I'm derailing your thread with a question I didn't want to make a new thread for: Is there any other technology besides analog vs digital for recording music with? |

Plus 1 ... My bad for not seeing this earlier....check this out when you get time: http://www.shoretelsky.com/resources/learn/pbx-vs-voip/ there's also something called VDAC which is a like a cross between the two (digital & analog) but I am not too familiar with...when I record music I reach for premium digital audio Edited by U Thant, May 18 2014, 09:51 AM.

:-) Thank you! I knew you'd answer eventually. A young man at the center is going to record his own and I had to do research to know what he was talking about. I had some questions after reading so much. Thank you for the help! |

Currently no. Just a brief primer. Analog was the older format. Analog is exactly what you'd think in the word analog or analogy. The sound we hear through our ears is analog. Kinda like the waves of an ocean but instead of waves of water it's air. The analog reference is these sound waves are mechanically converted to waves or grooves on vinyl or magnetic orientation on tape. Thus an analogy or an analog is made of the sound in air. Digital converts sound into 1s and 0s, bits. This sound is from microphones or from other analog sources like tapes and records. They are converted to bits. When played back, these bits are decoded back from digital to analog. That analog signal fed to your speakers or headphones in order for us to know the music or whatever audio was recorded. There are none other unless she creates an entirely new format. |

Not true, my friend. There are some which combine both sounds. Of course if you're not versed in digital logic, then you might not view that as a third option. |
