Legends of America has published an interesting retrospective of Nicodemus, Kansas, the only Western town founded by African Americans after the Civil War that still remains. Nicodemus was established by ex-slaves, who had fled the South seeking of place to restart their lives. Founded by a land developer from Indiana and an African American clergyman named W. H. Smith. The first settler was another clergyman, the Reverend Simon Roundtree.

The town printed circulars inviting African Americans from all over the US to come and settle in Nicodemus. Black refugees were open to settling in Kansa because they associated the state with the Underground Railroad and the Abolitionist John Brown. Nicodemus still stands today in Graham County.

If more black people had common sense to analyze and observe (intelligence) there would be more and better towns like that.

Too many uppity blacks now wouldn't work this time it's 2015. I've been to Nicodemus a few times years ago...it was a quaint little place rather rough around the "edges" Veryl Switzer a pro-football player back in the 60's or 70's(?) was born in Nicodemus, KS.

Nicodemus, KS and Rosewood, OK(The Black Wall Street) are the only all black towns to exist in this place we call America. Rosewood, the pecker-woods burned it to the ground. Nicodemus has struggled many years to remain intact, but most of the younger generation moved away after reaching adulthood never to return to live there.

Thanks UTB....one can learn something new everyday if you're open enough. Interesting how much of our history is left out of real history.

I've been researching black history from the beginning of the internet back in the early 90's. I tend to search for documented history, not some jumbled up history on a pro black site.

I dont know if it's uppity.. Just too many blacks arent able to critically observe and analyze things..

Whether they are making 10 dollars an hour or 100K+ a year.

So, you're more pro-black, than the other pro-black pro-claimers?

I started back in the '90's also, however what's the end game?

A question I had to ask myself, what gain do I have today, knowing my past history?

Nope I'm not. I like truthful information that is documented and verified.
