I've come to the realization, that 'some' exercising is more harmful, than helpful.

Muscles are for looks, however a healthy heart, lungs, liver, are for living, long term.

Question for you guys, why work out? Lift weights, cardio, etc..

Also, how often do you go to the doctor, for full checkups?

Me and my hubby have the disagreement over working out..he doesn't like to do his physicals with his doctors. Running on treadmills, hurts the joints, doesn't do much for the heart and lungs; lifting weights are good for toneness, however, it makes the muscles weak over time...

So, whats the endgame, for working out?

I will admit, I hardly get check-ups.

I believe that exercise has increased my immune system (I was a sickly child). In addition, I hardly ever have asthma problems which were rather chronic in my early years. If I do have asthma problems, it is now only due to bad seasonal weather mixed with stress. Speaking of which, exercise also relives a lot of stress for me. Although many may not believe me, I have a bad temper, and exercising has proven to be a calming influence.

People who exercise for bulk, or just fail to use proper form, often suffer injuries. The times where I hurt myself directly came from trying to do too much. An important key for me is to engage in exercises that work for me individually. One has to create a program that is in tune to their individual body dynamic. If running is bad for you, then brisk walking is a feasible substitute.

People need to listen to their bodies when exercising.

Vanity does play a huge part of my motivation to exercise. Exercise helps keep my energy level up, as I do have a stressful job.

Part of my vanity entails the fact that the only signs of age on me is my salt & pepper hair (I started going gray in my teens). Exercise, done properly, greatly reduces the signs of aging.

I never intend to stop exercising.

I swim daily. It's a low impact exercise which is great for one's circulation, it also strengthens the lungs and tones muscles; although doesn't "build" any muscles really. It improves strength & balance, which as we age can become a common problem.

Swimming is easy on the joints where some exercising as in jogging or high impact aerobics can damage the knees or bones.

I also bought a row machine which again, is low impact but is great for strength, circulation and cardio.

Exercise benefits the body more than for vanity. It gets the blood to pump out toxins in our system, it delivers fresh rich oxygen to our organs, it burns excess sugar in our blood stream, it makes us stronger, more balanced, it improves our moods and burns the stress hormone out of our system, as well as other many benefits.

I get a full physical every year which includes blood work and the horrible dreaded female exam.

I will mention that if one eats horrible food, yet exercises, they may not be as healthy as they might think. Eating well & exercise go hand in hand.

A full physical with a Cardiologist, Nutritionist, and Pulmonologist, with full blood work up, is key first and foremost. The outside could look great, however the inside could slowly be dying. I no longer exercise like I did, my own trainer suggest we go in a different direction.

My bro-n-law, is suffering from CHF, he's only 56. He's was a workout freak, an avid basketball player, however he never took his physicals seriously. He focused on the outside, moreso than the inside. Our heart is a muscle, took much 'abuse' (moderate to overly using it) can make it slowly die. I've had to re-think my position on my externals extremities.

This also, is what my hubby doesn't like to take into consideration. His eating habits are not extreme, however he does eat late sometimes, sometimes drinks alcohol (nothing healthy about that), and loves sweets.

I'm pushing him more into the inner parts of his body, vs the external parts. I want him to be healthy in all ways, not just looking good outward.

I do not want to be changing diapers, nor giving him shots, because he never considered to be healthy on the inside.

I enjoy swimming. I love the water, I also do yoga and meditation. The mind needs peace too. :D

Sir Snidely,

Talk radio?

Do you listen to programs that tick you off which could work as a motivator?

Or do you listen to programs you agree with, or laugh at which also works to keep you on an even keel?

Back in the day, I would listen to Tom Leykis.
Talk radio now is mostly right wing. Though I disagree generally, I just like listening to a different point of view. I also listen to sports talk, comedic, and a variety of programs.
I do remember Leykis. I really liked flash Fridays :D
I've always like talk radio. I guess it reminds me of being a boy in Jamaica and my father would often gather us kids and tell us stories. No TV. Just the spoken work and our minds would paint whatever mental images.

As for motivation, well yoga pants and shorts with nothing underneath work for me :D

Yes, I love talk radio. Sometimes at home I'll turn off the TV and just listen, even while I'm doing other things.
