A minimum wage is calculated by it's resources, so countries with the greatest amount of resources will have the lowest minimum wages because it has help programs to fill in for the gaps. Which means that in countries with the higher minimums, their resources are lower, and the result is that public assistance recipients in the richer countries with the lowest minimums are likely living as good or better than those people are living on the higher wages in their country. You see, When you're only looking at dollar amounts you're not seeing the whole picture and situations as they actually stand. Now here in America, a lot people like to look down on public assistance, but the truth, is that many PA recipients are living better than those with a 9 to 5 job. And you will see the difference when you visit their homes. The houses of the PA people are often more swanky than those with a job. They have luxuries in their house that many working people don't. That is, if the PA recipient isn't strung out on things like drugs, alcohol, sex, and cigarettes. Edited by cisslybee2012, Mar 23 2016, 03:24 PM.

This is one of the reasons, I resigned from a committee, I started with other women, who wanted to assist those, and give something back. We would put in our own personal monies, therefore, we could dispense at our discretion. We would have a waiting list of parents, whether they were male/female, needing our help. We used to just write checks, and pay bills, buy food, pay rents, etc..well we tweaked the rules on the assistance. We started doing home visits. If you refused, you didn't get our money. We went to one home, a young lady needed help with her rent. Her home was nice and clean, however, she had a television in all 3 bedrooms, all her kids had cell phones, however, she was behind on her public assistance rent and utilities. I told her we would not be able to assist someone, who is clearly irresponsible with her finances. She cursed me, and I told her to burn some candles, when her lights get turned off! We visited another home. A young lady with three kids, she was a CNA, making $12.50. She didn't pay her car note, for the month of Dec, in order to buy presents for her kids for Xmas. I asked, is your rent paid, she said yes, I'm going to keep a roof over our heads. I said, what about utilities, she said, it's too cold to be without heat. Do you have food? She said I get $75 dollars a month in food stamps, and that helps. I asked, how much do you owe on your car? **a 2009 Saturn** I made a phone call to my hubby who works at Baylor. I also made another phone call. This young lady no longer has a car note, and she now makes $18.00 at Baylor. People with priorities, deserve our assistance. Others can burn candles.. |

It's odd that someone on PA is allowed to pay rent themselves. In NYC, the agency directly pays the rent to the landlord. But in this case you described, it isn't TV's and cell phones that's her problem. She likely has wasteful habits that her money is going on. This can be a freeloading boyfriend, cigarettes, alcohol, etc... And also, when a PA recipient is behind in rent, legally, the agency has to pay that rent. At least that's how it is in NYC. In fact, this protection is available to all New Yorkers whether they're on PA or not. If somebody balls up their rent money, they can go to their local PA office and get the money. So if she were in NY she wouldn't have to turn to a private funding resource to save her house or utilities even if she is a irresponsible person. Which is why NY doesn't allow PA recipients to pay rent themselves. Edited by cisslybee2012, Mar 23 2016, 04:24 PM.
