http://www.huffingtonpost.com/2014/04/09/hank-aaron-obama_n_5119633.html Baseball Hall of Famer Hank Aaron thinks President Barack Obama's Republican detractors aren't too far off from the individuals who threatened him as he approached Babe Ruth's home run record forty years ago. In an interview with USA Today published Tuesday, Aaron described the racist letters he received as he closed in on Ruth's milestone. Four decades later, Aaron says he still keeps the letters in his attic to remind himself of the United States' persistent racism. "We are not that far removed from when I was chasing the record," he said. "If you think that, you are fooling yourself. A lot of things have happened in this country, but we have so far to go. There's not a whole lot that has changed." Aaron pointed to Republicans' obstruction of Obama as one area where not much progress has been made. "Sure, this country has a black president, but when you look at a black president, President Obama is left with his foot stuck in the mud from all of the Republicans with the way he's treated," he said. "The bigger difference is that back then they had hoods. Now they have neckties and starched shirts."... |

Some folks in the bloggers sphere went rabid over Hank's comments. He's 80 years old and in my experience, the more people age, the less they care about what some folks think about them. Hank's life was constantly threaten by racist America and in some instances he had to spend the night at the stadium it was so bad. The closer he got to breaking the record, the deeper the hatred and the more increasing the threats became. Interesting how some folks see him as the "Anti-Barry Bonds" and extol his accomplishment for breaking the record. No matter how badly the racists don't like Hank for breaking the record, the visceral hatred for Barry Bonds is much greater. Now it has occurred to me that if Bonds was white, the accusation of PEDs would be watered down somewhat. Since a white person would, again, own the coveted home run record. Smacks of when Jessie Owens own the Germans in the 1936(?) Olympics with multiple Gold Medals and eviscerated Hitler's mythical notion of so called "white supremacy". |

No Obama haters will comment on Hank Aaron's comment and agree like they do with the Republican Professor, the Doctor, West and the rest of the Klan. |
