Miles Davis admired Marcus Garvey, he said that his love of Marcus Garvey came from his father. Miles said that his father admired Marcus Garvey for the way he got black people to stand together for themselves.

Another person that Miles Davis admired was Bill Cosby. Miles said that he met Bill Cosby coming through the airport in Chicago. He said that after he got to know Bill they became very close friends. He said at the time Bill Cosby was doing I Spy and was a big star on television.

Miles Davis said that while in Europe doing a concert Bill and his wife Camille was over there, and they came to his show. Miles said that after the show they all hooked up together and went out to the club and went dancing.

Miles Davis said that he married Cicely Tyson at the home of Bill Cosby on Thanksgiving day in 1981.

Miles Davis said that he liked the fact that Bill Cosby television shows showed positive images of black people. Below is a quote from Miles Davis Autobiography.

Miles Davis-----The press was trying to play Wynton Marsalis off me. They compared me with Wynton, but never with some white trumpet player like Chuck Mangione. Just the way they compare Richard Pryor, Eddie Murphy and Bill Cosby to each other. They don't compare them to white people like Robin Williams, or somebody else who is white. When Bill Cosby first won all of those awards for his television show, you could hear a pin drop at the award ceremony, because all those other television networks had turned him down. I know because Cicely and me were there. White people like to see black people crawling around and Uncle Tomming. Or they like to see blacks angry with each other.

Miles said that his close friends were Max Roach, Richard Pryor, Quincy Jones, Bill Cosby and Prince.

This information came from Miles the Autobiography.

Considering Miles was a wife beater, it would be a bad association anyway

I love Miles David and Bill Cosby, both of them were the top in their fields. Miles Davis was the top in music, and Bill Cosby was the top on television.

First I've heard this about Miles.
In every respect, he is a remarkable.

He was a jerk, though. And I don’t mean just in an egotistical way—though there was a lot of narcissism as well. He beat his wives with regularity, by his own admission.

In a rare interview with The New York Times, his first wife, Frances Davis, recalled, “I actually left running for my life—more than once.” And in his memoir, Miles, he owns up to it himself—though the book review from The Atlantic seems less convinced by his apologies:
