Here we go again........... CHARLOTTE, N.C. — An unarmed man seeking help after a car crash over the weekend was shot 10 times by the Charlotte police officer who's now charged in his death, investigators said Monday. The release of the information supporting the voluntary manslaughter charge came at the end of a day that also included the first public remarks by victim Jonathan A. Ferrell's family. A family attorney and representatives of the NAACP questioned whether race played a role in the shooting of the black man by a white officer. Ferrell's family said the former Florida A&M University football player moved to Charlotte about a year ago to be with his fiancee and was working two jobs. He wanted to go back to school and eventually become an automotive engineer. "You took a piece of my heart that I can never put back," said Ferrell's mother, Georgia Ferrell, as she clutched a stuffed Winnie the Pooh doll her 24-year-old son loved as a child. A police news release said Officer Randall Kerrick fired 12 times at Ferrell early Saturday while responding to a breaking and entering call, hitting him 10 times. Kerrick was scheduled for a first court appearance today on the voluntary manslaughter charge. NAACP leaders gathered Monday to both praise police for quickly filing charges and to complain about how the shooting didn't surprise them considering portrayals of black men in popular culture and previous instances of racially inflected violence. The encounter was set in motion around 2:30 a.m. Saturday when Ferrell's car ran off the entrance road to a sprawling suburban neighborhood some 15 miles from downtown Charlotte. After crashing his car into trees, Ferrell kicked out the back window and headed up a hill to the first set of closely clustered houses he could see. He then started "banging on the door viciously" of a home to attract attention, police Chief Rodney Monroe said. The woman inside answered, thinking it was her husband coming home late from work. When she saw Ferrell, she shut the door and called police. Officers responding to the breaking and entering call found Ferrell on a road that only leads to the neighborhood's pool. Ferrell ran toward the officers, who tried to stop him with a Taser. Police said he continued to run toward them when Kerrick shot him. Ferrell died at the scene. Ferrell's mother said Kerrick had no business being a police officer if he couldn't react properly to a man who needed help. "I truly forgive him," Georgia Ferrell said. "I pray for him. And I pray that he gets off the police force." His family painted a picture of a bright man with an "infectious smile" who was always there for his brothers and sisters. "He was a role model," his brother Frank said. "He had so much love in his heart. And he was always concerned about his family." FAMU interim athletic director Michael Smith said Ferrell played safety for the school's football team during the 2009 and 2010 seasons. Public records indicated that Ferrell began living in Charlotte early this year after moving from Tallahassee, home to FAMU. wrong website. They have not much to say, not much concern, for incidents like this once the Navy Shipyard shooter was a darkskinned-NI99ER. Which is why I use my Avi to pay respect to this fallen soldier. |

I think you can still post these items here if you wish. They are informative to read. I just would like to know what type of responses you feel you should get for the article. For instance, I read about it when others posted it. And on my facebook feed. Its sad and its tragic. And we all know why it happened. That said. I could write that as a response. But what else do you want written about the post. This isnt a sarcastic remark or anything. But what kind of discussion are you expecting for this topic to bring about. I am genuinely interested. Either way, continue to post these types of articles, but yes its true, they likely will not have 10 pages of discussion on it. But posting news is always useful. |

pretty dumb question...when you look at the passionate responses to other threads, of tragedies, that happened to non-DARKSKINNED NIGGz. More proof, is that I already made a thread on this issue and do even feature this victim in my Avi...still...very little attention paid to him, outside of myself. |

With a measure of comprehension, answer a few questions, sans emotions, with a slew of rationale… Well, let look at what happened on the night in question? Anything outside of the ‘living witnesses’ is pure conjecture… Facts: * the former Florida A&M University football player moved to Charlotte about a year ago. * Ferrell's car ran off the entrance road, * Officer Randall Kerrick fired 12 times at Ferrell early Saturday while responding to a **breaking and entering call** (pay some attention to this little tidbit) hitting him 10 times. * He then started "banging on the door viciously" of a home, * The woman inside answered, when she saw Ferrell, she shut the door and called police. * Officers responding to the breaking and entering call found Ferrell on a road that only leads to the neighborhood's pool, * Ferrell died at the scene * Michael Smith said Ferrell played safety for the school's football team during the 2009 and 2010 seasons. Speculations, Conjecture, Assumptions: * An unarmed man seeking help after a car crash (yes, we know NOW, he was unarmed, however, seeking help, says who?) * The encounter was set in motion around 2:30 a.m. Saturday (What encounter? Was this scripted?) This is called subliminal messaging…It wants you to believe, that the officer had something in his mind (evil doing) vs the innocent kid (just looking for help) * Ferrell kicked out the back window and headed up a hill to the first set of closely clustered houses he could see, (Really? To know this, means this reporter knows what was in this young man’s head at the very moment, “he headed up a hill to the first set……”) *"banging on the door viciously" of a home to attract attention (now, this one is easy…be did bang on a door, but how does this reporter, or police know, it was to attract attention? * Ferrell ran toward the officers.. (This could be factual, but let’s give the ‘conspiracy theorist’ a bone) * Police said he continued to run toward them when Kerrick shot him. (the police states that they “Tased” this young man, and he continued to run…towards them! Now, what would you do, if someone, after “tasing” them, continued to run at you? Put yourself in the situation, and be honest, if someone is running at you, you don’t know why, you just got a call, about a breaking/entering. You encounter this man, he runs at you, you hit him with a “taser’, but he keeps coming? Maybe some of those kids in Chicago can tell us, what they would do, if someone is running at them... This is not a black/white issue, it’s a ‘quick, reacting to a situation’, life or death situation… |

Running towards the cops ??? (again, dead men don't speak)Kept coming even after being tasered ??? (why was he tasered in the first place. cops are supposed to give verbal commands) Banging on the door visciously at 2:30 am and a female OPENS THE DOOR (LOL!!!) She immediately closes the door but the call goes to the police as breaking and entering. (neither happened) Edited by Rick1, Sep 24 2013, 01:30 PM.

Actually hubby and I discussed this case. He attended a lecture which brought this murder up. The subject of the lecture: "The dehumanization (or was it demonization?) of the black male". Yup, SUA, that was the title. Freudian slip? Hmmm.... |

I bet it was the DEHUMANIZATION. Most of the time, that is exactly what is going on. Yes, I was listening to the 911 tape. She said that he was yelling at her to turn off the alarm and let him in. That sounds so fabricated. How is someone trying to break in if they are knocking on your door asking for help? And the 911 operator was prompting her. She hadnt even said what he looked like I dont think and the operator was like "is he black? We are on out way" |
