Yogurt can be expensive, and the fruit flavored individual cups can be full of ingredients not worthy of human consumption. My cooking instructor mentioned we buy a tub of plain Greek yogurt and eat it with cinnamon, vanilla extract and sprinkle some frozen blueberries in it. Per serving it's less costly and much healthier. She doesn't advocate sugar or sugar substitute. She said if your taste pallet requires a sweetened yogurt, to pour a tiny amount of real maple syrup into it; lower on the glycemic index than sugar is. I had a hard time adjusting to non sweetened yogurt, it was bitter and sour. However a dear friend of mine says she eats it daily and encouraged me to continue trying it; one spoonful a day. She was correct! My taste buds adjusted and I do enjoy a 1/2 cup of plain yogurt with frozen fruit and cinnamon mixed into it. :-) The Glycemic Index is a topic worthy of study but honestly, I haven't done any research on it so I don't know what I'm talking about. |

I can't either! Chili is a family favorite here. We like ours thick and spicy! :-) |

Us too. I have tried a ground turkey and kidney bean chili but, in terms of flavor, it seems like beef is simply the way to go. Edited by VoiceofReason, Sep 21 2014, 12:25 PM.

Beef is our choice too! :-) One of the categories for the contest is Vegetarian and I'm excited to try those. If I can eat a meatless dish now and then I believe it would be better for my pocket book. :-) |

Today we made Peanut Butter Bars. They were very tasty but too sweet. I'll post the recipe later but when I make them at home I plan to cut the sugar amount. I'm also going to try using crushed up oatmeal vs graham cracker crumbs. That will be somewhat healthier and less sugar. Also, there are all natural peanut butters without much sugar in them. I'm learning to tweak my recipes. :-) |

Peanut Butter Bars 1 Cup butter; melted 2 cups graham cracker crumbs 1/4 cup brown sugar 1 3/4 cups powder sugar 1 cup peanut butter 1/2 tsp vanilla 1 bag Hershey's chocolate chips Combine everything except the chips. Stir until well combined. Pat the mixture into a 9 X 13 dish. Melt the chocolate chips in a double boiler. (Folks, I used the microwave!) Pour the chocolate over the peanut mixture, using a rubber spatula to spread it around. Place in the fridge until the chocolate and peanut mixture is "set"; about an hour. Cut into 1 inch squares and enjoy! |
