http://www.csmonitor.com/USA/Society/2014/1116/Three-years-into-drought-Californians-adapt-to-a-drier-way-of-life-video It's happening folks! The same thing is happening here in Ga. The farmers are using so much waters from aquifers beneath the ground, that some people wells are going dry. It's a problem we're going to have to address. I've always said that the federal government need to build more lakes to conserve the runoffs we have every spring. Can you imagine how much water we will have after this winter with snow and flood runoffs? I watched 60 minutes last night, and in Ca, the earth is finally beginning to sink due to the depletion of water in the aquifers! There have been some strides in developing crops that doesn't nearly require the amount of water, that other crops use. I sincerely hope that you don't think this is a joke, because all of us must have food. I can remember back in WW2 when most groceries were rationed, and my parent had to use stamps in order to purchase certain foods like sugar. If you shop for groceries today, it's easy to see just how prices have jumped because of the scarcity of water. meanwhile, cities such as Tampa has turned to desalination of ocean water in order to fill the gap. Water can become more precious than gold, especially in dry climates. |
