I've come to the realization, that 'some' exercising is more harmful, than helpful.

Muscles are for looks, however a healthy heart, lungs, liver, are for living, long term.

Question for you guys, why work out? Lift weights, cardio, etc..

Also, how often do you go to the doctor, for full checkups?

Me and my hubby have the disagreement over working out..he doesn't like to do his physicals with his doctors. Running on treadmills, hurts the joints, doesn't do much for the heart and lungs; lifting weights are good for toneness, however, it makes the muscles weak over time...

So, whats the endgame, for working out?
One word for ya red...DENIAL. As you make your points which I'll address individually, it just came out today that a larger number of americans are getting even fatter!

No, this sounds like a rationalization. It's just an excuse to be lazy. Even a little exercise is better than the sedentary lifestyle your "realization" implies.

Huh?
Yes, well toned muscles can be attractive but they do serve a function such mobility in our legs and moving weighty objects with our arms. It's a quality not be overlooked especially as we get elderly.

In no particular order. I played football in HS and would like to maintain a good body; I like looking attractive to the opposite sex; it's healthy; I'm physically able to handle my business if need be.

I fail here. Not enough.

Ultimately 2 things. Pussy from finer women. 2, I'll be healthier even into my very late years.

Interesting mix you got there doc.
Like the Vanessa Williams remake of Work To Do, though AWB's version remains my favorite.
I most often listen to talk radio when I workout.
Sir Snidely,

Talk radio?

Do you listen to programs that tick you off which could work as a motivator?

Or do you listen to programs you agree with, or laugh at which also works to keep you on an even keel?

Back in the day, I would listen to Tom Leykis.
Talk radio now is mostly right wing. Though I disagree generally, I just like listening to a different point of view. I also listen to sports talk, comedic, and a variety of programs.
I do remember Leykis. I really liked flash Fridays :D
I've always like talk radio. I guess it reminds me of being a boy in Jamaica and my father would often gather us kids and tell us stories. No TV. Just the spoken work and our minds would paint whatever mental images.

As for motivation, well yoga pants and shorts with nothing underneath work for me :D
I understand, Sir Snidely.

Leykis 101 on Thursdays were pretty funny, too.

When Leykis went off the air, I stopped listening to talk radio.

I agree with you about yoga pants.

So glad, that I am, Felicia loves to wear them.

Talk Radio! Oh my! :-)
Yes, I love talk radio. Sometimes at home I'll turn off the TV and just listen, even while I'm doing other things.
:-) I might try talk radio while on my rowing machine! However, I can't hear anything except my own thoughts, while swimming.

My dear Snide, I think you're making my case. Vanity is the reason, most people work out. Not for health, but to look and feel good.

I'll give you two people to ponder..Magic Johnson and Oprah Winfrey. Neither are in 'shape' however, I bet they are healthy. They dedicate time and effort to the inside, versus the vanity of looking good on the outside.

What you're calling denial, is for me, realization. I've always been 'in shape', active in many things, however upon loosing a few lbs, without trying to, I had to seek out why.

Dr. said I had an bacteria infection, maybe from something I ate, touched, or drank. I said, ok, let's look at the inside doc, what's good is it, if my insides are slowing becoming infected, but the outside is desirable and looks good? I'm just not that vain!

To your point, this society is fatter. Isn't that more from diet? I think so. What we put inside, reflects how the outside looks..

You can't convince me, that a person who eats a well balanced diet, with the exception of any medical conditions, will be fat, even if they didn't exercise.

Our skeletal frame is given to us, from our parents. Our frame (bones/teeth) feed off what we put inside. The frame can only carry certain lbs, without affecting the internal organs. Most people don't even know what heart rate, they should be exercising at..

I am not against some physical activity, in fact all should have some. However, leave the vanity aspect out of it. A person could have the best body, but carry many diseases..

Why? Why not put as much effort into the inside, as you do the outside? What message is that sending to your family and community? As long as we 'look' good?? :D

True. ;)

Most people are indeed slaves to vanity.
