So no light skinned or medium brown skinned people ever made an original music or sounds and dances?

Did anyone even read the article? Its a countersuit for the family claiming they sampled his songs. And they say they did not.

Let the proof come out first before we jump to conclusions.
The first time I heard that song I thought it was a Marvin Gaye song coming on, so I think the family has a case. It sounds exactly like the music in Got to Give It Up
True.

But let the proof come out first.

Maybe at the beginning, but after that the song sounds nothing like Marvin Gaye's song.

Many artists are notorious for sampling even just a little bit of a song.

So its highly possible.

But still folks getting all rabid, see what the outcome is first..

That's the point though. You can't sample a song for 10 seconds without permission from the owner of the music

I haven't heard it, but someone told me the same thing. They thought it was Marvin Gaye's song coming on.

Marvin Gaye's Family Declined Huge Settlement in "Blurred Lines" Suit

Posted Image

The lawsuit over the song of the summer just got a little hotter: Marvin Gaye's family reportedly turned down a six-figure settlement and have decided to continue with a planned lawsuit, believing that a court will find that "Blurred Lines" is a blatant ripoff of Gaye's "Got to Give It Up" (it kind of is).

Last week, Robin Thicke and the other "Blurred Lines" songwriters filed a preemptive lawsuit against the Gaye family, to try to pressure them to drop a planned lawsuit against the songwriters. Considering this came after the rejection of a sizable settlement, it seems like the Thicke camp also believes they might be found guilty of some level of infringement if the case goes to trial. The songwriters would like to clear up any lawsuits as quickly as possible so they can widely license the song to films, advertising, etc.

"We’re not happy with the way that he went about doing business, let alone suing us over something where he clearly got his inspiration from at the least," Marvin Gaye III said in an interview with TMZ.

In the lawsuit last week, Thicke argued that "being reminiscent of a 'sound' is not copyright infringement. The intent in producing 'Blurred Lines' was to evoke an era."

Um.....

When I first heard his song, I thought how great it was that he sampled Marvin's music.

He should just agree to the usage fee and move on with it.

Pharrell Talks About Battle Over 'Blurred Lines'
NEW YORK September 13, 2013 (AP)
By EMERALD MORROW Associated Press

Even though Pharrell is engaged in a battle with Marvin Gaye's estate over Robin Thicke's megahit "Blurred Lines," he wants to make one thing clear — he has incredible respect for the late soul legend.

"I'm a huge fan of Marvin Gaye. He is a genius. He is the patriarch," Pharrell said Thursday night.

The hit-making singer and producer collaborated with Thicke on the No. 1 smash, which some have said sounds very similar to Gaye's "Got to Give it Up." Last month, Pharrell, Thicke and the song's other collaborator, T.I., filed a lawsuit asking a judge to determine that it does not copy Gaye's song and a song by George Clinton. It was a pre-emptive strike against future claims from Gaye's heirs that the song takes from Gaye's composition without credit.

Pharrell told The Associated Press on Thursday night the two songs aren't similar at all.

"If you read music, all you have to do is read the sheet music. It's completely different," he said on the red carpet during an event for the Calvin Klein Collection during New York Fashion Week.

Gaye "is the king of all kings, so let's be clear about that. And we take our hats off to him," he said. "But anybody that plays music and reads music, just simply go to the piano and play the two. One's minor and one's major. And not even in the same key."

The Grammy winner has had a huge year; he was also a collaborator on the other big song of the summer, Daft Punk's "Get Lucky."

"I'm thankful. It's awesome," he said. "You know, the people are doing it. You know what I mean? They don't have to, but the fact that they have, it's a really awesome experience and moment, you know?"

Who is responsible for sample clearance in the first place? This should've been caught a long time ago. And it's not like this is some sort of obscure song either.
